I bought my MT07 new in 2017. I have used it locally in England and it great. I have toured the UK and its great. I have toured France and its great. I took a trip to Croatia and Slovenia in 2017 and it was great. When I tour I have a large amount of luggage and it performs and handles great. I regularly get 200 miles from a tank and its not empty at that time. I regularly get up to 70mpg if I stay within the speed limits when touring. This is a fantastic bike and has masses of torque which is great for real world riding. Hoped this helps people who are trying to decide.
I can't understand your comment. The guy said he loves the bike, he's not point pros and cons, he's just being sincere about the week points. I just bought a MT-07, I love the bike too, but all 5 points are true. There are plenty of vids about the good points.

If you're going farther than that without stopping, youre on the wrong bike, which is your fault. - its a naked bike. Wind protection isn't even a valid complaint nor a concern. Did my first big road trip with my mt07 last month. 520+ miles each direction. After market windscreen, not too big, throttle lock, air hawk seat and universal saddle bags plus camping gear on top of passenger seat and bags. The air hawk seat was amazing. My ass pretty much didn’t get sore or uncomfortable. As far as fuel capacity, by the time I’d be getting low I’d want to get off and stretch my legs anyway
75hp not being a lot? Man, the stock bike is equivalent to a 2,500lb car with 468hp. Of course it isn't a 160-180+ hp 999cc bike but its also cheap with 75hp and tons of torque. It can definitely handle a passenger with ease.

You nailed it He already admitted he doesn't know how to ride by his statement "during a lean if I hit a bump the bars go crazy " (more or less) he either is gripping the bars too tightly or placing weight on them when he shouldn't be.
I HAVE A 2018 MT07. I INSTALLED THE BLACK WIDOW FULL EXHAUST AND I GET 150 MILES TO A FULL TANK OF GAS, WITH NO TUNE. I RARELY RIDE IN ECO MODE, I LOVE BEING A HOOLIGAN.😎. I WEIGH 220lbs. AND I DO AGREE WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT ON THE SUSPENSION AND HOW THE WIND DOES SHIFT THE BIKE ON THE EXPRESSWAY/HIGHWAY. I STILL LOVE THE BIKE BUT I’M CURRENTLY PLANNING ON UPGRADING TO A LITER OR CLOSE TO ONE, Z900, MT09, OR GSX-S1000F. I WILL STILL KEEP MY MT07.
I have a 10-15 minute ride to work, a 20 minute ride to school and its so perfect for that. I even drive an hour and fifty minutes to visit my girlfriend ever couple weeks and its honestly not the worst.
Riding a passenger sucks on any bike, full stop, but my 44 kilo (95 lb)Thai wife isn't too bad on the back for short rides and she says it's much better than the MT03 I had before the MT07. My 30 cm (13 in) high windscreen makes 120 to 130 kph (75-80 mph) comfortable, far better than nothing. I also have a rear rack for commuting and long trips of up to 2000 km (1200 mi). Same rig as I had on the MT03 and I'm 178 cm (5'10") and 68 kilos (150 lbs) 56 yrs old. The 07 is a great bike!
All valid points but easily fixable. First upgrade should be the Yamaha comfort seat. Very grippy and thick padding. Will raise the seat height a little. Small gas tank but still better mileage compared to a super sport at least vs the older models. Sport or touring windscreen solves the lack of wind protection. It’s popular because it’s fun and everyone knows it. My hi-viz yellow FZ-07 is unique now since Yamaha discontinued this colour scheme after 2018. Stock suspension sucks especially if you’re heavy but easily fixed with aftermarket replacements. My suggestion would be to look for a used FZ-07 that’s been upgraded already.
Taken mine on 1000 plus mile trips works fine for long trips. From iowa to Florida. With a little planning comfort seat with air hawk cushion set of cortex bags.
4 of them which are bullshit: no wind protection? it's a naked for a reason. Too popular? like who cares when you are looking for a good affordable bike. Too weak for passangers? bitch please i took passangers safely with a moped when i was a kid. Small gas tank? well a bike doesn't have a large gas tank anyway. Also, this keeps the bight light and easier to handle.
I got my fz07 stolen a couple weeks ago and replaced it with a FZ6 (FZ6 is a naked R6 basically, they didn't make it very long). I miss the torque the fz07 SO much. I swear that engine is the most fun you can have while staying under the speed limit
@@125conman if you could, that would be great. Currently rising a 2004 fz6 and looking to ?upgrade? to MT07, bit hesitant still because I believe they are a hot ticket to get stolen. Don't think anyone wants to bother with my fz06, good drive still though
I'm super surprised that tune eats up the mpg like that. Have a 15' fz07 that doesn't have a tune but has a full two bros exhaust and cruising around 55mph I've been averaging 67-70mpg. Highway speeds I can make about 190 miles before a refill
I am an old man, 70ish, and love my 2018 mt-07. Got Akra titanium exhaust, TWDW flash, center stand, saddle bags, NC windscreen, handguards. A practical machine with plenty of wheeling capability, works for me! (Not great for 2-up)
It’s funny when people say it only has 70hp and that’s not enough to double. Then you go to the “third world” countries and see a young family of five riding on a 50cc scooter. Or say it’s no good for touring and yet some people have travelled around the world on little 125cc bikes and had a blast.
I put the Puig Touring windscreen, being 6ft tall, it was a must. and honestly does change the look of the bike, makes it look bigger, wind protection now made a MASSIVE difference.
I have an XSR 700 and I love it! I usually ride by myself and I don't do long trips so for me is the perfect bike. I highly recommend this motorcycle. either the MT07 or the XSR 700. If you do like long rides or ride with a passenger you should go with something bigger.
Bought a showroom 2015 as my very first bike. Mods list is far too extensive to list but the most significant were exhaust, new bars, seat, Hordpower airbox with a PowerCommander V (with hord's custom map) and front/rear suspension....its truly an amazing ride.
My buddy has the large wind screen on his 16' fz07 nd he can be pushing 80 sitting up no problem on the freeway. I have to start ducking at about 55 on my 17' fz07 😅 I ride 365 days a year rain or shine and I have no regrets.
I'm still riding a 2009 Kawasaki Versys 650 and it literally has NONE of the problems that the Yamaha MT-07 has. #1 - Extremely comfortable seat for the rider and the passenger's seat isn't too bad, either. #2 -5 Gallon Fuel Tank on the 1st Generation Versys. 5½ Gallons on the Gen 2 & Gen 3. #3 Wind Protection on the Versys 650 is a lot better. Not great on the 1st Gen Bikes, but I've got an aftermarket windscreen that's works great and looks good, too. #4 - Popularity. The Versys 650 isn't too popular, either. I've only seen 2 others in town. #5 Suspension - The Kawasaki Versys 650 has an adjustable front shock, and a fully adjustable rear shock. No motorcycle that can outperform a Versys 650 on the Dirt, and on the Road, too. The Versys 650 handles like a dream on paved twisty roads.
You can sit back farther and she won’t fall forward and can get a softer seat. In the turns you also need to adjust your weight or it will be unstable.
"I don't get anywhere near that advertised fuel economy!" but then "I've also got an exhaust and tune on it." I think I see the problem. :P Mine's stock and I easily hit 140 miles on a tank before it starts flashing at me. And maybe it's just me, but I need a break after two hours so that range isn't a huge deal IMO. If it was a couch-on-wheels Road Glide or Gold Wing, then I might be a little upset.
Dude! I don't understand how you say this 649cc Torque monster is low powered. Here in Jamaica we Legit ride 150 and 200cc bikes which we call (fast) haha. You guys are privileged man, take my word for it
@@Jafmanz even the best of the 125,s aprilia rs 125 has 34hp anymore and it will probably blow up before it made it too 100mph the mt-07 has 75hp. Would definitely beat any 125 top end. Look up some times. 125cc 6.9sec 0-60 15.3 1/4 mile. Mt-07 3.8sec 0-60 12.13sec 1/4 mile.
There is a comfortable seat for the r1 too but when I buy a naked in the first place I expect it to be comfortable out of the factory. I don't need to spend money to make my naked bike ridable for longer rides or commuting. What is the point to buy a naked bike if not the comfort aspect.
If you want a long distance naked bike get a 2018+ gsxs 750. Drove 4 hours to pick it up and rode it back filled up about 45 minutes after leaving the dealer. And one more time before getting home. Averages about 160-180 miles per tank with a little over 3 gallons
Went in trip with my 300 km trip with the 2 saddle bags from yamaha and with my gf in the back, yeah it was painful but doable. For my day to day trip is good, city riding is the best but for trips you got to use what u have!!
All the 7 range are fantastic, they can keep up not just in performance but in other ways and are easily sorted if you find it's to tall, seat to hard all these are available from a world wide of aftermarket suppliers, and most of all are bomb proof❤
I have a 2018 mt07 and I ride with a pillion all the time in fact i just came back from a 3 hour ride and both me and my pillion were comfortable and relaxed.... I think his first point may vary between what year you have
I have a 2019 MT07 the only passenger complaints I get are about rear pegs. I get nearly 70 mpg in the UK and regularly get over 150 miles to a tank. It's a naked that's why I got it, I'm old school. Like I've been riding for over 35 years and it does what I want. That includes doing 300 mile days, the suspension ain't that bad and I'm over 6 foot and 17 stone. My only problem is build quality, you obviously have the wrong bike for what you want.
Guys he says he loves it lol. He's not saying it sucks in general, he's just outlining some of the "potential" negatives you should be aware of when considering purchasing depending on your preference.
I mean its probably because yours is tuned but I get like high 50's for my mpg. Granted, I am a pretty nice rider (I don't punch it at every light). That being said, I still like to go fast and I've never gotten under 50 mpg doing that.
If you're going to use an mt 07 as a second bike... Did you already have a nice road bike? Just getting Enduro or dual sports. It'll be cheaper and it will still wheelie all day plus you can rip dirt too
Nice video man. Sad to see you get some hate from the mindless funboys. I just got mine and can confirm all the 5 points. The bike is fantastic, but all bikes have week points.
Well I may be old and slow but on a long motorway run I've got over 65mpg and I've even got 40+mpg on a track day :) I've also got a Hagon rear shock and front progressive springs which lower the front by 10mm, still not perfect but a big improvement.
I had the 2019 MT07. I AGREE TOTALLY WITH YOUR COMPLAINTS! The seat sucks on that bike. I traded it in on an older Ninja 1000. I traded that in on my two week old 2020 Ninja 650. So much more comfy in the saddle than the 1000. I have the KRT ABS edition. I bought the factory tail trunk kit with backrest (she likes). TST plug n play integrated turn signal/tail light (easy install), factory touring screen (still needs a deflector, I'm 6'). This bike is in the top two of bikes I've owned that was flat out comfortable, smooth power band ( won't jerk gf's neck shifting), and the new Dunlops are now my favorite tire - replacing Purelli Angel ST. This Ninja inspires you to lean more than my Ninja 1000 could. Those tires make the bike feel weighted and planted in turns way better than my 1000. The display through the app let's you even check lean angles. I commute 50 miles round trip a day. The MT07, The Ninja 1000 , and the Ninja 650 I fill every three days and never see the low fuel light. It's basically a 65-70mph cruise. At fill up with 148 miles on it I put in 2.3 gallon with the Ninja 650. I like this bike and I'm an old timer in your eyes. It does beg for a slip-on! Akropovic megaphone. Have you tested a 2020 Ninja 650?
The only 2 good things of an mt 07 is the engine, is very good and reliable. And it's a wheelie machine! The rest of the bike is just garbage unfortunately... Yamaha could make this bike even better but they don't want too..
It would cost more and less people would buy it. The ideia was to make a reliable (engine wise) motorcycle wich was cheap and extremely fun to ride. The rest of the bike is what you know, cheap plastics and a frame that rusts easily.
I have a 2017 FZ-07 ABS. It's made for romping around town. I live in Orlando, Florida so it's perfect for those streets. My commute is 10-20mins. Enough acceleration power when you need it. Enough power for the freeway. When i first got the bike i was accidentally pulling power wheelies because my first/previous bike was a 2012 Kawasaki 250R. Used to twisting that throttle all the way and banging through the gears.
In my country there are between 15 and 20 million people , and in 2019 for example , there were 318 YAMAHA's registered , lets say 100 out of those are mt 07.. , from 2014 to now.. there are still UNDER 1k mt 07s from like 12-15k that were registered in my country since 2014 , so u can say they re still rare
I've been riding a 2017 mt-07 motocage and so far I'm not planning on changing it and if I do it might be for an mt10 ... I just can't find any bike that sounds as good as the 07.
1. Riding With A passenger (supersport are worse) 2. Small Gas Tank (not a deal breaker; it's fuel efficient) 3. Zero Wind Protection (but easier maintenance being naked) 4. Way Too Popular (I ride a GSXR750) 5. Stock Suspension (Conventional forks are easier to maintain for hooliganism. Street riders won't notice much)
To what I see, your biggest concern should be "Left grip on the handle bar is useless"... I ride a 2016 FZ07 with 28,000 miles on it. No problem so far...
People today are so spoiled, when I was your age I would feel so blessed to have a bike that nice. I wouldn't even notice the things your complaining about. I spent most my life riding bikes that were not half as powerful.
exactly!!!!!! God I can’t stand people complaining about every little thing about bikes and riding. I was excited to even ride a Grom and rarely complained about anything but lack of power
Thank you, I don't feel like the Lone Ranger. My first bike was a half worn out Yamaha DT100 with a cracked head and I had a blast on that bike, wind, bumps, bruises and all. Pansies! Some people need to just stay indoors and ride their "gaming bike" in the comfort of their La-Z-Boy in mom's air conditioned basement.
My dude, how did they get rid of the Jerky throttle on yours? I got exactly the same bike, it runs amazing and i love it; however the ON/OFF throttle at low speeds is really jerky. did this get settled with a tune or what exactly? I’m wanting to do some wheelies but with that throttle a bit jerky i’m scared. 🤭 Would love to hear back from you!
Hey, this is the best thing to eliminate that and it does a lot more for your money than other things. It's called 2 Wheel Dyno Works. It's simple, you just mail in your ECU and they flash tune it. I personally don't have it on my FZ-07, I got an EJK instead (doesn't eliminate the twitchy throttle) but many others on FZ-07 dot org swear by it, it's good stuff, trust me. 2wheeldynoworks.com/ GL!
Honestly my mt07 feels like it has enough juice to do pillion ok, but yeh without a backpack on my passengers do fall into that gap between me and the pillion seat
Bro if you want to ride with a girl get a Harley. Girls don't care about the sports bikes but they seem to really like Harley's. I'm just being honest with you.
Spokompton to EWU!! I used to drive that 5 days a week back in 2009-2010. I was so much happier living in Coeur d’ alene, Idaho! But anyone who wants to put themselves through school and doesn’t have much money or scholarships, go do your first 2 years at North Idaho College. I was paying 916$ a semester for 15 credits! Plus, cool campus put the parking sucks!!!! Wish I had my MT07 on that drive!
Something is wrong with your setup. My 2016 had the yoshimuro full exhaust, flashed by VCyclenut and routinely thrashed that thing. It always got 50+mpg. I picked up a 09 in 2017 and sold the 07 about a year later. I miss it, mostly the sound and the fact it’s so small and light it kinda has a little supermoto feel. In the 2 1/2 years, 11,000 miles I owned it, I only met 3 other people riding one around VA.
That weird you only get 100 miles.. I have a 2019 with air filter, sc project, and a xplane tune and I'm getting 150- about 180.. prolly filling up when u still got a gallon or so in yr tank..
Yesterday I rode a 350 km trip with the same screen that you have. The seat gets to your butt after around 60 km's, but with enough stops and a travel speed of 90-100 km/h, this bike isn't the worst going to a longer distance trip. You could easily do 500 km's per day if you really wanted to.
I had this bike in riding schoo' and had lessons from 8am until exam coming back at 2pm. I'm not a light person. Didn t have a problem with the seat. Not at all. 😊
I never rode a motorcycle before but I been a motorcycle enthusiast and car Enthusiast since I was a kid. I'm thinking about getting the MT-07 or the MT-03. Which should I get as my first.
You can start on the MT07 I believe. If you have zero experience on a motorcycle, i advise you start on something smaller but you definitely don't have to

8:23 list of all 5 reasons
Thanks for saving us the time :D
4 of them which are bullshit:
no wind protection? it's a naked for a reason.
@@Glanthor88 why are you being a meanie weanie bo beanie!!!
I got my fz07 stolen a couple weeks ago and replaced it with a FZ6 (FZ6 is a naked R6 basically, they didn't make it very long). I miss the torque the fz07 SO much. I swear that engine is the most fun you can have while staying under the speed limit
I liked your comment because I had an fz6 and I'm thinking about getting an mt07.. did you notice a big difference?
@@thomasmyers6000 they're totally different. Both great bikes, but way different. I can elaborate further If you'd like.
I am madly in-love with this bike
I love my FZ. Just enough power to find some trouble and just enough power to stay out of trouble.
"I don't get anywhere near that advertised fuel economy!"
but then
"I've also got an exhaust and tune on it."
I think I see the problem.
Ok...mine is not stock and i hit round 180miles.
if i drive with my leather suit i can drive through for 4 hours without a break easily
couch on wheels. That's good lol.
I have a National Cycle V Stream medium windshield. It takes the wind off your chest with no head buffeting and changes the whole ride.
I have the same, it's very good, I can tour on this bike
Dude! I don't understand how you say this 649cc Torque monster is low powered. Here in Jamaica we Legit ride 150 and 200cc bikes which we call (fast) haha. You guys are privileged man, take my word for it
Paradise Biker you’re right my dude, I didn’t think about that. We are blessed to be able to even enjoy these beautiful machines
here in the UK there are a few125's that will make mt-07 look slow 0-100mph.
all are 2 strokes, late 80.s early 90;s.
You can try yamaha mt 07 preload adjusters , and bellray suspencion forch oil
Totally agree with number 1. My girlfriend can't stand much time riding this one with me, she prefers the pcx 125 :)
There’s a comfort seat for the both seats you can get if you plan on riding with a passenger
There is a comfortable seat for the r1 too but when I buy a naked in the first place I expect it to be comfortable out of the factory. I don't need to spend money to make my naked bike ridable for longer rides or commuting. What is the point to buy a naked bike if not the comfort aspect.
@@Fearless154 It's a 'naked' bike because it is naked. It comes without the extra's like a seat or wind screen which touring bikes have.
Get a hordpower intake and a tune that will add 7-10 hp did it to mine and it woke it up
If you want a long distance naked bike get a 2018+ gsxs 750. Drove 4 hours to pick it up and rode it back filled up about 45 minutes after leaving the dealer. And one more time before getting home. Averages about 160-180 miles per tank with a little over 3 gallons
Mine did fine with me and my wife and she didn’t mind the seat. The part about her sliding off the seat while braking is true.
Went in trip with my 300 km trip with the 2 saddle bags from yamaha and with my gf in the back, yeah it was painful but doable.
For my day to day trip is good, city riding is the best but for trips you got to use what u have!!
What I got from this video: If you like big girls…don’t get this bike
Got it…. 😂😂
Fat bottomed girls make the rockin world go round .
I think his first point may vary between what year you have
I changed my passenger seat out for a cowl instead
I have a 2019 MT07 the only passenger complaints I get are about rear pegs. I get nearly 70 mpg in the UK and regularly get over 150 miles to a tank. It's a naked that's why I got it, I'm old school. Like I've been riding for over 35 years and it does what I want. That includes doing 300 mile days, the suspension ain't that bad and I'm over 6 foot and 17 stone. My only problem is build quality, you obviously have the wrong bike for what you want.
70mpg wow 🤯
Stock exhaust and stock ECU?
At what speed and gear do you cruise?
I get 58 to 62mpg on my 2015 fz07. It is stock with the original exhaust. I don't ride crazy but I also don't baby it and ride too slowly.
You should look into the Ohlins fork. I have it on my 16 FZ07 and makes a difference in the ride
what about the rear sus?
@@lassepfeffer8252 KTech Razor RR. Thank me later.
If you're going to use an mt 07 as a second bike... Did you already have a nice road bike? Just getting Enduro or dual sports. It'll be cheaper and it will still wheelie all day plus you can rip dirt too
they have aftermarket seats, look into them
good buy
I bought a Corbin if you didn’t already get one, expensive but dank! Thing holds you in place when you wanna rip it and the bike slides you backwards
Nice video man. Sad to see you get some hate from the mindless funboys. I just got mine and can confirm all the 5 points. The bike is fantastic, but all bikes have week points.
Me 150 pounds had my brother 200 pounds as a passaenger and this bike is doing really well actually, bit unstable with extra weight.
Well I may be old and slow but on a long motorway run I've got over 65mpg and I've even got 40+mpg on a track day :) I've also got a Hagon rear shock and front progressive springs which lower the front by 10mm, still not perfect but a big improvement.
I installed aftermarket front fork preload adjusters, BIG improvement, progressive springs and heavier fork oil are my next upgrade
The rest of the bike is what you know, cheap plastics and a frame that rusts easily.
got this bike, the best bike ever for everyday commuting
That’s funny my 2017 mt07 spec sheet states 689cc 🤷🏻♂️
Have to agree with you on the passenger aspect but still love my fz07 will stay no matter what other bikes I get
I have a 2017 FZ-07 ABS.
1. Riding With A passenger (supersport are worse)
2. Small Gas Tank (not a deal breaker; it's fuel efficient)
3. Zero Wind Protection (but easier maintenance being naked)
4. Way Too Popular (I ride a GSXR750)
5. Stock Suspension (Conventional forks are easier to maintain for hooliganism. Street riders won't notice much)
To what I see, your biggest concern should be "Left grip on the handle bar is useless"... I ride a 2016 FZ07 with 28,000 miles on it. No problem so far...
So what would you buy instead? Please advise. I am 6 feet, 210, 30 inch inseam, and if my knee is bent too much it gets sore after a while.
Get a cruiser. You probably don't want a sportbike.
A lot of the issues were solved on the R7. But obviously the R7 is Supersport styled rather than naked. But the SP model fixed most of the issues
When you have so many other options to go for, wouldn't you like to know all negatives too?
Thank you, I don't feel like the Lone Ranger. My first bike was a half worn out Yamaha DT100 with a cracked head and I had a blast on that bike, wind, bumps, bruises and all. Pansies! Some people need to just stay indoors and ride their "gaming bike" in the comfort of their La-Z-Boy in mom's air conditioned basement.

I get 58 to 60mpg on my 2015 FZ07. 200 plus mile range.
This Saturday getting one. R6/mt09/ and now Mt07
I’d reccomend the fz-09
I used to get 60 mpg consistently out of my FZ07 when I had it.
On any given day and bike you would probably want to hold the bar with both hands. On a windy day on the MT7 you probably want to get a grip.
Did you put on the American flag stickers or did it come like that???

Flag sticker is backwards on the right side. Union should always face forward.
Dope I’m from Tacoma wa, but live in Vegas. Just got a 2020 mt 07
Honestly my mt07 feels like it has enough juice to do pillion ok, but yeh without a backpack on my passengers do fall into that gap between me and the pillion seat
I got a mt07 Corbin seat and a little windscreen rode it 6 hours no problem.

Should we choose YAMAHA XSR 700 will be a reasonable choice for long trips, right?
Thanks for the info. Things I didn't think about or know about.
Not at all. 😊
fork & rear suspension need attention, depending on riding style, IMO it’s a perfect bike.

The MT 07 is the best selling bike in America every year since 2017 , the year it came out , for a reason .
