Why are you not doing a double mastectomy?! My father was a brilliant pathologist and would recommend not only a double mastectomy but a complete hysterectomy as well! Breast cancer is a reproductive cancer! During autopsies of breast cancer patients, my dad found ovarian cancer as well! Perhaps, freeze your eggs but you already have one beautiful daughter! Don't risk your life to have additional children! Your daughter wants and needs you to stay alive!
First of all, I’m sure your father was a wonderful pathologist! Since you said “was,” I’m assuming he’s no longer alive or at least no longer working. There have been sooo many improvements and new findings with breast cancer over the years. I am not doing a double mastectomy because the cancer has already spread to other parts of my body and so it won’t benefit me. Also, research shows that it does not improve survival chances over lumpectomy. We have powerful ovarian suppression medications today and research shows that removing ovaries does not increase survival chances over using those medications. My eggs are frozen and I am not planning on having additional children. That is not why I am choosing to not do these surgeries. I am not choosing to do them because they are unnecessary and won’t prolong my life. They are also permanent and can cause permanent side effects. It would be more risky for me to deal with the possible complications that come with these surgeries. Thank you so much for your concern and I appreciate your advice. I am pinning your comment because it seems many others have had similar questions
I think as soon as she's cancer free she's going to want another big mistake.
My wife had cancer in one breast and did a double mastectomy. Her doctor recommended it
@@bobs1356you are being cruel.
@bobs1356 why do you leave repeated hateful comments? You have left 70 comments, all negative. Why? She has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, do you get pleasure from tearing people down? Why do this to someone during the fight of their life? Get help. THINK BEFORE YOU COMMENT.
I am stage 4 breast cancer also and it's in my liver and I go for a scan of the brain Monday. I pray we both get great news.❤
Good luck to you also.
Hope it goes well!
I've had several MRI already. The last one I did without music. It didn't make much difference. They are noisy and I liked listening to the steady beat of the drum(my own heartbeat). Hey we are warriors!
I had it in my liver and it went away after chemo. Brain scans are nerve raking. You would think after you've had a few you'd get use to them and CT scans, but you never really do.
I hope you get good news, too
Remember, Suzanne Sommers was diagnosed in their early 2000s, and lived until her 70s. That’s like over 23 years. Jill Eikennberry, , from LA law back in the 1980s, has had cancer for over 20 years and is doing just fine. Cancer does not necessarily portend a short life like it did 50 or 60 years ago, just like AIDS.may not be a cure, but treatment is better than ever in history and it’s getting better every single day. You got this!
Yes there is hope. There is always hope.
Everyone different. Maybe they didn't all have stage 4.
Praying for no evidence of disease! Rock on butterfly 🦋 ❤
Praying for good news and no issues 🙏 ❤
Thank you :)
I am quite shocked that samantha is having to defend herself because of thoughtless mindless idiots probably trolls..
This young lady is doing so well so please if you dont have something nice to say - SAY NOTHING!
Lol thank you. I love the genuine questions and want to help give answers! But there are definitely some crazies every now and then :)
I agree. We all make the best choices for us. You never know what you’ll do until faced with the decisions. I support everyone making their own decisions.
@@SamanthaLyou take it like a champ tho.
Waiting for the results is hard as MBC is complex. I was diagnosed with HER2+ Stage IV from the get go. I get CT and echocardiograms every 4 months. I just had them and am currently in remission/maintenance for 3 years. I did have only a biopsy for diagnosis and underwent chemotherapy. No mastectomy. It is no longer in my breast or liver but remains in my bone. I receive pertuzumab/trastuzumab injection every 21 days. I cherish life even with pain. I admire you for being so articulate with the public as must people simply don't know what life is like thriving with this disease. We will continue to thrive!
We will! :)
@@SamanthaL My goal is another 5 years and when I reach it I can set another!
@@cindyscharr457 love that!!
@@SamanthaL Laughter is good medicine and I'm still trying to figure out social media commenting. I think it is time for bed, we all need our beauty rest. So much to learn and so little time.
Keep strong dear Samantha 🙏🙏❤️🇬🇷
Thank you so much for checking in Samantha. It’s great to hear that you are tolerating the anti hormonal treatment better this time around. And it is clearly WORKING! Something tells me that this is the best weapon they have for us at the moment. Oh how I wish they would develop more effective meds with fewer side effects. Maybe soon. Until then, ONWARD and FORWARD we will go together. Xx
Thank you 🙏🏼 for sharing the update Samantha. I’m always praying for you. Can’t remember if I told you but I recently passed 10 years in February with Stage 4 MBC. My 55th birthday is in a few days. Celebrating 🥳 the small and big victories. I too chose the lumpectomy route in the beginning and I felt it was the best option for me. There’s always going to be armchair doctors that although I’m sure mean well but it’s your journey and I’m just so happy 😀 for you and your husband and your little girl. Sending you virtual hugs 🤗 and positive vibes 🦋
💜💜 10 years is amazing! Congrats!

Thank you so much for making these videos and spreading awareness and educating people. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but please know you’re also helping so many people. ❤
You did incredible having a child to manage.
The technetium makes me feel like they left me in a freezer for the first 45 minutes. Our contrast is in bottles and nauseating.
Hope they can come up with a plan quickly and it works for you.🦋🌷
They mix the contrast with flavoring and I found it helps. I had it without the flavoring once and gagged a ton.
Thank you!!
I'm so glad for you that the news is good. I sure understand the "scan anxiety syndrome". I have it myself! Lots of hugs and prayers going your way.

So many scans.I have a rare T Cell Lymphoma called Mycosis Fungoides at the aggressive phase of the disorder and I have had;CT,PET,MRI, Ultrasound and X-rays.Prior to the Lymphoma I'd only ever had X-rays which,if I remember correctly, were dental. There's a DAT Scan too which is something to do with the brain but I have only, thankfully, read about them.
You are so amazing!!! Love your attitude and your desire to move forward !!! Sounds like your results were good!! Continue to enjoy your sweet family and life. By the way I’ve lived in Anchorage for 30 years and love it here. ❤️
Thank you! We definitely miss Alaska. Such a special place :)

Thank you for sharing. So glad your scans for the mostly better. Was it okay driving, hope it didn’t increase your pain. Your daughter is adorable!!! ❤
The way there was fine but it hurt some one the way back. I was sore the next day but not longer than that!
Always so glad to see your videos pop up with updates! Is your eye watering from the AI? I have horrible dry eyes from the AI I take. I use Xiidra (Rx) twice a day and it makes a huge difference! Always thinking of you and keeping you in prayer! 🙏🏻 Stay strong! 💪🏼
Yes I think so! Thank you for sharing this, I’ll talk to my doctor about it
Sorry to hear your tumor grew but its good that everything else is shrinking. I'm sure they will figure it al out and get you stable again. Stay as positive as you can that's a lot of the battle. I have been fighting Metastatic Breast Cancer for 4 years. I have had progress 2 in those 4 years but as of right now thing are going well. Take care and enjoy tat baby girl. They grow up too fast.
I’m so glad things are going well now. Thanks for sharing
Praying 🙏
Happy for you.
I pray it comes out clean
.. Blessings ~~
I will be thinking of you, sending you much love and hugs 🥰. I get PET scans every 3 months. Just got a CAT scan we contrast 2 weeks ago, last PET showed something on my chest wall. They don’t know if it’s new or not. Dr isn’t too concerned. I have a mammogram & ultrasound 4/29. The waiting is terrible. I get Xgeva every 3 months. Love to you Samantha 🥰
Waiting is always the worst part. Hope the mammogram goes well for you!
@@SamanthaL thank you!!! I am SO glad you got good results, I welled up hearing you talk.
That's great your scans were good except for the one. And you can take care of that. Very good! ❤
Don't forget to take care of yourself.. I can't imagine the energy it takes to take care of a little one while going through treatment.
Thank you! We manage very well most days, but I’m lucky to have help if I need it
Sounds really positve Samantha.❤ Would be good if the surgeon could remove the breast lump as everything else is showing improvement. You did really great whilst being a mum but also going through everything medical that day. I think you are really amazing and should be so proud of yourself. Love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hugs snd prayers. You got this! Your cat cracks me up with how loud she or he is. I bet it wakes the baby up alot.😅
Oh she does! It’s less of a problem now but was super frustrating when our baby was younger. 🙃 They are best friends though 😊
@@SamanthaL 🤣♥️
Love that you have her sleeping with you :) I did the same with my kids and it was the BEST ❤ Miss those days!! I do have a criticism of your video, though. SHINY …. Noooo!! I love that song! LOL You are so pretty - the short hair suits you :) Hope these treatments keep working for a long time until better treatments and finally a cure for you!!
She sleeps in her room until some point in the middle of the night when she switches to our bed. I absolutely love it! I know my opinion on that song is controversial haha. Thanks for your comment :)
So happy for you and the results. So your treatment is obviously working? Your body has been through so much, yet it continues to heal. Awesome. I hope they come up with a plan to get that breast tumor out. Praying for you and your family. ❤
Thank you! It does seem that treatment is working, except for that one spot :)
Celebrating your back feeling so much better, you driving to your scans and getting the good news of improvement - yay! We do miss Gray in the truck and all the fun chatter as you drive plus him sitting in the waiting room in his favorite chair - ha! ❤️
lol he came to my oncology appointment the next day! I’ll try to get footage of him next time
I pray that your scans went well, and I there was no new cancer. This was a month ago so please give an update when you can! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊
Hoping to post again next week!
New subscriber here , from Europe. Hang in there sweet Samantha, my best wishes for your journey to be a successful and smooth one! Have a beautiful day! xoxo
Thanks for watching and for your kind words!
Bone sclerosis bc with this type of cancer…the cancer eats away at the bone versus building it (osteoclast vs osteoblastic!) cancer. So when it’s improving, the bone has a chance to build back and sclerose after the cancer had eaten away at it. Also why your back had broken so easily…but now you’re on the other side and building back! Congrats! I question just a double mastectomy at this point w so much growth but your docs know best!
Ha, “sclerose” is a silly word. Thanks for your explanation!
I too have a tempurpedic adjustable bed. It rocks. Got it after my fusion
Mine isn’t adjustable but that must’ve been so helpful after surgery!
You are amazing! You are so clear headed and so together. Even though it is not great to lose the hair on your head, you look healthy and so pretty.
A lumpectomy is not fun. I chose getting a marker instead of those spiky things for my lumpectomy. If that is necessary, I hope the tumor is removed and gone forever. Will that mean more chemo if it is removed to get the loose cells?
Your cat is adorable and I suspect it is a female. They tend to be more vocal but I could be wrong! I saw the top of your daughter's head - beautiful hair! I would bet she is as pretty as you are. I sincerely hope all this goes away. You remain in my prayers.
Thank you! Chemo is not in the plan because my current treatment is working well, but we will see what the results are from the surgery! My cat is female lol. She meows all day long, but it is most annoying at 2 am haha
What are "those spikey things"? I got a marker when I had my lumpectomy and didn't know that there were spikey things.
@@MMargaretRiley I was given an option of a marker, which I went with, or wire-guided localisation (WGL). Just the thought of that repulsed me.
@@BubbleBurster-nv1vl Oh, okay. Thank you for explaining.
God bless to you
We can all agree Shiny was a misstep on Disney’s part. Sending you all the wishes for continued strength, healing and peace.
Lol it’s never been my favorite, but I love the movie!
If I was you, with a beautiful daughter, wonderful husband and so young, I'd do exactly what you are doing. It is working too! I will continue to pray that you have a complete recovery. I honestly don't think I would have handled that as well as you continue to do at your age. You are an amazing, pretty, wonderful person!
I did check our your hormone therapy and side effects video.I have been following you for while but when that was out out there, I didn't have breast cancer. My oncologist wants to put me on Anastrozole for five years , as insurance against a re-occurrence. I had my check up, the other week and I am breast cancer free. I appreciate honest videos and you did a stellar job. Thank you very much for going to the trouble. It is very helpful.
I left a reply over at that video.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you are doing well
That cat is adorable haha❤
And she knows it! :)
Glad you are looking pretty stable.
Do you have dry eyes from the meds? Dry eyes can cause watering. It IS annoying!
Have a good week!
❤❤❤
I do! Years ago it caused my eyes to get very puffy too but it isn’t as bad this time around
I use Restasis. It took several months but I no longer have dry eyes. Chemo destroyed my natural tear production. (Yes, it does THAT, too!)
Samantha, I am so happy that your scans came out pretty good. I am praying that this new treatment will eradicate your cancer forever and you will live as long as Queen Elizabeth II. Is the mass in your malignant or is it benign? Is it in your right breast or left brerast?
Thank you so much! I had a biopsy on it back in September and it was malignant. It is in my left breast, in a similar spot as the original one
@@SamanthaL Poor you!
I'm claiming it has not. 🌻
I will pray for you, dear Samantha. The Lord Jesus heal and bless you ❤
Sending positive thoughts to you. How was your hour long drive? Can you tell me what it is about your mattress that is helpful for your back? Is it just firmness or the ability to raise and lower?asking for someone with 5 fractures in neck and back. Sleeping is the worst.
The drive on the way there was fine but I had some pain on the way back that stuck around until the next day. I do not have the raise/lower feature on our bed, but I know some people get that and love it. We have the standard tempur pedic mattress without any special bells and whistles. Medium firmness, but you can pick more soft or more firm depending on what you like. It does get softer as you break it in so go with something more firm than what you’re thinking. What I like about it is the way it is able to form to your back but also stay firm. When mattresses are too soft and don’t offer enough support I have a big problem. I think it’s worth the investment, but you should be able to try them out in store if you are interested. I have a pillow by them too that I love, but I don’t think it’s as important as the mattress
I used to do the nuclear bone scans every 6 months. You just have to write the whole day off, and bring LOTS of water. The with and without contrast MRIs that take over 2 hours are the worst. Now I just have a PET scan every 4 months until I die.
MRIs are the absolute worst!!
Love and hugs Samantha🙏🏻❤️💐🇬🇧
I hate that feeling when you get contrast. I feel like they should remind people that they will feel like they are peeing and they actually aren’t. I’ve had so many scans I’ve lost count. One of the CT techs told me she had a woman tell her that it was “exciting” when the contrast went in. That was a little TMI lol! As always, praying for you and your family. You are a great mama!
Haha they definitely should remind people! It’s so strange. I’ve had 3 so far and 2/3 times the techs told me I might feel like I’m peeing. This time the tech knew I had the scan before so I knew what to expect
Glad you had lots of positives there. How calm you appeared on scan day! Perhaps you felt differently inside.
My tech tells me every time about peeing your pants and feeling really warm and I don't feel anything. I guess I'm lucky! I do often feel really cold though.
@@cindyscharr457 they told me some people don’t feel it at all. I wonder what it is that makes us different!
@@SamanthaL Lord only knows. One time I had my hands clasped over my head and when I was done with the exam and put my arms down I noticed one of my finger nails turned black.
