That's one of the things Watanabe wanted to put in with this film. We see something similar in emotion, and that is with Pierrot in Session 20 and Spike expressing genuine fear within the first 5 minutes. Watanabe wanted to show more humanity in Spike and kind of tweak his character to display this. Spike isn't the one in control here, whereas he usually is in the series and does most things in a cool and calm way. It shows that he can be defenseless at times and is able to display vulnerability, even if it has to be forced out of him. This is the only time we see Spike completely helpless in a physical sense.
@Rachael Poulin sure it didn’t have stakes, but the execution was so well made. I knew Spike wasn’t going to die, obviously, but like someone else said the movie is the only time Spike is truly helpless and cannot defend himself, especially since from the look of things he could have beat Vincent. To me that makes the fight scene even greater; that I know the MC will survive but I’m still watching in anxiety (and awe because damn, that animation)
3:12 the detail in this scene was so telling to both Spike and Vincent's inner psyche. Spike doesn't flinch when the bullet passes his skull hence his lack of fear in dieing. And Vincent not losing his train of thought shows he's never caught off guard. The little intricacies is what makes this series and characters a one of a kind.
It’s actually jeet kune do. It’s a side kick, my favorite move :) not a lot of time to use it though, you can see Bruce lee use it in several movies. Most important one is when he kicks the white guy in enter the dragon and stomps on his chest xD

Yes, they're similar in many ways. Albeit, Spike lives in the past, continuing a dream, but keep that for him, continuing to keep going in the world in a certain way. Vincent have no past, wants to die, burning the world for it, breaking the dream, and he wants his past and suffer to be shared.
If I remember correctly, this was actually confirmed, Vincent was meant to be a kind of foil to Spike; both incredible fighters, with indomitable spirits, both with rugged secretive past that shaped them, both driven to this existential existence of wondering if they are alive or dreaming., Both are caught in a "living dream," but both see it differently. Whereas, Spike is seeing the dream as a reflection of his past that he's struggling to overcome--being stuck in this place of half-existence while staying true to himself while carving an existence out in a harsh world. Vincent is the darker look, if a person who fell int that kind of mindset forgoes all sympathy, love, empathy, they just want people to suffer like they do, to make the dream stop at all cost, even if it meant destroying the world--and since it's a dream, is there really any repercussions for his actions, he thinks? Vincent is living in a nightmare, and unlike Spike, instead of seeing it through and not giving into the horror that might be, Vincent is adding to it. The two are quite literally the Alpha and Omega.

"You're an original aren't you." that single line alone has so much connotation to it. Spike, being a long time bounty hunter, has seen this sort of mentality from a bounty head so often that it has almost become repetitive. "I have no fear of death, just a dream that lasts for an eternity" is the mentality that all vicious criminals have and that is there folly, they don't seem to understand that they are just another nuisance the world has to go through until they are eradicated. They are nothing but a rinse and repeat that do nothing to benefit the world, only to remind us that these things happen because human and society are flawed in nature. Vincent, although very entertaining, does nothing to change this stereotypical evil villain role, just like almost all evil ppl in that he doesn't fear death and so death he wishes upon others. Spike probably subconsciously picked up the mentality of evil doers because his job is to chase them and so in his condescending remark "You're an original" he portrays that Vincent really isn't original and that most, if not all, evil is inherently unoriginal, I think.
It’s inferred that spike used to have that mentality before he met Julia and even after that he didn’t really care about dieing or living, just pushing the odds
It's a terrible line. Check the subtitles. It's more like "What an asshole" or something like that. Same thing with Spike's continual lines about "paying back a favor." In the subtitles it's "kicking his ass" or something similar.
we have a butthurt shounen fanboy here :P honestly thats what I think, though some shounen fights can be good, I was like half joking because of the shitty budget the shounen anime has. Take it with a grain of salt.
Fun fact: Vincent is voiced by Daran Norris, who also played Cosmo from the Fairly OddParents, Dick Daring from The Replacements, J. Jonah Jameson from The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Knock Out from Transformers: Prime.
It looks impressive, but he isn't really able to get much power from it. Although there is value in stunning strikes, it's also pretty evident from the final fight that Vincent only needs a few very solid hits to bring Spike down, while it takes many hits from Spike to wear Vincent down. Vincent's style is closer to a combination of tiger style kung fu and mma, while Spike is very Bruce Lee inspired.
The movie doesn't stop or let go from this moment on. Everytime I see Spike with the headphones and he hears Vincent is on the move I get chills and excitement every single time.
@@nagger8216 Faye’s memory came back wayyyyy before they got to mars, that’s why in the final episode Faye didn’t want Spike to leave due to attachment, but at that point Spike had already been technically dead after the train fiasco, even the Shaman that fished him out said he was dead for a couple of minutes, hence why in the end he sent a full on frontal assault towards Vicious

Having finished the series before watching this movie, I paid close attention to the fortune teller’s line “it was not a good day for you to die, so you did not” which was either some good foreshadowing or good commentary depending on when you watched the movie.
The afterlife is a dream that last's for an eternity - Vincent Man I love cowboy bebop it might be episodic but it's still legendary it brings philosophical concepts to the table such as the past's influence, existentialism, existential ennui and loneliness. Definitely in my top 10 in the short anime category
3:43 So that's where the last episode of Boondocks Season 3's sequence was from. It was reminding me of where they referenced one of those shots from, and that's awesome. Aaron loves Cowboy Bebop!! =D
I remember the first time I saw this film. My friend and I were already becoming Bebop fans in our late teens when it was airing on Adult Swim for the first time. One night he and I were at a mutual friend’s house where all the guys in the clique tended to gather for a while. Cool, older dude in college. Many D&D sessions too. I digress. We were watching and this scene right here, was so bad ass. It was pure Bebop but upgraded to a new level with the production value. There were some technical feats achieved here by the animators, like the panning away from the holy hand grenade, to the smoothness of those pylons swinging by below in the water. Very cool math they used. It’s not shown here but the explosion just after the scene clips was done so well with the speed of the monorail.
Anybody notice the attention to detail in this scene 1:56 when they go into the tunnel? Shows the processing speed Vincent has. Within that moment he deduced his best time to kill some would be when his lights adjusting from coming out of the tunnel
Also, it would’ve been better if the film were live-action. Imagine Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel, Ming Na Wen as Faye Valentine, and Hugh Jackman as Vincent Volaju.
I agree, the only wrong thing about this movie is for not being live-action. Keanu Reeves would've been a spot-on Spike Spiegel but we never got to see that.
@@KenMasters. live action is not superior to animaton, how is that a flaw? keanu reeves might have had the look of spike down just fine, but as cool a dude he is he's not an actor with much range. @@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Well that's true, Keanu Reeves would've also made a better Scott Summers/Cyclops better than James Marsden's portrayal who turned the optic blasting mutant into a wimp who is 3 inches shorter. One of the other reasons why he can portray Cowboy Bebop's Spike and X-Men's Cyclops is also because The Matrix (1999), proved how extraordinary he is at being an action star, and a bada$$ like those two characters.

They were all miscasts in Cowboy Bebop who were only there for political reasons that have nothing to do with the source material, just like Henry Golding's Snake Eyes, Mindy Kaling's Velma Dinkley, and even the whole cast from the up-and-coming Powerpuff Girls by CW.
I dont really know the characters names on that show aside from Naruto. I never seen an episode. That clip was popular about a couple years ago. Search Naruto Bebop to find it.

haven't seen this for around 10 years but this scene is always one if my favourite scenes ever and in its own way my one favourite scene with the cool fighting.
Difference between Spike and Vicious: Spike made sure the girl screaming next to him got pushed down and out of the line of fire. Vicious might have very well held her in front of him and used her as a bullet shield.
Did just show why anime is truly breathtaking. The whole scene was a masterpiece. It truly captures what the whole movie was about, from character, music and direction.👏
I've never seen the film or series......but....In the early 00's I saw an ad for this movie on TV at a friends house when I was 8. I was intrigued enough to look it up online and I saw this clip and remember being thoroughly disturbed by it. Now it looks exactly as I remember where he digs into his chest and twists and all. I'm actually amazed it's here and it matches.
I really do like how they have Vincent walk and move and such, he moves as if this a dream for him, really selling the point that he's not there in mind and bodies like he's numb to the world.
3:44-3:57 Spike is literally the most baddest badass of anime with the sickest martial arts / closed armed combat skills 3:52 Bruh, Spike’s sick wing chun skills

ElRadioDJ913 There's a scene in BR 2049 where K wakes up at a campfire on the outskirts of LA and turns to see the replicant prostitute. It is eerily similar to a scene in Cowboy Bebop The Movie where Spike wakes up next to a campfire on the outskirts of Alba City and turns to see the native american who saved him. I like to think Denis was paying homage there.

Spike probably subconsciously picked up the mentality of evil doers because his job is to chase them and so in his condescending remark "You're an original" he portrays that Vincent really isn't original and that most, if not all, evil is inherently unoriginal, I think.
I see, thanks for sharing
its also because he thinks sort of like that too, so hes like, gee, am i that fucked up?
Great comment. ...that i didn't read cause I almost fell asleep.
5 seconds of action in Bebop is more interesting than all of the action in DBZ, or most Shounen anime in general.
+WarriorBoy yep
+Pistolshrimp 777 we have here 2 fanboys.
+Stampoulis Rafail We have here one dbz supporter.
we have a butthurt shounen fanboy here :P
honestly thats what I think, though some shounen fights can be good, I was like half joking because of the shitty budget the shounen anime has. Take it with a grain of salt.
Pistolshrimp 777 that's weird...I must've misread his comment, pardon me.
Spike gesturing the passengers to move out of the way is one of the coolest things I’ve seen. As a kid I thought it was so fucking badass.
Fun fact: Vincent is voiced by Daran Norris, who also played Cosmo from the Fairly OddParents, Dick Daring from The Replacements, J. Jonah Jameson from The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Knock Out from Transformers: Prime.
And played Gordy from Ned's Declassified.
He was also the Club Scum MC in Hobgoblins. Yes, really.
Damn, Spike at 3:51 turned Vincent into a Wing Chun Wooden Training Dummy
Love the martial arts here
Well, Jeet Kune Do has its roots in Wing Chun after all...
I swear bruh, spike gotta be the coolest anime character in HISTORY. My man so swaggy with it 🔥
Spike just really can’t get along with guys whose names start with “Vi-”
The movie doesn't stop or let go from this moment on. Everytime I see Spike with the headphones and he hears Vincent is on the move I get chills and excitement every single time.
For those of you looking for the soundtrack at the beginning it's called "Central Station", unfortunately it's unreleased.
4:05-4:29 JESUS CHRIST THATS FUCKING BRUTAL! Seriously I fuck felt that! OUCH!!!
Death grab
My chest hurts
aderose Iron claw XD!
A true masterpiece. The art and feel is second to none.... The. Soul of cowboy Bebop is so deep
Vincent is a very underrated villain.
After years of watching this and the series I finally realized; this was the beginning of the end for Spike as we know it…..
It definitely takes place near the end of the show, probably just before Faye's memories returned.
Seeing this actually makes me more sure that Spike survived in the series finale
We don't really know when the movie take place, but most people agree it take place beetween episode 23 and 24
@@predator2262 that’s not what I’m saying, I’m saying that he got his ass severely beat and thrown off a train so I’m pretty sure he could survive a sword slash to the gut since he could survive this
Nah he didn't. They hinted at him dying since the beginning of the show
Nope. Sorry to break it to ya. But he died.
Having finished the series before watching this movie, I paid close attention to the fortune teller’s line “it was not a good day for you to die, so you did not” which was either some good foreshadowing or good commentary depending on when you watched the movie.
The afterlife is a dream that last's for an eternity - Vincent
Man I love cowboy bebop it might be episodic but it's still legendary it brings philosophical concepts to the table such as the past's influence, existentialism, existential ennui and loneliness. Definitely in my top 10 in the short anime category
- ibf egyptian reincarnation theory is actually true and your spirit gets recycled lol..... -
and what's existential ennui ?
Do you think that True Detective is inspired by Cowboy Bebop philosophy.. it could be kind of fun if it was..
3:43 So that's where the last episode of Boondocks Season 3's sequence was from. It was reminding me of where they referenced one of those shots from, and that's awesome. Aaron loves Cowboy Bebop!! =D
***** What?! No way? He did that particular scene?!! That's extremely awesome. Going to check him out now!! :D
Aaron also copied a scene frame-by-frame from Naruto
I have never realized how epic is this masterpiece Anime back then
I remember the first time I saw this film.
1:30 this shit is so sick. Everyone lauds the animation, as they should, but the direction on Bebop is also untouched.
If I had a dollar everytime Spike came close to death.
The detail into the design of the guns is masterful 2:56
The shot from below with Spike sitting on the seat firing off rounds looks so cool
Anybody notice the attention to detail in this scene 1:56 when they go into the tunnel? Shows the processing speed Vincent has. Within that moment he deduced his best time to kill some would be when his lights adjusting from coming out of the tunnel
Vincent: What's your name
Spike: Spike Spiegel, why you wanna know ?
Vincent: I'll be seeing you in another world
Pure badass!!!
This movie was never about the Bebop crew but their world, I'm convinced the plot is just there as an excuse to show it off
Also, it would’ve been better if the film were live-action.
Imagine Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel, Ming Na Wen as Faye Valentine, and Hugh Jackman as Vincent Volaju.
This is one of the best movies ever!
Maybe there's something else I've not seen that shows otherwise, but reeves can really only play one type of character, and while he does play that type of character really well, spike isn't that type.
@@KenMasters. What do you think of the live action series then?
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502
Well that's true, Keanu Reeves would've also made a better Scott Summers/Cyclops better than James Marsden's portrayal who turned the optic blasting mutant into a wimp who is 3 inches shorter.
One of the other reasons why he can portray Cowboy Bebop's Spike and X-Men's Cyclops is also because The Matrix (1999), proved how extraordinary he is at being an action star, and a bada$$ like those two characters.
@@LJ-hk4tv
What do I think of it?
Much like The Last of Us Part II,
it looked 100% well made, but it's too Woke, which is the turn off.
Remember when the irrational white-washing used to be a thing? Now it's the other way around.
Every time I see this scene I remember that weird rip off scene in Naruto when their may character used exact same animations at Spike in this fight.
It was Naruto vs Neji right? I could be wrong.
I dont really know the characters names on that show aside from Naruto. I never seen an episode. That clip was popular about a couple years ago. Search Naruto Bebop to find it.
+Rinnegan Sasuke no lol kishi is not an animator
+David James it was saskue vs orochimaru
+Tony Nguyen Narutard detected. It's a frame-by-frame COPY. If they truly wanted to do a 'homage', they'd choose different camera angles and reference Cowboy Bebop by it's unique staples, not a Jeet Kune Do-inspired fight scene. Stop defending this instance of plagiarism, you tool.
friendly reminder that Vincent's voice is Timmy's dad
What
@@tanner1152 Same voice actor as Cosmo.
Dude's been in like every damn thing.
Darren Norris.
Can we just all take a minute and enjoy that soft, sexy, deep. STEVE voice.
2:12 Curiosity killed the cat.
The english voice cast killed it with this one, Steve Blum in particular.
Man that track that plays while Spike is being dangled out the window... Divine
Such an amazing movie, love the bebop universe.
Does anyone else think Vincent looks like Alucard's true form from Hellsing Ultimate VIII?
+Lady Leomon I can see that.
Fun fact: Crispin Freeman (Alucard) was originally going to voice Vincent.
+Lady Leomon Ali Al Saachez from Gundam 00 looks like Vicent with red hair.
+Maxy Aedo Cool! I didn't know that, I honestly would have liked Vincent even more if he had been voiced by Crispin (then I would be down because Vincent's girlfriend is nothing like Seras, AxS fan, haha) Thanks ^_^
+Darth Jaulce haven't seen Gundam Zero yet but will look it up. Thanks ^_^
Anyone else see Elektra's car and think that was the last thing you'd ever expect her to drive?
I was expecting a cool little sedan. Guess her payroll is good enough for that ride.
haven't seen this for around 10 years but this scene is always one if my favourite scenes ever and in its own way my one favourite scene with the cool fighting.
Over 20 years later and it still blows most modern anime out of the water with animation and fluidity.
Tbf the cowboy bebop and most anime movies have a very high budget compare to tv series anime
Zangetsu when he was human.
Bruh
Seriously
Can somebody tell me what's the name of the song in the train persecution scene? (0:41 - 1:38)
Sounds cool like hell.
It’s never been released.
Vincent's theme is so damn amazing
Vicious told Spike that he's the only one who can kill him, but you gotta admit Vincent came just as close a few times himself
4:08 Vincent’s strongest move
I've never seen the film or series......but....In the early 00's I saw an ad for this movie on TV at a friends house when I was 8. I was intrigued enough to look it up online and I saw this clip and remember being thoroughly disturbed by it. Now it looks exactly as I remember where he digs into his chest and twists and all. I'm actually amazed it's here and it matches.
It's a great series only 20 or so episodes. Was really ahead of its time with a good storyline
Dear god Spike's inability to breath after the attack was WAY too realistic jesus christ
this is whole scene is so good even naruto have to rip it off ( yeah come at me )
holy shit I totally agree
It's made by the same animator lol
really when
when naruto fights neji in part 1, and i think when sasuke fights orochimaru for the first time.
It's funny cause Boondocks ripped Naruto off the fight scene too lol the never ending cycle
How does spike make everything he does look so damn cool
I HONEST TO GOD thought the little clips on his suit jacket were his ribs poking out of his shirt and I almost had a heart attack
Nobody gonna act like how close Spike was about to die by that other train. Literally 2 seconds
Literally don’t make them like this anymore …. This shit is incredible
Saw this in theaters and lemme say, you really feel the weight of the fights in this movie. The animation is amazing. 3:56 made me wince.
"I blow the bounty if I blow you away." "I have no fear of death" That wasn't the point Vincent.
I really do like how they have Vincent walk and move and such, he moves as if this a dream for him, really selling the point that he's not there in mind and bodies like he's numb to the world.
When my Dad I watched 4:54. My Dad said: “Holy Shit…this dude is fucking strong!”
Damn how interesting that one crazy character is especially in how sadistically he disposes of Spike
3:44-3:57 Spike is literally the most baddest badass of anime with the sickest martial arts / closed armed combat skills
3:52 Bruh, Spike’s sick wing chun skills
Is that hand claw thing even possible
Vincent is a super soldier
Qliphothian What other abilities does Vincent have?
Apart from being from super strength he is very fast and has good aim.
Qliphothian I can also guess that he has a resistance to pain since he doesn't flinch when Spike shoots his hand
Maybe i know theres some sort of fighting style that does moves only made for killing and i believe theres a move similar to the chest thing i forgot what the fighting style was called though but yes that thing is possible or at the very least something very similar to it is humanly possible (sorry for horrible spelling)
I’ve always loved the voice actor of Spike, he did Wolverine a few times, his voice is a definition of bad-add
For some reason, after watching Blade Runner 2049, I felt like Denis Villeneuve should direct a live action Cowboy Bebop movie.
Let's not forget about the Cowboy Bebop-like ending that BR 2049 paid homage to.
Good news Watanabe is producing a Blade Runner anime
He has a different style and aesthetic. The landscapes would be perfect but the style and jazz feel wouldn't be there (if going by his past works). It has to be someone like winding refn.
90s 2000s anime movies were so beautiful
I know right!
Have you seen redline? It’s another banger
Not even Spike is a match for a mean nipple twister.
The chase music in this scene is so good, shame that it's not on any of the Bebop soundtracks. I'd love to hear the full version
The soundtrack is called “future blues”
@@bridgett2414 its not in the album
Where is it then?
@@krizakabona8394It’s nowhere. It’s the only Bebop track never put out on an OST. The only way to hear it is in the movie.
@@MrSoopSA dammm sucks
Spike couldn't die to Vincent. He and Vicious were destined to kill each other.
Spike and vincent look like brothers in my opinion. Vincent being the elder brother and spike being the younger brother of course
Vincent scared the shit out of me during this scene
The dude decided to destroy the world because he couldn’t understand whether he was in a dream or in reality 💀💀💀💀
Best villain motivation in history of best villain motivation.
Omg the way spike fights reminds me of lance fighting from sym bionic titan...
I think this is where titan got their inspiration for lance...
I loved sym biotic titan. Too bad cartoon network cancelled it. They always cancelling the good shit.
+Asmar Craigs true, but if samurai jack is coming back maybe there's a chance for Titan to come back as well...
Absolutely love that show! I never noticed this until you pointed it out so thanks! & your right Samurai Jack is coming back so the creator mentioned at fan meeting that it may not be far behind!
Hopefully
arguably the best Japanese cartoon movie I've ever watched
here's a little reminder that Volaju and Cosmo from the fairly odd parents share the same voice actor
Seeing this part in particular in theaters was mindblowing
