    Just finished serving a dinner of Rajma Masala and Jeera Rice with Grilled croaker fish seasoned with a mix of Curry Powder, and Garam masala and salt (i've been experimenting with that spice mix for a while now, it work) . Everything was delicious but Those Beans were the star of the show. Once again, Thank you Bumbi.

But when I make rajma masala I always add paneer cubes ( earlier I used to add it because my kids n husband love paneer) , but believe me adding paneer to rajma takes it to the next level. I am going to make the pinto bean rajma later tonight, thanks! My chicken turned out to be bad chicken so I had to throw it out so I'm making beans instead for Sunday dinner. That rice looks extremely tasty but I cannot have rice right now as I'm trying to keep it low carb but the beans I can have as I'm only using 1/4 cup and that makes about 1/2 cup after cooking/soaking and is also half fiber. Thanks for this recipe! I'll try the rice the next time I'm taking a carb load day, so maybe in a couple of weeks.

      You definitely can use tinned beans. Personally I do not like to use the liquid in which the beans are soaked in a can. I discard that liquid and give it a quick rinse with fresh water, but this is my personal preference. Other than that the recipe remains the same.

    • @CurriesWithBumbi
      @CurriesWithBumbi  8 месяцев назад +1

      Dry powders when added directly to hot pan has the tendency to burn at times and gives a bitter aftertaste. Adding little water to the spice powder brings in a nice emulsification with oil and there are no chances of burning.

    Hello Bumbi! May I ask how large is your pressure cooker? I am shopping for one and I thought 6L would be a good size, but I thought it would be a good idea to get some advice from my favorite cooking channel first. :)

      5-6 L is best if you do both bulk cooking or if you want to even cook in small portions.

    I think it's really cool how many similarities this dish has to southern American style pintos and cornbread with the cornbread serving as the starch in place of rice

    Could you use lentils instead of beans?

    • @CurriesWithBumbi
      @CurriesWithBumbi  8 месяцев назад +1

      You can use brown/black lentils. Whole moong beans will also be great.

      Yellow daal or masoor or lentils without skin will work great as well. Just drastically cut down the pressure cook time to 5 min otherwise you will be left with mushy paste

    There are two meals that I think I would be happy to eat for the rest of my life. One is pizza, with a little vegan cheese, onions, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives on one half, and green olives on the other half. The other meal is your Rajma Masala on Jeera Rice. (As an Abolitionist vegan, I reject the use of animal products. So instead of ghee, I use avocado or peanut oil that makes it just as mouth watering.)
