1. My favourite 3:05, it ended up making the train out of Piedmont ( the Piedmont location is North Carolina) the pacific Surfliner 2) The EMD F59PHI we're in storage but remained in service[ about in the coaster commuter in North county transit city district ]
It's derived from a diesel railcar that's made for branch line use in Europe. Germany, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece have them.
Outstanding presentation ! Nothing missed. Excellent camera spots and mercifully, no ragged zoom efforts. Well done - and thank you. I enjoyed every minute !
Sweet shots! MTS is apparently retiring the Siemens SD100s (middle car on the S70s) at the moment. Will you be doing a farewell compilation video of them just like you did with the Duewag U2s?
Great memories. Remember my first trip to San Diego and being blown away seeing people with their beach chairs, etc waiting patiently to cross tracks to beach.San Diego sta. Is a beauty.
The new swoopy aerodynamic locos are cool, but I always like how the cab cars look super intimidating like a moving wall haha. I haven't been paying much attention to trains recently, have they phased out the P42? I use to see those all the time on the Pacific Surfliner.
Since they are still running Surfliner trains on a reduced schedule, they don’t need as many locomotives, so the P42s have all been returned to Amtrak for now. Thanks for watching!
I wanted to say that my 2-year-old son really loves all your train videos of what we have watched so far. He gets all excited watching the trains you capture on video. Even enjoys your few toy train videos, which he gets more excited watching your stuff compared to cartoon stuff like “Thomas & Friends”. He has gone through a lot this past year and your videos have really brought out his super excited side!! Thank you very much for your videos.
Wow! I used to watch the trains coming in and out of Oceanside. Brings back a lot of memories of all of San Diego. Also would see them going through Camp Pendleton.
I think it is a great video to I started watching the channel on November 2017 and my favorite video on the channel is tons of trains came out in 2015 I thank the video to I think it is a nice video to
Really excited for the midcoast expansion. I'm sure you'll get some good shots when it's in regular service. I often ride the bike trail between old town and UCSD and love to see the coaster/surfliner pass by.
Some really great shots here! It’s hard to believe much has changed from when I started railfanning back in 2013. Although I’m not on the Surfline as much anymore, it’s still great to see all the upgrades as I know I would have better rides that are waiting to come.
You have comments turned off on your “toy train” videos but I just wanted to let you know my 3yo loves them immensely. He’s definitely a future “rail fan” and he plays all day in his train sets and says “ohh DEEEER!” Haha thank you for your quality videos
Very Nice new look coaster train in first clip and soo cool Place! And ilove the all livery of usa trains me my feature is riding in passenger trains and i want train spotting in america but a im in philippines very nice capture sir mike!! 😀😁😎👍👍👏
Awesome Mike! I’d love to see a video where you spend a day railfanning somewhere on the Metrolink Inland Empire line, say Santa Ana, Riverside La Sierra, or Anaheim Canyon
Not sure what you mean, but they are probably to activate the Automatic Train Stop equipment. Amtrak runs at 90 MPH between Oceanside and San Clemente, and the line speed is 90 MPH from Del Mar on north. FRA requires ATS for speeds higher than 79 MPH.
Great video Mike but I got to tell you it’s not a beautiful an area as the Pacific NW. I was so taken with your last video. This is super but the scenery in our NW area is heads above the South West. Thanks again and catch ya soon. Tim
Hey Mike, I just want to say I’ve been watching your videos for as long as I can remember. I love coaster and Amtrak and although it’s sad to see the F40PH and the P42DC’s go, I like the SC-44 “Charger”. When will you be visiting Metro North Railroad? Can you do it soon? If so, let me know what line and where.
The SC-44 charger looks modern and futuristic. I’ve seen it before in the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner livery and it’s diesel electric power unit sounds pretty good but it’s quieter than the P42dc and I could barely hear it when it accelerates.
Takes me back to my days of commuting on the Coaster. I like that you even got the Sprinter in here!
I had to! Thanks for watching!

7:27 three trolley cars in the same ad wrap

This channel does it right....no long boring videos.... gets to the point... excellent
4:56 I haven't seen this kind of train before, very interesting
It’s called a Sprinter hybrid rail train
That makes sense, I do like the looks that it has
This train that you saw, is being use also in Europe, in Greece, they build hybrid rail out of 5 cars adding also the pantograph
I see them pretty daily in Romania
And also theyre not in the greatest shape you can imagine

This has got to be one of your best videos! So many great catches. I love all the bikes too
As a San Diegan myself, I think this video is great! Also, Is the short Coaster train(with the engine and cab car only)a rare thing?

On 2:21 is the F59PHI the last locomotive on the Coaster fleet?
They are barely used right now maybe in 2022 F59PHI will stop being used.
3001 and 3002 are both still around but have not been used much since the F40 retirement. They're on standby I think.
Not officially supposed to be retired until next year.
