Don’t feel bad. I am missing the general gene that suppresses general tumors and I am still here in late middle age. It’s amazing what’s possible. Genes are only a tendency, not fate. And everyone should know that.
Thanks for sharing your story. I’ve started having PSA tests as I’m in my late 40s. There is a new initiative called TRANSFORM being launched to look into the best way to screen for prostate cancer.
Yes, this is very exciting, I got a call from Prostate Cancer UK a few weeks ago about this. It seems the medical world are taking us seriously about screening for this cancer.
I was so worried about that too. I just got my genetic results and glad to report I do not carry the BRACA 1 or BRCA2 mutation and 34 other genes. All were negative. Keep the faith brother!
@@Livingwith-prostatecancer Thanks bud! I’m praying for you. This has been a nightmare!!!! I had my PSMA PET last week which shows no spread. I meet either the uro next week to discuss treatment. I’ve done so much research and I’ve found that with a negative PSMA scan I can forego the hormone treatment and repeat the PSMA IN 6 months after surgery. If something lights up I’ll do spot radiation in its baby stages to eradicate it.
I am in onkouni hospital in very serious metastatic stage, nerval compression and cant walk any more. But after mri, ct, I get now 5 cycles of radiation and legs are some better. Can walk 30meters. So I am full optomist, not depressive, must endure psa about 600now. But it goes. It goes well.
Try tomato sauce therapy. Take 20+ grams of tomato puree or paste 3 times a day with added spoons of ketchup. It's working for me. It's worth looking into.
I have never thought of being polite to the machines! I am always polite to the doctors and nurses and other healthcare workers. They do an amazing job and we can show our appreciation and gratitude by treating them with courtesy and respect.
You're welcome Woody. I'm in a study, so i get scans every six months. They schedule them in one day, as it's a bit of a drive. My next set of scans are in June. Like you say, one has to keep in mind that the scans are there to help us. Thanks for the reminder, as scanxiety is always present. Got a tip for the fatigue. Have a coffee late afternoon. It will keep you going through the evening, but won't affect your sleep. (Zoladex and Xtandi tend to wake me up a bit, but after nine months, the hot flashes are getting less, and sleep is better). We really have to take it one day at a time. Thanks for the reminder. Enjoy the weekend, rest! Regards Carl
I am deeply grateful to you, dear Woody, you gave me aleays a lot of moral help to not fall in despair. My heart and best wishes for your health are always wit you. You will winn over cancer for sure.
Woody please don’t beat yourself up about the gene pool. I totally understand where you are coming from. My husband has advanced prostate cancer and we have a son so he needs careful vigilance . You are amazing person and battling this so well. Good luck with the walking 👏
I am a bit claustrophobic like you Woody, but the scans don’t bother at all - I just shut my eyes (and think of England!) I had a PSMA -PET scan last week my first will find out this week how that stacks up against what the MRIs show. Good to hear that the exercise is going well it is key to beating this!
@@Livingwith-prostatecancer Thanks Woody. The pet scan showed up mets that had disappeared from the mri scan. I was sort of expecting that as the pet scan is so much more sensitive than the MRI. I now have a baseline pet scan, so I can get another one in 6 months and see how they compare. A week ago I had another MRI scan ( that will be my third MRI) so we will see how that looks as well. I think that the more data you have the better the
Woody, bone scans and Chemo, had that and probably will again , Dr Mark Scholz 30 years Oncologist dealing with Prostate cancer only, not jack of all trades, you tube PCRI , his preferred treatment in this case is PSMA pet scan and radio offending area only not chemo everything including good healthy cells, I am in South yorkshire and there is a PSMA pet scan at Western park but I have not been able to access it so far, I am interested to know is there any areas of UK where oncologists are more enlightened, educated than mine in South Yorkshire, Phil
Hang in there Woody! How much did PSA double? Were you on oral chemo at all? You know we are twins on this path of prostate cancer. I get new scans in a few weeks. Just finished two weeks of radiation - my fourth time! Had the biomarker test and it came back with results that indicated prime for prostate cancer…duh! I have it already. Liquid chemo is on the horizon if my psa continues to climb. Yes, we get tired of all the tests, scans, pain…..but we are still greeting the sunrises! So hang in there buddy.
My PSA is still rather low but it’s gone up again today to 2.6 from 1.7 so the rate has slowed down a bit which is good news, but my oncologist wants me to start chemo next it all depends on my scan results which I’ll find out about on June 6th. I try to put it all out of my mind and focus on living as well as I can.
Dear Woody do not fall in the medicine trap of fear what all bad genes you might statistically cary to children, the same number of bad genes carries your wife for sure, so father and mother are equal in any case and result. Medicine is not always patient friendly!

Woody your dialog is always from your heart, you reflect living with prostrate cancer. Thanks for sharing, and you be strong.

It’s just a thing I’ve been doing since the start, sounds crazy I know but the machines are doing there bit so I thank them😀
