    interesting that Kuze is using a standard military bayonet as his knife (note the hole near the tip so it can be linked to the sheath and used as a wire cutter) probably of a type normally issued to soldiers with minimal cybernetic parts, primarily as a utility tool. By contrast Batou is using a knife with a reinforced tip and a notable thicker blade cross section, which Kuze recognises as being indicative of a Ranger. To me this suggests that the knife Batou is using is specifically designed to be used against enemies with potentially high levels of cybernetic parts by someone with above human levels of strength, since the blade is set up to penetrate well and be used for prying type attacks.

      Like in one of the movies Batou 'talks' to the Yakuza using a LMG lol. Its just overkill to send him against regular people. Makes sense hed have a blade good for killing cybernetics considering what Batou and the rest of Section 9 have to put up with.

  • @gajustempus

    Kuze proved he knew battle tactics well:
    First he blocked the attack by sacrificing the weakest part of his body (his inferior hand), then he removed the strongest weapon of his enemy. In the fair fight, he waited for the right moment to get the upper hand, then used that chance to take his enemy's mobility away by destroying Batou's leg. The rod to the shoulder was just the icing on the cake - with one leg out of commission, the long-range weapon out of reach, he would have been able to escape with no way for Batou to follow him anymore.
    THAT is how you fight.

    • @griigorihabii
      @griigorihabii 6 дней назад

      Batou was truly foolish using that kick. It left him vulnerable, especially with his ranged weapon being unreachable. If I'm not mistaken, an appropriate counter for high kicks has tremendous payout because it allows easy access to the lower limb which can be used to manipulate an attacker's center of gravity easily.

    To those that complain. Didnt you watch the anime at all? It was well established in several episodes that Kuze was one of the first artificials, he had more training on how to use his body, he was a former commando as oppose Bauto (former ranger n soldier). Kuze's body was more "unique". If Bauto won, I would call BS.

      True, Kuze has been cyborized for a comparably longer time than Batou. He's also a full bodied cyborg which affords him both experience with cyborization and strength and speed. Batou however has more combat experience, as he fought as a commando ( which Rangers would be considered in many cases), and Kuze only saw real combat once. Against a far inferior force at that.

    To those, who says: "Batou should've won, because he was an elite ranger during WW4, while Kuze saw real combat only once..."
    Here's my theory on Kuze's life and his military career, before he deserted.
    I wrote this 2 years ago under one of the comments here, but I think it's an interesting read, so I decided to share it again individually:
    I don't really believe that Kuze saw real combat only once.
    The way Ishikawa talks about him during Episode 16, it sounds to me that it was actually him, who led that company in Korea. While it may be just "presentation", but you can even see him giving orders on the top of the mountain, when they discovered that non-marked refugee camp. So in that case, by 2024 (when the Peninsula War/Korean Incident happens) his rank has to be at least on Captain level (one rank below Major :))!
    Now, according to what we can find on the net, Motoko was born in 2003. I always assumed that Kuze is like 2 years older than her, so he could've been born in 2001. Motoko was already a "big player" in the military by 2020 (when she defeated and recruited Saito). Maybe she didn't have the rank back then, but everybody already called her Major, so either way, she couldn't be too far to reach that rank! And while she was only 17 years old, due to her being a cyborg and a good strategyzer (and it's war time and it's only an anime anyway...), it's not really that much of a stretch!
    Now, we do know that before Kuze was enlisted into the war, he was visiting universities (he found Motoko's child body in an university). He was most likely ready to start his college years, which means that he was around 18-19 years old when he was enlisted.
    Even if we estimate his birthyear to be 2003 (like I said, I rather believe that he was born in 2001, but either way, he's around the same age as Motoko), he was still recruited into the JSDF around 2021-2022. Which means that by the Korean incident (2024), he already had at least a 2-3 year military experience.
    Which is had to be a honest, legit experience, since WW4 was still going on at that time! There's no way that he just sat in a camp with a gun in his hand, doing only guard duty! He was a cyborg with a very strong PFK (Peace Force-Keeper) body! He definitely had to go out and experience combat during those years!
    In Episode 11, the antique shop owner also kinda confirms this, because when Motoko asked her "what happened to the boy (Kuze)", her answer was that he got enlisted and was taken to oversea. As far as I know, from Europe's and Asia's perspective, oversea usually means America.
    WW4 (also known as the Second Vietnam War) took place in Mexico, America (mostly Middle and South), and East Asia (Japan, China, Vietnam and Korea mostly). So we can even assume that in his first couple years, Kuze served somewhere in America.
    Just like how The Major, Batou, Ishikawa and Saito served some time in Mexico :)
    TLDR;
    Kuze was enlisted years before the Korean Incident and just like The Major, he was a prosthetic prodigy, so he had his fair share of combat in WW4 and he quickly rose through the military ranks and reached Captain rank and got his own company by 2024. Unfortunately, most of his company were inexperienced and became a mental mess after their first time combat experience. With the shame he felt by "failing" his company and the disgust he felt by the media and the way his superiors treated him and his men, he deserted/exiled himself and became a refugee. The rest is history ;)

    Amazing! Truly the peak of GitS Anime!
    I really wish Kuze would've got his own spin-off series!
    He's such a cool - I especially like the "Cyborg Ronin Vibe" he gaves -, interesting and well designed character, but unfortunately he's also very underrated (at least the way I see it), even among the GitS Fanbase.
    A series about him, during his wandering years (2024 - 2032) would've given us so much S.A.C Lore and world building!
    Imo, it definitely would've been a much better series than Arise and SAC_2045/Netflix.
    Edit: In my opinion, he's also very similar to other characters I like from different series.
    Like (Darth) Revan from Star Wars, Batman or John Wick.
    He's also very similar to Altair Ibn-La'Ahad from the Assassin's Creed series.
    Hell, if I compare him to the OG AC protagonists, then I would say:
    He's got the wisdom (and in a way, the arrogance as well) of Altair.
    The handsomeness of Ezio.
    And the strength of Connor, along with his kindness and selfless willingness for helping people.
    What a great character!

    Why general direction, art direction, and music direction all matter. Take away the score and the tension is greatly diminished. Take away the commitment to sci-fi realism and we don't flinch when Batou's leg is pulled apart. Take away the story and what both characters are trying to achieve and we wouldn't be invested in a simple, two minute knife fight.

If someone can stop your special forces rifle bullets with the palm of their hands you're probably doing something wrong...

      They actually go through his hand, you can see the holes In the back of his hand when he's got Batou's leg.
      He used his hand to absorb the impacts so they didn't hit his body as hard (but he still gets shot in the torso).

      You literally cannot tell me that the kick at 0:31 wasn't the worst animated kick I've seen in a high-budget anime. Rest of the choreography is fine, the jump-flips are a little much, but seriously, that kick made me burst out laughing the first time I saw this scene, it looks so legitimately pathetic.

    • @Raemnant
      @Raemnant 4 года назад +8

      @@Toothydeere Aww man really? I think that kick looks pretty good. Brought it up to above hip level, pulled it back, knocked the gun right out of Batous hand. Gotta keep in mind that their bodies are cybernetic and built for advanced physical movements, so its going to look weird. The beauty is that they animated it that way, instead of saying "hey theyre all cyborgs, but were just gonna make them move like normal humans". Theres like 18 frames to that kick

    • @Toothydeere
      @Toothydeere 4 года назад

    Still one of my favorite anime characters. Batou is such a unique personality who’s deep with pain and trauma from his past which seeps into the show. No wonder he felt so close to Motoko as she was the only one who really understood what he was going through. Such a great series too. But you gotta watch the original Japanese voice acting as the English dub has zero depth to it and is terrible imo

    • @クゼ-f9l
      @クゼ-f9l 5 лет назад +9

      I agree with you. Batou is a well-developped character who's got his time and purpose in the show. I also like how his personality shifts when he learns about Motoko's close link with Kuze, another person who lived some trauma and pain in the past. Both are great characters to fit with her.

    • @mickel1470
      @mickel1470 5 лет назад +7

      I actually think the english dub for this one does a pretty good job, though it does fall short.
      There are definitely parts in this series where the writing and dialogue are said a certain way in the native tongue that just does not translate into the english dub.
