  • On this episode of My Classic Car, Dennis makes his way to Lewisville, TX to check out two of the most iconic movie cars ever made; The Blues Brother's "Bluesmobile" cop car and Mad Max's Interceptor "Last of the V8s" movie cars. And both with all of the trimmings possible, down to the last detail. In the movies they we're road rough, and these reflect it. I mean there are movie cars, and then there are "movie cars that have the oily fingerprint where a stage hand was working on it and they left it" movie cars (look for the fingerprints next to the star). They have the correct dirt on the sides!
    Starting off with the Bluesmobile, this started truly as a '74 Dodge Moncao and was turned into the unseeming superhero capable of impossible feats. Now with the correct "cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks", it features not just the correct look, but done in the correct way. Not a graphic of a weathered and removed police star on the side, but a weathered and then removed star. The "to serve and protect" not just chipping away, but chipping away in the same spots it was in the movies. Frame by frame meticulously copied. The interior just as it was, down to the correct Frito's and crushed can on the dash, "this time" glued down as opposed to tossed loosely about like the movie, and sliding out the open window. And it still runs like a dream.
    Unless your dream is to be the Road Warrior, and let's face it most of us did, then you want to drive the V8 Interceptor. Starting as a '74 Australian Ford Falcon XB, the slightly modified "down under" version of a Mustang, and blessed by Emil Minty (The Feral Kid) himself, this reproduction is so authentic it was used in a documentary reunion event "Back to the Max" (thus meeting Emil). The bomb (defused), the column light, the tanks, the incorrect tubing on the blower...all there. The ear busting zoomies by the back wheel, Dinky-Di Dog Food, it has to be seen to be believed. And if it's a clear Saturday in Lewisville Texas, you just might. It's meant to be driven, and drive it he does.
    #Bluesmobile #V8Interceptor #LastoftheV8s" #madmax #bluesbrothers #moviecars #RoadWarrior #DinkyDi #EmilMinty

    He didn't want to know about the HQ Monaro from the first film pity, I would've liked to have heard a bit more on the story of that car too and him getting both car's to the States from Oz.

    • @PatrolmanDark
      @PatrolmanDark 8 лет назад +7

      +Aussie Aus Deutschland - Nobody had built the Monaro since the first film, so I made a duplicate. My friend in Oz, coincidentally, was doing the same, so now there are two. I have friends who move cars between our two countries. When the Interceptor came up for sale, I had them check it out, verify it, and ship it. About a year later I had them search out an HQ Monaro. They found me this drag car. Under the paint it was heavily bondo'd. That's all fixed. Had the scoops custom made.

    I’m really jealous on this episode! I’ve always had a love and fascination for
    Mad Max’s V-8 Interceptor! What a super cool car! It just screams post World War 3 Apocalyptic ride! The second film; The Road Warrior truly was a fitting title when you consider what kind of vehicle Mad Max was driving! As a child I had the toy car but as adult I would absolutely love to get my hands on one of these! It’s pretty remarkable that he was able to purchase one of the hero cars used for promotional purposes that came from The Land Down Under! This has been a really fun video and I really appreciate you sharing these wonderful cars especially Mad Max’s V-8 Interceptor! I look forward to seeing the next video! Cheers!

    Beautiful machines. 2 of my favorite movies and movie cars.
    Through the Road Warrior Mack and the original Eleanor Mach 1, and that's my movie car dream garage.
    Very accurate, but I did see a few things; the Bluesmobile is missing searchlight, and the Interceptor didn't have a passenger seat (there was a seat frame bolted to the door with a dog bed on it). Also, here the XB has a beautiful gloss finish, but in Road Warrior the car was dusty and rusty.
    Im just geeking out. Great job

      I don't keep the dog seat mounted, because then it's a single-seater - it goes in place of the passenger seat. I wish there was time for them to have done something on both my Goose bike and the Night Rider car, but SO much was cut for time. And the Goose bike is for sale. :)

      PatrolmanDark So when are you getting around to building a replica of Max's Interceptor sedan lol. I know America is nuts about coupes, but many classic Australian muscle cars are sedans. The XB sedan is a lot easier to do, all weather, and potentially more fun. You have however built one of the best Interceptor replicas I've seen yet.

    I worked on Mad Max II and Mad Max III. The car used for Mad Max and Mad Max II was the same car only with the interior stripped out and then painted in a matt black. After shooting MMII it was sold. I could have bought it for $850. Whilst on set the vehicle was always referred to as "The Black on Black". The original car is a Ford XB Falcon GT with a 351 c.i. engine, but for MMII they also built a second car, ( the one that was rolled over and crashed in the film). It was a Ford XB Falcon GS with a 302 c.i. engine.

    Dennis had the same impression I had when I first saw the movie. I had no idea, at the time, that there was an Australian Ford Falcon muscle car. I thought the movie makers had taken a US Torino and attached Mustang front fenders and hood. I agree that it also resembles a Matador fastback coupe.

      +paul davies Mate I think the XBs were a great car, and from about the EL on, they got a rack & pinion and that transformed them. But from the XD on to the EL, shit-boxes. I drove cabs from '84 until about 2008, in Brisvegas, and I have between 1.8 & 2 million km up on Falcons, around city and suburban streets. I quite liked the early C'dores, but after the VL they got bloat, and there used to be something fundamentally 'right' about the C'dore chassis, but with the VP they f#cked it, and only in the last couple of years have they made an all new one and fixed it. Old Falcons, XW ... XB, not the greatest chassis in the world, but it worked. Then they made the XD, and they f#cked it. It wasn't until they put a rack & pinion in it that Fords started to come good again.

    “The side is like a shrunken AMX or Javelin”
    I guess most people don’t realize that the Falcon is just the Australian Torino or vice versa. We got these here but they were Torinos.

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench 4 года назад +2

      Afraid not. There isn't anything compatible between the two. The Falcon was still based on the 60's US Falcon under the skin, but was heavily revised to cope with Australian conditions and customer expectations. The original US Falcons fell apart on Australian roads.

    • @Skydrag.V60
      @Skydrag.V60 4 года назад

      Dan's Van Diemens Land Model Bench right, but the ‘60s falcon was originally a trim level for the Fairlane. So was the Torino. That evolution continued with the next few generations. Although the AU Falcons were revised for the Australian roads, both the 2 door 2nd and 3rd gen Torinos and the 2 door XA/XB/XC Falcons share the same body with different trim pieces and front/rear ends. Look at the two of them side to side and tell me they don’t share the same body. It’s even documented, I’m not just pulling this out of thin air.

      +DougEStyle01 - Thank you. I have done it up dirty, the trouble is that the appropriate colored sand has a very different PH from the paint and when I took it off to check on the paint I had a bunch of little bullseyes all over. Had to work to fix that. And my goal is long-term survival and running condition, so I keep it a bit cleaner, but not much.
