For real. I'm shocked. I skated a pair of Foy's New balances for about 4 months and the wear is pretty normal. I bought a pair of Lakais about 2 weeks ago and just this morning I noticed the patches on the heel have fallen off of one shoe and the other is chipping away. A previous pair tore a hole in the heel.
Nah, I don't think so, but to me they feel so weird, even tho' I love the brand and the people behind it. I think they just aren't good for today standards. For example I love vans (mostly the classics) even tho' they wear off like crazy but I prefer to have the feel and thus a really good session with em'
Yeah I like the actual shoe design it's not chunky but the rubber and foam composite where the wear and tear happens the most should be better on ALL shoe brands I rekon. I have been skating NBalance for a while now
Lakai was done when all their big hitters left, it’s been downhill since then. This buy out will keep the company alive, it’ll just be a similar program like Cariuma
The last Lakai shoes I had were some MJ's. They were great, style was on point and not too much stitching on the front to get wrecked and make the shoe fall apart. I skated a lot back then, so it's hard to say if they wore too fast or not. But they seemed to last a long time.
Im not sure I remember any old ones specifically but I have always liked how they felt. Would be curious to know if quality went down or not like you are saying🤔
@skatetheorist Quality went down dramatically. Past Lakai shoes used higher quality suede. It was thicker and more durable. The rubber used as foxing was again thicker and more durable. The outsole had better grip and lasted longer. Mid sole more dense with an appropriate insert. Today Lakai (including Nike, Adidas among others) capture the look of great shoes while reducing the amount and quality of material used. They're thinner and broken in immediately out of the box. This is in fact a selling technique, the idea break in time is something annoying and bad. Whereas it actually means higher quality. So companies skimp on material and sell at a higher cost to make greater profit. The problem with Lakai is people just aren't buying them like they used to. More and better options are out there both in terms of styling and quality. Anyway, I can talk shoes forever.
been skating for 21 years. skated many Lakais. The issue with Lakai is they try too hard to be the 'Nike' of skateboarding in terms of shoe style. Unfortunately, what Lakai did have going for them was their team. Sucks to say, but making such an amazing video just put a target on all their skaters backs, and when the big dogs came into the game (nike, new balance, adidas etc) they just scooped up all the skaters for deals Lakai couldn't match. Just the chance of getting a shoe on Nike is worth the move for a skater who wants a future. Furthermore, I hate to say it, but the quality is just terrible. Lots of skater first shoe brands haven't kept up with the quality skaters demand now days ever since nike came to skating. Especially with the economy. I used to go through a pair of shoes a month easily. Sometimes two because quality was so fucking hit or miss. I can easily skate busenitz vulc for at least two months. I skated these Nike hyperfeels for almost a year once, no joke. Not only is the suede bad on brands like Emerica(terrible quality shoes btw) and lakai, but the soles too. If I throw some duct tape on the side of my busenitz I can literally skate them for six months. The difference in quality is crazy. It's not my hope that Lakai disappears, but they will in time. That is unless they make some nutty videos and get people wanting to be on a legendary team again, though I already explained why that will shoot them in the foot.
I love my Lakai “Fades” In the Newport colorway lol. I’m a bmxer who just started skating, they were good and then I dropped in some vans pro insoles. Now they are perfect. Extraordinary impact protection compared to almost all my shoes and insole combinations
That sad truth is that the corporate companies just make better shoes. When I have skated lakais although I liked them they just fell apart on me so quick and can’t afford to support them just because it’s skater owned. My go to shoes are the vans skate series because they just last so long for me. I sure someone will say I’m a terrible person for not buying shoes from a core skate company but at the end of the day if I want to stay rolling I gotta skate a better quality shoes that lasts more than a month.
I understand. People also have to consider I am not rich and I need to get some bang for my buck out here. Can't be spending 90+ on a shoe that wont last I cannot afford that
Me with Last Resort. I just can't support something so cheaply made and overpriced just because it's skater owned. Most skaters are not rich by any means and need a pair of shoes to last them more than a month at LEAST. Same with off-brand pants. I ain't paying 120 euros for a pair of Big Boy just to rip them in one session..
I don't like to admit it but skateboarding is dying, the industry is having a hard time all round, PRod admitted he's employees now make more money than the pros, right now if you're involved in skateboarding it can only be that you love it, not because you want to make money.
Talking about skating wearing a ufc shirt….
i like lakais but they wear very quickly

thanks for this bro everyone is trying to figure out what's going on and this was a good summary.
💪
To think they had tony hawk just a few years ago.

I got a pair of brand new in the box 2007 Lakai Carroll Selects. They are great shoes. Much higher quality than what Lakai is making today.

all of the Crail tap companies have felt stale for many years now. Very forgettable
the lakai telford has been my favorite shoe of all time. Super bummed on this
I only liked the cambys
All those advanced books then the A+ study guide from like a decade ago lol
😂 they really need to update that

save money by maybe having 4 good colors instead of 14 niche ones?
You can be core and number one, but you don’t make that statement. If you’re great, then the people will make you number one.
Never really liked their shoe profiles.
“Who rides for vans?” Just pay attention to the industry brother

why were u swimming in your kicks big bro
Sometimes even fish get fly playa
Literally can’t say anything if you had no clue about the company before their “big” video
For context , fully flared came out in 2007, Lakai hasn't mattered for 17 years
I thought Pretty sweet was a really good video and kind of under rated.
But you're not wrong, Fully flared was definitely their high point.
It's going to be okay. Daddy trump is here
