"Mason was a friend of guitarist Jimi Hendrix, whose rock career was launched in England in 1966. Hendrix first heard the song "All Along the Watchtower", from Bob Dylan's album John Wesley Harding, with Mason at the apartment of a friend who had acquired a prior release of the album. Hendrix recorded his own version at Olympic Studios, South West London, with Mason playing 12-string acoustic guitar."
So Let's leave it alone 'cause we can't see eye to eye there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy there's just you and me and we just disagree. Amazing lyrics... Makes you think about where you've been in life and where you are headed. Its just how life goes sometimes. We've grown up differently... Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I disagree that there ain't no bad guy. The bad guy is the Bad Boy that she left him for....lol! The dude in the song is trying to make sense of what happened. He thought he'd found his ONE & ONLY, but to her it was just a temporary thing or fling until she could find someone better or more exciting! Men are so dumb with women. They're like little lovelorn puppies...lol!
This is one of my favorite songs ever. But it has nothing to do with the lyrics. This came out when i was 5 years old and i heard it on the radio constantly. It always takes me right back to being a kid again and i love it every time i hear it. I got to see Dave Mason play a small club as a member of the version of Fleetwood Mac that was touring around '93/'94.
This song also reminds me of my childhood, but watching this video again is like hearing it for the first time and understanding the lyrics. Although, I couldn't tell you who Dave Mason was until a month ago. Lol
I remember the Midnight Special as a kid growing up in the 70’s. It was one of the greatest places to see amazing bands playing live. That and Don Kirshner’s rock concerts were something I looked forward to on the weekends. Love this song. Very beautiful lyrics. Not at all a sappy love song. Very real and genuine.
I met Dave Mason in the late '80's in Austin. He was playing at Antones back when Clifford Antone was still alive. We were really early standing outside in front of the door, and we could hear him warm up with this song. He came out to smoke a cigarette and chatted with us for about 20 minutes. Really easy going guy. Of course by that time he'd been gigging for about 25 years, so I'm sure he'd done that a thousand times. I think he came out the front door to smoke instead of backstage just so he could talk to fans.
Saved me the trouble of looking that up. Gerald Johnson looks a lot like the bass player in Steve Miller band video this channel released. Its hard to tell because the camera really ignores the band and has a lot of close ups on Dave. I'm not even sure who is harmonizing, I assume the guitar player, but you never see his face. I'd guess they didn't have the budget for more camera angles.
I saw a concert movie of Dave and Jim Krueger doing an acoustic show from 1981. I think it was just the two of them? Maybe the one you saw only had the two of them?
@@gregoryduncan3067 It was just him and another guy. It could have been. Strangely, he opened for The Monkees. It was one of their reunion tours in late 80s. Steppenwolf played second, then The Monkees. Great show though.
Yet another Dave Mason masterpiece. And that ringing acoustic guitar & the hard hitting lyrics. No wonder Bob Dylan chose to cover it. "There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy. There's just you & me & we just choose to disagree" ! Wow !
Watching this Dave Mason performance on "The Midnight Special" was the reason my wife and I made sure to see his concert at Bowling Green State U. in the spring of 1978. What an incredible triple-threat artist -- singer/songwriter/guitarist.
The writer of this song, Jim Krueger is playing the acoustic and singing background vocals along with my pal Mike Finnigan on organ and vocals. Both are, sadly, gone. All hail Finns and Jim Krueger!
Great song and performance by this underrated songwriter. Would love see the other song he performed on this MS episode in 1977 "Let It Go, Let It Flow". He also was a guest host and performed 8 songs (including "Feelin' Alright" from his Traffic days) on the MS, Feb.07, 1975 Season 3, Ep.20. Please post some more Dave Mason songs from the Midnight Special. Thanks in advance.
Beautiful harmony in this song - something completely absent in modern pop music for years. I can't say that even in the 70s it would have seemed like a good idea to paint all of our amps and a Hammond B-3 powder blue....
Not was he just a friend of Hendricks Dave Mason also brought in a sitar at the axis bold as love sessions but Hendrix couldn't gel with. Dave Mason plays an acoustic 12-string on All along the watchtower. Dave Mason and Steve winwood also sing backups on easy Rider. Hendricks really Dug traffic
kind of off topic right now. new to this channel. I remember the midnight special when i was a teenager. I'm sure there are more episodes to be added. I'm interested in seeing the 2 part one with Deep Purple again. Or was it on Don Kirshner's rock concert series
Grew up hearing this at like 5 or 6 years old in the late 70s , used to ask my oldest brother to put Dave Mason Let It Flow record on the turntable and play We just disagree. We don't talk due to too many disagreements.
Beautiful song, talented artist; what a shame he couldn't co-exist with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood- what an incredible legacy they might have left, even beyond that they already created. Such is life though- this song fits that dynamic perfectly- I have to wonder if Jim Krueger was thinking of that when he wrote this song.
That follow-up hit for an artist is very important. If you don't get that the wrecker company starts getting up your ass. Dave should have had many hits because he is so talented. 🙏
Superstar was never in the cards for Mason. He was riding a wave of moderate popularity the entire decade of the 70s. Yet this great song did not even reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. He was in his 30s at this point (a bit old to be able to achieve superstar status) and did not have the "look" to sustain that level of interest. He did have a nice single release on his next album which crawled barely into the top 40 (probably the best version of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" ever released). But radio was favoring disco at the time, so opportunities were limited.
Sadly I was at my darkest moment during this record. So deeply into drugs I don’t recall the name of the cassette” in the 1980s.one messed up young lady.i had terrible memories occur to me which, I don’t want unlike other chicks put out there, enough, Nearly died many times…DONT DO DRUGS KIDDOS
It's basically a song about another dude getting dumped by a woman....lol! The dude's trying to make sense of it, while the woman has already moved down the line to 2 or 3 other dudes...lol!
Total appreciation for all the folks at The Midnight Special who are sharing this incredible music with us! Can’t thank you Al enough!
One of the most underrated songs of all time.
Wish I could give a 100 thumbs up to this comment
The 1970s were a golden cornucopia of musical goodness
They way they harmonize is incredible.

thanks for the info
@@themidnightspecialtvshow yeaaa, that boomy 12-string in the intro - hadn't thought about it before
And keyboardist Mike Finnigan also played on the Electric Lady Land album.
I was going to add, Jim Krueger, who wrote this song, is playing guitar to the side.
So Let's leave it alone
'cause we can't see eye to eye there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy

I love this song! So nice to see the performance in HD.
Such a beautiful song. But why oh why does it always make me cry cry cry..😌
Memories + heart
😔🖋Those lyrics:
Every phrase is so very touching...
It's about breaking up.
Same. ❤felt memories
Pain of loss.

Simply a classic.
Great live performance of a great song !
Still listening here in Ireland ☘️, 2024. A classic.

Rick Jaeger on Drums, Jim Kreuger on Gtr, Mike Finnegan on Organ and Gerald Johnson on Bass. ... amazing band.

Thank you mr Sugarman !
those harmonies are SPOT-ON
Awesome!!
A great song by Dave! Saw him live once in the 80s. All acoustic. Was a great set!

I saw him in 1977 also all acoustic but with his whole band. Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. Jennifer Warnes was opening act.
@@bradsense7431 Oh nice! I like her, too.

That was great!! Able to produce album quality music- LIVE!! No auto tune or trickery.

One of my faves from Dave Mason, also his original version of Only You Know And I Know.
The writer of this song, Jim Krueger is playing the acoustic and singing background vocals along with my pal Mike Finnigan on organ and vocals. Both are, sadly, gone. All hail Finns and Jim Krueger!
Such a melancholic song
Stunning.
Gerald Johnson on bass. He's a beast playing with Dave, Steve Miller, CSNY and many more.
Hey I thought that Turner guy played bass for Steve Miller 🙋
Great song. Great performance. 👍🏻
Dave Masons All Along The Watchtower is hands down the best version of this classic song..Seen his tour in Nashvile for the album.
RIP Mike Finnegan on keys .. badass who also recorded with Hendrix
One of my dad’s favorite songs.
So, so good. Thank you Midnight Special. 🙏😊
Just fantastic

Wow, I knew I liked this song, but I had forgotten just how great it is.
Wish everyone could follow the message of this song.
His best song. Thanks for uploading this one.

LMFAO. It looked good at the time. We had some good drugs then. I think I wore platform shoes and clothes that color sometimes.
I think that’s the lighting making them appear blue…
Love this song,heartbreaking...
Love Dave Mason. Have had the privilege of seeing him 2x's. Always phenomenal.!

This was one of my favorite songs when I was about eleven years old.
I stop whatever I'm doing to listen this amazing man and his music!
I can listen to his music 25/8!
THIS is One INCREDIBLE "Break Up" Song that helps emphasize the IMPORTANCE of a Healthy Ending to what was Once Good....
AWESOME TUNE!

Brilliant! Thank you TMS!
I was born in '76 and I remember this one. They used to play this on the radio like the 🌎 was going to end tomorrow.
Lol! I didn't see this earlier. True though. Was played a lot.
It certainly was.

At this moment in time, it looked for all the world like Mason was gonna be a superstar. The follow-up hit never came.

Great song! He reminds me of general Zod though! Kneel before Zod!
