      Molotov cocktail? His name was Vyacheslav Molotov, or "Hammer", he was the Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs (1939-1949), not a nice guy. In 1939-1940 the gracious Soviet Union invaded Finland. During the Soviet invasion invasion Molotov claimed the Soviet Union was not dropping bombs on Finland, but merely airlifting food to starving Finns. The Finns were not starving, and they dubbed the Soviet cluster bombs "Molotov's bread basket." The Finns also named the improvised incendiary device that they used to counter Soviet tanks, commonly known as the Molotov cocktail, "a drink to go with the food." Thank you Comrade Molotov!
      In 1942 Molotov started and headed the Soviet atomic bomb building program in competition with the Manhattan Project. We have Comrade Molotov to thank for the beginnings of Soviet nuclear weapons and that darling Cold War.

    Pro-tip: To prevent this on ALL Ford vehicles equipped with the Capless fuel filler work the gas pump filler gun in and out a few times after you fill up, this will clear any debris holding the door open. Also use compressed air or canned air if you don't have a compressor to blow out the entrance to the filler once every few months or when you wash your car. I have a 2012 Fusion and have never had an EVAP issue with it.

      Aside from cleaning and replacing the filler neck have you come across any diy gasket or plugs to help seal the system? My 09 F150 P0442. Thanks for any feedback.

    • @notchback93
      @notchback93 3 года назад +1

      @@Sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiitt hey brother in my experience your code p0442 could be caused by multiple things inside of your evap system, cleaning the cap less neck is just the most common and least expensive thing to attack first unfortunately if that didn’t solve the issue the next step is to have the system smoke tested to determine where your leak is, there are other components that fail in that system but any of those would just be a guess on my part. Hope this helps you.

    It’s not a salt belt thing. Fixed my wife’s the same way and it’s been in Texas it’s whole life. I used a screwdriver to hold it open and clean/condition the rubber with silicone spray. Then hit with the funnel like you did. There’s an anti theft cap for these to seal off dirt, but you can also use a ford ranger upper tube with a cap and adapt it to the car.

    My car actually threw the same code a few days ago. (this is not an advertisement but) I bought the Blue Driver ODB scanner to see what the code was. Yes, it was the Evap code (slow leak). Spoke to my Mechanic, he told me most likely this is a fuel cap issue (no my car is not fuelless, or capless ;-)) he told me he could take it in and smoke it just like you did. I did exactly what this video did, I used some wd 40 to clean the fuel cap seal and cleared the code, and no problem. Even though this repair did cost me 90 bucks (the cost of the ODB scanner) I really feel it was a good investment in my tool kit. Lemur is the Canadian company that updates the android app/database for vehicles. Maybe the South Main Channel could purchase one of these and see how they compare to the professional scanners. This scan tool felt pretty professional to me ... but then what do I know.. To take from a great mechanic on line, the South Main Channel "Remember if I can do it, so can you"

It's the only reason my light has come on every few months. I know it's the EVAP leak because the light sets as soon as you turn the key and the engine runs fine. Load up on WD-40 and keep the filler area clean.

    Due to arthritis, my hands lost the ability to remove the fuel cap and some vehicles (Ram 1500) I can’t get my hand to the cap, so the capless fuel system is a god send. I live in Florida and I have not noticed any debris build up. Eric, thank you for sharing with me that there are videos that show how to maintain the capless system.

    • @katrinab7657
      @katrinab7657 4 месяца назад

      It's been 5 years I hope you are well. If the arthritis is still a problem, please look up "hyperbaric oxygen therapy" AND arthritis. Sometimes the acronym HBOT is used. There have been amazing studies and testimonials of reversals of chronic illnesses like arthritis, stroke symptoms), severe infection, and even cancer. Just from the administration of oxygen under pressure (like sea divers use to avoid 'the bends') .
      Insurance covers it for or some conditions, but if not, it's usually about $100-$150 per session. Or you can appeal to your insurance company to cover it for your condition.
      Also, a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water once or twice a day - on an empty stomach, an hour or two before or after meals (so it doesn't interfere with digestion) does amazing things for arthritis. It calms the inflammation, which causes pain.
      You'll have to research these on your own. They are generally not directly taught in medical schools, because the low cost of therapy means there is no one to sponsor multiple studies, advertising, pharmaceutical reps and educators. There's no blame to most doctors, just an explanation of why most will not be aware of this and some will be wary.
      God's blessings on you.

    I was told that capless filler necks are to reduce fuel vapors escaping to the atmosphere when refueling. Every time you take the cap off or remove the filler nozzle the vapors escape. With this design the vapors are captured by the gas pump nozzle and it seals quicker when you remove the nozzle. I assume that all filler necks will eventually use this design. Hopefully manufacturers improve the design!

    Same problem for the same car. It should have been a recall (one of many) for this model. Tried the one handed method, and it worked - until next time you got gas. I replaced all 4 feet of the fuel filler neck, since you can't just replace the flap assembly. Later models had an exterior door flap that closed with magnets and kept the dirt out (you are right about this being a N. E. geographical problem). Now find a 2012 Fusion with intermittent air conditioning PROBLEM (blows hot as a heater, and then it's fine). Fix Or Repair Daily.

    I first saw this Capless Fuel Filler on a Ford Escape that I rented. Good idea for those who can't remember to replace the cap and close the door after filling. I wonder if it helps prevent people from driving away with the nozzle in the filler? Oh well.... can't have everything. Just remember the old saying..... "Anything designed to make something Idiot Proof, will produce a better idiot!" At least it can create new problems. Consider for example a "Skinless Banana"..... very convenient, not having to struggle pealing it before eating, and it is a new taste adventure at the beach.

    I haven't had any trouble with my 2014 focus' or 2011 Taurus' capless system, probably because when I noticed it was getting difficult to insert the filler funnel(I use fuel system cleaners occasionally) I sprayed the system down with lube and gave it a good funneling. On a different but related note, the hinge that holds the fuel door popped out if its socket and I had to spend an hour pulling carpet and foam out of my trunk and reaching into a blind hole just to get the damn door assembly off, then screw and super glue the hinge pin in place. The whole thing was made of plastic of course. Why they couldn't they just put the door on with a few screws accessible from outside of the car?

    I see your concerns with a repeat of the same problem I don't quite get the idea of a cap less fuel tank easier to mess with someone's car

    First time I saw that filler neck was on my son's Mustang. I had two thoughts at the time: first was WTF? second was why "fix" something that as far as I know, NO ONE has ever complained about...and then also take out the spare and replace it with an air canister, but that is a separate rant.

    The real ez-fuel system went away in the 1960s. You drove into the service station, rolled down your window, said "ten regular", and you got gas, the windows cleaned, water and oil checked, and tires topped up if needed. Then you paid $3.20 and left. Never had to deal with a gas cap at all.

      It didn't go away, in Oregon amd New Jersey no self serve gas.

    I think if I was plagued woth this issue, I might make a small dist cap to cover the filler, or perhaps male a soft foam gasket to seal the gas door.

      Curious how the DIY cap/foam gasket worked out? I know it’s been 2 years since commenting but i’m experiencing this issue on my 09 f150. Certainly welcoming any ideas you have come across until the repair. Thank you

      @@Sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiitt I didn't have to fix this problem, but my thinking is/was if you can take steps to occlude dirt and other crud, from causing the problem any issue caused by the crud won't come back.

    I’d like a discussion (lecture) on scan tools. I’ve noticed a Snap On and a Bosch then there is the laptop. Some jobs use a smaller scan tool then there is a host of other digital wonders that are used under the hood.
    All that said, let take it a bit at a time, I’d like to start with scan tools knowing why each is chosen for which job or why one is better than another.
    Thanks for your time and interesting topics.

    Ford has TSBs for exactly what you did. It is not a great fix, as you said, but it as to be done before Ford will cover a filler tube under warranty.

    I like having the capless fuel system on my F150. It's a 2010 so 9 years now without a problem. I guess I'll have to wiggle it's jiggly bits if I ever get that code. I am in south Louisiana so I don't have to worry about salt on the roads or anything like that if it makes any difference

    Any chance you could do little whiteboard job explaining this EVAP system thingy.
    Be good to understand what you were adjusting with the scan tool and what that actually relates to physically in the system.

    I remember when the cap was part of the fuel door. This was on the 68 Dodge Charger If it was my car I would just replace the complicated one with a regular gas cap. From a older model

      Knowing the manufacturers there is probably some kind of sensor or something that ties the filler neck with that car and you would never be able to drive it without the stupid capless neck...lol

    The most annoying thing about modern cars is the engine lights reporting ‘non problems’ in the first place. In the old days this would have gone unnoticed, unfixed and caused no problems to anyone including the lady’s cheque book. What next, a flashing dash light telling you the paint is flaking off the colour coded door mirrors. I’m pretty sure you have better things to do as a mechanic than spray WD40 on sticky filler hinges. Love your channel though Eric, we don’t get enough of this sort of stuff in the United Kingdom. Watching you and listening to your accent is better than the movies.
