It's actually the same size. Four door configurations now are almost the exact same as 80s-90s two door configurations. Add 1 foot to each front foot of this RAV4, and then suddenly it looks like an explorer sport. It's smaller than you think, and for you to actually refer to this suv as 'huge' is laughable. We're you alive during the 2000s? When the first excursion was considered "mid-sized"? This IS a compact suv and you'd be shocked to see it's barley bigger than the old ones. The ride hight doesn't count, as almost all new cars sit insanely high
I'm surprised over his reaction on ECON on the climate control. It's fairly usual thing, that basically means the A/C compressor is turned off, but all the rest is on = blowing air to the spots you have set and the fan speed remains the same, etc. the AC just is not belt-drien then, means you actually save fuel. Thus, ECON.

I thought the coolest Rav4 was the first year they came out with it (1996 i think) and they had a 2-Door version. I urged a cheap bastard friend to buy it. He could've thrown a surf board on it and his dog in it and be bitchin' down the road.
@@rudolphguarnacci197 exactly! I just remember that when you opened the back hatch of those to the side like a regular door and had clear floor to ceiling room to stow stuff with nothing in the way. That's why I drive an Element now, it's like that on steroids. I'm scared for the day I have to replace it though because everything has turned into something like this RAV4 right here.
I currently drive an 07 RAV4 Limited V6. My friends have told me I get more "utility" out of an SUV than anyone else they know. Huge bike rack on the back, two kayak racks on top, which also double as lumber carriers for home projects. I took out the 3rd row seats and put containers in the floor wells that hold a ton of stuff. Then I cut a piece of plywood and covered it in rubber flooring as a rear deck, which allows me to carry even more stuff. And the V6 RAV is insanely powerful for a mid-size crossover. It's fun to pull up next to Porsche Cayennes and blow their doors off. I have no interest in the current RAV4. At 200hp, it's bringing nothing special to the table. And it looks exactly like every other mid-size crossover on the market today. I can't believe Doug said it looks "less generic" than the previous generations. With it's high rear roofline and the rear-mounted space, you could identify a 3rd gen RAV from a mile away. Every mid-size crossover today looks the same. The only thing they did for the 5th gen RAV was square every curve off, trying to make it look more masculine.

The one in this video is a XLE, which I think it really shouldn't have these wheels, they look like they belong on the LE, but Toyota stuck hubcaps on the LE. The XLE Premium and Limited have better looking alloys.
My uncle had a rav 4 from 1996 which had like 200k miles and he gave it to my brother. That thing was such a good and reliable car. Japanese cars are just better than German cars.
Yeah they’re pretty fugly. That and the plastic trim look awful, IMO the outside of a vehicle, everything should be either paint matched, 2-toned, or chrome. No bare plastic it looks like shit. Also I’m not a big fan of roof racks and most people don’t use them besides when they bring home a Christmas tree.
This video won't have as many views as super cars, however, he says nice things about this vehicle, viewers are satisfied for reviewing a regular car (which some of us wanted) and he gets paid from the dealership and makes equal money like he would from the views of a super car. The problem is, I don't find this review honest like I always do with Sofyan and Redline. Not a hater, just pointing out...
No one: Doug Demiro; This car is an AMAZING bargain, one of the best value for money cars ever made. The amount of tech is unbelievable. But it only gets a 9.
Doug is comparing these to collectible cars that are expected to increase in value and luxury cars that have depreciated 90% in a short period due to being no longer fashionable
Never showed all the sides of the car. I guess Toyota told him which was its best side and not to show any other side. I love Doug but let us see the whole car. The original RAV4 was the best looking one and this one is certainly not good looking.
Just took a test drive of both the gas and hybrid versions of the RAV4. The hybrid felt like I was piloting something out of Star Trek. I like how chunky the front end looks on the gas version. I can see where corners are for parking. Yes it looks tank-ish. This is a serious contender as a replacement for my current car. Loved the physical buttons.
Doug is the kind of guy that you could call for help moving a couch. Only to convince you it’ll fit on the roof of your Prius and your route includes a hwy.
47/100 kinda shows you how disconnected reviews are with what people actually need. Other than handling, the RAV4 hits all the responsibilities of a suv perfectly.
Amen. And I'm not even religious. Though I don't 4x4s as long as the owner actually uses it as one. I hate the upmarket 'Chelsea tractors' that either do school runs or ferry round drug dealers. I like an honest 4x4, that is used for purpose.
@The Catmother Huh? I literally don't know anyone who thinks like that, I just like big sedans and they're dying because of the popularity of the compact SUV, thus I dislike the compact SUV. Dunno where you're pulling that "real man" BS from.
Doug, a lot of the reason for splitting the body side outer panel comes from the fact that they don't have to grow their stamping presses if they split it into two. So there's also savings when it comes to tooling as they can extend the life of current presses
@-TheManInDboX - & ilovemanunited Just talking about SUVs the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 will take the Sequoia to gapplebees every time, and is in the same price range. And it's not even the fastest SUV on the market.

I got a 1st generation Rav4 (1999) and it has 176,000 miles and this thing is still going strong! Also, I love the retro look of my Rav4!
It's kind of a shame, the more and more they push in that top of that back end, the less utilitarian it gets. The old school Rav4s were so great because of the versatility of them with the amount of stuff you could fit in the boxy back shape (also looking at you Honda Element!)
Totally agree! As a 2008 Rav4 driver, the more I see the newer Rav4, the more I wonder how much function is being sacrificed for form.

It's probably just me but it looks like it's taken design cues from the GMC Terrain.
