I’m so glad Eskimo is still crossing oceans! I sailed her from Australia to South Africa just over 20 years ago, when I was about the same age as this young woman. I was pregnant for that crossing, and my daughter was born in Knysna. I was sad to see Eskimo sold a few years later after I had returned to Canada with my daughter. But seeing this video has made me so happy to see that Eskimo is still doing what she does best! I hope you have many more voyages with her!❤
So cool to hear this! Claire will be stoked to hear this and we’re amazed you found our video! Someone else mentioned seeing you in Cape Town in a comment earlier too! Small world!
Vraiment sympa!!!!!
I remember that boat from Knysna, South Africa about 20 years ago. She belonged to an old dude who had a very attractive young lady. They had a baby while in Knysna. After they departed, I bought the mooring slip which they had been using. She was really well maintained. I great sea boat! Good luck! What a story!
No way! That’s amazing! Yeah, a cool sturdy boat that’s for sure and she’s still being looked after now which is good, I do wonder where she will go in her!
So uplifting to see a young person take on such a huge as challenge like this. Courage. Strength. Determination. Spirit. In the sea miles ahead you may think at times these are not with you. They are. You will always find them still with you as you need.

I know your boat! We spent time together in Mexico and crossed the Pacific around the same time in the late 90's. Eskimo and I were in Raiatea for cyclone Alan. She was on the hard and was damaged in the storm. I was anchored in the lagoon. I have pictures of her after the cyclone. I'm so glad to see her on a new adventure!

Hey! You should hit her up over on Instagram, her details are in the description. However… if you want a dirty, hairy skipper I can help you out too 😆👍
Cheers Andy! Much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it! I think we’re gonna do another one on an Irish lad who built his own boat and sailed the Atlantic circuit on it! He’s just finishing his trip now! 👍😃
I just spent 6 yrs rebuilding a 35.9 ft sailboat I sailed up to Cape Breton from Toronto 2022 .. this year I sailed to St Pierre du Michelon and up to Newfoundland… next year Cape Breton to the Azores solo. You really nailed it talking about facing your mortality
Obviously must be optimum time of year... no doldrums. You know I see a lotta these newbies motorsailing rather than sailing. Hopefully she wasn't one of them.

Congrats to this young lady on an epic voyage. But I have a problem with the numbers. To sail 8000 miles in 48 days you have to average 6.94 knots. In a Dreadnought 32? That is a strong seaworthy boat but not known for being fast. Maybe rework those numbers.
Cheers!! Sail hubs sells… that’s cracks me up! We just let people know what’s out there, sharing our industry really. In reality I’m probably one of the most minimalist sailors, hardly use any tech at sea. A good anchor is paramount, good sails and sail trim and that’s all I really want to be honest.
For sure! Totally inspiring lass. But yeah… something must have gotten mixed up with the numbers somehow. Otherwise we would see a few more dreadnaughts in the vendee!
Ah, that’s because she wasn’t asked about it. We bumped into her in Motril and interviewed her there and made a video from it, it was a really cool experience.
.....................This solo sailing adventure begins in Richards Bay South Africa, subject of this interview, I think that everything that happened before on Sagar Rani with Jonathan is private and must remain so....Claire is unambiguously permanent in her narrative by simply indicating that she changed from a duo adventure to a solo adventure....................ruclips.net/video/mkkeNxbcsmc/видео.html
Yeah his first wifee gave up on him. Sad story at the end there in losing his boat and then passing on from cancer a number of years later. You know back in his day they didn't have GFS or ECMWF to track weather and onboard computers with SAT communications. Yeah this guy used a sextant.
It’s so refreshing to see someone that chooses a boat built to handle rough seas and ocean debris. Your background in sailing and past knowledgeable comes immediately into play by this choice. RUclips is now populated of midlife crisis naive adventurers that cross oceans on accidents waiting to happen.
Great vid. Did you know that Eskimo is a word rarely used in Canada? When referring to the Aboriginal Canadian peoples, we use the name they always had. Inuit. The singular form of Inuit is Inuk. Then again, I don't imagine you plan to sail the Arctic Ocean so this information will be of little use.ruclips.net/user/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f607.png 😇
I belive Eskimo is seen as rude sometimes. Me personally (Chris) am actually building a boat to go to the arctic which is super exciting! There will be more of that here in Sail Hub later. As for Claire, she hasn’t really planned the next steps but there is talk of the north west passage though! Mind you, she did not name her boat, that’s worth noting too, but I do believe it the only name it has ever had which is nice.
I wish! We’re super busy right now. We’re building a van to live in before we start a boat build… there’s are videos in the making, next one is out next a week Sunday…!sorry for the delay, it’s literally manic! We’ve managed a little on Instagram but even that is hard - we’ve got the two of us hard at it for 12 hours a day!!
@Mechanicsville804 but Claire gets the same from taking chocolate in here trips. I see your point I just thinks it’s a bit weird to be mentioning it in a scenario that has no mention of this.
When it is a female, all of a sudden the whole interview steers to her feelings. I want to hear about the preparations, provisioning, technical and navigational challenges, etc. Nevertheless, good work skipper!
She did good aye! For sure, there’s loads on this but we were more inspired by her attitude - it’s a rarity and awesome. Maybe being a boat builder, I get a bit bored of prep and all the rest and she set off with not much at all which really inspired me.
Great video ! Great story ! Felt like a mini documentary!

Hi! Thanks for commenting, Check out her social channels in the description!!
Cool! So many people have seen this boat on their travels! Claire will be pleased to have your support!
I’m looking at sailboats right now and to go on exploration, your number one candidate to be my captain anytime I sail,
Hey! You should hit her up over on Instagram, her details are in the description. However… if you want a dirty, hairy skipper I can help you out too 😆👍
Sorry, then you may not make to cut no scrubs aboard..
@bigalphadog5209 😆 I’m sure you’ll get over that for an exploration!
Heureux de decouvrir ta chaine
Merci!!!!!
Beautiful boat and solid and of course beautiful woman thumbs up
Yes, thank you! 🤙⛵️⛵️
****WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SEA GOING CRAFT. VERY WELL DESIGNED INDEED..****
For sure! There’s been a few of them boats go around!
Beautiful 😊
Excellent Video
Cheers Andy! Much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it! I think we’re gonna do another one on an Irish lad who built his own boat and sailed the Atlantic circuit on it! He’s just finishing his trip now! 👍😃
I just spent 6 yrs rebuilding a 35.9 ft sailboat I sailed up to Cape Breton from Toronto 2022 .. this year I sailed to St Pierre du Michelon and up to Newfoundland… next year Cape Breton to the Azores solo. You really nailed it talking about facing your mortality
@andytrotter5497 yeah, she’s a proper legend ay!!
Mate, well done with your trip and your build! Tthat sounds epic!
8,000 nm; 48 days. That is a 167 nm per day avg. 7 kn per hour in a 32 foot boat. Pretty amazing
Aye, not so convincing
Obviously must be optimum time of year... no doldrums. You know I see a lotta these newbies motorsailing rather than sailing. Hopefully she wasn't one of them.
@@leecowell8165 The title is confusing for that ;) It was a total of 8000 miles from Cape Town to Britanny, in 3 parts: 16 days, 48 days, and 16 days ;) with a broken engine in the doldrums I can assure you I'm not one of the motorsailing's team!! 😅
@vincentmiceli2554 Hey Vincent, Claire here! @cavoguesureskimo1170 cheers Claire, got our wires crossed somewhere! For sure, your no motor sailor. No question there lass!! 👍⛵️🤙
Encouraging!
Yeah! She’s a super inspiring lass 👍

Say Hello from Central Java Indinesia❤❤❤👍👍👍
👍👌 cheers ⛵️🍻
bravo !
Cheers Remy!
Congrats to this young lady on an epic voyage. But I have a problem with the numbers. To sail 8000 miles in 48 days you have to average 6.94 knots. In a Dreadnought 32? That is a strong seaworthy boat but not known for being fast. Maybe rework those numbers.
Agreed! What can I say, she must have a slippery bottom! 😂
Or a monumental embelisher?
@@petermiller114 for sure! I can certainly verify I’ve never seen a speeding Dreadnaught! Although, I’ve only seen two!
@@SailHub I toured their facility many years ago in Carpenteria, Cal. Great people building solid boats. Not fast boats!
@petermiller114 that would have been a great tour! But yeah, their intention is sturdy not fast! FYI The stats aren’t mine so I can’t change them.
Your right, she should!
@@SailHub Tell her 😀👍
We already did!!
She’s a busy woman that’s for sure, you should get in touch with her and tell her. 👍
This is very nice video, and none of the stuff that sail hub sells on her boat :D
Cheers!!
Sail hubs sells… that’s cracks me up! We just let people know what’s out there, sharing our industry really. In reality I’m probably one of the most minimalist sailors, hardly use any tech at sea. A good anchor is paramount, good sails and sail trim and that’s all I really want to be honest.
I love Her! She is a huge inspiration to me and my solo sailing endeavors. However, 8000 miles in 48 days? Really?
For sure! Totally inspiring lass. But yeah… something must have gotten mixed up with the numbers somehow. Otherwise we would see a few more dreadnaughts in the vendee!
The title is confusing for that ;) It was a total of 8000 miles from Cape Town to Britanny, in 3 parts all solo: 16 days, 48 days, and 16 days ;)
dam thas crazy
Yup, she’s a belter! 🤙⛵️
Why she doesn't speak about the break up with her "friend"? Sagarani
@paul-louisczapek2321 good shout Paul

167 miles per days is great!
Probably a miss communication there… after all she is a Dreadnaught!
Very French: "Know you may die, and then you can be happy" lol
Oui! 😂😆
Goodonyadarlin'!
Cheers Bob! You should check out her social pages in the description too 👍
Go girl 👧 beautiful..2 jibs wow 👌
Cheers for commenting John! Claire will be stoked to hear such words! 👍
@SailHub I'm thinking 🤔 of getting into sailing ⛵️ it's fascinating..this girl 👧 great inspiration. 👍
She managed evru by herself.
Sure did, she’s a never ending explorer so goodness knows where she will go next!!
❤❤❤🤙🤙🙏
Cheers 😀
I can put some beers in the bilge .....most important...she would have got on with Moitessier...😊
Don’t forget the chocolate! That’s important!
Yeah his first wifee gave up on him. Sad story at the end there in losing his boat and then passing on from cancer a number of years later. You know back in his day they didn't have GFS or ECMWF to track weather and onboard computers with SAT communications. Yeah this guy used a sextant.
@leecowell8165 what a sad story.
@@SailHub read...The long way round..Bernard Moitessier and The Venerable voyages of John Voss in the Tilikum.
Thanks, Bernard Moitessier was a proper legend ay!
It’s so refreshing to see someone that chooses a boat built to handle rough seas and ocean debris. Your background in sailing and past knowledgeable comes immediately into play by this choice. RUclips is now populated of midlife crisis naive adventurers that cross oceans on accidents waiting to happen.
Hey, yeah she totally nailed the nosy for her sailing! You can follow her on Instagram too, link in the description!

That’s a tough sail #whyfathersmatter
Sure is! She did her father proud for sure!
Mind you, she did not name her boat, that’s worth noting too, but I do believe it the only name it has ever had which is nice.
you guys retired lol?
@@SailHub sent you that boat engine picture to try and discover model
It’s a volvo penta I think but which one it is I’m not sure without seeing it properly.
@@gatecrasher1970 never got the pic to the email btw… just a message.
C’mon, give her a break. She’s being interviewed in English for an English YT channel.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Well isn’t that great! Not really seeing the relevance here though.
@@SailHub because of your fear of death, you don’t have to be afraid when you look to Jesus Christ because He gives everlasting life.
@Mechanicsville804 I’m aware of that and it’s quite handy but I don’t see the relevance to Claire’s story.
@Mechanicsville804 but Claire gets the same from taking chocolate in here trips. I see your point I just thinks it’s a bit weird to be mentioning it in a scenario that has no mention of this.
Hey up Vincent, just so you know, it wasn’t us who deleted your note if it were on here, maybe RUclips is playing up.. it does that.
