Another fine video Alan. Your image in your videos attests to the validity of your approach to a healthy diet. Sound body and mind, as you have stated, are important prerequisites to making a successful and safe, extended voyage. What a blessing for us old timers to experience, in the comfort of our own familiar surroundings, an exciting voyage to distant ports. Thank you for sharing all those moments with us and also for providing the back stories that make all your videos very interesting.
Orthodox Christian here, right now is our Nativity Fast, 28 Nov-7 Jan, we abstain from wine, meat, eggs oil and dairy, we can have fish, but only on Fridays... Fair winds skipper, and all the best⛵ ☦️
Anyone interested in Alan's diet (as I am) should read the article on keto diets in the Harvard Medical School publishing website, it's easy to find online.
Very much appreciate the life stories! 45 years ago I knew all there was to know, but as Thoreau said, "When all you use is your knowledge you learn nothing". What a relief it was, and is, to conquer such an impediment to learning! Thanks for taking us along on the journey!
I really enjoy your videos! If I may utter a wish it would be an added screenshot from Navionics or similar to get a feel of your position and headway. Btw I fully agree with the wisdom of OMAD for guys in our age group, it is an excellent way to keep all sorts of bodiliy disturbancies at bay and stay healthy as long as possible.
Map location and details on the progress of the voyage would be a fine addition. Mostly I enjoy the technical sailing and seeing the conditions on the water but I also value the wisdom and courage. I mean, no way would I be brave enough.
The Mk lll continues to impress as does WR2’s bright and cheerful cabin … thanks for taking us along on your grand adventure in 2024. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs Rover … hope you can spend the holidays together. All the best from Montreal and … hold fast! ⛵️🎄🇨🇦⚓️😄
Another great video, Alan! Your tool box story reminded me of how I moved my couch out of our first apartment. We took the stairs bringing the couch in, and it was a bear! I vowed to never do that again, and moving out, we got it out through the 2nd story balcony. I could see in my wife's eyes she had her doubts, and the neighbors were poised to film the next clip for the Fail Army, but it worked out great. The second time around (new apartment, 2nd story again), we ended up dropping the couch from the balcony... But i dont think anyone filmed. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Rover!
Neat boat for solo passage making. I love the Junk style rig. I am kind of concerned about how vulnerable it seems when the big hatch is pivoted open. That is a big unprotected hole and it seems that you need to open it to assist in balance when working the rig. I know the contessa had a similar hatch, but it was more vertical and the boat was deeper. I am working on making my albert designed Bristol Corinthian safer for offshore/emergency conditions. The wide deep standard companionway is a big weak point on my boat. I trust your design decisions and would love to see an explanation of how and why you decided on this type of arrangement.
Been sailing and windsurfing my whole life. Approaching retirement now and I dream of sailing around the world the first few years. But then I get anxious, thinking about being alone during crazy storms or any other number of situations. What's the most scary thing of sailing solo? What's the best part of sailing solo? Go Rover!! Edit: I do have an '85 Pearson 28-2 but that won't be my retirement boat!
I retired and moved on my 34-foot boat ten years ago (now in Panama). Weather forecasting and navigation are so good, nowadays, that bad weather is mostly avoidable. The real reality of cruising is lots of maintenance and repairs, so cruise in a boat that you can continually rebuild yourself.
Alan i was wondering if you could put some running back stays on your rig....? Not that yours needs it, but is there room? I'm building a Weekender and am thinking of a junk rig too... Thanks and I appreciate your adventures.
Things I would like to know- air and sea temperature; ETA Ireland, plan for after arrival in Ireland. Do you have a map or chart so you could point out to us approximately your position. You are crossing the approaches to the English Channel. I'd think there would be a lot of ship traffic there, but you haven't mentioned it.
Your diet is the antithesis of the diet of the average modern man who is consuming vast amounts of carbs, sugars, and seed oils in a non-stop snack cycle of crap. Good on ya man. I hope more people will get an awakening and find the will to break out of the trap that they are in. (It's not easy because the addictive chemicals are built right into the 'food'!) My opinions only folks 😊
Interesting snippet: if you are on the great circle from Horta to Baltimore you will have sailed within a few miles of the Bismarck wreck site 48°09'N 016°07'W
That "sailor's soliloquy" was out of the blue. The drum music .....wow. Keep shaving.
The ocean is always moving, like it’s alive.Thats why I love it.

I love the life stories. Can you show us some pictures of that wharrham catamaran you built?
Hi Allan, I hope that you' ll get to Ireland before new years eve !

Fair wind captain. Nice to see you in good shape. Am impressed by the Mk3.
Mk3 is the best helmsman onboard

Great video. Thanks for the health lesson. Your first mate feels better with the new line. Safe sailing.
Good point about the MK3 being the first mate

Alan you are an adventurer. I enjoy watching your work. Inspiring and a little scary. It wouldn’t be an adventure without the scariness. Stay safe.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your kind words!

Nice upgrade on the Musto jacket Allan
It's only on loan to me
@@RoversAdventure nice to have friends :)

Lots of ‘fung sway’ obvious in WR2 every viewpoint. Best wishes this Christmas season and beyond.

You are very welcome
I have to ask, does the sail work better in front or behind the mast? Can it take the same load on either side?
As long as the battens are correctly sized it works just as well on either side
Hi. Have absolutely loved your journey. Quick question, is it possible to hove to with the chineses gaff rig? Fair winds and following seas.
Yes it can hove to and I have done it several times
Alan i was wondering if you could put some running back stays on your rig....? Not that yours needs it, but is there room? I'm building a Weekender and am thinking of a junk rig too... Thanks and I appreciate your adventures.
I believe it would be too awkward due to the sail shape

I see that you have upgraded your wet weather gear, Allan.
What is the story there? gary in japan
It was just a loan that I had to return when I got to Ireland
Hunger is also for me a good reminder to pray.
Alan, do you have to set it up anew when you replaced the rope on your steering gear? A qyestion from a non sailor. Nearly there.
It was a very quick change up

Well said. And I might add that it only takes about 3 weeks to get over the addictive chemicals on average
Weird eating habits with occasional sailing channel.
Occasional sailing????
Don't you just hate it when you're trying to sail in a washing machine?
Stay safe and have a great holiday.
Merry Christmas Doctor

That is interesting. I wasn't aware of that.
As soon as religion was mentioned I turned off and thumbs down.
I wish you a Merry Christmas none the less.
