      You can, but then you have either the hassle of fitting one or have it on your person. I think it’s around €10 more than the standard handle. To me that’s pretty good. If they were charging a fortune it would never have made it int in the video.

    What about the burning Teslas ? Wouldn't want that mid pacific.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub 7 дней назад

      Yeah, that would be a concern but you need to look at the battery chemistry they were using. If you go putting that same chemistry into a boat you could well be looking at problems! People do it though and I have advised many against it. But there are much safer options, lifepo4 is much, much safer and solid state state is another level of safety again. For reference Tesla only recently started using lifepo4 recently and only in some models. The reason they are late to the game? Lifepo4 is. not as power dense and EV’s are slated for their range - they needed to maximise this to generate sales so they went with the more power dense option. Now, they are offering safer options! Anyhow, we are looking forward to making a video all about lithium chemistry with a leading producer in the new year!

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub 8 дней назад

      Good question, I would imagine it bobs off! But then, I do t know, but when would that happen? I guess there are always instances but for me this kind of tool’s value shines in true foul weather conditions, where I would imagine the majority of line snapping issues will be minimised. (I imagine near by boats manoeuvring being the biggest threat). I must ask what they are using for the line, knowing those guys it will be indestructible, but it’s a good question:

  • @BonuxCouleur
    @BonuxCouleur 8 дней назад

    Hum yeah, I would like to see a fishing line going through that rotary motor, I don't think it would just go through, I think it would stop your motor possibly burn it. Claims like these are too many in the sailing world but there is very little testing. Imagine a fire engineer claiming stuff without ever testing the actual fire resistance, it would be disastrous. I understand the innovation but I would not get an exterior motor for a blue water sail boat. To lose your motor off shore is disastrous, even more near the coastline in fact. The complexity of technology can sometimes make fixing impossible and if on top of that you have to go in the water to hoist and remove your motor and fix it... I am guessing it really is targeted for people who navigate very short distances from port to port. Good to see innovations though but I would like to see more innovations in the safety department. Remember, simple is better😅 I am all for AI and stuff but there is a reason why sailors like Skip Novak favor manual or hybrid systems over electrical in certain aspects of sailing. I like onboard electric motors a lot though, most definitely because they might actually make fixing much faster and easier over diesel engine, they are obviously cleaner for as long as the batteries don't leak or rupture, electric have less moving parts so it makes complete sense to me to have more electric motors in sailboat and from an autonomy, cost, weight... (debatable) and risk point of view, it means you could have a much smaller diesel tank for heating the boat (for subantarctic conditions) and recharge your batteries on the go which means you can produce your own energy with the motion of the boat. I definitely want to see more electric motors for sailboat and new innovative ways to recharge your batteries, just not outboard it is just way too risky.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub 8 дней назад

      I kind of see your points and they are good but I do think you should be aware that the EPT is well tested and there is no rubber gaitor like a sail drive normally has. Other things to realise are that most o brackets are sacrificial as to not rip a hole in the boat so in your loosing the Sail drive analogy your kills to loose the p bracket in the same situation. More robust boats don’t have this problem but you bend the shaft. The same problem, no motor. The EPT also had its motor on top so it’s protected from the marine environment. But, it is still a Sail drive so it is more vulnerable. However, going back to the regeneration properties, I don’t see how your going to manage any significant numbers without a sail drive. That may sound odd but we will go to it all when building our Aluminium boat “the SailZero Project” where’s our whole point is to find out the best way to protect our planet when sailing. As for the Skip comment, there is a reason, for sure. And that is because he has paying guests on board and a dangerous environment. One of those needs to give to even begin any testing but in that environment it’s still unlikely to work. But, most don’t cruise those grounds, so relevance is key. That being said, I believe we need to test to the highest standards and see what we can achieve but yeah for arctic, the inboard is a winner. For sure!

    • @BonuxCouleur
      @BonuxCouleur 8 дней назад

      @@SailHub I understand the EPT which makes complete sense granted I am also curious about power regeneration and storage, I am guessing it works like a dynamo and self regenerate power through its own propeller. The one I don't understand is the "ring" or rim drive you showed near the end? Unless I misunderstood you said the motor is inside that ring capsule so if you rip that ring somehow, you lose your motor is what I am getting. But to get back to the EPT and I am very curious about your "SailZero Project" can you use it with what is existing? Say you have a Boreal sailboat, it is equipped out of the shipyard with a diesel engine and shaft drive located inside the bottom plate which is a great design for a bluewater sailboat because it is the safe and the propeller is protected at all time. If you were keen on getting an EPT electrical system could you use the existing shaft or at least the existing shaft cavity instead of drilling a hole to accommodate a sail drive? The reason I am asking is because you don't see electric motors as an alternative to diesel on sailboats just yet except for very high end catamarans. So there is no doubt in my mind sailors who want to go electric will have to convert an existing diesel system to an electric system and I am wondering how much of the existing space and shaft you can reuse. It also means the conversion probably has to be approved by the boat designer. If you have a boat with a diesel engine, presumably you are going to try to fit the new electric system in the same space that was allocated to the diesel engine so as to minimize the amount of refitting. I am definitely keen on electric no doubt about that, it makes way more sense than having to carry liters of diesel fuel on board. I am looking at your link now, you guys want to limit both diesel and lithium🤣 www.sail-hub.com/sail-zero-project I am with you, it is just that I have not even made it to the lithium part yet. Well, keep us posted, whatever innovation is cleaner and self generated will be revolutionary absolutely.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub 8 дней назад

      Hey up, Yeah the Rim Drive basically has uts stator in the ring. So yup, if it gets water in there it could be that it’s buggered, much like a common pod drive is threatened. As for EPT, give them a shout. They have numerous solutions and yes they can do shaft drive options too. They also have batteries shaped to fit where engines used to be. All very interesting. I can’t imagine you would need to get in touch with the designer to fit an EPT system as overall weight will be similar and in the same place. You will loose the weight of the fuel though. As for power regeneration, reversing any electric motor will generate power. The trick is doing it efficiently. After that, the its the rest of the inefficiencies in the system that will cause the greatest issues. I.e mechanical losses, lift and drag and electrical efficiency after the stator. Most if this is being done by many in the industry but not often on the same boat, if at all. That’s the point of the SailZero project, an ongoing research and development platform to work on the efficiencies and tell the story of what the reality is. Almost with a hint of sarcasm you say “we want to reduce diesel and lithium” but that’s exactly what we will do. Sail Hub is ran by a shipwright and a product developer, reducing mineral consumption is not a problem for us, it’s taking it to the extremes where it is going to get interesting. Anyhow, that’s not always that relevant to the everyday sailor, what we really want to do it’s beat the sales pitch and help others see the truth. We already help and advise many sailors and I want to continue to giving others the information to help them make the right decisions for themselves. Let’s just hope we can make it interesting and fun at the same time!

      @@SailHub The technology needed to regulate and keep them safe from sea conditions is not there. They cannot be sealed from weather. Corrosion is an issue. Imagine having a fire at sea and the water just converts into more hydrogen and fire. On the other hand, deep cycle AGM and other more shock resistant configurations would be much safer at sea. Not saying it cant be done, not at all. If you were putting around on a river in a pleasure craft fine. If you're off the coast of 3rd world, where exactly are you going to find parts to repair it or someone who even knows how to diagnose an issue? Its hard to find a volvo penta guy, now you need a guy with a degree in material science and electrical engineering to diagnose issues. Does anyone know how to repair a lithium battery?? Where does one get new or used ones, etc. Not to mention the whole, 1000 miles from shore and fire happens. On a boat I just assume everything that can go wrong will go wrong and adding lithium batteries to an already precarious balance of systems isnt skewing the odds in your favor. Does anyone know if lithium batteries like to be trickle charged or at a certain voltage or amperage? Will power have to be converted before its even sent to charge the batteries? Seems like a lot to take on, on land. Let alone at sea.

    I don't know if this video contains much of it, but electric propulsion makes absolutely no sense in boating...except in the very rarest cases of extremely short back and forth traffic with light vessels, like in marina shuttle boats...maybe. But even then biofuels absolutely crush them in cost, emissions, environmental considerations, etc. All other use cases: nowhere near sensical. The only reason these electric things are pushed so much...with lies...is because they get taxpayer subsidies (and Winnie the Pooh's nation wants to use them as a geopolitical tool so pushes their taxpayer money as fake 'private sector financing') and it's a way for these people to grift some money for themselves. They do this because actually delivering functioning products in the really beneficial ICE market is impossible with their lack of education, talent, experience and work ethic. They can't compete in the honest part of the market. The world is full of scammers, and nowadays they're very organized. People: don't let them take advantage of you! And vote against this electric stuff: the true costs on taxpayers has been actively, purposefully hidden from you! No, I'm not a 'hater', I have a top brand electric outboard on one of my boats right now as we speak (currently out of the water for winter). I bought it half a decade ago already to test what they're like in practice.

      Hey up fella, a lot of interesting words there. I think you would like our project, it’s based on the same thoughts. “How realistic is electric and what can really be achieved” it’s a bid to ditch the sales pitch and document the real story of electric sailing by starting from the ground up. It’s likely we will need to build a hybrid to make the most sustainable yacht but then, is thy really the case? We’re out to explore the possibilities and expose the best way to look after our planet through fully documented research here in Sail Hub. For reference the project is called “the SailZero Project of which you can find a page on the Sail Hub website. www.sail-hub.com Cheers, Chris

      Thank you! Now wouldn’t that be epic! I imagine it would sound an alarm but that’s about it… mind you, if it can sound an alarm that alarm signal could be must be able to be adapted to control something like an autopilot? Mind you, I don’t think we are quite there yet. Blue Nav have just announced their new electronic positioning “anchor” maybe that’s something that could be linked. So you would end up static when the alarm sounds. That would be good too 👍

    Always interesting content. BUT .. "A palm-down handshake can be interpreted as a sign of dominance or aggression. By positioning your palm down, you are essentially forcing the other person to take a submissive position with their palm up. This type of handshake can be perceived as rude or disrespectful, and it is generally best to avoid it." I shudder every time you use it. The vendors have cooperated to your benefit and you choose to show your disrespect.

      Hey up matey. Much appreciated thanks for the feedback. I guess it could be seen as that but I’m pretty sure you all know it’s not, I really don’t have time for that. We only interview people we like and respect. It’s nothing intentional and I’m by no means aggressive or dominating. If it’s a subconscious thing I imagine it’s just me leading the interview if you like. I can guarantee you one thing, if I don’t state some authority on the channel it becomes a sales pitch through and through. We’ve done tones that don’t make the cut! To be honest I’m completely in awe of the guys, Manu is a total legend, he’s ept’s engineer and I can vouch for one thing, I really like the guy and love what he does. He’s a legend, like most of the people we speak too also, Andrej is also a legend, the founder of vision anchor, as for sales reps, sure, we’re not likely to get super in depth info but that’s not their job, if they give me their time I am always super appreciative. On the value note, the brands get a an awful lot more out of this than I do. I get RUclips comments which generally are positive and about $150 from Adsense, it doesn’t even come close to even paying a fuel bill to get there or even 1/4 of the ferry ticket. The brands get a free sales video that many charge thousands for and in that some can be very cheeky with it too.

      Hi Jenni here, thanks for the feedback, I just wanted to add that what you don’t see on camera is all the work around the filming; The time spent on their stand, getting to know them and their product. And then the time spent after filming to thank them again etc. I just wanted to point this out too as in the videos it seems like we just swing in and out. There’s a lot more discussing, manners and considerations for the brands from our side that goes into it than meets the eye. 👍🏼 Also Chris is a shipwright; not a presenter, host or interviewer; there is perhaps an element of nerves playing a part here which I’m sure you can understand. ❤️

Then again, I don't imagine you plan to sail the Arctic Ocean so this information will be of little use.ruclips.net/user/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f607.png 😇

As for Claire, she hasn’t really planned the next steps but there is talk of the north west passage though! That’s a fair point, I think it’s a dyneema of sorts so that should last a long time and knowing Andrej it will easily be replaced. The question your asking though, is how often do we need to replace it! Only testing will find out. Here’s hoping we get a sample for a few months.

    Can’t help but notice your overhand dominance hand shake, obviously sales reps will take the submissive position but meet someone who’s not trying to sell you something and you might get into a handshake pissing competition. Most of us are making subconscious impressions of a person whose handshake says he thinks he’s better than us. I do enjoy your expo tours fascinating tech starting to really hit the market. Cheers

      Hey thanks! Ima glad you like our work 👍 Interesting comment on the handshake too, not sure I think I’m better than anyone mind, that’s not the case. Im learning from the tech guys at all of these events we attend. That’s what I love about it!! If an overhand handshake means something I presume it because I’m leading the chat on camera where most people are quite nervous. I have to generally convince them beforehand that I will look after them and lead the conversation for them. Maybe that’s just me doing that, I hope.

    • @maccant4707
      @maccant4707 12 дней назад

      @ Hey it’s a body language thing, palm down dominant, palm up submissive, palm to the left equals. It’s all about what image you are trying to portray, you’ll often see politicians do the left hand on top of the opposites hand, the double handshake to show “I care”. Now you know the secret you can pick and choose, but never do the palm up handshake with a used car salesman. Also if someone offers you the palm down handshake which forces you to accept with your palm up, your job is to accept the handshake and turn it so you are on equal terms, it sends a message. Cheers and keep the new tech coming.
