Hi Martin!! What an aweseome comment to wake up too! Woa, congratulations! After a few months of teasing, it finally revealed what the aluminium project boat is. The KM 39C is an epic hull. Well done! I am very much looking forward to your journey. Please share all you can. Thanks!
For sure we will be sharing it and thanks! The journey has started with the van but we will try to keep the videos as boat orientated as we can because let’s face it.. we’re all boat people here! Thanks so much for your kind words!!
@SailHub Yes!!! I recently bought the french Renault cousin of your german Porche a "Patago 39". It's less fancy but very similar also 1 of 3 that I know off. The plan is to sail it this summer back to Belgium for a major electrical refit this winter. I'd love to also gradually upgrade the interior over time. Your content and the knowledge you share will be very beneficial!
@XArthieX that sounds amazing.. just did some Googling, very different boats here but man, she looks ready to take on a war at sea. I dare say she will stand up to more than ours, looks like a really really good sea going vessel right there! Sounds like a great plan too, be sure to let me know if we can help with anything, may even see you at some point, we will be driving up and down a bit and our ferry drops us in Amsterdam.
My grandfather built boats for Camper Nicholson & I grew up in Hamble, so I’ve been around boats & yachts all my life. Absolutely love the craftsmanship & attention to detail you guys are putting into your projects. Chapeau 👏🏼
The Spirit 72 is magnificent with fabulous wooden boat building skills. You've found a great boat, hope you can do your best work on it. As regards moving it, I would look for a suitable trailer even then the hull only is probably around 7 tonnes? Perhaps in the UK see what options you have to get it towed, there are networks where trucks move around looking for jobs, some people take an interest in moving unusual loads. Although the canals are probably the cheapest method, at least in Europe.
Hey Tom! Thanks mate, yeah the boat is great and we are really excited!! The move has problems as it’s associated with moving through several countries. This outs the price right up there despite its weight of only 3.5T. The weight sounds good, and the shallow height too (no keel or rudders) but a beam of 3.8 that can cause the transportation problems apparently. Basically all of the import export paperwork, time at several places on the journey pushes the price really high, so high that it’s just not an option. In fact it’s insane. So, it’s going in the water! We have a plan now which is fab… We just have to implement it 😂
@@SailHub That sounds like a 'convoi exceptionnel'! With a beam of 3.8, perhaps she'll be on her side for any road journey. I guess it depends on your route to Scotland and your build site, would be easier under cover. A benefit of the lifting keel is that you don't need much of a slip or tidal range to get her afloat at end of the build, should open up more and cheaper options. The first leg to the canal/river sounds like the trickiest. I can't imagine Irish ingenuity, flexibility or accommodations in the local approach to the issue. I'm sure it will work for you.
@Tomm9y hey Tommy, thanks fella. It’s all coming together now, finally things are aligning and the van is taking shape too. As soon as we’re finished creating our new home on wheel we’re getting right into it!! Can’t wait?👊👍
Having just rented a campervan for the first time (and loved it) - and searching for our first sailboat, stumbling across your channel on RUclips is absolutely perfect. Looking forward to seeing your progression on the van and the boat.
I'm the first time on the channel and really excited to see the next episode. Huge project and I really like this switching between woodworking and metal craft in this video.
Ah thanks for joining! Yeah, there plenty more to come, can’t wait to get on with the van… we have so much planned for it but really I just want to get onto the boat! Great to get back on the tools again. -Chris
Loving the journey and the goals. We are on a low budget sustainable journey working towards a nearly fully electric refit of a 1977 Rival 38 centre cockpit ketch.
When I saw this beauty on the thumbnail I knew we'd be in for a treat. Can't wait to see the whole project, van included. I'm personally hoping to find a hidden gem like this but a cat instead. I'm sure I can learn a lot from your journey.
Ah thanks! Yeah, it took us years to find something that was right for us at the right price too. I’m sure something will come up for you, keep your eyes peeled and do t rush into something you don’t reply want! As for learning from us… goodness, don’t put the pressure on! But on. Serious note, just ask if you think we can help, we’re on Insta too if you want on the job content.
Great start to a new adventure! I'll be following along for sure. Getting a bare hull from Switzerland to Scotland is an adventure in itself. I think you mentioned the French canals, but the Rhine is also navigable from the Swiss border at Rheinfelden all the way to Rotterdam. A 20hp outboard on an improvised bracket, plug some holes, a bit of ballast and away you go. Best of luck from Pete in Wanaka, New Zealand.
Hey Pete! Thanks man, yeah… we’re in the same page mate! Probably because I used to live in the same town as you! What a place! Thanks for the support! Cheers, Chris 🙌
@@SailHub Aluminum is a clear trend among leading youtubers. You bring something different within this trend. We look forward to learning from your woodworking skills, as well as your extensive knowledge of all the boating equipment. Van life is the cherry on the cake!
@@cyrilvermeil thanks for that Cyril. I hope we can deliver! I think having been in the industry quite a while we have dealt with a lot and seen many views over the years. I don’t want say what’s best for who, just lay it on a plate for people to make their own descisions. There are reasons for all designs, materials and equipment and we intend to point out giver best usage along our journey. I guess what I’m saying is we want to remain factual as opposed to opinionated. As for the woodwork, we will be doing all sorts of it in the future but the boat fit our probably won’t be what be expect! 😉…. What I know is that it will be a good test of my skills I’m sure!
Thanks John, great to have you on board, the vans coming on well. We will have a couple of videos on that soon. Not sure what’s happening in the boat but I know whatever it is I want to test my skills a bit! The vans a great place for me to get inspired again!
Hey! Thanks fella! Much appreciated. Man.. I have a strip planked canoe to finish building that you have just reminded me of. Gotta love a kayak mine, your all nuts! Hope our videos keep you entertained,
Hey up guys! Great to hear from you!! Cheers, we’re pretty stoked mind. Mind you, we got a lot to learn from guys like you… gotta catch up again at some point! If you ever make it home that is! Given the survival suit I saw you in I presume your thinking of crossing soon?
Glad I found this, lets get the Leo crowd over here since he has finished his boat now! This looks fantastic project and incredible project to follow. Great success! Subscribed!
Thanks for that! It would be well cool to get the Tally Ho bunch here!! Big shoes to fill mind!! Let’s see how we get on with the van build as a taster! Next one’s up tonight, can’t wait to be on with the boat soon!!! 👍 thanks for subscribing!
This just popped up in my feed - I’m a uk-based sailor, occasional superyacht race crew, woodworker and Tally Ho patron - you guys got an instant subscribe!
RUclips made a great suggestion at last! Nice project, I have an aluminium Koopman 35 from 1982 with wooden topsides and interior, no idea who built it though. Being in Spain the issue becomes getting materials and finding the skills to do the work I cannot do. Previously I worked for VT, Pendennis and ANT which took me to Blohm & Voss and Lurssens as a Marine Electrician / Electronics technician and having spent time working on a wide variety of small craft and super yachts I know good design and workmanship when I see it. I'm imagining your project will be a cross between Sampson Boat co. and Distant Shores, so my only advice is "Keep It Simple" as I can see you are already very quality minded.
Hi, how nice to hear this, such compliments! I really hope we can live up to this! Sounds like quite the adventure you have been on! Koopman’s are just wonderful boats! Super lucky there chap! As for our plan, we don’t really do simple, it’s just not in the genes… but, we’ve struggled to enjoy a lot of sailing for to working on things so this time we’re gonna make sure we get the sailing and traveling in. The quality can wait sometimes I guess!
I've seen the ad for this hull online when searching for alu yachts myself. I am excited to see it on RUclips and that you will document the built process! Really interested in your interior design but mostly happy it will be done by some skilled people. Often you see some weird or low quality interior when done by the owners themselfs which is a shame for such an expensive yacht. Best of luck with this amazing project and thank you for documenting the process!
Hey, thanks! We’re really looking forward to the build. I tho k the trick is to make sure we know what we want t before we start the interior. Great to hear you think we know what we’re doing! Time will tell 😂👍⛵️
Funny, the youtube algorythm suggested your video to me, probably because I am following RAN sailing. But I basically just got off the boat you took the measures of the keel from. We have sailed her from the Orkneys to Bergen in Norway. Congrats, she is ging to be a great and fast yacht.
Wahey! One of the Panta Rhei crew. So cool! I would love to hear from you and find out more about your Sail. Pretty epic! I wish I could have been with you guys! 👍
very good case, I looked at it a few years ago, but didn’t buy it because it was too far and expensive to transport. I will be watching your progress. Good luck
super keen to watch how you get on and the decisions you make! were about to start an electric ali cat on a tight budget soon. love your channel as it is and now extra love! :D
An exciting & demanding project. I will certainly follow along. I do hope you have worked out the tax implications of importing the boat from Switzerland. I know the can be pretty complicated and costly. Good luck
Hey Bertie, great to have you join us! Thanks! The tax…. Urgh… there’s a thing. It’s an open ended question, we’ve spoken to all of the relevant people who were actually brilliant. As in really brilliant. Basically we give them the price paid and pay the tax on it, unless of course they bekive I were taking them for a rid and then it’s to market value… I think that’s fair really, they have got to stop fraudulent behaviour 🤷♂️🤞
omg . what a project !! you guys are amazing and what a beuatiful shape the yacht is to begin with !! and to top it of you doing another van build too , seriously amazing i would love to help , me getting an old 55 year old snapdgranod 24 engine running and sailing dont even compare am humbled lol
Thanks man, we’re all just faffing with boat here fella! It’s all the same and it’s important to help each other along the way so thanks for standing by us!
Really interesting project - I have a similar boat (not ali) that was made by the last owner. I had a blank canvas too, but nothing like what you guys have in front of you! Best of lucjk. BTW nice camerawork/editing
Hi, nice to hear from you, we’re not sure yet… a few ideas but we will need to figure it out properly closer to the time. We have a few maybe’s, I guess we just see what happens closer to the time. If all else fails I could strap a rib to it and posh the thing!😂🤦♂️
@normanboyes4983 to be honest I think an outboard will be fine for a while. I sailed a few boats with outboards, they are kinda cool in a simple way. We have so much to think about I think keeping it simple until we can figure something out properly is the way forward!
Hi congratulations for the Alu boat. This one of Berckmeyer’s design which I am building now BM43 in Istanbul. It was on sale around 65k which I could buy but existing project soaks my cash😊. Good luck one of best designs in her class, 🤞🏻💞
Hi, is it worth you trying to contact the designer, Martin Menzner from BM yachts. I would have thought he could supply the CAD file for the bulb. Mind you I had a very poor experience with him, so now going with another aluminium yacht designer. All the very best wishes to you for the completion of the BM. I will look forward to each episode with the progress. M
@helmsman141 thanks for the help, yeah we tried that as our first port of call…. Several emails, messages and no answer. Sadly we’ve not heard much good regarding communication from him which is a shame as the boats have a great sailing reputation. I got all of the CAD from Gaastmeer who supply KM with the cut panels for the build - they were super helpful. Anyhow, we did some scans of the 1st German 39 and we have a CAD hero working on them for us, so far it look promising 🤞 Great to have you in the journey with us and thanks again! 👍
@@SailHub hi thanks for reply. I have tons of material to be posted but I have so many other stuff I only focus to finish the boat. I work 13-14 hours a day with two profies carpenter and paint guy. I am planing to start on posting on Instagram. I am following you, happy to share my experiences
@@SailHub I have 3D model of the torpedo for the kell actual weight would be 2300kg, maybe bit heavy for your project but if you need happy to send it.
One consideration is to conclude if its saltwater aluminum, there were a lot of boats made without this rating that suffered fatal oxidtion/electrolysis issues
It’s crazy right, that’s the best price we got too and then there’s in the import export faff via road through Switzerland France Germany and the UK… Godspeed indeed! 🤙⛵️
Maybe not relevant, but I went fishing on a de-commisioned Brittish mine sweeper named the Admiral out of Morrow Bay. All alluminum boat was the loudest vessel I've ever been on. Sounded like a city bus. But I did catch 4 albacore in the 40lb range, so it was a win, but holy crap what a loud boat.
For sure, they are noisy as hell! We have a plan though, and we are testing it on the van, it’s the cork you see sprayed inside. It’s very common in metal boats and seems to work really well! Sounds like an epic days fishing too by the way!
Hi! She left the KM factory in 2019. She was built for “German Yachtbau” who went bust whilst KM we’re building it. KM had to go through court to get ownership before they could sell it and basically it left the yard as a hull not a boat as they never had a customer for the boat - the customer was German yachtbau’s who I imagine left the scene when they went bust.
You could of made a plaster and glass mould of the other bulb ,25 - 50 mm thick would have been enough then thicken it up when you got home. this would have given it some drying time as well . i have made bulbs using this method before and it works . mixing the plaster and raw glass no resin just allow time for all the moisture to be gone . then place the mould in a sand bed for pouring . anyhow that's a great looking boat you have found , looking forward to see it being finished off. Cheers from a Aussie viewer living in Norway.
Great idea that! Wish we had thought of it 👍 We got by in the end with technology which is unusual for me! Still, it was a super cool learning process, fingers crossed it works out though! 👍
There’s a boat builder in Australia , fabricating with aluminum . Yeh lots of boat builders, but the work they do is immaculate and fast. They use spool guns, and simple tools. Work is first rate, and fast. Tim Turtle ? Aluminum boat build time lapse.
Thanks for that! We were there a good few years back, cool spot! We’ve got good memories of rock climbing on Holyhead mountain too, I once took a good fall there! Mind you… when it was wrecked a few years back that was the week after we left, crazy stuff! We do hope to be back there again for sure, nice to know the price is still sensible! Thank you!
@markthomasson5077 for sure. A sprinter or a crafter could do the job easy enough… as for the springs… I guess that’s the beauty of hire vans! We got some quotes to have it taken for us but because it’s transiting 3 or 4 countries it’s too expensive. That’s multiple countries is the reason transporting the hull is out of budget too.
Cheers David, yeah we’re pretty stoked, so.. The original owner wanted to build it in northern Switzerland. So it’s ended up there. Simple! I know a lot of people do this for tax reasons and then take it down the Rhine from Basel to the Med. To be honest I’m not sure why their plans were, we took over it as an unfinished project and we didn’t feel it was right to pry.
Cheers James, near enough 40k mate. Doesn’t seem a bad price to me but it’s not really a full hull yet.. The ballast has been the biggest shock so far, it’s more than the average rig! I’ve not made many keels to date and the price blew my mind. We’ve had foundry prices of 40k to cast the lead! And then there’s the transport and fitting on top!
Aluminium is the best! But, LiFePO4 batteries on average have energy density of ~120 Wh/kg. That of diesel fuel is almost 12,000 Wh/kg. So to replace one jerrycan of 20 liters = ~17kg of diesel, you'd need 1,700kg fully charged batteries. For that reason I have serious doubts if going for fully electric is wise; I'd go for hybrid (like Distant Shores) if you plan to make ocean voyages.
Yup, I presume you think we don’t know about energy density. Our journey is to document the evolution of electric. In our eyes it doesn’t work yet and we intend to get as close as we can to making it work by building an ongoing prototype test bed. We’re putting the reality out there for people to see so the fact is, we’ve got a something in common, your comment is exactly what we’re showing. It’s not the usual build and we’re thinking outside the box in every way possible to reach for better efficiency etc. it’s an interesting journey and to date we’ve just been planning the first year! Anyhow, it would be cool to hear your thoughts as we progress, Cheers, Chris
@@SailHub I'm not surprised at all you guys know 🙂 Yet, many people don't realise/know the immense difference in energy density, so I thought it was good to mention. Interesting journey. Let hope there will finally be a much much better battery; will be good for all of us. (For a 22k-subscriber channel, I commend you for responding and so quickly!)
@cornelisvanderbent8569 yeah the difference in density is catastrophic! It’s going to be a huge factor to overcome. Let’s see how far we get! 😬 We try to respond to comments as quickly as we can, we need people to help us shape our videos and channel, we’re right at the beginning of this and want to make it something with value for people. Only our audience can help us do that! Hope to catch up again 👍⛵️
@@SailHub get the damn boat in the water and underway before grasping at pie in the sky. I successfully rebuilt a 36 ft motor sailer..... Take care of the basics first and have 5 times the money you think you need.
@JohnHoranzy hey John, thanks mate! 😂👍 Being shipwright I can completely see where your coming from here. We’ve been getting on with a lot over the last 6 months and we need to get the basics confirmed before we even bother making a start. We’re pretty much there now, just the van to finish off and we’re on it!
Thanks fella! For sure, that’s exactly what’s she’s going to be, mind you the stern return is rather abrupt and rather narrow at the back. We’re working on a rig at the moment, we’ve got a few ideas, she’s a fractional with a large roach so we’re just computing the forces. A solent seems like a good idea for an ease of use design, especially given the twin backstays/roach situation. However we’re waiting on the airflow analytics on the sails before we commit.
@SailHub I have a Solent on my Saga 43. Very versatile. Masthead with fixed stainless bowsprit where the genoa headstay attaches. Solent stay at stem. Removable inner forestay for storm jib and mast stability plus removable checks for mast stability. Great rig!
@jessefalsone1247 yeah, we’ve had two solent rigs, they are functionally brilliant. I love them! I’m just not convinced about the efficiency aloft due to turbulence that may effect a flat top main. Not sure if you’ve seen our website but the boat build is in general to see how efficient we can make a boat, so every little counts and I just have an incline that a cutter will be more efficient. But, we will see when we get the aero program on the job! 👍
@SailHub genoa on the spit and Code O / Asym on a Selden carbon pole should considerably improve the aero. I would think a 130-135% genoa for such an easily driven hullform is quite adequate and reduces overlap and mainsail turbulence. If you're going flat top main, you'll be sailing with more twist at the top. Maybe more than you want for light air efficiency with masthead rig. My observation on the100% solent (mine is custom with proper aspect ratio, not Saga standard self tacker) is that above 15 kts AWS, it's better than the genoa close hauled. Just less draggy with no mainsail back wind. I have a new solent on order with rope luff that will allow a smooth transition from reefed down jib to storm jib. I think that makes sense. Cutter also makes sense but then you really should go with a Yankee unless you think you can get enough area out if the staysail to go either/or configuration but then you're more or less like a solent.
@jessefalsone1247 cool. I can picture your set up thoughts. Mind you were could end up on a completely different tack here, with several innovations in sail cloth form manufacturing techniques to lamination and material technology etc the options are somewhat greater than they once were for us. For us, efficiency in performance and also use of minerals/recycling etc being the name of the game it’s going to be interesting. We’re looking at all sorts of ideas and trying to get outside of the usual box, maybe even going more closely related to our old gaff rigger in some respects. Anyway, I think we’ve got plenty of time to come up with a plan and one things for sure, with modern computing software it’s going to be a real game changer to us! I can’t wait to be honest!
Hey! Cheers man, I hope so 😂 that’s would be well cool! So I went to boat building school, but prior to that my grandfathers taught me, one a cabinet maker, the other a wood turner. I also build some race car stuff and mountain bikes in the past for fun. Basically we’ve never stopped tinkering 😂🤟
If I am not mistaken the hull was offered by KM some time ago, I recommended it to some friends. Interesting that it is popping up again. Think carefully about where you want to continue building, transportation to the canals is also expensive. I have built a Reinke 13M myself in ten years and a closed hall would save you a lot of time. Try to make contact with a foundry to cast the lead, we were admitted there during the company vacations with a casting master. Unfortunately, my advice sounds schoolmasterly; I can understand your enthusiasm. Good luck in anticipation of further contributions, cheers
Hey, yeah your right… it was sold during covid and got layer up since, it’s a long story and we’re glad to be building her. As for your advice, it’s not school master like, it’s dammed sensible and we appreciate it, a lot. So, thank you for helping us 👍
@@SailHub Perhaps one option would be to take the hull to the south of France, the option with the canals was formulated. There is not enough time in Switzerland to work productively. I have the feeling that your enthusiasm, which is conveyed in the video, will make the boat sail.
Looks like an amazing boat! Love the lines of the cabin. Is your van single or dual rear wheels? If it is single, be careful how much wood you add, or it may end up too heavy. Hollow panels can save a lot of weight. So far it looks really beautiful!
Thanks, we really like the look of the boat which is the bonus to what we expect her sailing characteristics will be! As for the van, she’s a single. The ply is all lightweight ply and the curves I laminate are all lightweight too. Still, there is a lot of weight being added thats for sure. We will be careful, thanks for the advice it all makes perfect sense! 👍
Haha, you guys are doing something similar to myself. Currently I'm living in a VW transporter that is a working process (solar panels, LPG tank, water tank etc) until Spring. Then 2025 I will have the design for a more modernized Sheppard's hut, in which I intend to be the flagship for my own business and batch production. Ideally in 2028-2029 I'm hoping to be able to see the financial gains to buy myself a catamaran or sailing boat. Let's hope. Did you choose Scotland because the land is affordable when it comes to rent? I live in the midlands, but see myself travelling back and forwards to mid Wales when it comes to assembly. Great to be able to follow your progress 👍
Hey! Man, that’s epic! Good luck with all of that, I mean.. where do you even start! Brilliant! As for Scotland, we have family there, when we get going we will likely need to be in the south as all of our partners are there… we best get saving! Kerchhhhhing!!!
@@SailHub I'm starting with many hours Infront of spreadsheets and in the library. If money is tight, possibly building a second campervan that you can sell, while you have all the equipment to hand (and the processes all fresh in mind). I'm sure you wouldn't struggle to find a buyer with all the following and make a pretty penny as a buffer before you get started. One step back and two steps forward🤷
@terencebarnett9891 hey bud, thanks mate, that would be epic but sadly we don’t own the shed and we need to get out! It’s no stress though, we will sort something, unfortunately RUclips doesn’t pay much so we may take on some adverts to help pay the bills. The project demands a lot of time and finding time to work alongside it is becoming increasingly difficult!
What a lovely boat. Aluminium is such a good boat material. Look forward to seeing how she develops. How about the rig. Are you sticking with the standard, or something more interesting. The beauty of having a boat at this stage, significant changes are not so great an issue For me that boat would be great with a free standing mast, with some form of aero sail. Ideal for short handed. Will you be fitting waterproof bulkheads.
Hi Mark, A few ideas here and there. I will stick with a sloop rig though. It’s just easy for everyone. We want people to be able to come and sail with us easily. I’m also want to optimise performance by retain as much reliability as possible. We’re in talks with mast companies at present but nothing concrete yet. Bulkheads, for sure a front one, not sure about a fully enclosed rear one, probably though but it will need a hatch to access the steering.
@markthomasson5077 yeah, I think for most cruisers I would do the same, it’s a great rig and great advice. This thing has a 27° spreader angle though, a gooseneck 4” off the mast step and no kicker in the plans. Clearly designed to generate enough apparent wind to not need that 90°. At the moment I’m leaning toward somewhere between a 3/4 and a 7/8 fractional. I liked our old Najad 373’s 7/8 fractional a lot.
Criekey, that’s pretty hardcore on the door front! I don’t think we need to go that far. It’s not an Amel! Mind you, I flippin’ love a proper adventure vessel. I just don’t think this is really one of them.
Your skills are amazing, I love your work and both welding skills and wood work skills are top notch. Hey! Thanks fella! Fingers crossed it’s where we’re both hoping it is!!! !

Hey Andrew! Thanks mate, that’s so cool to hear! Cheers 🍻 😀🤙
Chris, Jenni, youve come a long way since BOAT STATION!!! Keep smiling guys

We’ve done a lot for sure, like the rest of us I guess, thanks man!
Hope you guys are well fella!
Thanks!
Hey!! So kind, thanks you!!!!!👍⛵️❤️
Woa, congratulations!
@@XArthieX btw, that’s no Renault more like a Hummer!
What a pair of projects, Looking forward to seeing them both progress good luck, 🍷🍷🍷
I'm in... What an exciting boat, beautiful fast lines. What an amazing project.
Hi Kev, great to have you on board! Thanks!!
Stunning woodwork, amazing...
Thanks Michael, much appreciated 👍
Love the boat, and love your quiet positivity!
Hey up! Cheers! We’re so stoked about it! Super exciting!!! Thanks for the support! 👍😃
We are so happy for you both, Cant wait to watch your progress. Good luck lots of love Debbie, Clive and Murphy xx
Hey guys! Great to hear from you! Thanks!! Hope to catch up again in the water at some point! 👍👌⛵️
Really looking forward to following your progress. Wishing you all the luck!
Hi Roger, thanks, it’s great to have you on board! 👍
My grandfather built boats for Camper Nicholson & I grew up in Hamble, so I’ve been around boats & yachts all my life. Absolutely love the craftsmanship & attention to detail you guys are putting into your projects. Chapeau 👏🏼
Thanks Chapeau, great to get a nod of appreciation from an experienced eye!
Cheers for that!
🙂👌
Love the look of the boat. And the internals look very well planned.
Cheers! We were super lucky!
Not sure what’s happening inside yet… first things first! Make the keel and get her home!
Wahey! What a combo! Sounds like it’s exciting times for us all! 👍⛵️🚐
Looking forward to this build of yours. This is the first I'm seeing and I'm already hooked.

Cool, it’s a hell of a job, gonna be epic! Did you go and look at it?
Loving the journey and the goals.
We are on a low budget sustainable journey working towards a nearly fully electric refit of a 1977 Rival 38 centre cockpit ketch.

Nice to find a KMY hull. They do terrific welds and you should get good documentation. Looking forward to seeing her grow.
Hey peter, thanks for commenting!
Yeah, your right there! They build fab hulls… as for the build, sadly we’re out on our own with this one!
Lovely project! Love from the Netherlands
Cheers! And thanks for commenting!

Epic! Bring her to North Devon!! 😁
Oh yeah?! Is that affordable for us?
Just subscribed, looking forward to your building the interior of the aluminium hull. What you did inside the van looks very promising.
Thanks John, great to have you on board, the vans coming on well. We will have a couple of videos on that soon.
Not sure what’s happening in the boat but I know whatever it is I want to test my skills a bit! The vans a great place for me to get inspired again!
Adding this to the other 4, or 5 boat building channels I watch, because i own a plastic kayak 😂😂😂.

Oh good a boatbuilding project.😀 So how are you going to power through the canals and to the fit out yard in the UK?
Hi, nice to hear from you, we’re not sure yet… a few ideas but we will need to figure it out properly closer to the time. We have a few maybe’s, I guess we just see what happens closer to the time. If all else fails I could strap a rib to it and posh the thing!😂🤦♂️
@@SailHub Yes indeed, it is a dilemma, an outboard would do fine for inland waterways but not so much for the ‘oggin around the U.K.
@normanboyes4983 to be honest I think an outboard will be fine for a while. I sailed a few boats with outboards, they are kinda cool in a simple way. We have so much to think about I think keeping it simple until we can figure something out properly is the way forward!
@@SailHub Absolutely. One is perfect for inland stuff but maybe two for the ‘oggin (the second could be smaller).
That’s sensible. Goodness knows where we will end up for the first part of the fit out mind.
Hi congratulations for the Alu boat. This one of Berckmeyer’s design which I am building now BM43 in Istanbul. It was on sale around 65k which I could buy but existing project soaks my cash😊. Good luck one of best designs in her class, 🤞🏻💞
Hey thanks! Yeah, she’s a beauty alright! Bm43 is a belter too! Are you documenting the build!? I would love to see it!
Anyhow, we did some scans of the 1st German 39 and we have a CAD hero working on them for us, so far it look promising 🤞
Great to have you in the journey with us and thanks again! 👍

Good point that. She’s made of Alustar so we should be grand. 👍
15 Grand to truck it🤯. I wouldn't do that either. Can't wait to see it in the water. God speed ❤
When was she made and why was she never finished? Love your work, the camper and the yacht.
Killer Whale Proof this Beautiful SAILBOAT , Remember they have been attacking boat rudders !!
In your part of the Atlantic..
GREAT PROGRESS!!
Hey! Cheers for that! Yeah, we know all about those dammed whales! They are a real trouble!
Love the hull hate the idea of electric cruiser , just go diesel make your life easier lol
Hey Rick, yeah your not wrong there! Check out our website.. it will all make sense! 👍
Wish we had thought of it 👍
We got by in the end with technology which is unusual for me!
Cool, great to hear. Thanks! Btw spoil guns are a brilliant invention!

I can attest Holyhead Marina has been good to me and its cheap.

Mind you… when it was wrecked a few years back that was the week after we left, crazy stuff! We do hope to be back there again for sure, nice to know the price is still sensible! Thank you!
How do you transport the lead bulb? Assuming made in Scotland.
Perhaps make a temporary concrete bulb so you have enough stability to motor.
Hey, we’re planning on keeping it simple, as the keel is only 2 tonne we can take it in a normal van… in a cradle on an angle….. 😄
@@SailHub aye…but the cost of new springs n shocks!
@@SailHub nice one!
Is there a canal close…not many in Switzerland!
@@markthomasson5077 we will get dropped in at Basel I believe. It’s about a 2hr drive for us.
Cool project. I’m intrigued where and why the hull ended up in CH? Be great to know.
@@SailHub Yes I can understand that for tax reasons. Good find! And good luck with the project - looking forward to tuning in! Dave.
@@davidwhitehouse6566 cheers David!
I'm really looking forward to seeing this project unfold. If you don't mind me asking how much was did the boat cost you? Wishing you all the best.
Lauren Marine in Southampton is pretty cheap and being in Southampton has many marine suppliers just around the corner.
Now that is very helpful news! We love the sailing vibe around Southampton too. Thanks!
Anyhow, it would be cool to hear your thoughts as we progress,
Cheers, Chris
@@SailHub I'm not surprised at all you guys know 🙂 Yet, many people don't realise/know the immense difference in energy density, so I thought it was good to mention. Interesting journey. Let hope there will finally be a much much better battery; will be good for all of us. (For a 22k-subscriber channel, I commend you for responding and so quickly!)
@cornelisvanderbent8569 yeah the difference in density is catastrophic! It’s going to be a huge factor to overcome. Let’s see how far we get! 😬
We try to respond to comments as quickly as we can, we need people to help us shape our videos and channel, we’re right at the beginning of this and want to make it something with value for people.
Being shipwright I can completely see where your coming from here. We’ve been getting on with a lot over the last 6 months and we need to get the basics confirmed before we even bother making a start. We’re pretty much there now, just the van to finish off and we’re on it!
Very cool boat! Going to be a heeler even with internal ballast. Any ideas on a rig?
How and where did you get your knowledge? University? Quality. I reakon your channel will blow up.
So glad I found you guys. Love your design ideas and these are really cool projects. Can't wait to follow along.
Hey Steven, thanks mate! That’s much appreciated!
Oooooo, nice. Once you're done, go into production. I'll have one. But with a gas guzzler please.
For sure!
Please, what app did you use to scan the keel? It need to digitalize my Board builds. Mahalo.
Hey!
This was the scanning video if it’s if interest to you

We tried a few apps and settled on Polycam.
WOW!!
Wow? Cheers! But I’m curious as to what gets the wow now!
Hi Mark,
A few ideas here and there.
@@SailHub ok. But I would consider a good old mast head rig. I like to be able to sheet out to 90 deg.
@@SailHub ..of course with hatches, or full sized watertight doors, as on Navy vessels
