- The OPUS Innovation upgrades are complete for my Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series! Let's put it straight on the dyno to see the new power figures, plenty opportunities for a sound check with the new exhaust, and then take it for a Vmax run on the Autobahn to the top speed of 205 mph (330 kmh).
After dropping off the GT Black Series at the end of the Black Series tour a few weeks ago, I am reunited with my Solarbeam yellow AMG supercar. During my absence, the team at OPUS installed a new exhaust upgrade to the car featuring HJS catalysts, which was developed in-house by the German company.
The exhaust changes are accompanied by a Stage 1 ECU upgrade to provide an additional boost in performance. The result is a mind-blowing hike from the stock 775 hp to 847 hp, which is close to 10% more performance on a mild tune. Further performance upgrades will be available in the future with OPUS planning a 1000+ hp version of the GT Black Series for anyone interested.
After listening to the system on the dyno and discussing the final results together with Lukas Domogalla, the owner of OPUS, it is time to take the GT BS for a short spin on local roads near the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Up on return at OPUS's workshop, we install a blow-off valve kit for more audible drama from underneath the bonnet.
The final part of the day consists of the ultimate test hitting Vmax and seeing how the upgrades have improved the performance of the GT Black Series. The results are astonishing and the mid-range performance absolutely blows my mind. 205mph (330 kmh) is the hard limiter, but it is capable of achieving so much more. Vmax limiter removal next?

As there were some questions on that matter: What you might think / what you hear being a slipping clutch when changing gears at higher speeds, is actually not the case here. While, 1st of all, the engine- and transmission-control units are still running a forced adaption during the next few hundred kms after the reflash, the most important thing is, that the engine torque and power are limited by a not fully opened throttle body, additionally limiting the maximum boost in the intake and causing a bit of an "overboost" building up before the throttle, making the gear changes at higher speeds sometimes a bit more sluggy during the learning process than you might expect. It has nothing to do with the tune. The torque reduction / shift strategy combined with the boost control also through the throttle body limitation is just completely different on this model than on any other AMG GT / GT S / GT R... Additionally, AMG is already working on refining the base-software and so are we, also in order to further improve the shifting "quality". @Opus Innovation, would you have the ability to utilize Xentry to run the transmission through adaptation right away post TCU tune?
@@dlefty6717 We are using other tools to tune than Xentry, understandably ... and the adaptation is forced to be completed during driving.

Hey Tim, congrats on the upgrades. One thing that concerns me when you hit the autobahn is what sounds like clutch slipping going from 5-6 and 6-7. @21:07 You can hear the rev jump and the shift indicator come on for a brief second. This is somewhat typical when the ECU gets re-mapped and the TCU doesn't. At this type of power level, additional pressure is required on the clutch packs to ensure the power holds from gear to gear. I am quite surprised OPUS never took care of that. Please let me know if you notice that also. Cheers.

I heard the same thing. Sure sounds like they didn't finish the work.
It could have also been a slight road imperfection. The road looks bumpy and the suspensions look stiff. Even Tim keeps jumping in the car. Given the speed he was doing, that might very well be the reason why the engine revved that way. Imo.
I heard it too, but thought it may be the cold cup2’s and so much torque. That and the brief look on Tims face as it looked like he was trying to fight for traction.
I'm not even sure if we should call the exhaust an upgrade or a repair lol

I guess you can't get a deep V8 rumble in this thing unlike the AMG GTR. This AMG GT BS has a flat plane krank twin turbo V8.

Yes! That is exactly how the GT Black Series should've sounded from factory it sounds so good now and the way it performs now with all this new power is simply mind blowing, Tim you have created a monster.
To be honest, it is still don’t deserve the black series badge compared to SLS BS. Black Series has to be sounds like american muscle car, not speaker based turbo sound. Shame on Mercedes and eu rules.

@@NotEnoughForTheWorld i can't disagree with you this car isn't in the same league as the SLS Black and SL65 Black especially in terms of sound those cars sound thunderous even the SLK but this just sounds straight up boring so at least Tim made it louder not SLS loud but still pretty loud.

First time I’ve actually seen shmee somewhat speechless and take a back by the performance of a car, shows just how insane the GTBS really is.
Vmax looks effortless , You don't hear the engin straining, the car looks rock solid on the road. and frankly you don't look strained yourself at those speeds, alert and concentrated yes, but scared? no. I think you have a winner here :)
Lukas looks like a friendly and über-cool dude and I hope the news is that the AMG One is coming to the Shmuseum

812 GTO. He wants a V12 Ferrari back in the garage and he just bought an SF90, i'd guess to get an allocation for the GTO. That's my guess anyway.

Been following since 2013 and I remember when you announce the 12c thinking it will never be beaten. Guess that was a bit stupid thinking you now own like 8 super cars haha! I have been calling it for well over 12 months, and i am more sure by the day that Tim has a Gemera inbound.

Tim, what a car, I am so jealous of the looks and colour, that said, I do believe my F-type R has the edge on the exhaust sound, nothing sounds like an F-type R with the values open.
on the autobahn, thats the most like surprised but confused I've seen Tim. I laughed a decent amount at his nonchalant reaction to going 330.
I think the craziest thing for me has been growing up through the 90's and watching things like Wangan Midnight and Option video knowing just how hard you had to push to get to 200mph and seeing cars from the show room floor be comfortable and break 200mph. That's insane.
The stuff back then was hand built by the crews themselves. That was a different category then this altogether. Buying a car and then stepping on it takes little skill
I thought Wangan Midnight was an anime lol pretty sure it's in my anime list I made with things to watch a long time ago but not got round to it. Or maybe I remember a ps3 game release of it

With the SF90 Stradale having 1000 horses i expect possibly one of Tim's most expensive cars to be coming. Maybe 1100-1200 horses i think possibly more.. Either way i expect something monstrous in terms of power and spec. This man does own a pink lambo after all

There is nothing wrong with the Black Series exhaust sound, in fact it sounds great, but that Pro should be illegal, that sound is insane it wets pants all around it, I am glad I had my headphones on for the full spectrum of sound.
