- Army’s new Australian-designed Hawkei protected vehicle is ready to enter full-rate production at the Thales Protected Vehicles facility in Bendigo, Victoria.
The Hawkei is a significant enhancement to the existing land capability which will provide superior mobility, survivability and communications while protecting the lives of our soldiers when operating in increasingly lethal and complex environments.
1,100 Hawkei vehicles and 1,058 associated trailers will be delivered, with the full rate production vehicles expected to commence delivery in mid-2021.
Approximately 50 vehicles per month will be manufactured out of the Thales Protected Vehicles facility in Bendigo until mid-2022.
The Hawkei’s production will sustain around 210 jobs in Thales’ workforce in Bendigo, and around 180 additional jobs nation-wide as part of Thales's supply chain.

I see this video was made before they realised they forgot the spare tyre haha
RFIs Standard?
Even the new bushmasters do not have spares anymore, Runflats are the way of the future.
Love the ADF. Small but effective.
We need hundreds of these to defend our country Australia 🇦🇺 and keep Australia in work
they are making 50 per month, I doubt they'll stop after 2 months.
Edit: just searched this up, they are building 1,100 of them. Hundreds already delivered and in use, but apparently few hundreds others are held up and getting rejected by the army, because of issues with their brakes systems making them unsafe to drive.
What are we defending against lol?
Now this is epic
This would also be good to market to Trinidad in a recon config. Even the great Caribbean region. RHD being the key factor. Would be great to know if they can be equipped with a fording kit and how deep they can go.
The entire region and since Jamaica bought the Bushmaster for JDF years ago it would do well as a complementary vehicle.
Except if you get a flat tire..
Has a trailer because the spare wheel was forgotten/left off design implementation... earned that CSC through ‘admin’ before you lost the job hey Linda 😂
Canada are in the process of putting a few Hawkeis under trials with the idea of purchasing as many as 2,500 to replace the existing fleet of Mercedes G-Wagen Light Utility Vehicle Wheeled (LUVW) and Silverado crew-cab trucks for the Canadian Army. With a roof-mounted remote weapon system (RWS) and better armour protection, the Hawkei will be quite a step up, especially for Canada's reserve armoured recce units.
Where's the spare tyre?
Did they solve the spare tyre issue?
Seen them driving around base without the trailer, so maybe
Will these replace the Bushmasters in service with the ADF? Anyways great looking vehicles. The ADF deserve them.
The Bushies are staying, both vehicles fulfill a different role, the Bushmasters are actually going to be upgraded to bring them all up to the same spec, plenty of life left in them yet :)
Complement them.
@@aussienscale
Thank god those things are beasts anyway would be a shame if they were retired out of service
Anyways??? Yo!!
No. It only seats 6
Impressive 👍
So glad that we have something similar to U.S made JLTV.
I think this is the JLTV designed by Oshkosh but possibly built under license, I am guessing. The two vehicles look identical other than name & right hand drive.
That’s bad ass!
looks good mate. Do you have a civilian version of that SUV?
Hell yeah! Want one 😆
I doubt it. There needs to be the demand for it before they’ll consider producing this for civilians.
Should've stuck with the Bushmaster
We have both! the Bushy is getting upgraded to the latest generation. Still the best PMV's on Earth!
@@tiiBBzi You fucken bet they are
So long as it drives better than a Holden.
Leave Holdens out of it, they were a great car in their time & still are. It's just unfortunate the government of the day decided to fuck up our car manufacturing industry and leave us with nothing but to import shit from overseas. 😫😢😡😡😡😡
@@andrewparrott7260 Sorry Andrew didn't mean to annoy you. :)
@@andrewparrott7260 Dude, GM and Ford held our country to ransom... literally, they screwed us because the Gov stopped the economic easing for helping to keep jobs here... even though Australia was still a very profitable country to build in without the handouts (because the amount of vehicles the public and Gov bought off them). It was out of pure spite that the yank companies abandoned us (GOOD OLD OBAMA {THE MAGGOT IN CHEIF} DIDN'T HELP US EITHER!!!)
Mate, the profit driven pos POTUS & CEO's of the companies are to blame. Can't blame our gov for going the decent/ honest route and then getting screwed by multinationals (all the more reason to rally against the multinational bastards!).
At least our nation still kicks 50's in this day and age, against the wind!
The hawkei is impressive I think 1,125 is a nice number I even think the bush master should be kept at those numbers, the lieutenant general has 225 captain an 1,125 sargent, I think it's a nice vehicle for a sargent.
I think integrate them with switchblade launcher that every hawkei should come equiped with a switch blade launcher
Very nice.
Any mine protection
it's wiki page says some will replace the Land Rover. Why? Isn't the G-wagen doing that?
Brilliant 👍
Bout time they started making our own vehicles
Wait so there is no manual control with shielding for the turret’s
Where do they keep the spare wheel?
Run flat.
on the trailer that you have to tow with it
@@darrenreichelt5919 They do not need a spare tyre.
@@bigboy9693 course they need a spare tyre. Grow something between your ears.
@@andymurray9315 As I said a lot are either bullet proof or are run flats , thus eliminating the need to carry a spare, how many cars today have no spare tyre but use run flat tyres. PS, the vehicle has no spare and does not always tow a trailer.
4 years ago they had this same press conference at pukka. its constantly "new"........
It's funny because this looks suspiciously like the British foxhound that went into service a few years ago
Probably is similar, I think most of our equipment comes from the US or England
they've been working on these since 2009
Built ground up from the Bushmaster experience. Long story short, lots of miss haps in the Bushmaster but ended up producing the best PMV on Earth. Yanks dropped it in favour of their own terrible MRAPS in the mid 2000's. Then dropped international alternatives in favour of their new, terrible and *HUGE* JSV, damn....
Looks nothing like it actually. That's like saying a Ford falcon looks suspiciously like a Holden Commodore...
Most of these type of vehicles look similar, just like tanks look similar to other comparable tanks.....but side by side these hawkei's do look different.
When can we expect these things to be rolled out to different units?
Is it produced for civilians version as well?
I hope there is a civilian version of this vehicle to be built I would love to have one
Keep dreaming
@@ridgeydidge4012 you never know with all the big American vehicles starting to come into the country next year with chev and the tundra looking to get in the market it’s only a matter of time so don’t be so negative about it imports like ex military vehicles eventually end up here
NOTHING BETTER TO SAY
@@martywright1829 try to get a rego on a bughetti veyron. Won’t happen
Wonder how it would stack up against Mahindra's LSV.. kudos to Aussies
To be honest, Hawkei is sexy as fcuk. LSV is kinda the opposite.
Why not concider a civilian version like the hummer.
nice one
ARE THE TYRES OF THIS COMBAT VEHICLE THE WEAK LINK.
Unit cost: $1.1 million.
If a country wanted a LEFT SIDE driver version, can it be done?
yes, but the right side drive instruments must all stay installed, and the right side driver must very clearly call out every action he is going to do and have the left driver mimic him exactly. Otherwise the right side instruments will not have any effect.
Straya!
Why would you name a land based vehicle Hawkei? You should have named it something more aussie and relevant.. Ie.. Joey, Wallaby, Wombat, Taipan, Redback,... Give us a shout if ya need a hand..lol
There is a Redback and Taipan. A Haweki is part of the scientific name for a Death Adder.
Put them on the civilian market
I sure hope they make a civilian version, I'd definitely buy it!
Looks good but it’s a terrible vehicle mate has worked closely with them drove them says they are so impractical for maintenance
Can it handle road side bombs?
Bushmaster says it all. Best PMV during the Middle East Wars.
Yes
defense industry stock holders from the land up above have minions of concern for future exports 😂
So a little birdy told me when the roof mounted LMG is firing left to the direction of travel the expended shell casings that eject to the right side of the weapon get caught in the channel of the thick frontal perspex windows and roll down into the vents above the backward facing engine where they become ground into the engine belts, drives, pulleys.... hmmm not the best design...
So put a mesh cover over the vents?
Or a shell catcher bag/box?
Now we just need to make enough to battle China
It's to late after China has already landed a million troops. We need missiles to hit them BEFORE the ships land in the Chinese owned Darwin and Newcastle harbours.
As an Aussie my blood boils a little more for every passing month that we don't send 90 of these to Ukraine for their front lines.
agreed
The 60 or so bushmasters that we've sent havent been enough?
500 sitting in storage in bendigo ready for sale
What about export potential? the Aussie taxpayer has pumped plenty of money into this vehicle over the last decade.
They have been trying with only nibbles so far, biggest potential so far is Poland were it recently qualified to enter competition along with 3 other vehicles, 2 being polish and 1 being french
That is up to the French Government
@@alanbstard4 oh god, help us all!
@@mrcookiethief2128 Shame they don't take the lessons of the Middle East War into account... else they'd all be lining up for the next gen Aussie PMV!
@@tiiBBzi lol indeed
Hauwei for 5 grand?, yeah they already took three or four of my cars, then bashed me with sticks and bottles
Let's send some to Ukraine and we will be able to get some valuable feedback and we will have a battle-hardened vehicle that will have a huge export potential!
MRAP and bushmaster combined
Give one of these to every Australian male no more trouble with the Chinese
so long as mine comes with somthing like a 25mm autocannon and a shit ton of ammo. maybbe a couple of stingers to boot.
Ooh looks like a MAT-V but with even worse line of sight. Can't imagine what the hull is built like or how well those doors stay shut in a blast. Feel bad for those whom have to drive around in that. Great against rifles but ..... oyh.
The wars we will face in the future are going to be horrific, and I would hate to be sitting in that rolling into a fight.
Bushmaster is good enough for IED, this thing is even better
PS ARE THOSE TYRES ARMOURED ON THE SIDE WALL AS THAT IS THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS TO SHOOT AND DESTROY THE TYRES IF NOT THE VEHICLE IS USELESS IN PROPER COMBAT HMMMMMM.
It's a P.O.S.. Very cramped to work in. Poor visibility out of.
Really and how many have you driven in General
@@DeepseaSteve It looks exactly if not is exactly a JLTV..Cramped and poor visibility....Actually I'm pretty sure it's a rebranded JLTV
She looks like Angela Merkel

Please, Give to Ukraine!!!
A well placed sniper can take out all the outgrowth on top of the vehicle…basically blinding it…🤔
Oh look! A COD general.
He's Arse would be toast if he tried
Its not the movies
Old China
Every country uses remote gun systems. We used them for over 20 yrs against a very determined enemy. Never saw enemy or enemy snipers target it. Possible? Of course, but not in my 3 yrs of combat. I'd be more concerned with people throwing rocks hit the optic
yay more war crimes we can commit
