Thank you and fair winds
Ain’t you little old for all this?
That's not the first time that I have heard this, lol. I'm not ready to give this up just yet!
Never to old to do your passion
Lol
No! Never!
what a weird thing to say
"A typical day at sea", still better than a day at the office.
absolutely
IF IT WERE WE WOULD ALL GO TO SEA...................HA HA
Eh
Id definitely prefer to be in the office.
@@spymaine89 yeah everyone in the world let’s just buy some boats and then none of us would have to work and we could all eat fish and suck each others thumbs😁
nice to see a proper sailor here on youtube
This would give me so much anxiety haha
Quite the experience I'm sure
As a solo sailor, you are really in the moment when you are out there, and with that focus there's no room for anxiety. Thanks for the comment
@@SailingWaveRover yea that's what it looks like. Calm cool and collected ready for the weather! Great content!
Swap it for all the other anxieties then
Wow, interesting, it would being such great peace to me. I wouldn't have to spend my days fixing other people's screw ups
Lots of respect for this man. Looks like he's found a lifestyle that he truly enjoys.
If you can't find a lifestyle to enjoy then make your own. The key is: don't hurt anyone in the endeavor
I'm a fairly solitary creature by nature, but the shots of that gray ocean, the fog, no horizon to be seen gave me as lonesome, hopeless & heavy a feeling as I've ever known.
It took me "back in time" and made me wonder how many men have stood looking forlorn into that gray nothing with a heavy burden on their souls?
Hats off to you sir, I couldn't do this if I tried.
I believe its also a challenge and complete self reliance. Man against the elements.
Imagine being the first men to sail into the unknown.
@@rajgill7576 I think the ship would have sank with the weight of their balls.
Great comment, very deep...it leaves me reflecting on the voyage.
Profound and beautifully stated ☮️
Spending the pandemic at sea is a good choice.
It is kind of taking this social distancing thing too far, eh?
Cant believe he isnt wearing a mask. Gonna kill grandma
*catches COVID from a seagull
Pandemic?
Lol not when you come near any port. Quarantine time.
I've noticed that In terms of sailing, videos are always more interesting when the youtuber is solo.
As a land lover with a fear of the open ocean I salute any and every sailor brave enough to face the sea. From lowly solo sailors to Navy sailors I respect it.
I grew up on the North Atlantic coast line. Strangely you loose your fear. Never your respect. Knew a lot of fatherless kids due to storms. Such a sad yearly event. Lobster men and trawlers mostly. The worst was when the Thresher went down. Devastated the entire town.
@@cwmaxfield2000 born and raised in Boston Ma. Been on and In the ocean my whole life never got over the fear haha
This is the coolest random channel I've ever come across
Thanks and welcome aboard
There goes my solo sailing career before it has even started! There is no way I could sleep in 20 minute chunks for many consecutive nights. But hats off to those who can.
You get used to it pretty fast and then you sleep like a log when you have your first beer ashore.
Worlds best video , legendary 😂
I always like when old people video tape things and document things. It has that home movie vibe but at the same time it's like a professionally done home movie. Only someone with years of experience can do this
I love sleeping while underway so much. You get used to the noise and it sort of becomes comforting. the best sleep I've ever had is while sailing.
Feels like I’m being rocked to sleep
Until the sea or wind changes and you're suddenly awake and don't know why.
You, sir, have the balls I'll never have. Congratulations.
I absolutely love your boat. I could live in it full time and be happy for life.
What a mighty little boat, I love how simple this life is, wishing you safe travels!
Thanks so much!
He needs a periscope over his bunk so he can look out for other ships his bed
Then you wake up and sit up and it bonks you in the head so hard you see stars
@@acek2016 Nah, you make it retractable, like on a sub. Plus it ups the cool factor of your operation exponentially.
It would probably leak water n with the boat moving he probably would hardly be able to see anything anyways
@@bigshmoke9653 Well, yeah, but... cool! You have to keep things in perspective.
Your lifestyle is fascinating. I don't know where I went wrong that I ended up working from a home office. I should be doing something extraordinary like you! Cheers 🥂
Go for it!
You are a true inspiration for all us wannabe adventurers. Thank you .
Wow, thank you
Please keep happy and safe ,enjoy everything
Thank you for maintaining a tidy and clean boat
Enjoyed all your sailing videos Alan! Just noticed your bare toes...on that chilly day LOL
I didn't want to get another pair of socks wet. Lol
I find that interesting to see the daily activities.. Thank you.
Always nice to hear from you.
i admire how organize and clean u r
Thanks. A clean ship is a happy ship
i want to do this so bad. this spring im going to find myself a little boat to start practicing on the massive lake near my home.
You live in Michigan? I'm in kalamazoo.
@@ron7570 i do not! i live in british columbia
This is my pretty much unattainable dream. Thankyou for sharing a day in such a cool life
And thank you for watching
I just find solo sailor videos amazingly relaxing. I guess part of that is I don't have to deal with the stress, planning, organising and everything else that goes into what you are sharing. I am grateful that you share though. Safe travels and please continue to inspire folks like this middle aged land lubber that no matter what your age you CAN do what you need to do given the will. Respect!
When you said 16,000 feet deep .. shivers down me spine. Made me think of pirates and old wood ships caught in heavy seas and sinking with ppl still down in the galley or locked up and having no choice but to go down with the ship into what would be painful depths and then lights out. Scary.

Speaking of sealife ..I was on a tanker out in the Gulf of Mexico a few yrs ago waiting for the Launch Boat to come pick me up from about 20 miles offshore and I'm standing out on deck leaning against the side rails looking out into the ocean. Was about an hour before sundown. Still 90+° and all the sudden a single Dolphin swam along the side. Now I'm on a 800ft long oil tanker and this dolphin looked tiny so I figured it was a baby that's lost. Then an actual baby dolphin rolled out from underneath her. It was her baby dolphin. Had to have been a few days old. Maybe a week or two. It was one of the coolest most amazing things I've ever witnessed. The baby put the size back to normal and I could now see she was full grown. I was about 60ft up on a almost empty vessel. Then I watched them for a few mins just nudge and nuzzle each other and before I knew it they were gone and everyone of my shipmates(5 of them) I had called over on the radio came running over and they said "what was it, what was it, was it a shark." So I lied and said yup. Probably a great white or a bullshark. They, GW's, do come into the Gulf of Mexico BTW. Not like they are on the Pacific coast but they do. Several with gps trackers basically swam the entire coast line. Anyway... It made for a better story as they wouldn't have really cared about a dolphin and her new baby dolphin 🐬. Seeing that whale appear immediately reminded me of a really cool day I had while I was at sea. Thank you. Great video also
Thanks for a great comment
The open ocean is my greatest fear but damn that is by definition amazing
Wonderful and informative video. Thanks a bunch!
Great adventure in the North Atlantic Ocean. I like it your bravery in tiny boat .Fair winds always .Be safe captain ⛵
Thank you!
I use boots to keep my socks dry when I'm on the deck, I can see you make it simpler LOL. Good sailing greetings from Denmark
It’s nice to consider your sailing boat as another human being.
Stay healthy and be safe!
That looks good I think I will take one. Thank you
This guy is the real deal. Hard work. Living the legend.
Thank you my friend. I'm just putting the video together of the new season where I will build Wave Rover 2
@@SailingWaveRover that sounds great bud. Ill check them out. Im working on aquiring a sailboat myself. I never seriously thought about building one. Perhaps thats the way to go!
@@ansuz444 This will be my third boat build. A very rewarding endeavor.
@@SailingWaveRover That's awesome! I build stuff for a living but to me, the thought of building a boat is intimidating. Thanks for the inspiration!
You're a brave soul. 🤙😀
Fantastic. Good luck.
Sailing nicely
This was such a pleasure to watch. Thank you.
This makes me anxious. I would never be able to head out on my own. You're such a champ and I am glad you're enjoying yourself. Stay safe out there :)
3:09 I have always wondered on smaller ships like this how do they cook. That stove made so much sense!!!
Brilliant stuff 👍🏼
I finally realized what your dinghy reminds me of. A red solo cup!
Damn dude. Good tip on the hypothermia. .Many people might not think to be looking out for that
Keep moving sir.. hope you'll always in good health👍👍
Luv from Kuala Lumpur.
So nice of you.
About Sleep. I've always been nocturnal. I still work a grave yard shift. Besides sailing dog mushing is my number one passion. Countless miles standing vertical on the runners. A lot of my cohorts are in to sailing. Similar qualities of a different pastime. 👍👍👍 Fair winds ❤
Did you ever sell your old boat? Damn that would be the ticket for me.
I may very well be boat shopping when I get to Nova Scotia but that's a year away. I'm Leary of my swing keel in the North Atlantic though they are used. See how life goes.
Bob is... well was my uncle he passed away 4 years ago and I miss him. He was one of the most laid back people I've ever met.
What a great storyteller you are, Alan. Thank you. I watched this a couple of days ago and then binged about the last 20 episodes. Great job bringing us along. Cheers!
Thank you so much for the comment and taking the time to watch WR as she comes to the end of her voyage.
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent. Thank you & GOD bless
Ok I live off grid in a tiny camper trailer just outside of Copenhagen's most Beautiful sprawling wildlife preserve and public park Valby Park. But ya better believe it's cold in winter here in Scandinavia's most temperate country. So, when I rave about the efficiency and effectiveness and safety of the cheap clean Chinese diesel heater believe me I ain't just whistling Dixey. In my tight quarters I'd be dead dead dead if there was even a hint of a Carbon monoxide problem. Just don't place pump near a heat source give a little distance from diesel tank. It just sipps fuel. I'm street musician in a foreign country every penny counts. What I forgot to mention is unlike propane it's Dry Heat it's not going to allow mildew to form if ran daily.
Today's episode of things I would die trying....
There's a great sense of entertainment knowing you are doing something I would not survive if I suddenly were thrown into this position..
Woke up and read the comment and had the first laugh of the day. Thanks for the comment.
Very humble and your patience is very admirable. Lovely video thank you.
Thanks for your comment.
Absolute respect for you. The ocean is probably the place I fear the most. I cannot comprehend taking it on solo! I hope you stay safe.
So much bravery.
When you’re not looking outside, how do you know you’re not going to sail straight into a massive cargo or cruise ship? Or vice-versa.
I keep a visual watch , usually every 15-20 minutes at night and less frequently during daytime hours. I also have an AIS receiver built into my VHF that alerts me to shipping in my immediate area.
@@SailingWaveRover Sounds like a lot of naps
The ocean is actually not as small as you might think! And most shipping takes place on fixed shipping routes so outside of those the chances are pretty slim.
He doesn't, thats why fishermen, coastgaurds and lifeboat men hate you WAFI, nor do they monitor their radio properly, nor do they bother with a radar reflector. solo sailing is unsafe & stupid and anti social. Oh, and btw your lines look to be in shit order.
This is fascinating. It's the first video of yours I've watched and I'm not even sure how I stumbled upon it. I'm guessing I've got a lot of content to catch up on. One thing from this video is it would be good if in one corner of the screen now and then you showed where you are at that particular time.
Keep on keepin on!!! Great work!
very informative, thank you for your uploads
Glad you like them!
Congratulations on your courage,
good luck,
Joseph.
Thank you very much Joseph and have yourself a merry Christmas!
It is amazing to see someone(you in this case) rollin' trough the ocean in such a little bathtub.. Also, it is admirable the way your boat is rigged and the philosophy behind every step you make.. Just keep out of the wrong latitudes, all the best..
Brilliant ,good luck , wish I had the guts to that all
Cheers from the mountains of Colorado, where 50F is a heat wave suitable for shorts. Of course, it's an "arid high plain" here, so the humidity is single digits :)
U got balls of steel to be out there on ur own mate👍🏻
This is immensely brave and interesting. You are living the dream.
It was a dream come through.
Truly amazing way to live your life Sir! Love your content.
It's only in the last few years that I have realized how fortunate I am to be able to persue these adventures. I hope that the future can be as kind to me. Thanks for the comment.
Another great video...That dog house with all those port windows certainly allows you a lot of comfort from having to go outside to check your surroundings. You know you are getting close to eastern Canada when you encounter all that fog.
Very true!
Paddington Bear at 5:55. Another fascinating video
I was actually shooting for the Captain Highliner, the look anyway.
Great video champ, very informative and makes one jealous lol! Safe travels!

I would want to be on a much much, bigger boat!
the Contessa 26 is a very seaworthy boat.. full keel etc.
Chill whilst you cruise got my attention to sailing. Don't get me on false pretence but it looks like fun.
Looks like a lot of fun and it was very informational. I love my e reader too, can't beat having hundreds of libraries worth of books at your fingertips, plus it's easy on the eyes.
Thanks for the video
Just found your channel and I have to say that what a great adventure you are having. Inspiring Sir

The sound of waves lapping against Wave Rover sounds so pleasing; you’re a lot braver than I to be out there on your own!
Hester Henrietta Well you're a girl.
@@TylerScottMillawa how many oceans have you crossed?
I love the minimalism of this boat , if you’re ever short of a topic I’d love to know in costs and study what it takes to enter the hobby in a non ambitious way.
Will do!
Wow! Amazing video!
Glad you think so!
This is so cool sometimes my imagination is like what is on this video sailing alone in stormy seas reading books while drinking coffee ❤️
Hey cool, I was wondering if attaching a Lee cloth to the handrails was acceptable. I don't want to install u bolts if not necessary 😁 thanks for teaching me that
I also wear shoes to keep my feet dry. You and me have a lot in commen.
Love that!
Looooool you made me giggle sir.
great advise
Happy sailing Alan! You’re inspiring this Canuck to follow in your footsteps.
This Canuck as well!
Delighted to hear this, what part of Canada are you from.
That’s scary af
I bet you sleep so good with the rocking and stuff wow
Man I love the idea of getting out there and sailing like this. What an adventure!
What a delightful slice of an experience!
Glad that you enjoyed it.
When you said you were reading Somerset Maugham I knew I'd found the right solo sailor to emulate :-) The Razor's Edge has been my all-time favorite novel since I was about 20 (which is 33 years ago...gulp). I'm really enjoying your travels and you're inspiring me to take the plunge myself. Take care and stay safe :-)
These solo voyages are as much about inward development as they are ocean miles. Great comment and welcome aboard. The new season will start in a few weeks.
Id love to have an experience like this.
Me too. :/ I think it would be neat
great video. the new you re building is super
You're a brave man. This is so interesting to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
have you seen anything unusual while out at sea, like things in the sky you cant identify or orbs of lights in the distant horizon at night
I’ve loved your videos. It’s helped me prep for my future single handed sail from the PNW down to Panama. Please do a how to use the steering gear video if you can. It’s a wonderful design. I know you have now projects, and I bet you are very busy with that.
I will get that last Mk3 video completed soon. Thanks for the patience
Cant believe you never roll over !! Good job

I hope so! But it wasn't so bad before or was it?
