You can go as tactical and pimped as you want. But there is nothing more cool than a side by side coach gun. Anything from No 9’s to solid slugs and everything in between. 👌 Thanks for sharing!
Double barrel coach guns are one of the greatest firearm inventions ever created. There is just something extremely fun about them and it never gets boring. I'm still kicking myself for passing up on a Rossi a couple of years ago because it looked like it was going to become a bidding war and ending up costing well over value. I should have stuck around longer to see if I could have gotten it. Lesson learned.
Sorry to hear that you didn't get to buy that old Rossi. You're right, they are one of the greatest firearms ever invented and I hope you are able to find another one someday.
I always beleived coach guns make great travelling weapons. They break down so compactly so they can fit into any bag for discretion. And the go back together so easily. Great to have when you stop at a motel for the night
Oh, man! Thanks for transporting me back in time. Years ago, when I was in college, I bought a Rossi double barrel Overlander with the hammers, I really loved that little gun. I used it for rabbit hunting primarily, but it was just a lot of fun. I picked it up for 90 bucks at an auction new. Stupidly, I sold it to pick up something else I wanted at the time. Cowboy action shooting was just starting up and becoming popular in the area I lived in, and I made a good profit on selling that gun. However, I have regretted selling it ever since, and would love to have another one.
50 years ago, I bought an "H&R" 12 gauge double barrel, internal hammers, 3" chambers, 28" barrels, modified and full chokes, brand new, $99.00. It was made in Brazil by Rossi for H&R. Still have it.
There is something special about a double barrel - Besides being the gun of choice by Uncle Joe - especially with hammers on it. Have a 20ga XLCR hammerless thats been thru 4 generations of the family. A joy to shoot!! Appreciate your time. 👍👍
I bought a Stoeger 12 ga coach gun about 10 years ago on sale . It was so full of crud and grit out of the box from the factory you had to bend it over your knee to open and close it . Same with the extractor mechanism that had trouble pulling the spent shells out of the chambers . I watched a video on DIY Cowboy Action tuning for one of these shotguns and went to work Took it apart and cleaned /polished /lubed everything up . Had to file some on the extractor it was a little tall and would drag when opening . I also ran a brake cyl. hone in both chambers very gradually until the spent shells would just drop free when broken open and flipped over away from you . It worked flawless after a little elbow grease and was a fun little gun that falls open when the tang lever is pressed and locks closed with an light upward flip of the barrels .
There is no greater pleasure in the world then shooting a double-barrel shotgun. I own a few but the Rossi with the exposed hammers is the most fun. I always enjoy your videos keep them coming sir. 🇺🇲☕👍
My Rossi is on of my favorite shotguns. I used it, quite successfully, for dove, quail, pheasant, and rabbit hunting. It shoulders quickly and has a great point. I’m a bit,old school, and love the rabbit ear hammers too.
Ive been looking for external hammer double barrel shotgun forever. Love the esthetics of them. The most iconic line ever spoken in a movie and fit perfect in this scene. I loved it
A fun time, for sure. I notice that prices have sure gone up in the last while - I bought a Stoeger last year for CAS, and it co$t me well over CDN $700.00!! (New, of course, and delivered.) But she's a fine shooter! Thanks for the video!
I picked up a new Russian Baikal TOZ-66 back in the mid to late 70's for @ $ 120 or $140... so many years I forget exactly. 20" barrels (Imp & Mod) 2 3/4” dual triggers and exposed hammers AND robust AF. Never had an issue with it and it served as a hunting and skeet/trap gun as well as my go-to when there were 'bumps in the night' in my home. A real trusty companion.
There's definitely something special about those exposed hammers. Reminds me of the Westerns I loved watching as a kid. I had good gun week, a Ruger Mini 30 on my Really Want list, a Henry Golden Boy .22 on my Settle For list.
Plus with the hammer gun is you can leave it loaded by the bed ready to go for decades with no concern for the springs. You can also cock either barrel or both at will depending on the need of the moment. Total control like having a manual transmission.
Those were very nice. Now I will have another gun in the back of my mind to think about especially the Rossi with the hammers. Those are the coolest. Good Show. Thanks.
The Rossi coachgun with outside hammers and a Stoeger shotgun double barrel both for 350 $ , thats great, i wish we can get here in Austria this kind of shootguns for such a cheap prize, i bought a russian Baikal shootgun with outside hammers for 550 $ , its 10 years ago, if you have luck here that a gunshop here offer the same model, it costs now 780 $ . I never will sell my Baikal coachgun, its so rare here and so expensive. I wish I live in Texas or there in Nevada to get such treasures of firearms easely and cheap in pawnshops there, its a paradise for a collector of nice firearms like me. God save America 🇺🇸. I remember watching your video on removing rust with a penny. I told several folks about it and shared it a couple time also. This video make me want to get a coach gun now!
For big fun try black powder in paper hulls. You won't be disappointed by the performance and the smoke and "boom" is magically satisfying!!! These two guns are perfect for that!
I've had a few Stoegers and the stocks vary wildly. Yours looks really nice. I have an OU 20 Ga with beautiful wood. I used to have a SxS 20 with zero grain, and I've had a few in-between. But they've all been cheap and reliable. This video is what it's all about - cheap fun. Happy Saturday!
I bought one of the Rossi SxS 12 gauge coach guns new around 1980. I used to hunt ducks and geese with it. My buddies yucked it up mightily, that anyone in their right mind would use such a shotgun for waterfowl. They laughed, right up until the ducks started falling out of the sky. I've often mentally kicked myself in the butt for letting it go. I've had a couple of pump-action scatterguns over the years, but I still miss that old Rossi. Nice video - a trip down Memory Lane for me. Cheers.
Thanks for another great video on two great double barreled shotguns. I have two old Stevens double barreled shotguns, in 12 and 20 ga. Excellent designed shotguns made in the USA. I used the 20 ga for rabbit hunting with beagles until a few years ago. The 12 ga is a safe queen I bought from a friend's father who could no longer shoot it. Wish I could find another Stevens double in 410 but the prices have gone way up. Needless to say, I will never sell mine.
My Rossi did the same thing with the rust. I believe it’s because the barrel and receiver are different grades of steel. The barrel is high carbon tool steel, the receiver more chromium to help with the luster. I really like these Brazilian shotguns. Real bargains for the quality you get. For $150 I’ll take a whole wagon load of them, rust and all, and start cleaning.😅
Early on in my Cowboy Action Shooting days, the Rossi side-by-sides were nearly the only doubles available with external hammers, but I never owned one because the stock geometry was totally wrong for me. However, the "hammerless" Stoeger Coach Guns (like the one in this video) were a perfect fit. After a couple years of CAS I acquired a Tula model TOZ-66 12-gauge mule-eared double which fit me perfectly and it became my go-to CAS scattergun.
@@mixup98 They were manufactured in Russia's Tula Armory, and one of the big USA department store mail-order houses (Montgomery Ward or Sears Roebuck) acquired a boatload of them in the mid-1970s. In addition to the Coach Gun style with 20-inch barrels (like mine), there were models with full-length barrels. 🤠
@@noahcount7132 Thanks for the info on the shotgun. I remember when Montgomery Ward, Sears and JCPenney all sold firearms. Even my local Walmart stopped selling guns a few years ago. ☹☹
I really enjoyed that video, just a hoot ! I had a Stoeger Coach gun many years ago and sold it to buy another gun, another one of my "shouldn't a done it moves". Might be time to find another one .
Hello BigBossMan. I had a hoot making this video and I'm glad you enjoyed watching it. I have sold many guns that I later regretted so I know exactly how you feel.
I bought a New Rossi Coach Gun back in the late 70’s … was great for shooting skeet but i did get a few odd looks … I had a spring break about a year after I bought it .. Gunsmith said he had to make the part because he could not order them ,, Then a few years later the firing pins started mushrooming… Back to the gunsmith … Diagnosis was Very soft metal used in the pins … he made new ones … Never had another problem … I went to buy another one and found out they are no longer imported … Sure hate that ….
The stoeger coach cun is manufactured here in Brazil by a company called ER Amantino Boito. They're sold here as Boito A-680. Just bought mine recently, great gun, very versatille, budget and fun to shoot. I use it to hunt boars, since rifles have become very expensive recently (and ammo is even worse).
As a cowboy action shooter you're probably familiar with how easy it is to slick these up. I like double-barrels, such a classic and stylish design. Double-barrel anythings need external hammers and double triggers.
I did polish the chambers and I also deactivated the automatic safety on the Stoeger when I was competing. Unfortunately I didn't own the Rossi at the time otherwise I would have loved shooting it during matches.
I have loved every stoeger shotgun and pistol bought. Not one has failed from pump, double barrel, semi auto, to the str9 pistols. I'd take a stoeger over any other budget shotgun and budget pistol out there as stoeger are owned by and the budget line of beretta benelli Corp.
*Those are so cool, I really like that Rossi!* *I never picked up, or even looked into a coach-gun, so thanks for showing me what I've been missing.* *I love the ease of operation, and take-down; so simple.* *I think the genius of simplistic design by fine craftsman, seems to be lost by modernity firearm manufactures.* *Great...........Now I gotta go to gun shows and find me a deal on one.........Thanks a lot!*
I remember watching westerns on TV and wanting to own a coach gun when I grew up. I don't know if I have ever really grown up but I'm glad I was able to fulfill one of my childhood dreams (along with owning a lever action, single action, and a genuine 1911 Colt pistol). I hope you find a good deal on an old double barrel shotgun...you won't regret it.
@mixup98 BTW, my dad had an old Rossi like yours and it was the first shotgun I ever fired as a young kid. He had put swivels on it for a sling and my finger was up against it. When I fired, it gave me a fat lump on that finger. Dad said to me "I think that was a magnum load". I chuckle now, but back then I sure didn't. RIP dad and the good old days
@@ddhh6552 I once had an old single shot shotgun and it too had a sling stud on the forearm and yes, I also shot a magnum shell.......once! Thanks for the great comment and you obviously had a great father.
Bought my Rossi overland coach in the 80s for 180.00,new. It's the stand by the bed gun. Over the years I've acquired a 12 and 20 in the full length barrel. Paid a little more than 180 for those. Safest scattergun made. And don't let the made in Brazil fool you into thinking it's not a quality firearm. All the Interarms imported guns of Rossi of that era, were well built. Only upgrade I can think of would be if there was a stainless version.
Goal of the day is to always learn something new. I didn't know the barrels were different now can't wait to find 1 in a pawn shop so I can check them out... THANKS
Thanks for the video! I don't think one of these will ever rise high enough on my purchase list to buy, but they are cool guns. If I could get the Rossi for $100, I might go for that, but that gun will never be that price again.
Imagine the barrells peeking through the mail slot.. GET OFF MY LAWN!!!! Pretty nice firearms.. makes me feel like I need one of those beauties 💗 Thanks for sharing
A couple of years ago I bought Stevens 225. Around 1910. It's well worn. Rabbit ears. Cut down to 19" and the stock shortened. May have been for a youth or woman. The guy I got it from collected barn guns, stuff that would have stood inside the barn door to dispatch crows, foxes or rats. So I call my shotgun a barn gun. Can't bear to use coach gun. Cooler than that
My single shots are all hammerless like shown but with ejectors. Fun guns if a little punchy so hold on tight. The 28 is perfect shooter the 20 and up let you have it. Great vid thanks for the show.
I have a Stoeger Coach gun and Maverick 88 with a short barrel ( both in 12 ga) and I really enjoy shooting them both. Thanks for showing how to determine what kind of barrels I have on my Stoeger in your video. I bought some slugs and the guy at Bass Pro said not put them thru a Full choke tube or barrel.
Good morning Randy. I'm glad you found my video informative regarding the two different chokes on your shotgun. Thanks for the feedback, stay safe and enjoy shooting your 99 and coach gun.
I saw the video of you taking the rust off that shotgun, and it's still looking great. I have to wonder, now that EvapoRust is around, how the two methods would compare. That stuff seems miraculous. Thanks for another nice video. I do love those side by side shotguns.
Well I picked up a Stoeger stainless steel double. Shot it 50 yard target. Couldn’t hit the side of a barn. Put it away for five years never took it out again. Due to this video coming out this weekend. Thank you
Last November, I purchased a Rossi 12G coach gun(Difficult to find) on a live auction. Paid about 2.25 times what you paid for your two. At the huge Phoenix gun Show in Dec, saw one of the Cimarron 1878 Shotguns with a 1200 bazinga price tag.
I had a Kalashnikov Concern Baikal side-by-side coach gun imported by Universal Arms. best side-by-side with exposed hammers I ever had. haven't found another similar to it. I do miss that gun.
Ahhh... The prices from the yesteryears! Recently, I saw a Stoeger coach gun in my local gun store -- they wanted over $600 for it. I just wasn't ready to pay that much for a Stoeger. It costs me way less to build a decent quality AR-15 (yes, we still build our own rifles in Commiefornia).
Great video love the guns really like the Rossi with outside hammers just puts you back in another time n place. Love the setting there that's so cool. First time here really enjoyed it. Will definitely subscribe. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy
Hello Mike and welcome to my channel. I have almost 400 videos here on youtube, with lots of shotgun videos, and I hope you enjoy watching more of my videos. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video, and I especially thank you for the sub.
I have the double barrel stoeger coach supreme in stainless... I waited 3 months for that gun, and it was absolutely worth the wait... Beautiful awesome gun!!... I believe the only real difference is mine has removable choked tubes... I think you would love my browning auto 5 sweet 16...
I have a Parker Brothers Hammer gun with 20" tubes Damascus 10-gauge 2 7/8" and use black powder substitute 00 Buckshot ammo. Its in very nice shape and has the lifter barrel release in front of the trigger guard. Yep, I have used it for defense when you hear those sounds that go bump in the night, just something about it that extrudes confidence. I feel the smoke screen will give me time to go and either reload or grab something else. In close the 15 pellets of 00 BUCK probably would allow me to see what is on the other side of the intruder. Excellent gun but I have always liked these type weapons, a modern one would be neat too in 12-gauge.
I got the same Rossi $125.00 it was on a fishing boat off Cape Cod for a shark gun. Had 1 rust spot . It's a coyote gun now and rain deeer gun easy to clean. The rt barrel cylinder bore left barrel choked by the factory.
My favorite shotguns are the double barrell side by sides and the over/unders. I have the same shotguns you have in this video and I also have a Asian made side by side shotguns with exposed hammers in 12 and 20 gauges.
I just bought a new Stoeger 12 gauge coach gun with single trigger - had to hunt high and low for it. A gun show 12 years ago - that explains the prices - but even so, that is a screaming deal. I do like the external hammer Rossi - but it is a bit slower than the internal hammers for CAS and that's what I use my coach for. But I sill like them! And they do break open so easy given there's no spring pressure. Love your vids and as always you seem to be operating on the same wave length as me.
Loads of fun in a small package. For slug hunting I figure you find out which barrel shoots closest to point of aim and treat it like single. Of you know the relative difference in yhe second barrel I suppose you could load it up too for backup... especially if going after hogs. 😇
Great Video Sir ! When you picked up that 'eyeball' near the end ,you missed a great one liner. ; " It looks like he keeps an eye out for me ! " lol Cheers gents .
Good morning Louis. I will have to remember that line next time I shoot a target with a set of eyeballs in it. You made me laugh this morning.....thanks! 👍😁
I used my brothers Rossi over lander in .410 as my first hunting gun. Unfortunately he sold that gun before I could buy it and have been looking for another one for the last 20 years! They are rare as hen’s up her3 in Canada and the few I’ve seen in the states are getting pretty pricey. I wish Rossi still made the overlander in the same quality as they used to make!
@@mixup98 Tombstone was such a great film! They don't make 'em like that anymore. Sadly. On the upside, you can always use that line in another vid! Appreciate all the different firearms you display for us 👍😎

I think it should be illegal not to have ejectors on any break action shotgun. LOL. Excellent video
Two bealtyfull Guns, very nice!
Thank you for another fine video.
I love my stoeger coach, it's a lovely firearm.
I certainly agree 👍👍
Yes, I love mine, too! The factory did a great job regulating the barrels, and the right barrel is dead on with slugs!
*Those are so cool, I really like that Rossi!*
*I never picked up, or even looked into a coach-gun, so thanks for showing me what I've been missing.*
*I love the ease of operation, and take-down; so simple.*
*I think the genius of simplistic design by fine craftsman, seems to be lost by modernity firearm manufactures.*
*Great...........Now I gotta go to gun shows and find me a deal on one.........Thanks a lot!*
@@mixup98 👍🤠
@@mixup98 if you’re still having fun, and enjoying life, why grow up? Keep up the great videos, while you’re at it!👍😁
What a fantastic deal. Pretty hard to beat a 100 dollar shotgun. Much like the pawn shops, the deals at gun shows seem to be scarce now.
I agree, it is ridiculous what some sellers are asking for their firearms at gun shows.
THANKS
👍😎
These coach guns are a lot of fun shooting road signs buzzed up on a few beers.
Thanks for the video!
I don't think one of these will ever rise high enough on my purchase list to buy, but they are cool guns. If I could get the Rossi for $100, I might go for that, but that gun will never be that price again.
Thanks for the review and comparison.
👍😎
Imagine the barrells peeking through the mail slot..
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!
Pretty nice firearms.. makes me feel like I need one of those beauties 💗
Thanks for sharing
👍😁
Bruce Campbell - my hand went bad so I cut it off. Love that movie
Me too!
Love them “mule ears”! Excellent video as always 💯👍🏻🍻
Cooler than that
Very accurate guns! I like them.
Nice video and two great scatter guns.
Thank you!
Wow great review. Love the Rossi. I agree cocking the hammer is great.
👍😎
You have just too much fun for one old guy. 👍👍👍.
I concur 👍😎
I saw the video of you taking the rust off that shotgun, and it's still looking great. I have to wonder, now that EvapoRust is around, how the two methods would compare. That stuff seems miraculous.
Thanks for another nice video. I do love those side by side shotguns.
I have never used EvapoRust but I will certainly give it a try if I ever run across another old shotgun that needs a good cleaning 👍🏻🤠
Wish the shot guns had partial extractors or electors.
That Rossi looks like great fun.
Waooo Fantastic Rossi shotgun beautiful for $100 😮
Thank you for sharing mixup98 💥
Outstanding 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤠....well....I think I will take both of them!!!! Great score mix up....always great to see you out there
Well I picked up a Stoeger stainless steel double. Shot it 50 yard target. Couldn’t hit the side of a barn. Put it away for five years never took it out again. Due to this video coming out this weekend. Thank you
That ending!!! Loved that movie!!
I love how you shoot your shoot-n-see targets from the back. Never seen that done before but it's really cool!
I appreciate the feedback Stan and I will use this technique in more of my videos, especially my shotgun videos.
Oh yeah, when I hear the "High Plains Drifter" music in the intro, I know I'm in for a real treat!!
👍😎
I'll Always Protect Travelodge Apt 323.
I recently picked up that stoeger, can't wait to shoot it!
I absolutely love the stoeger tactical side by side ❤
I got the same Rossi $125.00 it was on a fishing boat off Cape Cod
for a shark gun.
I had one of those Rossi's and let it go, regret it now but still have 2 Stoeger 12 ga. , My favorite shotguns to play with.
This gun is so beautiful, I think I will own one
Loads of fun in a small package. For slug hunting I figure you find out which barrel shoots closest to point of aim and treat it like single. Of you know the relative difference in yhe second barrel I suppose you could load it up too for backup... especially if going after hogs. 😇
I bought a Stoeger .410 SXS for $350 brand new bored I/C AND MOD . I use it for hunting woodcock and Dove. Good firearms .
My favorite type of shotgun. Thank you for making the video.
The eyeball survives to live yet another day!
Thanks from Ireland 🇮🇪 mixup You can’t beat a good side by side Basic but Effective 👍👍
Hello G78 and greetings from the United States. Basic, effective and a lot of fun! Thanks for the great comment.
@@mixup98 Thank you enjoy your videos from the Emerald Isle 🍀🍀🍀🍀
🤣 "I'm your huckleberry" Nice touch 👍. Good shootin' with those break actions 👌
👍😁
@@mixup98 "I have 2 guns. 1 for each of you." 👍😎
@@1madmaxx80 Heck yeah, I should have used that in my video!
@@mixup98 Tombstone was such a great film! They don't make 'em like that anymore. Sadly. On the upside, you can always use that line in another vid! Appreciate all the different firearms you display for us 👍😎
@@1madmaxx80 👍😎😎👍
A couple of very cool shotguns Sir
Thank you Mr. Smith 👍😎
I just got me a Stoeger coach shotgun. I can't wait to take it out shooting.
