The point is, however, most ordinary people today don't get hacked, because...they're ordinary; your mad Russian hacking skillz won't get paid off if you're just hacking a random nobody. But big important people and organization that might be the target of serious hacking (for example, I dunno, the DNC?) also tend to have seriously good protection. So I'd imagine is gonna be the same with cyberbrains. For most ordinary Tims the benefits greatly outweighs the tiny tiny chance of getting mindfucked.
I remember reading somewhere that in the grand scheme of things brain hacking is rare, because if the average joe tries to do it to an ordinary person and fails the firewalls kill them.

Once Batou has been introduced to this, Ichikawa (and even the whole section) starts to manifest through him, just hack the conversation, it is like a possession. Finally he enters the store. Remember he is being projected with all this hacking things and his self awareness is partially lifted off. So anyway the test involves a body and internal reaction while his selfawareness is partially away (uh the sames with motoko´s boobs lol), his reaction under this circumstances will reveal his degree of crazyness or criminality (what was the name of this?) making him unable to go on with his own personal line of.investigation. He has to submit to section now. You can also say it is a technique used by the puppetmaster, one to be learned lol. Anyway you can see Im having a parallel studying of this scene , maybe both at the same time than the rest of watchers

I fully believe this is one of the most atmospheric tension filled scenes ever animated.
It's awesome, reminds me a bit of that staircase scene in The Untouchables in terms of building tension.
It's still a visual and auditory masterpiece no matter the amount of time passed.
