  • Sailing my Goat island Skiff in the company of Edgar on his HITIA 14!
    Once again got the chance to sail side by side with Edgar's homemade multihull, an Hitia 14.
    Not much wind to start with but both boats sailed ok, and we had a nice relaxing sailing session.
    Later on the wind started to pick up and we still had a few good runs!
    This was Edgar's first sail of the season.

    The sprit rig is great. Brailing up lets you throttle it like an engine and effectively put in a reef while underway. Scandalising is a great way to dowse sail without losing control. I'm daydreaming of a goat with a sprit 😉

      You are not wrong, trouble is Sods Law, you feel like relaxing and It blows a gale etc. But nothing quite like sailing down wind on a calm sunny day all is peace and tranquility, and you can put your beer down without fear of it spilling.

    Another great video, Teo! The camera fooled me too! I was wondering who was operating the drone,and then I realized it was your new magic-cam. You have done a marvelous job in turning Forager into a real multi-purpose dinghy with real cruising potential. I expect we will see more people copying your side benches. Thank you for sharing all this with us.

    It keeps amazing me how Forager shoots forward with every slight breeze and keeps accelerating. You run past Edgar like he is dragging a bucket under water! I have to get me a couple of nice sheets of plywood soon!
    About protecting the bottom against the shell’s. Maybe underbody coating that is used for cars is something to consider?
    Regards again from Holland,
    Paul

    • @TheBoatRambler
      @TheBoatRambler  3 года назад

      Hi Paul.
      Edgar's Hitia will smoke my GIS when wind goes over 9-10kt and I have to start easing the mainsheet. His boat will just keep going.
      As for the bottom, I guess I could use some harder finish but tbh it's not that much work to repaint it! 😉
      Cheers
      Teo

    The HITIA 14 doesn't have a halyard? Just the sprit hoists the sail?

    • @TheBoatRambler
      @TheBoatRambler  3 года назад

      I believe it does have a halyard to hoist the throat but the peak is then supported by the sprit.

    • @VadiodaXT
      @VadiodaXT 3 года назад +1

      The HITIA 14 have a halyard that inside the mast.
      The mast is wooden but hollow
      The halyard is only stretched after having the sail on top
