I'm a very hefty fellow at a semi-solid 330lbs I just purchased a 92 Honda nighthawk 750 and was wandering if I bought too much bike for a beginner??? Please poppa yam I need advice
@@A1i3N337 Yeah, I just bought a 2017 FZ-07 with only 6k miles used at a dealership for 7k with tax and everything included. I put 4k downpayment in cash and pay 78$ a month for the next 3 years to build my credit up until I drop the rest and pay it off completely very affordable, not a headache.
@@A1i3N337 i put down zero down payment on my mt 07 and its only 120 a month. insurance is 180 a year for full coverage. no reason most people cant afford one.
I've owned an MT-07 for 2 years and ~13k miles, my present bike is an MT-09 SP with 12k miles. It's hard to choose which is better to be honest. MT-07: value for money, more balanced bike (more weight on front wheel), better riding position. Inspires confidence and makes you smile every time you ride it. Minuses: finish quality like paint, rust, the suspension (upgraded to Ohlins), brakes a little weak, power drops pretty early in the revs. MT-09 SP: better engine, brakes, suspension, no frame flex. Huge adrenaline rush. Minuses: poor weight distribution (too much on back) - fixable with shock preload and taller rear tire, weird position - you can't easily hold on to the bike when going hard because pegs are too forward and seat tank don't offer much support, even after ECU flash throttle still quite snatchy which is a problem mainly on bad roads, does not inspire confidence, quite the contrary, you have to focus very seriously on controlling it. I guess it depends on what you want. Fun - MT-07. Challenge - MT-09. I love them both but MT-09 is harder to recommend, no doubt about it.
@@rileyhughes5613 yes , é so trocar as pastilhas , procura aqui por upgrad travoes mt 07 e 09 ! chang the pads , the diference is sooo big !! ainda assim a mt 07 trava , bem, mas com esse upgrad fica melhor ! algo q talvez venha a fazer na minha mt 07
off the showroom floor for 8k. Idk where the video got 5k. I mean, if you want a warranty its 1.5k minimum dealer fees is another 500 dollars. If you pay cash another 500 dollars on top. If you lease your interest on the bike will be around 1k anyways. PLUS full coverage insurance if you lease which with smart insurance is 100 dollars a month. With large insurances its like 500 a month. Plus registration fee. Please tell me how that adds up to 5k. Literally bought a new one in january in Tucson Az.
I'm usually on the bang for buck wagon, but I still like the XSR900 better: ● Almost every reviewer talks about XSR700's front end feeling unstable at high speeds and the XSR900 fixing that. That alone is a dealbreaker for me. ● I'd rather get the bike with more power out of the box already than spending a small fortune on mods. ● Paralel twins are more "pedestrian" than inline 3s. ● The backlighting on the XSR900's speedo transforms an average looking thing into something cool. ● The small visual tweaks made to the XSR900 make it look better to my eyes. ● I'm not building a scrambler. ● The riding position and the gearing is street oriented on the XSR900 too, it's not a sportbike, with the plus it can be almost as fast as a 600RR if you really want to push it. I see no problem there. ● You can use a low power driving mode on the XSR900 if you feel overwhelmed, so it's not totally noob unfriendly and you have more room to grow into it. Oh well, that's just me after researching these bikes a lot. Yamaha did a lovely thing.
I feel like the instability comes from the wind and riding position, tucking in (lol tucked into the windshieldless tank) seems to help a lot to stabilize the bike. I can maintain 235kmh confidently, and with a good roads 254kmh feels alright, assuming it's not a windy day.
I'm 50, have been riding for over 35 years, and I just picked up a used FZ-07 as a project. It's a wonderful bike no matter what your skill level. If you slap a good shock on it and re-work the front suspension, you'll be blown away how it can blast the canyons. In the right hands, it will go as fast or faster than the people who spent two to three times as much on their rides. The best thing Yamaha could do, in my opinion, is offer an SP model with fully-adjustable suspension from the factory.
@@yammienoob yammie just stop dude. There is alot of mt09 owners. No need to keep bringing it up. Don't make a group of riders mad at ya man regardless if you are correct or not. Let us mt09 boys enjoy it, and you can keep your opinion neutral or to yourself. I feel your too big of an influence on motorcycles to single out a group of riders. Especially being a more popular platform
@@yammienoobI know man, I'm just playfully jabbing at ya. All bikes are awesome. I had the time of my life getting my endorsement while taking the MSF course on a 125cc bike. I feelz ya bro.
I went XSR900 to MT07. Kept the XSR900 for about 8 months before moving it on. Have now had the MT07 for 15 months with no plans of selling it. It wasn't about money for me at all, I have enough to own either bike. But as a daily commuter the MT07 sounds better, is lighter, is smaller and just overall a whole lot more fun to get on and boogie. With upgraded suspension it's now the best bike I've ever owned (out of 30+ other bikes).
@@barrydinh I managed to find a used Ohlins for the rear, just the base version with preload and rebound damping. That made a huge difference to both control and comfort. Then I went with Cogent DDC emulators in the forks which sorted them out well enough to match the performance of the rear. You could go full blown cartridges in the forks and a shock with hi/low compression and rebound adjustment but for a commuter / daily rider that can be overkill. If you're hitting the twistied hard every weekend then that might be the way to go.
From someone who has been riding for over 28 years. I agree 100% about the 650cc class bikes. I have had fast bikes of my own and rode many friends bikes that are fast. I still come back to that class bike. There is a reason I sold my Z900 to get a Vitpilen 701 and it wasn't just the styling.
@@Vlamyncksken Not sure what you mean. I like the styling better, the feel of the 3 cylinder. I think you missed the joke, everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it.
MT07 for life boy! Got my 20 plate MT07 two months ago and this shit is fire. Was debating between this and an MT09 but then decided to keep the MT07 and purchase an R6. My mrs can ride my MT07 restricted once she passes her test until she is confident and I've got my sports bike. win win
@@stefanpetrov8 I started on the MT09 (1st gen), was a passenger on other bikes quite often, including a turbo hayabusa actually, and I do think it is possible to start on the MT09, but I also see how it would be a stupid decision for a lot of people. It has quite a lot of power and and the wrong hands, this could be literally fatal.
yeah I have MT 07 2019 and I think Yammie is capping hard, the new MT09 is superior in every aspect, brakes, suspension, features( the MT 07 is a bear bones bike)
I'm 5'10", 150 lbs and ride an MT03. I rented an MT07 for two days to ride in the mountains of Chiang Mai. I had two problems. In tight switch backs the rear kept slipping, very creepy, never happens on the 03. I was very careful with the throttle but to get up the mountain it needed throttle! Next, the ride was ruffer than the 03. I've learned some about the suspension issues and maybe the rear spring was cranked all the way up? Otherwise I loved it. I sat on an XSR700 and it didn't feel comfortable to me. Also, I don't think the XSR is suitable for a rear rack and small windscreen. I learned to ride in Thailand doing over 75,000K now and dig your channel. By the way, I can't imagine learning to ride on anything over 150cc, especially here in Asia.
As a second bike for around town? Sure. First “big” bike after a 300 class? Sure. As the primary bike for a regular rider, probably not. The MT-09 is notably smoother on the highway, and has more juice is you track day. And if you’re looking for a do anything motorcycle and not a hooligan, the MT-09 Tracer is fantastic. It takes some bar effort, but I dragged pegs a ton in the twisties on a Tracer 900 I rented.
The new MT-09’s have far nicer throttling. A mode is still a touch twitchy (way better than before), but the other modes smooth out a lot. It’s also not a liter bike. I prefer my 390 over my S1000RR in town since you can stretch it’s legs and run through the gears at reasonable speeds. The MT-09 isn’t like a liter bike though, you can still stretch it out and have fun without criminal speeding.
I've got a V-Strom 650 as my only vehicle and put on significantly more mileage than most other motorcyclists. 33000 miles last year alone. 650 class bikes are pretty much the perfect choice. If it's too slow for you, you're not riding it right Personally not a fan of the Tracer 900/MT09 but that's largely ergonomics and suspension. Not that I'm a fan of the MT09 engine anyway, I find it boring
Could explain how come its boring? Tracer, Mt09 and xsr are fresher than traditional vstrom Has More than enough hp + Its torquey + aftermarket exhaust = smiles & fun
@@SuzukiC41 bro what, stock the mt09 will outrun an r1 to 220 kph, with an ecu flash it will keep pulling to 250 plus. Plus with an akra carbon full system it screams. It is literally such a good engine you imbecile. Mt07 is for beginners. Bloody V storm rider, last v storm rider I talked to said it was his third v storm. "if its too slow you aren't riding right" nah bro its just too slow
Had a ‘17 FZ-07, decided I was looking for more room, power, refinement. I went for the Tracer 900, and I couldn’t be happier. Regarding the fueling, CP3 bikes have gotten way better from the factory. B mode = FZ-07 power delivery to me, in case anyone is concerned about the step up being too much. I spend 90% of my time in STD mode, the rest in A mode.
I'm considering upgrading to the tracer too. I just keep hearing about the death throttle of the MT-09 platform and how the bike scares the crap out of everyone. Hows the throttle response?
Greg Reil I heard a lot about that when I went to test ride the Tracer. I started the test ride in B mode, and it was so smooth I was in STD mode within 30 seconds. Tried A mode that ride too, but A takes a little working into. STD is still pretty smooth on day 1. I think all the scary throttle stories are from the older FZ-09s before they remapped and re-sprung them in ‘18 I believe.
Its refreshing to hear this. Honestly after riding both the 09 was a 1 trick pony for me whereas i had a nonstop smile on the 07. It has plenty of power, turns better, and doesnt look bloated
My go to these days is a FJR1300. Bought it four years ago but only bonding with it now. Maybe I'm growing older. Riding slower these days. Loving the big bike feel.
@@hmz01_ Just get a 2018 leftover. They are under $5k brand new ... you cannot beat that even on a used deal unless you are getting one in mint condition with low miles and some mods for like $4k for it to be worth it
Anyone else wanna light up with Spite and Yam after that intro? I remember the vlog where Yammie was stuck behind a truck smoking pot and he laughed like a man who knows. I might be wrong, but a boy can dream.
Hey Yam. Couldn't agree more. Got a great deal on my first Tracer 700 after completing my A2 training here in France. Such a flexible bike. Can use it every day as a commuter but also did my first road trip from Lyon to Antibes on the Route de Napoléon!! Perfect.
Ryan Breton im seriously considering the z900 as my next bike. Im not a track person so i was wondering if its perfecto for just road duty? I know it has a lot of horse, like way more than the 700 hes mentioning. Is that an annoyance to control? or like too twitchy? I want to go to a dealer after all this COVID is over.
I love my FZ-07. What an awesome bike! I bought mine with 8000+ miles on for $4700. It's a very affordable; fuel-efficient; hooligan; torque-monster. However, if you get a FZ-07, it's a must to get rid of that wimpy stock exhaust. I installed a Two Brothers S1R full exhaust system on mine. Boy oh boy, what a difference it made. I even removed the dB killer, so that my neighbors would love me more. Lol 😂😂😂 However, I must admit that I also have a huge crush on the MT-09.
I’m 55y. Owned 8/9 bikes. Many miles. Full of opinions. I bought the 900 after trying both at a local Yamaha dealer. I would say that the 700 has more than enough usable power and poise, especially for a buyer of lesser experience. Although I’m an older guy, I still enjoy riding aggressively sometimes, and I didn’t think the 700 was lacking in any way, I would be happy to own one. Most importantly, it was what I’d expected. When I tried the 900 I was truly amazed. The engine is fantastic. The acceleration was strong and linear for as much as I wanted. It was a lot more motorcycle than I’d expected, so I bought one. Bat Black, with bar-ends and added a QS , blah, blah. I’ve ridden many quick bikes, and the XSR900 was up there. Handles well enough, and I swear I can hear sparks sometimes. Very happy with it after several thousand. If you’re a new rider, I would suggest that the 900 is a LOT faster than you think it is.
Great to hear from an experienced rider. Have my 07 since 2015, my first bike (since my yamaha pw50 when I was 10 ;) and indeed thought about moving to an 09. now after 8yrs. I only have 10K riding exper. Under the belt, having seen this vid I’ll hold on to it a little longer 👍🏻
As a mt-09 owner, I'll chime in here. I bought an mt-09 as my 2nd bike.. after putting only 500 miles on a cruiser (figured out REAL fast I'm not a cruiser person). The throttle is twitchy, but as a new rider, that just meant I needed to learn throttle control. Now, to me, it feels right, cause thats what I started with. it's like starting to drive with a standard. It's also taught me respect for the power of the bike. It CAN get fast quick, so I have to respect the bike potential vs my ability. It's a fantastic bike that I can't see a need to upgrade from for a very long time. I did pick it up for a steal, and had i paid the 9k list, maybe I would have looked harder at the 07, but, rather own... gimme the 09 every day. best of both worlds, all the power and fun of the MT series with still decent gas mileage (comparing it to the mt-10).
Biggest issue with the smaller displacement bikes is the crap suspension, brakes, chassis etc. The engines are amazing though. But it's the complete package that lets em down. I guess the market for a more premium 650 class bike is not there.
A smaller engine doesn't really cut the cost of the bike that much. A 1000cc bike with a 500cc engine would be almost the same price and knowone would buy it. Probably would not be much lighter either.
Sv650 is amazing. Bought a 2005 model with 35000miles to replace a bandit 1200. The sv is fun fun fun and power wise more than you will ever need on streets or highways
@@Fee.1 sv is suzuki not yamaha. Sv is a true v-twin engine while mt07 is a parallel twin with transverse crankcase. Power wise very similar both bikes. Sv heavier but more balanced and probably slightly better suspension. Both very good bikes for the money
@@farmoboy83 There's no question that the SV has better suspension, the MT07 suspension (as far as I'm concerned) should be a mandatory upgrade. The SV suspension isn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination but it's good enough. The MT07 suspension is just outright dangerous Ridden the gen 3 SV650 a few times, the 2019 MT07 2-3 times, put 29000 miles on a Gladius, currently own a V-Strom 650. Out of everything I've gotten a chance to ride, the MT07 is easily in my top 3 for worst suspension
I get you , i prefer as well to have a ninja 400 then a 900cc , 400-600cc bikes are enough for you to do highway speeds and to be a lil hooligan on them sometimes , you can actually use those machines , but ofc if you plan on doing track then yea get a bigger cc bike
2019 MT-07 with Akrapovic full carbon exhaust, power commander v, stage 2 air box lid and DNA air filter! The mods have added 15 more hp with a new top speed of 140 mph vs the 127 mph stock!
my mt 07 is fully stocked , with only one exhaust full roaditalia , which improved the torque , mainly without db killer , the bike always had good max speed , and now it has max , up to this moment , of 230 km / h panel , bikes even the same ones , there will always be a better one , and this has a lot to do with running the engine while new , at this moment my 07 is 1 year old and almost 8000 kms , I believe that being well prepared can have a gain , but not I think it's easy to get 15hp out of this engine, unless you work the head, among other mechanical improvements, it's a spectacular bike, but after some use you already feel the lack of more power, because the bike becomes addicting. and I am of the opinion , that it is better to change for the mt 09 than to spend 2000 euros in several changes in the 07 , however I do not criticize who does it , and stay really , brutal ,.. and with akrapovic ,.. even better !
The DNA Stage 2 air box lid adds a ton of noise (induction roar and valve clatter). Not everyone wants as much noise as possible for a small horsepower gain. I pulled mine off and put it and the DNA air filter up for sale at half price - no one wants it.
I bought a new Z1000 Kawasaki in 2003 and loved it; still have it with > 130,000 on it, runs great, but now @ age 62 with orthopedic issues in my knees I needed a lighter bike.Three years ago I bought a 2017 FZ07 and LOVE it. However, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE to get the ECU reflashed properly. It makes a huge difference in throttle smoothness and a bit more power. It also greatly tames the engine breaking effect, something I hate from a 40+ year history of riding 2-stroke street bikes. It comes the closest in fun factor to my beloved vintage 2-strokes (RD400 and RZ350). Even I could still physically handle the Z or a larger, heavier bike I will stick with this fun bike.
I don’t get why the beef agains MT-09. I’ve commented before that you owned both 09 and 07 1st gen, you should be more insightful and test ride the 2nd Gens of both models and you will understand why the MT-09 is the superior bike in every aspect. I know cause I owned a 2019 MT-07 and traded for a 2019 MT-09... when that happens, then you can make a statement like that.
If you want a lighter bike with cheaper running costs the 07 is superior. Also not everyone want lots of cylinders and 115hp. The 09 is focused on speed the 07 is focused on commuting and low end torque + good for beginners.
Yammie makes a point of calling out the throttle of the first gen FZ09 compared to the second gen XSR-700. They took huge strides in taming the throttle when they released the first-gen XSR-900 compared to the original FZ09/MT-09 - never mind a second generation. Not comparing equivalent bikes, using unrealistic prices (5K for a brand new MT-07?)...while I believe Yammie does honestly believe the 7 is the better bike...he's had to use some questionable arguments to try back it up. This post smacks of trying to generate outrage clicks.
Had an XSR700 from new, put 13000kms on it, traded it in for a new MT-09 SP which I'm coming up on 15000 kms . I loved the XSR, but the 09 is better in every way. Like what you said, ride the newer 09's
Chris Redfield Agree to disagree... I’ve owned both for commuting (2nd gen) and the 09 is way better at just a fraction of the cost more in terms of mpg... plus, the better ergonomics and suspension makes the ride even more enjoyable
Gotta love papa yams business plan. 2 years ago, papa would hesitantly tell you how he wrecked two daytonas and rode an fz 09 and an R3 and nothing much more. Now he buys different kinds of motors and experiences them all and then gives them away to get new bikes, expanding his library. And slyly behind the scene he stretches his baby legs on trails on the ducati so that he doesn't embarrass himself when he buys an off road bike to give away. Cool stuff
So yeah, if you're owning 3-6 bikes and they're all powerful, a little 700 is a nice around town bike. But if you don't have a busa and a race bike in the garage, the 900 provides the power you crave (if you're experienced enough to handle it). I definitely agree the 700 is a better starter bike than a 900. If you're a noob, get the 700 and ride it. After a few years you can upgrade and let your girl ride the 700 if she is a beginner.
As an FZ-07 owner, I'm more than satisfied with it as my first motorcycle. It's served me for 3 years and riding it feels like shaking hands with an old friend. I am looking to upgrade; I'm trying to decide between the MT-09 and the MT-10. Maybe you can consider giving your opinion on the two. I just feel like the MT-09 and the MT-07 are two incompletely different motorcycles with almost no similarities.
I think the mt-10 should have been a triple with the same size pistons as the mt-07. The mt-07 has more torque than the 09 really. Would have seemed a lot like a speed triple mind
Fun story here: i was planning on buying an MT 07 2018 as my first bike I don’t many biker friends but i have watched too many videos, comparisons and articles. And last thing visiting motorcycle branches in my area for testing. And so decided to choose the MT07. Took me a while to complete my training and get my license and everything, but when went to the only Yamaha branch in my area they didn’t have the MT07 and i had to wait around 4 months until they get one but the owner told me that I’m lucky because there’s a big sale coming after 2 weeks from that time and they will offer the MT09 2018 for exactly the same price as the MT07 so guess what I’m now enjoying riding my MT09 and really love it :)
The only reason you stand out Yammie is most people who post the supposed facts and experiences of a product, do so for clicks and not for what is truly reality of the product. I finally bought my bike and some issues were just bullshit. This is an obvious notion, but when you're spending money, you're really trying to be as precise in your understanding of a product and RUclips is a waste of time in a lot of ways, but your channel does a better job. Don't exaggerate or complain about a spec or feature just for clicks. It ruins the brand. In pre-production for a documentary, inspiring people to ride! Thanks again.
As an older rider, I favor consistency of controls. Hate fly by wire and modes. If I needed more power, twist more! Most problems I have had over the years have been electric. Give me a simpler bike to toss around.
Why I still prefer my FZ-09 over my SV650 (which I still own also...). There's something to be said about being on a bike that tries to kill you ever time you ride it. At any moment if you think you've got a handle on it, you wrench the throttle and giggle like a school girl as you nearly die coming into a corner that arrived about 50 feet sooner than you expected, and plow it into the corner. At the end of a day of riding like this, you hop of the bike and feel like you did something that day.
I bought a 2019 mt-07 in January and it's my third motorcycle. I had a kawa 300, a 2009 Yama r6, and now this. The bike feels superb, honestly if I started on this bike that would of been an awesome decision. It's easy to handle feels great and has good power. HOWEVER, factory exhaust gave me depression. Its way too quiet and bulky and ugly. Second, the throttle is weird, the r6 responds way better. Third, you will get wrecked by v8s if you start in 3rd gear unless you get a tuner for 400 dollars (100% recommend). It removes the stupid rev limiter at 8000rpms in 6th and gives you the ability to adjust fuel mixture in order to make sure your mods (Like the exhaust) are not making your bike run lean. For the rest, its a great cruiser and at the same time its super freaking fun.
I own a 2014 FZ09 and I've ridden the 2020 MT07. The 07 felt kinda gutless in comparison (duh). I think if you can get used to / harness the 09's power (and accept the unforgiving flaws that the 09 comes with lol), there's really no comparison. Obviously the smaller bike is cheaper. If you compare the price of the 09 to others in the same class/size, it's typically much much cheaper. None of that is to say that the 07 isn't amazing and fun. Just that my view of it was tainted by the fact that I rode an FZ09 long before ever trying the MT07. I do agree that the cheaper price makes it a great platform for all kinds of cool mods though.
Shame you don't get the Tracer 700 in the US. I just got one expecting a nice but dull commuter bike but its not that at all. Its great fun, fast enough, lively motor, really comfortable and great value.
Scoffs in Tracer 900. Also, you assume I like to tinker with my motorcycles. I don't. I like bikes that have everything right out of the box with minimal tinkering. I get bikes to ride, not to muck about with in my garage. I can appreciate what tinkerers like about such bikes though. I'm just not a tinkerer.
Gofr5 the Tracer 900 GT might be my absolute favorite “do anything” bike. The value is immense, it can tour, it wheelies, it’ll let you drag pegs and get a knee down. It’s got cruise control, heated grips, easy to use luggage. Hell, it even track days fairly well if you swap the tires. It’s not the best in any category, but it ticks a TON of boxes.
Got my XSR700 last year. Coming up on 2k miles already. I don’t even know why I have a car anymore. It’s my first bike ever, and it’s been the smoothest transition to riding I could’ve ever asked for. Highly highly highly recommend this bike 🤙
Some bikes still have snatchy throttles. Cars are already euro 6 with particulate catchers limits exhaust noise to 74 decibels. Bikes just entered Euro 5 with snatchy throttles.
No need for debate guys. What I took from Yammie is that regarding the MT-07/XSR 700 is the bike is more economic, more friendly for either beginner or even seasoned experience, and a quite versatile on the street with managable power. And the MT-09 / XSR 900 is although quite more pricey, is better in performance, it's faster, more HP, totally out of this world performance motorcycle. But the immense size of power may not be the best options for the beginners nor the price is good for middle class individual who needs reliable and more affordable commuter bike. So yeah, both motorcycle type has it's plus and minus. Just get whatever you want with your goddamn cash, people.
Yammie, my man, my main dude, my honorable hombre, you gotta try out the new MT-09. I’ve owned a 16 fz09 and now my 18 mt09 and the bike has become way more refined. The modes really still don’t change much but there is a difference between A mode and B mode
Good Vid, Yam,..... I would have expected Wayyy more riders on the road, than just scooter due and the couple riding 2-up . Is it because of lock-down in Austin ?? Ciao
The biggest issue is insurance. I received quotes for a 2008 cbr600rr, 2015 Triumph Street Triple R and a 2016 FZ-07. My quotes for full coverage were $1400/yr for the CBR, $1200 for the street triple and $3000!!!!!!! For the FZ-07. Like holy TITS. I wanted an Fz-07 but I’ll be paying for the bike in 2 years with rates like that.
It’s so frustrating that modern FI bikes still struggle with throttle snatch. I’m really enjoying the smooth fueling down low of my carb Honda dirtbikes.
Owning an fz07, those are good points. "Better" is very subjective. Depends on what you want in a bike. Sub 700cc it's a fun bike, you can toss it around like a blowup doll. Stock handlebars are terrible, and so is the fz07 seat. I think they resolved the seat though.
I have an MT07 great bike. The only point to improve for me is the suspension but only noticeable in high speeds. You use what exhaust on this video? And this city you ride is Austin Texas?
I'm 5'10½ & age 28, just sold me 1988 CBR250R MC19 ages ago, looking at stepping up to a MT-07 HO or MT-09 or MT-09 SP for my 2nd bike as I like more power/torque. Enjoy riding on highways/towns/commuting/riding dailys. Any ideas anyone?
I had the first FZ09 in my area kept it for about 3 years traded in for a Super Tenere and missed the naked sport bike ,bought an MT07 and like it much better than the 09 !
Is the 2020 Ninja 650 a goof beginners bike? I did some research, but is there anything more powerful for A2 class for the same price? What I really like regarding optics are Kawasaki's green, the mirrors and the not side-mounted blinkers
I really wanted to test ride the xsr700 today. But when this virus hit, Yamaha canceled all the test ride trucks going to the dealers. So that did not happen today. I owned the FZ-09 and loved it. I test ride the MT-07 a year ago and it felt in stable to me. It was so light, the front end felt sketchy and I had no confidence in it. It just felt like I was going to wash the front wheel out in the corners. I wanted to see if maybe the XSR was better. May be just the demo bike I was on, but that is all I have to go on. For me personally I just had no confidence in it and my FZ-09 just felt better. But I do want to test an XSR because I do want one. If I can feel comfortable
How does the 689cc handle touring tho? I'm looking for a naked bike for a weekend cruiser that I can also take out on a cross country tour once a summer. So far I was thinking of going with the mt09
Yam can you come negotiate for me? 😂 Every dealer in the Denver area is quoting $8,400 for a 2019 XSR700. Also, come ride in Colorado! You need to rip up Pikes Peak, that would make such an epic video!
The xsr700 seems to be a lot more than the mt-07 not sure it's worth the extra when it's really just the same bike. And the tracer 700 is basically £8k now in the UK

There is an option called "bank credit"
These bikes are pretty cheap to finance if you can put down a large down payment.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the brakes on the MT-07. Is it the feel or the stopping power? Do you think a quick pad upgrade would help?
@@rileyhughes5613 yes , é so trocar as pastilhas , procura aqui por upgrad travoes mt 07 e 09 ! chang the pads , the diference is sooo big !! ainda assim a mt 07 trava , bem, mas com esse upgrad fica melhor ! algo q talvez venha a fazer na minha mt 07

off the showroom floor for $5k? yeah that's wrong
Yeah give me an address of that dealership and a time machine!
LOL maybe 7250
off the showroom floor for 8k.
Maybe MT-03 for $5,000.

Who knows
I just bought a used 2015 FZ-07 with 2300 miles for my first bike. And its amazing!! Thanks for the awesome vidoes!

I'm usually on the bang for buck wagon, but I still like the XSR900 better:
● Almost every reviewer talks about XSR700's front end feeling unstable at high speeds and the XSR900 fixing that.
Yamaha did a lovely thing.
no group my XSR900 is not stable at high speed it’s one of my biggest complaint
@@CarbonR6 Yeah, people comment it getting scary the fastest you go, but it's still better than the 700 at that, they say.
Congrats for the bike!
I feel like the instability comes from the wind and riding position, tucking in (lol tucked into the windshieldless tank) seems to help a lot to stabilize the bike. I can maintain 235kmh confidently, and with a good roads 254kmh feels alright, assuming it's not a windy day.
People saying the Mt09 / XSR900 is unstable at high speed are probably the dumbest riders on the face of the planet. What do expect on naked bike?
@no group So you haven't ridden any of those?
I'm 50, have been riding for over 35 years, and I just picked up a used FZ-07 as a project. It's a wonderful bike no matter what your skill level.
If you slap a good shock on it and re-work the front suspension, you'll be blown away how it can blast the canyons. In the right hands, it will go as fast or faster than the people who spent two to three times as much on their rides. The best thing Yamaha could do, in my opinion, is offer an SP model with fully-adjustable suspension from the factory.

Can you share the experience with suspension upgrade? Thanks.

The forks need 15w oil and shorter spacers and the suspension needs an ohlins
If it's too slow for you, you're not riding it right

Potato Cube, you should pull the forks and do the spacer/heavy oil fix as Dave Moss prescribes.

I’m 55y. Owned 8/9 bikes. Many miles. Full of opinions.
I bought the 900 after trying both at a local Yamaha dealer.
I would say that the 700 has more than enough usable power and poise, especially for a buyer of lesser experience.
Although I’m an older guy, I still enjoy riding aggressively sometimes, and I didn’t think the 700 was lacking in any way,
I would be happy to own one.

That's all fine, but I really wanted an upside down fork, because it just looks so much nicer. So, yeah, now I got an XSR 900.

my mt 07 is fully stocked , with only one exhaust full roaditalia , which improved the torque , mainly without db killer , the bike always had good max speed , and now it has max , up to this moment , of 230 km / h panel , bikes even the same ones , there will always be a better one , and this has a lot to do with running the engine while new , at this moment my 07 is 1 year old and almost 8000 kms , I believe that being well prepared can have a gain , but not I think it's easy to get 15hp out of this engine, unless you work the head, among other mechanical improvements, it's a spectacular bike, but after some use you already feel the lack of more power, because the bike becomes addicting. and I am of the opinion , that it is better to change for the mt 09 than to spend 2000 euros in several changes in the 07 , however I do not criticize who does it , and stay really , brutal ,.. and with akrapovic ,.. even better !
The DNA Stage 2 air box lid adds a ton of noise (induction roar and valve clatter). Not everyone wants as much noise as possible for a small horsepower gain. I pulled mine off and put it and the DNA air filter up for sale at half price - no one wants it.

Oh, Yamz. It's the weekend and there's a quarantine. We watchin' alllll the videos.
Agree the Mt09 is way superior... theirs no way I would go back to the mt07 after owning my mt09...
Cool stuff
Man 5 grand is the price of 2019 R3 in India.. sadly its discontinued fir emission norms 😭😭
Rohan Kumar Badaik He’s wrong, you can’t buy a new XSR-700 for $5000. Maybe a used one with 15,000 miles and a few scratches.
Every bike is costly except the KTM
FJ-09
@@drewmorg. good suggestion, not my style
I think the mt-10 should have been a triple with the same size pistons as the mt-07. The mt-07 has more torque than the 09 really. Would have seemed a lot like a speed triple mind
Chris Redfield Thanks for your contribution to Raccoon City 🌃
Having owned an 07, the biggest issue is the rusty swing arm.
Be prepared to maintain it a lot, or prepared to swap it out
As an older rider, I favor consistency of controls.
I love how insane my MT 09 is, it is a real animal. Super fun, twisting that throttle is satisfying
I like the sound of 270 Parallel twins than inline threes.
A highly recommended mod for the MT07 is the R6 throttle tube swap. It fixes the throttle and makes the bike way more fun...
If you upgrade the suspension, brakes, levers and mirrors you have a really good handling fun bike. This is coming from a previous mt 07 owner!
The MT-09 has a lot more upright sitting position then the 07. That makes me more interested in the 09.
I didn't know that. Is that true for the 2021/22 models?
EchoConstellation totally agree with you. Tracer 900s are fantastic bikes!
Between the Tracer 900 and the Tracer 700. Would it be the same 700 pick taking its use in equation?
Never had a 07, but the 09 is amazing. That torque is juste something else.
11:32 Street triple parked in the garage. Rides a ninja 250 on the very day commute... I totally agree with your sentiment.
In Canada, the list price of an MT07 is $1000 cheaper than an XSR700. Whats the difference between these two bikes?
Got my XSR700 last year. Coming up on 2k miles already. I don’t even know why I have a car anymore. It’s my first bike ever, and it’s been the smoothest transition to riding I could’ve ever asked for. Highly highly highly recommend this bike 🤙
Showroom floor for $5000 is that in euros? MT07 debut price was $6990 years ago.
you are truly the master of marketing with that subscription and entry thing...
And they improved the gasresponse after the first generation. I can tell from experience it has gotten way better.
Also suspension is way better and I like the led lights and all that
Did you see the turn signals after he put the front wheel down in the beginning.
They don't struggle with it, it's for emissions purposes.
@@tricd0444 Exactly
Here in Australia the mt07 is consistently pretty much the exact same price as the mt09 (both used)
Sean Hatton in Aus, the 09 is a much better value option. Totally agree
Owning an fz07, those are good points. "Better" is very subjective. Depends on what you want in a bike. Sub 700cc it's a fun bike, you can toss it around like a blowup doll. Stock handlebars are terrible, and so is the fz07 seat. I think they resolved the seat though.
Its a free giveaway, just 1 dollar per entry? Hmmmm🧐
Yammie's the Linus of motorcycles.😂
Ridge wallets ad even when they aren't a sponsor of this video xD
I tried both on demo days and while the 09 was nothing but fun I realized my licence would not last long. Both had painful seats so I bought a Niken.
I have an MT07 great bike. The only point to improve for me is the suspension but only noticeable in high speeds. You use what exhaust on this video? And this city you ride is Austin Texas?
Inflation is staggering…. Under $5k 3 years ago. Minimum $7.5k now. Wow.
Inflation... and Technology advancements
did that tesla at 5:35 not have a license plate
Yammie in your opinion what is the best year for the MT07 (FZ07)?
A year later and I'm still trying to find one of those "$5k off the showroom floor" XSR 700's lol
MT-07 & vs DRZ-400sm? for a first bike which would you choose.
3:00 those are pretty good graphics
Been set to Ultra High 😂
Yam can you come negotiate for me? 😂 Every dealer in the Denver area is quoting $8,400 for a 2019 XSR700. Also, come ride in Colorado! You need to rip up Pikes Peak, that would make such an epic video!
The xsr700 seems to be a lot more than the mt-07 not sure it's worth the extra when it's really just the same bike. And the tracer 700 is basically £8k now in the UK
@@chrisredfield3240 what do you think a fair price for a new 18 or 19 MT-07 would be? Reeeally torn between the two bikes!
