Have you noticed how freight traffic patterns on the railroad change over time when looking back through old footage of your favorite spots? The UP Spine line in MN where I grew up used to see lots of unit coal trains, now its mostly manifest freight, grain, and just starting to see more containers over the past few years.
I get about 20-30 of those a day here but it’s interesting to see how different the power is on the east coast. Here nothing but GEVOS, ACes and MACs, there only ES44AC GEVOS and -9s!
Have you ever filmed a coal train and got covered in coal dust? It happened to me a week or so ago. We don't get many coal trains anymore but I got one that was flying and coal dust made it look like a tornado going through. Wondering if you ever had that happen
I watched that video, man that was crazy, so much coal dust, you had to head to McDonalds and get cleaned up. I have been watching coal trains go past my house for years, I've never seen anything like that. That was a great video Jawtooth!
I always love the "working class" trains. Maybe it's the ruggedness. Great video & quality video! Love the twilight views. You have good people recording for you? 🙏 Thanks Mike
Awesome footage. These trains are gunna be nice to model, since they're all the same car. These videos once again prove to be excellent model railroading reference. Thank you.
From the cowboys in Oklahoma, we dig coal out of our land and load it into U P trains headed to Houston to get loaded on the big ships. We than buldoze it back flat plant grass and let cows eat it. Thanks the Shufflebotham's
Hi CF2105, I have questions: 1. Have you ever prefer to not record trains and just see them up close? 2. Did you have train recordings that you didn’t like?
Great Coal photography even if it's not politically correct! Btw, don't forget grain...BNSF stock is way up due to this commodity. Also, what camera system do you use in your video & still photography?
Include this in the future Diesel Trains Galore 3! Also can you tell me why do freight trains still carry coal in large parts when steam engines are not running anymore?
Coal trains have always been some of my favorite trains Mike! Great footage as usual man! :)
Superb photography, Mike. Thanks!
Pretty cool video of the BNSF Coal Trains. I’m going to be visiting the Niles Canyon Railway soon.

In Canada after the load of coal they spray on it two layer of mixture of polymer and water in order to prevent dust flow out of the hoppers.
Fantastic video

The ground seems to be shaking, is it because of the soft ground?
Great video
