      You do know that W10 has two totally different UI, right? The tablet UI works pretty much the same as the iPad, especially since Apple copied the multitasking feature since the Surface had it three years earlier. You navigate with swipe gestures, swip up to open the taskbar, swipe from the left to open backgrounded apps, swipe from the top to close an app or open multitasking and swipe from the right to open the notification center. See here ruclips.net/video/08hW7aWvTKk/видео.html

    Here’s where I’m coming from:
    I grew up with Windows. I got a 4th gen iPad as a laptop replacement in late 2012, and that was my first Apple device. I’ve never looked back. You refer to iPad as a consumptive device, but I DJ, compose music, make essays, presentations and solve math problems on iPad all day long, even without the hardware keyboard. I recently ditched Microsoft Office entirely for Apple Notes, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and a third party app called Notability. They all sync over iCloud, and are ready to edit on my Mac when I get home. When forced by a group, I use Google Docs and Slides. My iPad automatically backs itself up to iCloud. iCloud Keychain manages all my passwords. When I buy music on iTunes on any device, it downloads immediately on my iPad, ready to DJ. I get all my apps from the App Store, and hardly ever get interrupted for an update. My device has a 120 Hz display and runs smoother, faster and more reliably than Surface could hope to compete with. I’m visually impaired, and the vision accommodations built into iOS are simply years ahead of Windows. You’re right that the fight between iPad and Windows is all about software. You’re simply advocating for features, rather than benefits, and missing what makes iPad such a better choice.
    On the other hand, what is wrong with Windows right now?! “Windows as a service” is so horrible! It’s getting ads in every nook and cranny, now including the lock screen, start menu and Mail app. It’s still interrupting users for updates all the time, especially when we use software outside of the Windows Store or shut down our PCs at night. It’s serving average users with unstable software, deleting people’s files and revoking licenses. It harasses users constantly for choosing to use third-party alternatives to Microsoft software, even if Microsoft software, like Edge, isn’t capable of doing what the user needs.It feels like Windows has a new problem come to light every week, and you just have to pray it doesn’t take you offline, or spend hours trying to recover.
    So of course, to get away from all that crap, to the Touch interface utopia, is a rare treat, unmatched in the power, benefits and peace of mind it provides. So when I see a comparison between iPad and Surface, I also find it unfair, but they opposite way you see it.

    Imagine iPad Pro running Windows 10, 3 USB Thunderbolt 3 ports, and 2G Cellular call & SMS support. That's something I'll definitely buy. Mobile OS like iOS can never replace a full fledge desktop OS where I can actually get stuff done. The easiest argument in my use case, is Windows 10 have more 3rd party USB / Bluetooth accessories driver support.

    • @Reg3e
      @Reg3e 5 лет назад +2

      @Pojosamaneo true, my goal is to have a device that replace both my Win10 Ultraportable and Android Smartphone (which I hardly use aside from call + SMS for authentication). I have a desktop Win10 PC, but I still want a portable Win10 system that I can carry around, might as well able to make calls and SMS too. I hopes on Microsoft Andromeda.

    • @Reg3e
      @Reg3e 5 лет назад +5

      @Jonathan Cesari That's your opinion anyway, what I've describe is exactly what I want my device to do. Why carry two device in my satchel when I can just carry one. As Dan describe in one of the previous episode, the device should fit your lifestyle, not the other way round. I've already pointed out that I barely use my phone aside from call + SMS. So it would be nice that my Win10 Ultraportable or Tablet can do just that, so I can completely omit out the phone from my every day carry.

  • @JB_Hobbies
    @JB_Hobbies 5 лет назад +4

    The Surface design team did a great job designing a beautiful device. Not only that, but the main device and all its accessories all flow using the same design language, which is very nice. I would not take any points away from Microsoft on that front. I think that what makes the iPad stand out aesthetically is its aspect ratio. It's a little taller in landscape mode--which I agree looks nice. If surface were to ever to adopt an even more squared-off aspect ratio, the design team would need to consider how that would impact the balancing of the Surface on a lap. As it is currently, the Surface is "lappable", but it isn't comfortable. Squaring it off would only add to that discomfort--but it would also add to its beauty. Sooooo, hard to say. Either way, I think that both devices are comparable in looks, and it comes down to individual preferences at this point. As far as actual computing usability though, I totally agree that the iPad can't hold a candle to the Surface. The iPad is designed as a toy first, and tool second. On the other hand the Surface is designed as a tool first with the skin of a toy.

    Surface Pro offers Photoshop and all the art software that runs on PC, but is its hardware good enough to handle, is the price for the Adobe software worth this investment? The monthly fee is anything but cheap.

    You are absolutely right and your reasoning is spot on -- the iPad Pro IS NOT A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP REPLACEMENT! The lack of mouse/trackpad support, the crappy file system, lack of windows (not the OS) support, and poor external device support make the iPad more of an expensive toy than a real computer. Let's not forget the lack of support for real (not mobile) desktop apps.
    You are also right that Apple is doing this to themselves. I own a Note 9 and I decided to give Samsung DeX a try. I was expecting a crappy, half-baked user experience. Instead, I ended up using DeX the entire afternoon. Android has ALWAYS had better mouse and file system support than iOS, and DeX added a Windows like desktop environment that is easy to use. Linux on DeX makes the experience even better. If Samsung can do this with their tablets and phones why can't Apple?

I had the first gen had pro but will be picking the 11 inch pro soon. The iPad pro to me being a dedicated take it just performs as such much more effortlessly with no judder or latency. crazyx3s Honestly both will be supported for years. Apple and Microsoft are great when it comes to updates and security updates. Look at Windows XP and how long that was supported by Microsoft. The iPad pro though again is a perfect tablet for note taking and drawing. The surface is a great two in one but a better computer since it has a full blown desktop OS. It's just okay when it comes to note taking and drawing. If you plan on using the iPad for anything more than note taking, drawing and multimedia get the surface. The thing is the iPad Even the non pro models will feel faster than the surface Go. If you must get a surface them get the Go with 8GB of ram or get the current surface pro 6 while it's on sale. The i5 quad core with 8GB with the keyboard which is only $800 right now.

    The one thing iPadOS has over Windows 10 is it feels more like a tablet operating system. Part of that is gestures. Windows 10 has far, far better multitasking, though, because it's a lot more powerful--four applications can be on-screen at the same time--, it's far more flexible because of windows, and it's easier: there's no second application needed to be found; all that needs to be done is drag a window to the side or a corner of the screen. It was a bit finicky with touch before, but thanks to the new Tablet Mode properly released with 20H2, this operation is a breeze with touch. IPadOS still has gestures, though, but wait until Sun Valley...supposedly gesture support will be added to touchscreens. When that happens, Windows 10 will have one final piece of the puzzle to be a true jack-of-all-trades tablet operating system.

    hello Danielle first of all thank you for your video it was very well made and I have a question to you I hope your answer will help me to make a decision what to choose what to buy. From one side i am considering to buy iPad Pro 2018 11 inch but the same time I realize that there are a lot of limitations about system about software yes of course 1 months ago or two months ago they introduced iPad OS specifically for iPads when they finally allowe to connect external hard drive but in general it still very limited product yes of course the screen is very beautiful colors, very optimized apps but as a professional photographer like me can't use these machines potential on hundred percent, at the same time we have a Surface Pro Line option and I am glad that I am able to connect my camera tethered to the surface and use this machine as a laptop to watch my pictures and show pictures to my clients it is all great but the confusion comes when you know that a lot of professionals a lot of experts says that when you want to Lightroom work smoothly you need at least 16 gigabytes of RAM. so my question is is Microsoft Surface Pro 4 5 6 and 7 powerful enough to almost allow you to replace your laptop to use it as a working machine in your professional work to edit your photos in a Adobe lightroom or in the Capture One or honestly is it not powerful enough so you have to buy really powerful laptop to use it

    Personally I still love mobile OS tablets - I have one as a companion to my Surface Pro. I can read on it for days and save my Surface's battery. The big, big difference is, I bought it for about $400 and it has an amazing OLED screen, and I bought it years and years ago and it works just as well now as it did then. The "upgrades" Apple is offering aren't. They're huge rip-offs. And people were complaining about the Galaxy Tab S4 being $650 ... give me a break. People are giving Apple hundreds of extra dollars because it has the shiniest logo. Completely stupid. Samsung has the absolute best pen experience, BTW, it's not even close.

    I agree that the iPad is a beautiful piece of hardware, and with the argument that they may set the bar for Microsoft users to ask on our side for improvements, but I don't think the Surface (any latest Surface) is lacking design wise. Rather I think the surface lineup is already setting the bar for all manufacturers of Windows 10 devices, that is, the Surface line-up are prolly the best windows 10 devices out there. Hence, Apple should take notice from Microsoft in some departments, as Microsoft should take notice of Apple in some others.

    • @namelessanonymous2090
      @namelessanonymous2090 5 лет назад

      Michelle Simmons The battery issues that you've listed happen with any device. This isn't something completely new, nor endemic to Microsoft devices. Apple has had the same issue with their Macbooks and IOS devices. Heck, even portable consoles, like the Switch, have these issues. The thing is that li-ion and li-po batteries are very crappy devices in terms of durability. They deteriorate very quickly, especially if not used properly, left in extreme temperatures, or charged with a defective charger.
      Most of these battery will last a year or two, but if you really care a lot about your device's battery, it can last much longer. For example, my old Acer netbook's battery only lasted for 2 years. During the second year, I used a different charger for it, and always charged it when it was at 70%. On the other hand, my almost 6 old iPad Mini's battery is still alive and kicking, although with a slightly reduced capacity, which is to be expected for such an ancient battery by li-po standards. I also recommend not using your device while charging, this causes heat, which is not good for your battery (heat is what causes bloating). Don't let it discharge completely either. This also hurts the battery life as well. Try charging it when it's at 30-40%, and unplugging it before or after it reaches 100%.
      As for the warranty thing, Microsoft only provides 90 days of tech support that only cover hardware defects. Age related battery issues don't start to become an problem after a year or more, so unless it happens within a month or two of getting the device, this warranty is completely useless. Now, yes, it is possible to get a device with a defective battery/charger right out of the box, but that's what the warranty is for. I don't think this is actually a widespread issue for the Surface line, though.

    Thank you, this distinction needs to be made. The Surface is essentially a ultra portable pc that can double up as a tablet (rather poorly imo). The iPad Pro on the other hand is a luxury tablet with amazing hardware and competition crushing capabilities, nestled within a very well-functioning ecosystem and with a great selection of apps available. Use case should determine what one chooses to buy. For me, the iPad Pro is perfect. For others, the Surface will undoubtedly be the superior device.

    I love my iPad Pro, but I would've gotten a Surface Pro instead if they simply added Thunderbolt 3, so I could use a eGPU for Video Editing and Gaming. But since it doesn't, I never got one, because I don't really need a portable Windows PC. Bottom line, I simply needed a creative tool/tablet, and honestly the iPad Pro 10.5 was cheaper than a low spec Surface Pro, with a better optimized touch experience. Whereas the Surface Pro, though uses a tablet mode, hasn't gotten good reviews when it comes to the touch experience. It's more of a Windows Laptop that can be a tablet. And I don't need a Windows Laptop. But I always loved the idea of one device that rules them all. A device that can be tablet, laptop, and a powerful gaming/productivity desktop when paired to an eGPU. All it needed was Thunderbolt 3 to complete the package, but it never happened. And because of that, egpu's on Windows has never been as good as it could compare to what we're getting with Apple right now. And if I'm spending a lot to high spec the device, I want it to be a device that can replace my desktop, and be future proof. I really, really wish Microsoft added it. If they did 3 years ago, I would be a Windows user by now.

    Apple really shouldn't compare the iPad to PCs until they pretty much make one that runs MacOS. If they compare it to laptops, people will hold it to those standards, and complain when the iPad doesn't meet them. People use PCs instead of tablets for a reason, and the iPad's mobile OS probably won't cut it for a lot of laptop users.
    That said, it does seem like it would be good for what I personally want (drawing and a bit of media consumption), especially with the upcoming iPadOS. It may even end up mostly replacing my PC if I get one since I don't use my PC for much else except a bit of gaming.

    I've owned a couple ipads and a couple Surfaces. The problem with the Surface is it's barely a tablet. The tablet experience just isn't good because of lack of touch optimization. Even a 100 dollar Android tablet is a better experience. So you end up keeping your keyboard folio attached all the time so you can use it as a laptop. But if that's the case, why not just buy an actual laptop??
    All Microsoft has to do is get the touch experience at least as good as on an Android tablet, and I will agree with all the people saying Surface is better.
