My first children's book was published by Hemingway Publishers. It cost me only 350 get it published. They were awesome. They did the formatting, helped on illustration faux pas, and turned out a great product. BUT.... I will pursue other avenues going forward. 😃

Thanks for the video. Helpful as always!! :) I will be honest that my first foray into publishing my book was a bit overwhelming, but after having done it once and realizing where I need to make adjustments, going into the second book will be so much easier. Having the help of people like yourself though, definitely helped a lot :)

    Hello Mandi:
You're right. Definitely avoid Vanity Presses. They charge for everything. For every error that you want to correct in your manuscript, they charge $20. Ten errors to be corrected amounts to $200. And, their marketing coaches are abysmal! You most likely know more than they do. They also make money of bulk orders from the author...one of their coaches let that one slip.
    Great video.

Thank you for this. Now I know I shouldn't get involved in vanity press. I wish I knew this before I started dealing with them. I was a beginner just starting out, not knowing which step to take. And I'm stilling learning years later.

Moments after registering the copyright for "a book," I started getting phone calls from what must have been a vanity press publisher. I thought that business practice was so weird, I never picked up the phone. And the "book" was actually an online magazine

Great video! One thing you didn't touch too much on was editing. It's a super important service to hire for and can be the most expensive. You're right, though, everything you need to know about self-publishing can be found on RUclips. Also, the actual upload process to KDP is super easy, especially if you've hired a cover designer and interior formatter who know the requirements. I do kind of wish that I tackled the formatting myself because it's a little harder to make changes, but I'm really bugged by self-published books that have poor interior design, so it's worth it for me to have a professional-looking book. Lastly, I'd like to share that my series of four books have cost just under $2,000 each, with editing, cover work, and formatting, and I go very comprehensive with developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading.

Good intel on Vanity press versus traditional publishing difference... 😮
Vanity press is like legal extortion scam for publishing.

When I was first started looking for traditional publishers, some vanity presses did email me or even messaged me on Wattpad. I almost signed up to one, but didn't have the money for it

Well that is a shame. I want to create books not for my vanity, but so I can publish myself reading them on RUclips for my nieces and nephews without copyright restrictions.

Hey Mandi, I purchased the course and it is great so far. I cannot find the link to the downloaded template for Adobe ID. Can you assist, please? Thanks

I’m getting so discouraged I’ve watched all of your videos and I’m stuck in the cover and a couple other little things but I’m done with my manuscript.

You keep saying don't pay a vanity press company, but you have said numerous times in the video. Hire a professional...Hire a professional... Hire a professional. Sounds like spending a lot of money to me.... 🤔

Trust me when I say a vanity press will ask for way more money than hiring a freelancer and they won't do a good job.
