I crashed my bike once and was laying beside my bike on the side of the road with a shattered foot and not a single car stopped for the 15 mins that I was laying there until my brother got there to get me. In those 15 mins I had 17 different bikes stop to make sure I had help on the way and 3 of them sat there with me until my brother got there. This is why I love biking and it’s community. The group comes before the individual

You're right, the community is what makes biking even better.
That reminded me of when I first rode a bike and had an accident. I remember opening my eyes and seeing a helmet asking me if I was ok. I didn't know that guy, I was in a main road and I don't know how many cars passed, but he was the one who stopped.
I usually drive by myself because I don't know many bikers in my island. But every time I stop another biker says hi, ask how things are going, and tells random mechanical stuff I don't even understand, I feel a little less alone.

    Super vid.
Years ago, the clutch cable of my GPZ500S snapped while touring in the South of France. I had packed a spare, but it was at the campsite I was staying at, about 5 miles down the road. However, within a few minutes, a middle aged French guy in a car stopped to see if I was okay. He lived nearby and helped get my bike to his house, then took me to the campsite to retrieve the cable.
On getting back to his place, he opened up a big garage and my eyes lit up. There were bike racing posters all over the walls, tools arranged on work benches and other mechanic’s paraphernalia, and three motorbikes. Apparently, he had once raced bikes, as did his son at the time, the pinnacle being the Bol D’Or sports endurance race.
He helped me fix up my cable, fed me and we had a glass of wine 🍷. All while hardly speaking any French or English, just the camaraderie of the motorcyclist to bond over. Vive la France 🇫🇷 Long live the motorbike!

    • @kenwittlief255
      @kenwittlief255 2 года назад +2

why didnt you just ride the bike? 5 miles with a broken clutch cable is nothing
At a stop put the bike in neutral, start it up, duck walk it up to 2mph and kick it down into 1st to get going, or if the bike will let you just start it in 1st gear
      up shifting is easy
to down shift to stop you can try to rev match the engine while you kick it down
or just leave it in gear and hit the kill switch if you must stop

First couple of bumps we went over, the suspension bottomed out! He was so tall on that bike he could flat foot from the passenger seat 😆 Meanwhile I had the bike lowered so I could be on my tiptoes. I eventually got used to being on my toes. Today I ride a 2007 Ducati Monster 695, but I haven’t had anyone as a passenger since!

Part of the reason for that is probably that it is next to impossible to find a parking spot for a car there, whereas with a scooter, you can always seem to "squeeeze one more" into a group of scooters that are parked right next to each other... Rule number 7. I was introduced to this the day I picked up my bike (1st bike/1st ever ride). I had gotten nervous about coming up to a stoplight on a hill with a bunch of traffic so i turned into a parking lot. The parking lot was slanted and for whatever reason I I stopped mid slant and started to walk it back and turning to face the right way. Got overwhelmed dropped the bike so all the weight was goin down hill. Pretty small guy, 450 pound bike, needless to say I couldn’t pick it up.
Called my dealer in a panic hoping they’d have advice, when a gentleman in a truck pulled out of line from the stop light and said hey I saw you having a hard time, can I give you a hand? He was a fellow rider and I couldn’t have been more grateful for the assist, especially having no idea what I’ was doing. That was my welcome to the community and I’ll always stop to check on riders to see if I can help

I don't do the foot drag and have only had a bike license since 1980. I do the foot swap on inclines/declines. When stopped at lights, etc. both feet are on the ground to stabilize the bike, front brake on. I watch the traffic lights and try to anticipate the change, lean a bit to the right and balance on R foot, shift into gear with L foot, put L foot down and lean L to balance bike and move R foot onto peg and brake and then release the front brake. Rear brake holds bike and when traffic light changes, away you go. No need to wear out boots. Other than that, I don't drag feet, I walk them when the bike speed is very slow.

With my experience, I usually try to feather the clutch on the throttle if not coming to a complete stop. If I do come to a complete stop both legs go down unless I'm on an incline at that point I will depress the rear brake with my right foot and then my left leg will come down. Great video by the way it's my first time watching.

I didn’t know how to fix his bike but I had some tools on me so I could get him some comfort. In the end, road assist came to his aid. I felt bad because I couldn’t help him out more, but in a situation like that, I would prefer if someone would just stop and say hi.

We do. But car drivers nowadays are not as swift ,nor smart as they used to be prior to the year 2000. Flashing one's headlights seems to be an archaic practice. Probably because people in America are dumbed-down and insulated, and drinking the instant kool-aid of their Wayz app of complacency and unawareness. Us die-hard mileage drivers and riders still do. As well as flashing when at a 4-way stop with another vehicle who arrives at the same time.

I was recently trained on a forklift at work, and I’m imagining how it would be similar to that. Took a few months to really get smooth with things and comfortable. A few butt clenching moments mixed in. Although my left foot doesn’t do anything in a forklift, both hands and right foot have to work seamlessly together for smooth maneuvering. Shoulder checks, 100% awareness at all times, etc..
Thank you for this video, and all your other videos. They are very helpful, and always give me a laugh.

Yo Yammie .... just a quick update for you. Here in the UK where we are on the opposite side and can't use our hands to wave, the nod is usually done to the side rather than forward. A nod forward is a little dangerous as you take your eyes off the road and could be caused by road conditions too, so the nod to the side is more intentional as a greeting to your fellow biker ;)

If you don't wave back, I guess it means you just aren't as cool as me! One more tip, get on and off the bike on the high side.
