If it doesn't put a smile on your face every time you ride it then, it just isn't for you. I felt that way about my 2021 MT07. I traded it in for a 2023 ZX4RR and glad I did. This bike puts a smile on my face every time I ride it and I've had it for almost a year.
Same I sold my MT07 within 3 months of ownership 😅 wasn’t fast enough and yes I know MT07 wasn’t known for its speed but it ain’t got no torques either
I sold a Tracer 7 after a month, really thought it over before I bought this bike, had many good reasons to do so. In the end I found it boring, it's a bike, it's supposed to make you happy. The dumb choice where you fall in love with the bike instantly is most of the time the best choice. If you made the wrong choice, it's not the end of the world, has been a nice experience. Buy another :)
I'm 70 yrs old and been on the road for 54 yrs and have a total of 60 yrs riding when you count the yrs of dirt bikes before I got my licence. My 1st mt09 was a new 2017 and I now have a 2021 mt09sp. Its light, nimble, fast, handles great and really pushes all the right buttons for me. I can ride it like a sane senior citizen and when the mood hits I can instantly turn into a senior delinquent by just a twist of the throttle. What more can an old bugger ask for🤣? Obviously the mt did not push all right buttons for you, and I understand that. Hopefully you find the "right" bike that puts a huge smile on your face every time you saddle up!
Someone else already said it, but OMG those straight roads everywhere look like hell on Earth! What's the point in having an agile, short wheelbase and a monster midrange if you're not chucking it hard into a bend, then powering even harder out the other side? I can't think of any bike that could make those roads fun for me. Cornering is the most important and essential element of riding here in Scotland.
But he says he enjoys driving a miata which is kinda of a 4 wheel version of a sportbike....a car that REQUIRES twisties to make any sense of owning! Otherwise it is a very impracical car with a tiny trunk and two seats....I own both a miata AND an MT-10 (and 9) but I live in the twisty mountain roads....not damn florida
Bro, 600 miles aint even enough to get to know the bike 😂 put on some woodcraft bars, raise the pegs, and go drive mode 4. Thats what u asking for. And get a windscreen😂 600 miles and selling, u aint right in ur mind.
I've been riding since 1985 and have had dozens of bikes, of all variants and engine sizes. A couple of months ago, I was on the fence about getting an MT-09 or a Z900. I ended up going with the Z900 after just one short test drive. It just put a huge smile on my face. It is fast, fun and so easy to ride. It can be a hooligan when I want it to be or tame as a kitten. Slap a full exhaust on it and the howl of that inline 4 is one of the sweetest sounds I've ever heard. The funny thing is, this is my 3rd Z900. I had a 2018, then a 2020, but for whatever reason didn't mesh with the Z900. Either the third time's the charm or I changed over the past 4 years as the Z900 now ticks all the boxes, especially coming from my last bike which was a ZX6R.
I hate to say it, but in all honesty when it comes to street bikes the more unattractive they are often times the more comfortable they are. I won’t get anything without a windscreen. That’s electronically adjustable now. But somewhere along the way I’ve got old.
@@Antody I installed a Yamaha manufactured accessory windscreen to my 2019 MT10 and immediately took it off. With the wind screen installed, it sounded like I was going 80 mph when I was only going 40 mph. This was because the windshield was not directing all the air over my helmet. Unfortunately, the only way you're going to know if it's going to be better or worse is to just try one.
Had a 2023 MT09 and I get it. I sold mine for almost the same reasons. It would have gotten me in trouble sooner or later. I went for a twin as well. The MT09 is amazing in so many ways but for me, it would have killed me. Literally.
I can relate to this 100% I brought a brand new CB650r after passing my big boy test here in the UK. I lusted after one for years and within a few hundred miles, I wished I’d brought something with a fairing as high speed riding was brutal! Looking forward to the grand reveal - My money is on you switching for a ZX6r 😊
common delimna with motorcycles is one bike will NEVER "do it all" well. If it is a wonderul touring motorcycle? then it is a slow heavy track bike and if a bike does either exceptionally well? It will be a handfull on dirt roads....really one needs a stable of bikes one for every purpose if you are REALLY going to wring all the enjoyment out of things! I'm thinking an FJR1300 for long road trips and an R1 for the twisties along with a 450 supermoto, a 450 enduro and a nice adventure bike.....and my own full time mechanic to keep everyone of em pristine and ready to ride at a moments notice....maybe two of each for that matter for a spare or to bring a friend along
It happens! I got an S1000RR last year and rode it 900 miles before I turned around and sold it, it was technically excellent but I never wanted to ride it. In the past 3 years I've gone through 5 bikes, as long as you're not going into debt for it I think switching around is great to do.
@@IndyMotoRider That's cool. I've had two Street Triples and a GSXS 750. I love the Triple. I also test rode the MT09 (which I also love) and most Harleys during a demo event (Not my favorites tho). Never rode a full sportsbike tho, just because I also use it to commute. It's on my to-do list for sure. So, I got lucky and started with what I loved 🤣 Not ready for those types of bikes tho. May not ever come back if I buy one. Take care.
@@detricklowe624 Sort of! I'm currently on an MT-09 as well, having come off a Superduke I rode for a year. I like the MT-09 engine, I owned a Street Triple for years and triples rock, but the looks haven't grown on me so I'll probably pick up an XSR900 next year (or an XSR900 GP if they ever bring it over to the states).
I got a gsx8r recently and loveeee it. After parking it, I take 10+ pics each time. It looks sooo good and rides amazing. I'd suggest you consider it. Or atleast get yourself a bike that makes you feel that way
@@KirkKreifels great bikes, I have a 2022 gsxs 1000gt. (I ride w gf a lot) but my friend just bought 8r and we traded bikes, it's so fun and flickable, and does what it needs. it's a really good bike. toss a little baby fairing/windshield on it would be ideal Suzuki sells a little taller one for the 8r. (I got a PUIG touring windscreen) on my gsxs gt myself. but yeah, worth testing out
If you're still wanting a naked bike the MT07 is an incredible bike. Unique sound and quick off the line but not fast enough to get into a lot of trouble. Sporty twins the Gsx8 and Aprilia rs660 are killer as well
The Tuono factory is perfect for feeling like you have a super sport but actually being fairly sensible. Plus Aprila frame feels so much better than the Yama. MT07 is very comfortable if you’re tall though. One of the most comfortable I’ve sat on.
I don't think you're crazy, and you shouldn't be ashamed. I bought a new CB650R, restricted to 35kw in 2021 and now sold it without ever de-restricting it. Of course I lost about 3 grand, but I don't regret buying it because it was very nice for learning how to ride a bike. But I learned my lesson and bought a used XSR900 with only 1000 miles for a very good price. And I'm more happy than ever☺️
I owned a R7 and kept it for only 6 months, also not regret it because it’s my first ever brand new motorcycle. It’s a great bike for sure wonderful for track lesson but just not for me🥲I’m waiting for EICMA 24’ and if nothing too appealing comes out this year, I’ll get a XSR900 right then.
He said he'd sooner drive a miata than a vette... hed sooner drive a grom... he played tuba.... he wrings tits when he plays with them... you're not gonna sell him.
I bought a Ducati Scrambler and traded it with 500 miles. Big equity hit but I bought it because I couldn't find an MT09 for sale, anywhere. I ended up on a Ducati Monster and I really love it. Should have bought it first but the Scrambler was so much more comfortable for my old bones.
You definitely need a twin, it’ll grab ya down low and should have solid mid range. Love my fz07s. I’ve owned 3. Also owned an fz09 and mt09sp. Sold my mt09 when I moved and just have my fz07 track beater. Love riding that thing on the track and street but do miss my mt09, love the cp3. Finding the right bike for you is tough with how expansive the market is. Sometimes I even question if I have the “right bike” for me some days even.
When I'm not riding, I think about upgrading, but then I get back on my SV650 and fall back in love every time. I'll never sell my JG (Japanese Girlfriend). I may get another bike, but always will keep my JG.
I am considering a CFmoto 450NK as a first bike. I would definitely love an MT-07 but it’s too much for my wallet. The NK looks better in my opinion and I think it’s enough power and from what I hear it’s a lot of fun. Considering that I don’t want to spend a lot on myself on just a bike because I am a dad and want to spend most of my time and money on my family, I will probably get a used Japanese naked bike around 400-650cc or a new Chinese bike that I will keep long term.
He probably tought, and probably he was influenced by the overrated hype around this bike. Fanboys Will say its the most spetacular bike in the market... But its not
@@Mikaeel84well, in this type of bike, I would choose a Kawasaki Z900 SE. It has better build quality and the engine has a lot of power but is smoother, better to handle, and its sportier than the MT09 without compromising the confort. This bike is an hooligan, it has power of course but seems to want to kill you if you're not careful. And there is a lot of hype around the MT's, and it seems that everyone who has one MT are afraid to point out the flaws. A while ago I was conviced that the MT07 and MT09 were nearly perfect, but then I reviews of people who really ride and own a MT and the flaws are huge. For instance, I never thought the frame of the MT07 could brake, but aparently that can happen while you do a wheelie. That's insane! Fan boys only say that the engine is reliable and fun, and that can be true, but what about the rest? Why no one points out the flaws? And when some one do it is criticized like this youtuber, like it was his fault!
on paper the MT09 is so great, and everyone raves about it, but I sat on one at the dealer and then an RS660 and the RS660 is just the bike for me. I get that the MT has a superior engine or whatever but the aprilia to me is just pure sexiness.
Really no hate. I sat on the RS660 and it felt cheap to me. All the buttons felt mushy, the gold paint just looks like a cheap wrapping and for me as a Naked Bike enjoyer, the Sportbike seating position is nothing, I can wrap my head around. Sure, I understand this position on racetracks, but as someone who regularly does +200 mile tours, it's just not for me.
@@htmt07 depends what your riding experience is I guess. My 660 feels way more premium than my MT07 but everyone is different. It’s not a super sport riding position like a 600cc or 1000cc, the Aprilia sits more like a sport touring bike than a super sport. And the seat is very squishy and comfortable compared to my MT07 as well. I think the sportiest thing about it is the high foot pegs but on long trips you can just turn on cruise control and chill. Idk, that’s my experience. 1 bike does not do everything. The MT07 is for when leg day was too much and I can’t saddle up, 660 for the twisties, and I may get a cruiser down the line. Edit: There are more colors than gold haha I got red and blue.
@@garboi8976 I mean, at least in Europe, the RS660 has a much bigger Pricetag compared to an MT07. That's why I expected a more quality feel from it. I sat on the Aprilia on a Motorcycle show. So they had the "flashy colour" on display 😂. For the price of one RS660, you can almost get 2 MT07, one MT09SP or an MV Agusta Brutale 800RR. I love sporty bikes, but with "just" 100 hp, the RS isn't even doing a great job there. But maybe I'm just jealous, that I can't sit on a Sportbike for longer than 10 minutes before my back starts to kill me 🤣. For how long do you own your 660 now?
@@htmt07 only just a few weeks. I think also since I got mine for 8k off of Facebook marketplace it was a no brainer. Cause all the MT09s near me are like 9-10k and I found this amazing deal on the aprilia since the first owner had to move for the military. I wouldn’t have ever paid 12.5k for one because you’re right that it doesn’t compare on paper to other bikes like that. But also what bike in this category has a 6 axis IMU? Overall I couldn’t be happier. If I wanted to go faster, I would’ve bought a used ZX10R for 11k but that’s not my thing anymore.
@@garboi8976 In the same price range of a used 660, you also get KTM Dukes (I don't know, if you have them overseas), BMW F900R, Yamaha MT-09 (non SP), previous Gen MV Agusta Brutale (don't buy that, service intervals are stupid short) and probably a few more that i forgot. It's a very competitive price range. But of course, if the RS is the dream bike in your price range, that's perfect 👍🏻
Based on everything you’ve said, I would recommend the Kawasaki Z900. It is a naked bike, but even with a small wind cowl that you can buy from kawi the air that hits you is clean. The ergonomics are also more aggressive than the MT09 by far. But not so aggressive to feel like a super sport. It’s also got an in-line 4. However, it’s a longer stroke than most in line 4 motors. So it actually makes really good torque through the entire rev range Edit: it’s also a bike that is just as comfortable to ride at low speed as it is at high speed. So there is no “need” to ride fast.
Try an MT07 or R7, they are so fun, relatively cheap, and almost no issues. Only major issue I've had with MT-07 is swingarm rust, one of the only bad things its notorious for. Also the axle nut likes to gall to the axle if it gets debris in it, so I'd switch that for the popular titanium one that solves the issue. Other than that, I've loved mine. Super fun machine
I'm definitely loving my 24' MT-09. This is my first bike so I don't have anything to compare it to. I love the look of it, the torque, the nimbleness, all the features (cruise control, control lift, clutchless shifting, ABS, etc.). A few things I don't like about it is the seat. After about 2 to 3 hours my tailbone gets sore. And I don't like the stock exhaust on it. Eventually I'll get that replaced along with getting the ECU flashed. The 2nd gear on a stock MT-09 in the U.S. is restricted which limits it's power. The other gears are fine. To fix that I will eventually need to get my ECU flashed. It's a good bike and I'm really happy with my purchase. I love the look of sport bikes but I'm a little older and I don't care to be leaning over all the time so the naked bike works well for me.
I’m 42 and have a Honda innova 125, same engine as a grom, it does an indicated 70mph if i properly have my chin on handlebars, absolutely love it, so much fun blasting round town and down country lanes
I'm really debating on the mt09, had an fz07 a few years ago and now I'm selling my road glide st so I need to replace it with something. I'm happy you put this out there, rather than all these positive only videos
Had an og FZ-07 for 5 years; an og ‘08 Concours 14, sold the FZ for a new ‘21 MT-09. Rode it for a year and sold both and bought a new ‘22 Tracer 9GT to replace both bikes. Best bike I’ve ever had. Cruise control, wind protection, QS, 275 mile range, smooth as a cucumber, factory bags large enough for a full face helmet, naked bike versatility. Hands down my best motorcycle in my 50 years of riding.
Totally get it and thanks for posting so others can learn. I’ve had 7 bikes and some of them were perfect on paper. I loved the looks and the specs of the bike. But the riding didn’t do anything for me. Best decision was to get out early and move on. I now have a bike that puts a smile on my face every time I ride. And to me, that’s the whole point.
I did the same w my 2022 50 th Z900 RS. It was beautiful. Like a rattlesnake. It was a torque monster and could wheelie in a fast 4th gear shift. I got the 40th Ninja zx400 rr. At 135 lbs it's almost as fast but way more control with front wheel where it belongs. Down.
The mt09 doesn’t have to much power. It has the perfect amount of power. I think it’s the most solid bike out there. Doesn’t do everything perfect but it does everything good. Every other bike I ridden there was always 1 or two things i didn’t care for.
I bought a 24 MT09 and after 3 months i traded it for a 24 XSR900. I loved the engine, but I never gelled with the MT. The rider triangle was just too cramped for me was the biggest thing I didn't care for. I thought I'd be ok sitting on it at the dealer, but it had to go.
I have an XSR700 and a Honda Monkey so I understand your thoughts on having more fun on the Grom. Your thoughts on the baritone sound seem so spot on from your videos. I need to ride one to really know. Honestly based on your thoughts, I think you'd really like the CP2 engine. It's not balls to the walls like the CP3, but it's enough to get around town and have fun. My XSR700 sounds incredible with the akrapovic carbone exhaust. Though I am on the other side and have always wanted a triple so my next bike will either be an MT09 SP or Street Triple 765 RS.
I feel you on that. I've owned 2 of the 2nd gen models but I never did fall in love with it. It had really weird ergonomics for my taste. That engine though... A real ripper
I'm with ya Kirk. I own a 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660 and it is the perfect do it all motorcycle. The twin 660 just like you say is enjoyable at all rev ranges. The wind is no issue at all with the taller puig wind shield I got. The ergo is so comfortable and the seat is big and soft. And the power.. it's pretty damn nice and linear.. just enough not too much. If you ever get the chance to demo give it a try.
Thanks for mentioning that you find the sporty more lean forward position more comfortable. Always thought it'd be a good reason for me to swap for a naked but i should be just keep holding onto my sports tourer.
I totally understand. Despite all logic when I rode my buddy's MT-10, it felt soulless next to my old Ducati 1098. (IMHO). Doesn't mean it wasnt a great bike, it just wasn't for me. Riding or driving isn't always about stats or things that look good on paper if you just don't feel the vehicle. You have to be comfortable with your decision and like what you like because you will be the one riding it.
At 61 y/o I just Traded my 2015 FZ09 On a 2023 KLR 650 Adventure. It was my 9th bike and I had her for 5 years. With the M4 Exhaust popping on decel, I became addicted to the speed and sound. Total Hooligan. When Its time to move on do it.
Well my bike is a 2001 VFR and with Givi shield and x-tra on top , excellent wind protection . ABM straight bar, very comfortable. 520 conversion chain 2up rear sprocket, more torque . I'm so used to the v-4 I would miss it. I've now got 72'000 on her. oh and gear driven cams. Every ride I come home happy. And it's paid for.
There's a reason why one has multiple bikes. The Yamaha CP3 is my favorite engine of all motos. With that said kinda like you I thought it was too much bike. It is a very fun in a thrilling way but not fun in a giggling way. My Monkey is fun in a giggle way. I really like my SpeedTwin with that low end torque but don't like the weight. What I really like is the torque of my ZeroSR and the power is just about right for street...but electric has no range, so only good for commuting and around town runs.
3rd gen MT09 and Grom owner here. I also have more fun riding my Grom than the MT and also agree with you about the power. Some time I think it’s too much power and the lack of wind coverage above 65 is one of the reason why I’m looking for some with fairings. (I’n aware it’s a naked bike)
I am totally with you. I sold my xsr900. Same engine. Totally naked. I felt I was constantly pulling the throttle on the highway at interesting speeds. The torques great but I brought an africa twin and the torque is more fun especially as you have so much wind protection. I love my new bike. Although I love how the africa sounds the triple I will also miss. It's addictive hearing the sound. I don't miss anything else. However I think it's an awesome bike and a mate has a 09 and he loves it!
0:08 I saw a black Huracan today while I was out on the roads earlier. Guess you're getting an MT10. Time to finish watching the video! If the motorcycle you ride makes you feel good and happy, ride safe and ride alot.
I wrote a comment on your video from three months back in which you explained why you chose the bike, and I said you might have enjoyed the MT07 more. I still stand by that. There's something about the cable-actuated throttle which feels more immediate, and you can use more of the bike's torque on the street. But having watched this, I think you should test-ride KTM's 390 machines - both the Duke and the Adventure. You can rag them and not go to jail, and they just feel great.
Smart guy. I feel the same. Do what makes you happy and don't worry about the goober-measurers out there. I ride a little 500 scrambler and it's a blast to ride and does what I want it to do and it won't get me into trouble with the cops and I have a better chance getting home to my family. Ride for YOU man. Don't worry about the masses. If someone else wants to buy it and it's their happy place, then good on you! I'm happy for them! :) My family has been in the motorcycle industry for 50+ years and that little scrambler takes you back to just enjoying the ride itself and not worrying about anything but the ride. ;). Everybody has their own opinion and that's why they make more than one type of motorcycle. :). Just ride safe everybody!
A friend of mine told me, your either an MT-09 person or an MT-07 person. I don’t care much for the crazy speed, or doing highway pulls. Bought the MT-07 and couldn’t be more happier.
I bought my 2023 mt09 SP used with only 700 miles on it so your not the only one. How as a bigger guy with two bad knees I prefer the riding position. Would I love an R1 yes but my back can't take it anymore
You made the right call, you got scared of the MT09 and downsized. Better to be honest then get into trouble. Enjoy your 400, i hope it fits you better.
Yes. Looks and sounds great. But might as well be a liter bike. I ride an 08 sv650. Susuki V twin. Love the sound. Power is good. 130 is fast enough. Plenty to have fun and not trying to kill you every time you ride it.
Maybe consider a Moto Guzzi V7?? I love mine. On my 2nd one. Have had sport bikes and the MG can't even compete, yet it's the one I still have and look forward to riding every day.
I love triples and ride both MV Agusta and Triumph. I haven't ridden the MT-09 but I'm sure I would enjoy it. To each their own. There are a lot of different bikes, because there are a lot of different riders. Ride your own ride and enjoy.
@@ChaseLancaster hello, I really do like the street triple...imo, the 2023 and up is better than the older models. They have a imu, and a slight change in the geometry. What I don't like about triumph is that they will not release technical information needed to wrench your own bike. You can't even reset the service light. For that reason I will never buy another triumph motorcycle
I had the same feeling on my 2020 mt09 and I swapped for Superduke 1290 and I feel completed as a biker 1290r is just great, power and handling is just unbelievable comparing to mt09!
Hey bro no hate from me. Everyone is allowed to like, buy, dislike etc whatever they want and I understand what you are saying about it being too fast. Realistically you can't use all of that power on the road without going well above the speed limit. I have a CB650R and even that will send you over the speed limit pretty easily and is plenty fast to have some fun on. That being said, that MT09 does sound amazing and I might even get one one day when I grow out of my CB650R. Good luck with your next bike and sorry about all the butt-hurt people in the comments moaning about you having an opinion.
A lot of people i heard dont like how the front wheel feels on newer mt09 and dont like the riding position. Think the xsr 900 is better in almost any way where it isn't the same. Front wheel teels better due to wider wheelbase since 2022 model + better seeding Position. I do like the pre 2022 display of the xsr better tho. Most surprising I found that the xsr900 feels more Sporty .
You’re just at the first oil change (600mi) where you can go above 6k rpm,and at 1k miles you can go over 7k rpm and rev to whatever you want, but i think you didn’t observe the break in period. My Fat Boy is at Powerlodge if you want it.
After everything I've had the privilege to enjoy, compliments of Uncle Sam...... ...I end up on a xmax 300 scooter? What an unsuspected blast! It's the Zen of 2 wheel travel...... "This we do that others may live."
I understand 💯 I really think you'd like the R7, zx4rr, Suzuki 8r type of bikes .. mid range bikes to me are the best. 1000cc bikes are overrated. I started on an 2022 R3 and moved up to a CF Moto 650NK (clone of Kawasaki ER6N 70hp/50tq) and love it. Got it for $5600 out the door and that's the reason I didn't get an MT 07. I love the sound of the twin and the torque. I've rode my friends R1 and it's a great bike but it's way too easy to go fast and get in trouble in that one. Mid bikes are the best imo. All love and hope you get the bike that connects with ya.
I’m surprised to hear so many ppl complain about wind blast on naked bikes. I think you will eventually get used to it. I don’t even think about it on my Streetfighter V4S now. I also have a 24 zx4rr so yea I can speak for supersport too LOL.
At the end of the day the right bike is different for everyone, don't feel bad about trading in a low mileage bike. I tried the supermoto scene with the 698 Mono, put ~280 miles on it but ended up trading it in for an Africa Twin.
Im actualy been searching for my first bike in 12+ years of not riding. Done a lot of research tons of it, lookinf for something between 600-900cc: cb650r, cb750, street triples, trident 660 tuono, MTs, etc... and gotta say something draws me to the mt07 it sings to me like a mermaid to a pirate.
I totally agree with you ,i had a test ride of the 2024 mt09 and I wasn’t very convinced after trying it ..i only had it for 1 hr but yes the wind it’s a bit too much and the ergonomics r kind of alright not sure i would enjoy a 6 hr trip ..
I know a guy that bought a new bike, rode it a month, then traded it for something else. He didn't like that bike so he traded it for his previous new bike at the same dealership. He lost $5,000 to end up with the same bike he started with.
Yeah, that is really stupid to say: "go ahead and sell it; you don't deserve the MT-09". If the MT 09 doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. How the hell are you going to enjoy riding the bike you are on if you don't really like it as much as you want to? Pay no mind to the haters. Only insecure people have to make everyone's opinions conform to their own. Motorcycles are like music; something about the one you get needs to resonate with YOU, that's the most important thing.
The 900cc CP3 makes for the heart of a brilliant bike... but a Super Duke R knocks the shine off of it. I had a MT09 and a XSR900 (current generation). The bike is not slow by any means, but it isn't a power house either once you have owned some bigger bikes/superbikes. And Yamaha really chokes back their bikes these days in the lower gears, even the MT10. You make a good point though about the bang for the buck. It is a terrific bike for the money.
Sounds like you need a ZX4RR and get an ecu flash to remove power restrictions or a GSX-8R. The 8R is torquey and a little less HP but has the fairings for wind protection.
if there was a naked version of the tiger 900 id highly recomend that. Due to the T-plane crank it sounds like a twin and got more low end torque so its kinda useful in the city and its slightly less powerful as the MT09. And obviously it got a windshield but ur more of a sportsbike guy I guess :D I personaly tested the Yamaha tracer GT+ which got the MT09s engine and I wasnt a fan of it too. Kinda randomly discovered Triumph for me and I was sold instantly.
I also felt like the 09 was way too much bike for me when I started riding it, but I gave it some more time and miles. Theres nothing wrong with admitting its too much bike. I know its way faster than I am, and I'm ok with that... my main complaint is that seat sucks to be on for more that 20 minutes.
Not sure if you were able to test ride it before purchase. Some dealerships don’t let you which is stupid as hell. One of my best friends has a 2023 sp. We hit twisties at a spirited pace. I have a 2017 cbr1000rr. One day we switched bikes as she’s never ridden a super sport and I never rode an mt09. I didn’t care for the mt09 in the twisties. Damn thing felt super unstable in the curves. Always wanted to power wheelie which is fun at times but when trying to maintain throttle in a curve and hold a line it just didn’t feel stable at all. On straightaways it was constantly trying to speed wobble. Fun bike for being a hooligan but for how I ride I really didn’t like it. My friend that owns it also has a street triple rs that she takes to the track and she said she prefers her street triple in the curves as it’s way more stable than the mt09.
I agree, it's not for me either. The way the engine cover sticks out so much on the one side always annoyed the shit out of me - I was forever banging my boot against it and wishing to god that it was better. Same with the seating position. Sure, the low down grunt is great but there are better bikes out there with as much grunt and better ergonomics and handling - imho. Compared to say an old Gen 1 Fazer 1000 it's a big big disappointment. The riding position, the handling, the power, all far superior and for much less cash.
Go for the Tenere 700 world raid! Perfect for a 6 foot 1 frame, very comfortable and looks absolutely badass :) Edit: 2024 Kawasaki zx4rr niiice, good choice!
Maybe your problem is those flat roads. This bike was designed for the twisties.
Agreed. It's not meant to be ridden on a flat grid with stop signs ever 100 feet.
I disagree. Read my comment above.
If it doesn't put a smile on your face every time you ride it then, it just isn't for you. I felt that way about my 2021 MT07. I traded it in for a 2023 ZX4RR and glad I did. This bike puts a smile on my face every time I ride it and I've had it for almost a year.
Glad I'm not the only one 😂
Same I sold my MT07 within 3 months of ownership 😅 wasn’t fast enough and yes I know MT07 wasn’t known for its speed but it ain’t got no torques either
Zx4RR FTW. Love mine.
Dang, that is a good testament. I am interested in the ZX4.
Welcome to Ironing Board Flat, Swamp Land Florida, where Litre Bikes and bigger are 👑.
DRAG racing it's our thing, not dragging knees and elbows.
Bro, 600 miles aint even enough to get to know the bike 😂 put on some woodcraft bars, raise the pegs, and go drive mode 4. Thats what u asking for. And get a windscreen😂 600 miles and selling, u aint right in ur mind.
25000mls and you know the bike better than anyone
Would you say that adding a windscreen to a naked bike would do the trick?
Just depends what you’re doing with it, a windscreen around town is pointless.
I'm 51 and my Hayabusa windscreen works just fine 😆
Literally.
I can relate to this 100%
I brought a brand new CB650r after passing my big boy test here in the UK.
I just got my new 2024 MT-09 SP last weekend. What an amazing bit of kit, and i haven't had a new bike since my gen 1 2016.
I had a 2016 gen 1. Got the itch real bad for a new one… sold it in 2019
Honestly I want this bike as my first motorcycle simply for the shifter. That's so slick.
It happens! I got an S1000RR last year and rode it 900 miles before I turned around and sold it, it was technically excellent but I never wanted to ride it. In the past 3 years I've gone through 5 bikes, as long as you're not going into debt for it I think switching around is great to do.
Have you gotten closer to figuring out what bike fits you?
I did 3 new bikes in 4 years. GSXR 600, Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory and landed on the Hayabusa. Found my Goldilocks bike at last.
So, I got lucky and started with what I loved 🤣
Not ready for those types of bikes tho. May not ever come back if I buy one. Take care.
Have a Goldwing Tour and a Monkey, upper and lower end of the Honda line. Find myself flip flopping between the two.
Or atleast get yourself a bike that makes you feel that way
Dream bike! I still need to work on a license for it here in the EU and all of that.
Would love to try one! My local dealer has a used gsx8r that was traded in for a cbr600rr
(I got a PUIG touring windscreen) on my gsxs gt myself. but yeah, worth testing out
@@KirkKreifelsfunny I have the GSX8S and want more power so I’m looking at the mt09
Kirk, thumbs up for being honest with yourself and not sticking to smth you don’t like just because you just bought it.
You don't have to use all the power, you just know that its there...
the dude is trolling for hate
I may get another bike, but always will keep my JG.
idk how you dont love the bike, but the important thing is to get a bike that you love bro, makes the entire difference
? Don't you think about these things BEFORE you buy?? Seriously
I thought too much and didn't trust my gut.
It's ok to make mistakes, it's not ok not to fix them.
Great video. I think your video made 100% sense. Its a "taste" thing... and taste is personal... like fashion or food. You just didn't care for it.
So it actually makes really good torque through the entire rev range
Edit: it’s also a bike that is just as comfortable to ride at low speed as it is at high speed.
Maybe you need an mt07 or better yet a cruiser with low end torque and low top speed. That’s what I’m looking for. 😊
I'm not much of a cruiser guy but the rebel 1100 seems like an awesome bike
You'll love the MT07, they're incredible
I’m 42 and have a Honda innova 125, same engine as a grom, it does an indicated 70mph if i properly have my chin on handlebars, absolutely love it, so much fun blasting round town and down country lanes
What do you use to record your voice? It's super clear and there's barely any wind noise! You've got the perfect system!
I'm really debating on the mt09, had an fz07 a few years ago and now I'm selling my road glide st so I need to replace it with something.
I'm happy you put this out there, rather than all these positive only videos
Why you selling the RG ST
@@michaelmaningding it was a lot to have into a bike and not use it for its intended purpose. I never did the touring like I thought I would
Had an og FZ-07 for 5 years; an og ‘08 Concours 14, sold the FZ for a new ‘21 MT-09.
Try a dual sport. They are fun, lightweight. Not too fast. Or a scooter bike xmax 300
He mentioned he needs to love the looks and have wind protection.. you're not wrong though they are great rip around town bikes and very economical.
I have a lot of fun in my yamaha nmax125. Low power motocycles can be fun too. You can go full trotle almost anytime.
I rode a Honda Grom even tho it’s a low cc bike but it’s a lot of fun.
Small bikes are super fun. I have a Monkey.
I sold my CB919 for 2-Honda Groms for me and my wife and I have more fun gooning on it with her or friends than I ever did on my 919
Gsx8s, puig screen, m4 exhaust,airbox mod,2wdw tune, 90rwhp,64 ft lbs. Done your welcome..😂😂
You might say I’m crazy but hear me out…the mt10 sounds great at low-ish speeds. Lots of growl and endless pops and bangs on decel.
That's why I love my KLR . It's a blast . Sounds like a BSA AND takes corners and highways like a road bike. Soft ride w 8 " travel from and rr.
Are you gonna get an R9?
@@LSB44446 Most likely not...thinking of gettting rid of all my big bikes except the ZeroSR and reducing my mini bikes
3rd gen MT09 and Grom owner here. I also have more fun riding my Grom than the MT and also agree with you about the power. Some time I think it’s too much power and the lack of wind coverage above 65 is one of the reason why I’m looking for some with fairings. (I’n aware it’s a naked bike)
this bike is a dream in my country its just because my country is flooded with 150cc and below bikes.
I feel you bro! Bikes are an emotional experience you have to love it! Hope you love your new Kawi! ❤️
Thanks mate! Did you see what I ended up with?
@@KirkKreifels I did, after posting this. I've actually never ridden it but I think it makes a whole lot of sense. Hope you're enjoying it!
Wasn't it obvious before you bought it that you'd have problems with the naked bike at high speeds? Or that the riding position is upright?

What exhaust do you have? it sounds good
It’s too bad they don’t have the Tracer 7 in the US, I think that would be a good option.
Looking forward to a video on what you replace it with.
A friend of mine told me, your either an MT-09 person or an MT-07 person. I don’t care much for the crazy speed, or doing highway pulls. Bought the MT-07 and couldn’t be more happier.
How about both?
I owned an MT07 for 5 years and just bought the MT09 SP. I can't lie, I had more pure love for the MT07.
@@DrewSprings mt07 for sound and town. Mt09 for twisties and day excursions. 🤣
Right on!
How do you like the street triple? I'm deciding between the MT09 SP and the STRS.
Was gonna get a mt09 but went with the mt10 and definitely dont regret it 🎉🎉
Hey bro no hate from me.
Thanks mate! Enjoy your Honda
Ride safe
A lot of people i heard dont like how the front wheel feels on newer mt09 and dont like the riding position.
Think the xsr 900 is better in almost any way where it isn't the same.
Front wheel teels better due to wider wheelbase since 2022 model + better seeding Position. I do like the pre 2022 display of the xsr better tho.
Most surprising I found that the xsr900 feels more Sporty .
Traded my CP3 for a Duke 890R. For the occasional track days, it’s sooo worth it.
What about the XSR 700?
Cool I didn’t know you had this channel that covers motorcycles.
I totally agree with you ,i had a test ride of the 2024 mt09 and I wasn’t very convinced after trying it ..i only had it for 1 hr but yes the wind it’s a bit too much and the ergonomics r kind of alright not sure i would enjoy a 6 hr trip ..
I sold my fz07 and stuck with my z125 lol it fun and puts a smile on my face every time i ride it. I ride street so the z125 is good enough.
You are on your way to losing lots of money if you think there will be some perfect bike. People go through tons of bikes before they learn.
Ride the bike you love, love the bike you ride, simple.
Grom will always put a smile on your face 😊 cheers 🍻
I know a guy that bought a new bike, rode it a month, then traded it for something else. He didn't like that bike so he traded it for his previous new bike at the same dealership. He lost $5,000 to end up with the same bike he started with.
Ouch!!
I get the grom thing. I want one to add to the stable. I ride my talaria e moto more than my Yamaha these days. Nothing like being able to go anywhere
Sounds like you need a ZX4RR and get an ecu flash to remove power restrictions or a GSX-8R. The 8R is torquey and a little less HP but has the fairings for wind protection.
Your channel is like a festival of good moods and fun moments. Keep lifting our spirits with your beautiful creativity!🍖🏋️💕
if there was a naked version of the tiger 900 id highly recomend that.
Seat really sucks
did you have any mechanical issues with it ?
Try a Triumph speed twin it may have what you’re looking for. I got one and love it for those reasons
Can’t wait to see the new bike! Looks like Kawi Green?!
I had one and loved it, but probably not for everyone.
I moved up to the mt10 and loving it now, again probably not for everyone
My friend that owns it also has a street triple rs that she takes to the track and she said she prefers her street triple in the curves as it’s way more stable than the mt09.
zx4rr
i've owned more than 40 bikes including the fz09 and an mt10sp currently, nothing is like the fun of a little zx4rr. you can actually rev it out
but it looks like you already got it 😉
I agree, it's not for me either.
Perfect for a 6 foot 1 frame, very comfortable and looks absolutely badass :)
Edit: 2024 Kawasaki zx4rr niiice, good choice!
Eww
@@kellyd1910 says the guy with the fart mobile
The only bike I’d buy today is the xsr900 gp.
I wish that bike was available in America! Hopefully it will make its way here!
@@shaytan3067I didn’t know! I’m from Europe and usually we are the ones not getting stuff 😅
