This is one of the best built glassfiber boat I’ve ever seen , the attention to detail and ingenuity is nothing else but a marvel. This is a boat you can be proud of.
Its really nice to see the excitement with the jobs like the rudder. It must be very gratifying to know you are on the last leg of this long journey. It's a lot of fun seeing you an Janet enjoying working on the last details of this beautiful boat. When you are finally sailing to all the places you've worked so hard to be able to go to all the work and pain will be a distant memory and your future will be amazing. It couldn't happen to two nicer people. My wife and I are very happy for both of you and wish you many wonderful years sailing togeather around the world. God bless you both and keep you safe and healthy.
It coming closer, what a task to get it ready in just six weeks, after all the years you and Janet (and some extra hands on deck now and when) has spend on this beautiful lady! Well done 👍
My thought process told me that a spare rudder is very cheap insurance in the event of a rudder breaking. I have seen many stories on TV where vessels have lost their rudder and are then flailing in the winds with no directional control. Therefore, a spare rudder is almost a no-brainer. Well done Ross on thinking of the "What ifs".
Excellent insight with the rudder construction! I’ve been thinking this a lot. My rudder needs to withstand the whole weight of the boat with the double keels so that boat can be beached. I’ve been thinking of making the whole thing with skeg and hinges and everything from aluminum. But we’ll see! Keep it up! Not much longer to go!
I would suggest having a skegged rudder to keep strength upper snd lower, buggers to change or repair but safer that spade. We have a large skeg immediately forward of the Rudder and prop for added protection.Rossco
@@LifeOnTheHulls Yeah, definitely a skeg! There's also the fact that I can put only on bearing in the boat because there's the dingy garage that prevents the rudder stock coming to the deck level. So the lower bearing needs to be in the skeg.
Awesome work Rossco. Great to see the progress. I've been following for about four years. I am excited for you to see how close you are. Can't wait to see it in the water. If you ever sail north, consider coming up to Korea. Wifey and I will show you a whole new experience.
Ross - After retiring from project management of large industrial projects, the one axiom is the last 10% of the project takes 90% of the work 😀. Good on Janet to put together a punch list of what needs to be done. Tell her to keep cracking the whip on you.
On my rudders for my schionning wilderness i put sail battons on the leading and trailing edges for addeded strength and helped the glass go around the tight edges worked a treat cheers greg I also did 3 rudders.
You enjoy explaining things, you have a unique skill of turning fitting a washer to a leaky tap sound like your rebuilding the Space Shuttle computers. Seriously mate you like to talk it up. Hey you have every right to be feeling proud about what you and your wife have accomplished. Really well done and good luck.
I guess it comes from 35 years of instructing apprentices and personally and rarely getting the result I require from them to attempt to do a good job.Remove ambiguity and then results are clear and defined.
Love the texture around the hard top, it'll definitely add some grip too for a hand hold. Those carbon rudders are going to be sweet, cant wait to see those be completed.
You guys are amazing! What I want to know is what r u going to do with yourself when you finally get done ? I can’t imagine u not working…Great talent you are ..
Sorry came in late, You thanked people for joining you, 1. I didn't know you were in pieces 2.Joining those pieces is way beyond my abilities. Some must have done it before I tuned in, so to them I say well done on putting Humpty Ross back together again.
Hello Ross, greetings from Hurricane hit Naples Florida. Actually we didn’t get hit that badly, lots of 65mph winds and some flooding but we made out ok. On the bow of the boat where the non slip area is pretty dirty, can you use a power washer to get all of those books and crannies clean again? I never used a power washer on fiberglass so I don’t know if that’s ok. One cleaner that works very well on fiberglass is Dawn for Pots and Pans, I would think they sell that in Australia. If not, let me know and I will send some off to you in a hurry. Take care buddy, much love and blessings to you and your family. ❤
Ohh mate so glad you got through ok, horrendous storm by the looks, stay safe.Pressure washer will be used, but will be using a mild diluted hydrochloric acid gel coat cleaner to remove three years of dirt and wax from mould. It will require a full polish afterward to seal as the avid with oxidise the non skid.Fun times ahead.Thanjs for checking in and so glad the storm has moved through.Rossco
Excellent work Roscoe and an absolute no brainer to fabricate a spare rudder while you have all the wherewithal at hand.👍⛵️ Have you ever told us what you are calling the catamaran?
Hello Rossco, Janet. Janet, could you have Rossco watch this current video from beginning to end. Let me know what you observe. i really like that rudder design. Have a great week. If the time table is correct then that means that your vessel has already launched?? How is it handling? Ttfn
It’s amazing how much force water can push on the rudder. Those ribs and epoxy is the only thing holding the shat to the blade… as an engineer seams inadequate, but that’s the plan so better engineers than me know what they are doing.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the construction. Structurally the centre web is not ideal, better put the strength in the skins. That said it is perhaps a better way of getting a good straight result. The highest load on the shaft is around the lower bearing, ie where it exits the hull, ideally you could reinforce this area with another tube inserted inside. If the shaft is strong enough to take an impact, what about the hull? Is it designed so that the bottom can break absorbing some of the shock load. Likewise I would have the leading edge the same. Damage to the rudder is far preferable to damage to the hull.
@@markthomasson5077 - totally agree. I would be tempted to put a tube outline the rudder so that tube acts a a brace that gets grounded first and protects the rudder. I have seen this on some of the cats. I probably did a poor description, Agree Let’s se how Ross strengthens this up. Our Ross is a one man super human and he has got it done right to date so I suspect his going to bust this out just as well.
Pretty much complete Pete, a bit of plumbing to come, has them running back in February, and now to complete the insulation and install shaft seals.Ready to go.

Thanks mate, she is a sturdy beast.Rossco
She is looking very beautiful now, can’t wait to see her splash.
You are a genius Rossco, well done.
7 years I've been with you.
Thanks mate

Wow, those rudders are really something, I’ve never seen anything like that! Man oh man does the boat look sharp with the windows uncovered!
Thanks so much they will come out so nice.
Brilliant work Ross and madam project manager 😂. I can certainly understand your excitement. Thanks for sharing this with us. 🇨🇦
Thanks Bill , the anticipation and anxiety is palpable.
hi the cat is looking very good grate work .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
The light at the end of the tunnel is being polished 😜🍻
Awesome work Ross and Janet
Those rudders, you will never need the spare one 😉
Have a greate weekend.
All the best.
Thanks Martin, big weekend at work ahead.Rossco
These are some seriously pretty rudders ! Very well done sir !

I absolutely love the idea of a visit to Korea, one of the most interesting Asian countries I feel. Thanks or following.Ross
❤great work Hanet and Ross well done ❤
Cheers buddy
you guys are getting so close to splashing your boat, good luck
I'm already racking my brain to come up with uses for that high quality carbon tubing. Seems like gold. Always loving your work Ross.
Thanks Timothy appreciate you following.
I haven't anticipated something this much since I got new underwear for Xmas. Thanks for sharing!
Classic stuff
yea ! my favorite RUclips channel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks mate
Nice work Roscco and Janice 👌
Thanks mate.

Ohh the whip is cracking right now Ron.Cheers Rossco
Wow, almost 14! I'm glad they've got the best job in the yard
It’s looking soo good. You guys are amazing.
Good onya Jeff, loving your Solomon' Islands photos, so beautiful.
On my rudders for my schionning wilderness i put sail battons on the leading and trailing edges for addeded strength and helped the glass go around the tight edges worked a treat cheers greg I also did 3 rudders.
Top tip, put some cling film on the glass/ Perspex windows for protection.
The pup looks like she is ready to go. Looking pretty good for 14!
Pretty healthy our girl our Lexi has been a brilliant dog.
Your Janet is my Sharon , God bless them.🎉
Gotta love em Phil

Loving the smoked windows, also those rudders are looking top-notch mate. Cant wait to see her sitting outside the tent, then floating👍👍👍
We can't wait either, but will be wierd to say the least to actually get her moving.Rossco
Looking great
Well done
Thanks mate
Carbon🤤 This is a fascinating video and I’ll be keen to see how you attach the rudder stock / shaft to the quadrant to avoid corrosion.
Will only have a tiller to attach to shaft and epoxy between the shaft and and tiller to deal with electrolysis.Pretty well proven system.
Another easy option for finishing edges ect, tint the gel coat a little darker mask off sand and apply. Simple, clean and looks really good
That is a nice way to finish , great technique,I have used that in our paddlesports products.
You guys are amazing! What I want to know is what r u going to do with yourself when you finally get done ? I can’t imagine u not working…Great talent you are ..
Looking forward to the cladding operation 😬😮😅
Congrats to both of you on all the fine work, and particularly those carbon rudders that look really cool (and sturdy) !
Thanks so much we are really moving ahead quickly.Ross
7 years. WOW
Nice to see Janet doing some work 🤐…..lol, love you really ❤

I need to be put back together, bit broken this week after a massive effort.
that is a cool rudder mate
Cheers mate
Thank you Andrew.
Superb !

For a master-class in rudder building I recommend the relevant episodes on the Young Barnacles RUclips channel.
Excellent work Roscoe and an absolute no brainer to fabricate a spare rudder while you have all the wherewithal at hand.👍⛵️ Have you ever told us what you are calling the catamaran?
The name I have given her this week simply could not be repeated in public, but we have not a name yet.
@@LifeOnTheHulls 🤣
6 weeks out that’s great. Glad one didn’t overlook the rudders.
Not going far without rudders mate
Rosco it looks like those rudders are coming together
Came up really nice
Beautiful work, congratulations.when and where will the mast be installed.regards
That rudder looks small? It’s amazing such a small rudder can turn such a big cat.

Andrew / Don't give the haters room in your head.
Ross, will you bring enough materials on the boat to affect repairs if necessary or is that not feasible due to shelf life?
Are you dropping hints to "in between" time is up by using it's trailer as a table support
It’s amazing how much force water can push on the rudder. Those ribs and epoxy is the only thing holding the shat to the blade… as an engineer seams inadequate, but that’s the plan so better engineers than me know what they are doing.
Mate there is so much tabbing and structure, there is no chance of these coming loose. This weeks video has more detail.
@@LifeOnTheHulls I was thinking, all will be revealed and I just did not understand. Tab the heck out of that rudder….lol
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the construction.

My ideal is a spade rudder, as he has, fixed into a cassette, so can be lifted, and has a crash zone at the rear of the cassette box.
6 weeks! Lots to get done. What are the critical path items?
Try a carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass composite.
Great work Rossco, we haven’t seen inside the engine room(s) for a while, what’s happening in them?
Pretty much complete Pete, a bit of plumbing to come, has them running back in February, and now to complete the insulation and install shaft seals.Ready to go.
Just curious, would it not be stronger if you split about half the tube and half the plate vs the whole splits in the plate?
How many rudders did you make?
I really enjoy your videos, but would like to see more work and less talk.
Nice to have the project manager busting🕟
Full on list mate.
