Boxing and WRESTLING. Learn those 2. Don't take it from me take it from all the fighters and combat athletes. You don't go to the ground on purpose but sometimes you end up there. He is wrong and right at the same time.

100% correct. I’m no street fighter veteran but common sense tells me boxing would be most effective but that you should have some background on ground fighting/defense in case you DO end up there.
Always is curious to me how some people are so extreme-either you train to roll on the ground or you can NEVER go to the ground.
      It’s both. Fights are unpredictable.

Now he's definitely correct about both boxing and staying on your feet but here's the thing. Needing to stay standing is an extremely good reason to learn wrestling not bjj but wrestling. Because if someone tries to take you down as w wrestler you can easily stop them. Plus the body control that you learn will allow you to throw them off and get hack up quickly. If you do end up on the ground for whatever reason, bottom line barring fire*rms. A good mix of boxing and either greeco or freestyle is the best for a streetfight.

Interesting because theres a short going around with Michael Jai White saying basically the same thing. Ive only ever trained boxing but anytime ive lost street fights was when i went to the ground.

Yeah he’s wrong here. Even if you’re a good boxer you might get caught by a punch in a street fight. If you’re a good grappler against someone who isn’t you’re almost guaranteed to be able to control them on the ground. That being said if the person has friends then tying them up on the ground is a bad idea. Best option is to not get in fights, but also being competent at striking and grappling.

@HerculesLoyd any good boxer can get caught by a random punch and any good wrestling can get choked out , limbs broken. The control goes both ways for both styles.
I fought in many street fights before I started boxing. After I trained the results were so drastically different that I couldn't even picture what would of happened if I didn't. I'd probably be dead. Also this was 25 years who before mma took over the mainstream. Both thos guys i mentioned are in my age bracket or slightly older. That makes a difference. Also when I mentioned losing After going to the ground , once was against a wrestler a once was against a non boxer and i got hit by a clean shot by a guy twice my size. I was our

@@FirstLast-vl1uy I hear you, but against an untrained opponent, which a street fight will likely be, someone is far more likely to land a lucky punch on you than have any success at all grappling. Main point is that training grappling is actually very useful for street fights.

Here is a Definitive answer for the Brazilian Jiu jitsu side of the argument coming from an MMA and self defence nerd: BJJ is for LIFE THREATINING situations where if you are being held by someone who is much stronger than you, no it isn’t flashy kickboxing to make you look cool. it is for when your being held maybe by your jacket (hence the Gi) standing up or on the ground you need to escape so you can get on your feet and run, kickboxing or ANY martial art won’t do diddly squat for you if your laying on the ground getting punched down by a heavier guy.

  • @Tik075

We don't train BJJ to go to the ground in a fight necessarily but rather in case we get thrown to the ground we can gain composure and scramble back up to our feet😊

    @darrensice1550 10 дней назад

I started boxing when I was 13 and we would not wear gloves when we were hitting the bags or anything else we were only allowed to wear them when we were sparring.
The reason for this was because where we would train it was at an engineering company and if you went on the 10 km jog with the owner then you were allowed to get trained for free but no gloves because we were training to keep our country town safe.
Just before school holidays started the NRL footy guys 20-30 years old would come down get drunk and fight with the locals.
Usually the boys that would fight them were 19-25 local boys but when my best mate got punched twice on the way to my house well sucks to be them so we went down to the Main Street looking for them.
When we saw them it was on and my mate and I were 17 at the time and we got treated like men after that night and no one gave us a hard time if they were local.
Then I moved to a big city and they would act all tough but when I found out no one had ever trained like we did I thought it was weird.
Then one night a friend of one of the bouncers at a nightclub that I went to sly punched me and I just put my head down in time and I heard his hand and he sat me on my arse.
Then the bouncer that was his mate got another bouncer and the guy that just punched me and they dragged me down some back stairs and thought this guy was going to beat the shit out of me.
Well he asked if I was going to fight him and when I seemed a bit to keen he was shocked but when I punched him twice at about 75% to see if he wanted to keep going he did want to look weak so he shook his head and walked forward then I hooked right in and the bouncer’s both took a big breath in and watched the guy standing on his feet but knocked out and I grabbed him before he fell hard on the ground and said who is his mate and said grab him and told the other bouncer to go and get Micheal who is the manager and that I knew really well because I had just done the refurbishment on the nightclub.
When he got downstairs he was really angry to see that I was taken down there and asked how could he make it right and I said it was sweet can I go back up.
Now Micheal had heard from my brother and another guy we worked with that they could guarantee he has never seen someone punch as hard as I did and not hurt my hands.
After I had left and gone upstairs he asked them would they try to fight me and they said after they heard the two checking punches asked old mate if he wanted to keep going.
They said in the 8 years they had been in the job they had never heard punches that heavy and loud until they heard the second two at full strength and they said they wouldn’t fight me two on one.
He said so it was like nothing you had ever seen before and they said Tommy Morrison and Mike Tyson had a different sound when they punched somebody full strength in the ring.
They would have a different sound on the street but not like this it was more like he was van dam kicking the banana tree but punches.
When I was talking to Micheal later he said how could I punch that hard and not hurt my hands he said the bouncer’s said never had they heard a deep heavy thud like that and I said it was the way I got to train for free by a guy that only said you do the 10km jog free training but you didn’t quit when you start.
I never told anybody how I could do it and when you’re 6,3 105kg but fit and punch harder and faster than others had seen everyone wants to see it.
So I only ever showed another friend how hard I could really punch his dad’s heavy bag in front of his brother and parents they all went silent and asked why wasn’t I in the ring on TV and I said because I didn’t like fighting in the ring and especially after my best mate had been murdered I didn’t like attention even more than and especially confrontation I would get so angry it scared me and only two people could calm me down before I met and married my wife and it was my cousin and her boyfriend because they understood some how and I never told them.

    Distance control

If you grapple and someone pulls out a knife while youre laying on him you are going get stabbed 100%. If youre boxing and you knock him out guess what sleeping people cant pull out knives anymore or use them. Most street fights will include either a weapon or multiple people. One on one street fights are super rare in fact almost never happen. So you are way off. I would say muay thai is the best form of combat for the street as it utilizes elbows and knees as well as using the clinch and tripping your opponents.

Throws often times put your feet in an awkward position for striking and running away. If its one on one and no knives and they happen to have a big coat or a jacket youd be correct but thats plenty of ifs
