I've had the same problems with shoes, and you're right, no one in their right mind would wear their clothing. right now they have the type of designs you'd expect to see at zumiez, the stupid try hard graphics and ridiculous collabs. they should try to change it up and give the brand a 90's girl "mouse" vibe. comfortable shirts, relaxed chinos, little logos. less is more. focus on cool street edits with jazz and 90's hip-hop. that type of style is timeless.
I love how everyone is going at this bloke and dismissed the part where it clearly says “Lakai had been LOSING $1M per YEAR and was WEEKS AWAY from being SHUT DOWN”
I've always loved Lakai. Good designs, good color choices, great logo, actual great potential but indeed, all that was hindered by poor quality. Hell, my last pair didn't last 8 months WITHOUT even touching a skateboard.
I said this on the skatetheory video. I only owned 2 pairs of Lakai, both of them were the MJ's. Have 0 compalaints, super comfy, great board feel and wore really well doing a lot of tre's and heelflip type stuff. The minimal stitching on them was great for making them last a long time. I've still got a pair of MJ's (i dont skate them) just because of the looks and comfort. I have no real "brand loyalty", i've bought some Adidas Busenitz before which were a great shoe, but just didn't last. I pretty much just buy shoes based on looks, price and if I really like the skater.
I saw an add of these shoes on instagram and I liked the look and style. I’ve never heard of the brand but as of right now they’re 50% off. I looked at all the different options and fell in love with one but I wasn’t sure if I should order them. Here I am on RUclips trying to figure if these are the real deal or not.
i've bought three pairs of Lakais and all three of them hurt my feet. even tried sizing up a half size and they still hurt my feet. i feel like they just got out competed in the market by nike and adidas and vans because the shoes are just objectively better. they have more tech, they have bigger factories, and they can take risks, so their shoes are better. any time a brand starts doing random collabs with other brands I take that as "we can't come up with anything interesting and original so here are some beer shoes." The last cool shoes they made were the Yeah Right limited editions. That was a good collab.
Has the first Carrol shoe when it came out . Never had a pair since . But this is happening . Skateboarding will die off in time if we run all the skater owned companies out of business.
What are some good skater owned companies? Been skating for 20 years and fell off for a while and came back to this mess. The culture is so different 😅
@ I just stick with emerica . Or any of the sole Tec brands . Fallen is skater owned .they are all slowly dying off cuz kids wanna wear Nikes . The culture and industry is so 🤮 now .
@@MarkKWebsterjr @willmax95 thanks fellas. Yeah the culture went out the window. The most popular brand in my city is closer to Supreme than anything else

the original manchester is one of my favorite shoes ever, from the mid 2000's (i'm old). IMO after fully flared came out the quality of their shoes went off a cliff, which is weird because that was their peak relevancy wise.
I love Lakai. I love their cupsoles and hate their vulcanized shoes. Well I skate only cupsoles shoes either way, Lakai always fit my feet nicely and always been perfect to skate since day 1. Yeah they don't last as long as say NB 1010, but those shoes hurt my feet that's why I always stuck with Lakai, or Etnies another good brand.
I just bought my first pair of lakai’s a month or two ago. At first, they hurt my feet but that changed once I broke them in. The quality isn’t the best (the canvas isn’t holding up the best and the laces broke), however they have the best board feel out of any shoes I’ve skated in previously
i had lakai's version of the es koston one, maybe '08-'10ish, in brown/gum. they looked nice, decent leather quality, comfortable, but they felt noticeably cheap compared to the es original and the soles came unglued and fully detached long before they had any significant wear. never have and never will buy them again.
@@willmax95 such a bummer, and a seemingly easily avoidable one. i've made videos repairing foxing delamination on vulc soles with contact cement, and sole repair with shoe goo and bike tire tubes, with great long-term results. i prefer well-worn skate shoes, i keep them on life support until they fall off my feet 😭.
Yeah the clothes seem like a waste of time, I feel like skaters don’t where skate branded clothes as much anymore. It’s kinda tough to compete with Nike, new balance and Adidas now since almost all everyone’s favorite skaters are wearing those. But then again soletechs emerica etnies and es’ shoes are still around
Soletech was just sold as well. The golden era is over and the big brands are here and not going anywhere. All I really skate anymore anyway is half cabs so as long as vans sticks around we should be good.
Big business taking over skateboard companies is an ugly look (also not anything new) It's not the way true skater's roll. A True skater is rebellious by heart. I mean Vans are still a juggernaut, but there Built different. Who knows, I just know what the new owner of lakai did is lame.
