    Over a year ago, I deleted every social media app from my phone, including RUclips. For a while, I only used my phone to listen to music and text people, but I still felt oddly tethered to the internet, as if I hadn’t really freed myself. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago, during a vacation, that I experienced what it was like to have no phone at all and be free again like when we were 8 years old. The difference was actually insane - everything felt more like I'm actually there and experiencing it and of course more fun compared to when I had my phone, even though I don't have any distracting apps on my phone. This made me realize there’s even a significant difference between having a phone with no social media and not having a phone at all and I think that everyone who has no social media on there phone and doesn't really need it 100% just leaves it at home when doing something with friends etc. Sadly we now use our phone for train tickets etc so that's an issue but I urge everyone to try doing something fun without their phone for once.

      And not taking pictures for me is a problem. I'm always thinking: should I take photo of this great moment to go back for it later. I'm 33 but I starting to forget some moments of my life, so for me it's better to take 3-5 photos

    • @reazn.999
      @reazn.999 Месяц назад +72

      @@Anvar2308 I'm 16 so I don't that much life experience but I always hated taking pictures for the sake of memory and never did so. I felt like I should focus on the moment and enjoy the moment rather than taking pictures of it.
      In 2024 however I tried taking more pictures especially when I was doing stuff alone since my parents or friends always took pictures for the sake of memory so I just got their pictures and I gotta admit it felt nice to scroll through my photo library and 'relive' the moments BUT I also think its sometimes more important to live in the moment and not take a picture. (In my opinion the experience stays in your mind for longer if you focus 100% on enjoying the thing and knowing you don't have it 'backed up' in your photos so you actually gotta tell your brain to remember it.
      But yeah I definitely see why some people need a phone in their life and I understand them yet I think that everyone has the circumstances where they can go phoneless for a day or week in order to 'experience' fucking life again.

      It's a cheat code. Enjoy it. As shall I.
      Sometimes I wonder if I should even tell people about my hidden life hack (no more casual phone/social media usage). Perhaps it's better that everyone else numb their brains into mush, so that I can reign supreme.
      I'm joking of course, but it is an interesting thought. The competition remains low for people who don't use their phones/socials in contrast to those who do. It's a cheat code to life. Mental clarity. More energy. More sociable. Better attention span. Better sleep. Better everything.

    • @AXALMA
      @AXALMA 29 дней назад

      @@Elle111L For me it was all just about 2 things I'm not the guy that commented but I also did it a while back and can only say the same. For me, I had tried and failed many times, and the two things that finally made it work (and actually stay consistent for weeks and months) were:
      1. Completely locking yourself out of all the apps and websites, to a degree that seems a bit crazy. Put an Apple screen time of 1 minute on all the bad apps and websites, then change the passcode for Screen time so you can't give yourself extra time (I'm not sure how, but for me the "15 more minutes" option didn't show up anymore). If you want to go even further change your Apple ID password so you can't even get a back up passcode even if you try, hell, you can even change your email password so that, if you wanted to go down all of the layers of changing passwords, it would take so long / be so annoying that you will realise you don't even really WANT to get back on social media.
      Extra: Even more extreme, I found out the company that makes my WiFi router has a setting where you can block websites on specific devices. So, for example, if I tried to go on instagram.com it literally can't load because I told my router to not let that device load that website. You can check if something similar exists for your router / internet service. After that, of course, I also changed my password for the router company website without saving the new password, so that if I wanted to get back in I would have to request a password change lol.
      2. This one is shorter, I promise: Give yourself stuff to focus on. Reading, studying, learning an instrument, exercising, learning new skills, doing cool activities with friends or making new friends... if your idea of "dopamine detox" is to sit around all day, of course you're gonna be bored and want to go back to scrolling. But if you take time to go at life more calmly and try some of the things I listed, after an adjustment period of 3-7 days you'll start to enjoy your "new life" and find that it actually makes you much happier than being on social media.
      This was much longer than expected but it's such an important topic, feel free to ask questions :)

    It's far more comfortable than being present with our emotions.
    I belive we aren't bored with day to day reality, but rather that we're overwhelmed by it. This is because we haven't proccessed our thoughts and emotions. We suppress any feeling we were taught not to approve of.

    Get rid of your phone. Yes, you. It isn't content addiction, its internet addiction. SO many of us have become completely sabotaged by the stream of unending internet videos and posts, its become so engrained in our lives that many of us forget what life is like without them. I got rid of my phone a couple of weeks ago, using the internet only on a public computer as I'm using right now, and it has 100% improved my life for the better. I legitimately feel better. By being so glued to my phone, and lemme tell you it's super super addicting, I was spending somewhere around 5-6 hours a day just watching nothing videos. Something else i realized after i made the switch is how addicting phones are due to their design. When you are on shorts or something, you probably have your phone right up in front of your face and blocking your view otherwise. On a screen, shorts are not even addicting because of the giant white blank space around them, and in short i don't have my entire focus on that one section completely. All in all, you are probably wasting your life significantly by having a smartphone, and believe me, i tried to limit my use on it using all the tricks and methods, and none of them work. Its like having a crack pipe in your house and wrapping it in bubble wrap and putting it in cardboard boxes, swearing you'll use it less, only to rip through it and go right to smoking. Its a literal dopamine addiction and unless you get rid of it you'll be stuck with it forever guaranteed. We as people shouldn't have that kind of technology so often as its very unhealthy for our mental health and for the state of our lives.

To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. As a somewhat of a content creator on this platform myself. I try to make things as authentic as I could. Not to mention keeping a balance within my lifestyle as well.
    I think the problem with content addiction is that some creators brand out themselves in a way that can provoke people in a way to feel stupid not to click on their content, I don’t always like this but it works… which is what I could see being a bit problematic.
    But that’s just my opinion. If people like my own content, that’s great. But as long as don’t become too addicted to a point where they become distracted in their life, I can live with that. 👍

    I often see toddlers who are heavily addicted to phones… I’m volunteering in a little town where people live in extreme poverty and I see their babies on the floor on TikTok scrolling through for hours and once the parents try to get the phone back, the babies go absolutely mental, like they’re being tortured or something. So the parents give up and let them continue. I’ve seen even indigenous people living like this… it’s terrifying 😰

    This is possibly one of the most genuine videos simply because he includes himself in what not to consume. Most creators would push a message like this but at the same time incentivizing viewers to continue watching their content. The fact that the mission of this video is more important to the creator shows how big of a deal this is; this isn't a grab for attention. Rather, this is a call to a generation steadily (and increasing in speed) barreling down into a cripplingly addicted future

    As a Millenial I will say the turning point for all this (at least for nerds) was way earlier than 2007. When I was a little kid in the early/mid 90’s, we were chasing the same highs off of GameBoy, Pokemon cards, Tomagachi, Furby, Xbox, AIM (instant messenger).
    The main difference is all of these things have been boiled down to their base levels and put into cell phones.

    When I was in a military camp for adults, I lived without my phone for 14 days as it would not be convenient to bring it with myself to all the activities. Everyone did the same as we were busy all day from 6am to 12pm. It was like travelling back in time and I met a lot of great people and got so many great memories, it was so refreshing.
    It was also refreshing to hear music played on a phone from the boys' room on the last day when we got time to chill before we went back to the outside world.

    After a few years of scrolling on tiktok religiously, I realised I felt very little from it. Maybe some actual joy from a song or audio and edits- but most of the scrolling was pointless. Quite frankly it felt shit. I felt shit. Spending hours scrolling away feeling nothing from any of it. I was fortunate that many months before I had picked up reading, and had let it consume me and become a tradition. I'm now holding myself back from short form content, limiting and monitoring my intake. I found I feel more fulfilled putting my attention in one area, in things like books. Afterwards I feel alot better from spending hours on a book rather than on a screen. The full-length stories with detail take me away, my escape. It just feels so fulfilling. And to know I'm being healthy to my mind aswell as well as skill building. Its those extra things that just makes it for me

    Slowly and over the course of a few months I have been deleting apps on my phone. Any app I would jump on absentmindedly, any app where I was just scrolling for no real reason, I deleted. And slowly, I noticed, I just… stopped using my phone. At first, I would open my phone and stare at it. Stare at my home screen, swipe around, look at the apps. I guess my brain realized nothing was coming out of it, and I didn’t open my phone anymore. This was especially big for me, because I have ADHD and people with this condition are so much more susceptible to addiction. Now when I’m bored, I might play my favorite song, read a book, or just sit and think. It’s a journey that I’m still on but has been so rewarding.
