I definetly don't recommend Death Note to be a Friday anime. First of all: the cliffhangers will kill you and also this anime has 37 (!) episodes. I though you wanted to do only 1 season small animes on the friday slot?! It will take almost 3/4 of the year to get through.
Okay, you've done D.Gray-Man. When are you going to do Katekyo Hitman Reborn!?
This anime has comedic moments but overall it's dark and gets very emotional, especially once you start learning the characters' life stories.

@@GOTGames its worth watching at some point, the music is great, great character and story growth, and just some epic battle scenes. Plenty of battles but some episodes take you back in history of a character or explain certain things for you.

Is it still being written? I know as of last year or 2021 it was what? A quarterly release? The time between chapters is so long I forget what happened previously.

@@neotailz it is still a quarterly manga but because of the mangaka's very bad health instead of 4chapters a year sometimes we only get 1-2 chapters a year..Allen and Mana's past just ended in the latest chapter..
One of the most criminally underrated shows like Katekyo Hitman Reborn, the "Musician" OST still gets me to this day. (Musician is a D.gray Man OST, my dumbass forgot to separate "topics").
Katekyo Hitman Reborn is one of my favorite animes, and its soundtrack is amazing

D. Gray Man is by far my favourite manga. The manga excels in all areas:
-the drawing is beautiful,
-the story is complex and very interesting,
- there are many characters, all very different and endearing
- the themes are original and different from the rest of the "popular" works (gothic/dark/19th century)
- and finally Allen Walker... what an incredible main character! I love him so much
But man is it bloody confusing. I kind of wish they'd explained stuff like the 14th a bit more
@@furiousdestroyah9999 it is being explained, slowly. We get a little bit every 3 months or so... tho sometimes we dont and we get more on the innocence or Allen instead.

D.Gray-man is very dark, with light hearted moments in there too. The 4th opening is my absolute favourite! I've adored this anime and manga for years!
This is such a underrated masterpiece almost nobody knows this anime or even talks about it. I got it in Blu-ray DVD.
One of the best cult classic anime out there.

The "vampire" is named Alistar Crowley, I like to say he's the most badass comedic character ever: he's a bit goofy and often used for comedic relief, but when the battle starts, he has the power of doping himself by drinking the blood of the demons he's fighting, and then he literally tears them apart with his bare hands.
D.Gray man is awesome, its dark but not gory and has humor mixed in. Its such a shame that the manga is updated very slowly and they ran out of material for the anime. Hallow (the last season) was made later than the rest when there was more story to adapt but its not finished.
Issue is Hoshino-sensei(Mangala) she has been suffering with some sort of illness which prevents her from drawing long time so at best 4 chapters per year.
I really enjoyed this anime, but I couldn’t stand Hallow

Well, the author is sick that is why the update is slow. We just have to wait the series is ending soon
Opening 4 was Uverworld. An exceptional group who have got their songs in MANY anime over the decades. This and Soul Eater are both very good "spooky" and "darker" themes with a lot of comedic elements to keep you sane. I used to love this show. It was one of my early favorites. The guy with the hammer was certainly in my "husbando" list at the time lol. 🤣
Great anime choice. : ) Brings back some serious nostalgia. There’s a piano song in this anime called “The Musician” that I learned to play on the piano after watching the series. 🧀🪤
Surprised no one said anything about the "13th piano song", ofc isn't an opening nor ending, but it's a pretty darn beautiful song you can hear in the anime.

Sad mention is Road's song, she didn't get the full song so you can hear only a little of it...
@@drdoriangray my favorite track has to be Land of Mater (a reprise of Lala's Lullaby, the song that played when they eventually came back to Mater) and I won't spoil it but wow that arc made that track my favorite by far
Allen's "14th* Piano song" is so beautiful and moving, specially when you start to learn the story behind it.
Abingdon Boys School which did the first opening is a band started by a very famous artist named TM Revolution. That guy is a legend. I heard him live once and that is a memory I will take to my grave.
Kakumei Dualism, Heart of Sword, and Strength are all good songs done by either him or his band.
I didn't know that. I love TM Revolution because of rouroni kenshin. Such bangers!
All I know was someone from TM Revolution, joined Abingdon Boys school, I knew TM Revolution from early Gundam seed music.
Didn't know that Kakumei Dualism from Valvrave was sung by them
so I just thought of something... for some of these anime, it'd be really cool to take a look at the original manga art style compared to how it looks in the anime.
I say this, because the artwork in the D. Gray Man manga is like... just beyond phenomenal. and keep in mind, I'm not at all saying that the anime looks bad, but those pages... like, they are still captivating to this day, and I found the manga back when I was about half my current age.
there are several manga I consider to be this way... even if the anime adaptation were spotless, I'd still say that the manga is worth taking a look at, just because of how uniquely stunning some of these illustrators are. things like D. Gray Man, Fullmetal Alchemist, Chainsaw Man, Berserk, Claymore, Dorohedoro, and of course Golden Kamuy is on that list as well... actually, Mob Psycho 100 would be interesting to look at too, but for kind of a different reason. the illustration style was expertly adapted for the anime, but... yeah. there are just other reasons why it's interesting to compare.
idk, I wouldn't want to put too much work on you, but you said you had moderators? if they could just like, select a few non-spoilery pages, covers, and/or single illustrations for you to look at, and you could just go through and do a quick compare for a bunch of series that you've looked at before... that'd be _SUCH_ a cool video.
Gekidou is one of those openings that you really should check the full version. UverWorld has a lot of amazing songs used in anime openings like Core Pride, Touch off, colors of the heart and so many others...
D gray man one of the most underrated shonen series
The manga of this anime actually continues long after the anime ends. It was one of those anime that it was disappointing that it ended because it was truly good and there was still original content to be adapted but something regarding the contract between the studio and the manga editor made it stop.
It is a bit older but it was epic.
There wasn't much content to adapt as the author didn't release weekly. infact we get like 1 or 2 chapter every year sooo yeah
Anime adaptation stopped because after 4 years of going through and keeping up with titans like One Piece, Bleach and Naruto... Author burned out and fell ill... So he took a long time to recover but never did fully, manga was moves to montly-bimontly journal so he can keep up.
Eventually he even got second anime adaptation D. GRAY-MAN which adapred New story arcs but still story is not finished despite starting in 2000s.
@@Ghostel3591 Well won't deny health may be an issue but my guess is also the series didn't sell as well as they hoped on top of that since at this point they've got more than enough content for 1 or even 2 seasons for a few years now but no new season announcement...and while it may suck they easily could pull a Full Metal Alchemist (original series) anime specific ending to wrap up the anime if only to resolve the anime series...hell could even use notes the author gives for his own planned ending to finish it up, especially if the author may be concerned that he may not be able to finish even the manga due to his health (or even concerns of possibly passing away)...book authors like the original Wheel of Time series writer Robert Jordan did that and left notes behind when his health was declining and he was pretty sure he was gonna pass away before finishing the series (which he did and Brandon Sanderson came in to complete the final 3 books based off the notes he left behind).
Hell...doing that may FINALLY get the Song of Ice and Dragon Series (Game of Thrones book series' actual name) finished as George R. R. Martin obviously doesn't care enough to finish it himself.
@@ifrit1937 Nothing will sell well when you had 1 year long pause before serialisation in manga picked up. And D.Gray-man sold well - like Fairy Tail levels of well (it literally came to fill the void left by it)
Original 4th season anime ended up VERY close to the manga. And then author got very ill - and story clearly was at midpoint at best. So it was concluded that stopping at where last story arc ended is better than some random ending - especially considering we had a long runner series. Instead of writing some random ending - As a result it was just put on a long Hiatus - like Fairy Tail and Bleach at some point also did though for other reasons - but here is an example of how "Anime long runner ends".
Then slowly over 8 years new material accumulated for 5th season to be made.
Cases like FMA getting a full anime reboot with full manga adaptation were possible for completely other reasons:
- first - it was a monthly manga and there wasn't that many episodes to "re-adapt";
- second - original anime ended with its own ending because there was not a lot to adapt left. Manga was still being released at a steady pace each month.
- third - reboot happened because FMA actually got even MORE popular the closer manga got to ending.
You can see other cases of such "reboots" happening or not for monthly manga:
- in case of "HELLSING" where it had Anime first... Then after it was over got rebooted into OVA series which strictly followed manga.
- And "Soul Eater" where it just got 36 episodes with a new ending. Manga wasn't "legendary" levels of popularity when it ended - so manga ending was never adapted. Then "Soul Eater NOT" spin-off manga got adapted as a short 12-series anime. (Because new stuff based on a franchise sells better and it being more of slice-of-life anime - cheaper to animate unlike its action based original)
There was no quarrel between Hoshino-sensei and the studio. She suffers from a very painful chronic disease that got worse around the time the first part of the manga ended (the one that was adapted to the first anime). However, due to the success of D.Gray-Man, Shonen Jump magazine allowed her to put the story in hiatus for 2 years and then move it to a monthly serialization instead of weekly. unfortunately her health issues have continued and her manga was moved once again to a quarterly magazine property of JUMP, but as far as I know the next manga arc is going to be the last.
Opening 3 was our favorite op song bc of how the instrumental, vocals during the pausing instruments, and changing tempos was so good and easy to rock to. Too bad it isn't ur cup of tea, the other op songs with rock were ok. As a kid when I first heard, the rock songs sounded similar to each other and that's probably why opening 3 just stood out bc it was different from the usual rock. Now as an adult, I can differentiate the other opening songs. But for nostalgia reasons, opening 3 is still my fave
Like he said , it's more about 3 being your (great) but more regular fare , compared to the other 3 . Even the first OP , despite technically being from TM Revolution a great , but overused artists in anime back then , still stands apart from most of his previous works
D.Gray-man was the first anime I ever watched fully, so it has a special place in my heart and I'm so happy you reacted to the openings!
It's dark, kinda messed up but also has it's moments with humor. Definitely worth watching.
This was one of my top favorite animes when I was a teen. Abingdon boys school (who did OP for D.Gray-man) toured europe when the anime was super popular and I attended the concert in my country. It was just awesome experience :D
On a side note: First season of D.Gray-man is the lightest and from there it gets quite dark. And you're right, it has that kind of halloween-ish vibe.
Literally started reading D. Gray Man last year after dusting off the collection I had and man is it such an amazing story from what I've read up to! Love love love everything about it! 🥰
I've been obsessed with D.Gray-Man since day one. It's an underrated masterpiece. The more you watch and read the more small details you find out and I've been mind blown so many times by it. Definitely recommend you to watch and read the manga.
DGM is one of the first anime/manga that broke the main character cliche of shounen anime and it's just brilliant through and through.

FINALY. this was the anime that got me into anime. i may have watched other before but this was where i really felt this is it we have reached peek entertainment. sadly this is the one time where it actually is cancelled despite having so manny openings and about 100 episodes. you will feel pain when watching it because you will know that it never gets a resolution despite ramping up so hard in the last quarter but if you like dark anime this is the one for you
Hopefully the author can pull through for us and have it receive the Bleach treatment (though there is Hallow so there's that)

Man it's been a while since I've watched/read D.Gray-Man, but it is really good. I highly recommend you watch it.
Although it has its lighthearted moments, it's quite an emotional and melancholic series. As the plot progresses, it gets darker and sadder, and it weights on the characters a lot, especially on the protagonist, who is kind and idealistic. However, he still manages to find hope and push throught, and I really like that.
Hell yeah, I remember loving Lenalee ‘Badass Boots’ Lee from the moment I saw her activate her kickyboots in the first OP. I love a character who focuses on kicks.

A pretty forgoten anime, but still remains in my heart :´) Sadly the manga is so slow, but im so invested with the story it worths the wait

DGM is comedy, action and drama dark as hell, never knowing who the real bad guys are .

D.Gray-Man was the first anime and manga that got me truly emotionally invested and one of my all-time favorite characters from fiction is from this series. It also taught me blasphemy but that's a separate topic maybe 😅

I still have around 10 months of content to check out till I become up to date with your channel but I hope someone has mentioned "terror in resonance" to you at some point it has such a great story imo and it's very short definitely recommend at least checking it out in your own time the story goes so deep and dark it lowkey scarred me for life lol but it was such a good experience

One of the best shounen ever. I’ve reread D.Gray-Man so many times. Allen Walker is arguably my favorite if not one of the top, best written protagonist ever imo. This series has made me cry so many times I wish it was more well known
A classic anime!
You can bet that this series inspired a lot of the Dark Fantasy/ Demon Hunting anime/manga that came after it, Allen Walker (The MC) is pretty much the original Tanjiro (Demon Slayer).
If the series wasn't plagued by the author's poor health and slow release schedule, it would have become much more impactful in the anime scene. It had a chance to be up there with the most popular Shonen of the time!
I honestly find it amazing that Hoshino-sensei still keeps going regardless of everything (including having to relearn how to draw with her non-dominant hand...)

d gray man was one of my first animes. Its an epic journey the music is insane the animation still holds up even if its an 2006 anime. Back then we had 4 openings and 4 seasons then we had to wait 8 years for the season 5 that's why it didn't really continue the punk rock theme it had back then. Would recommend to anyone since the journey as i said before is insane. It has funny moments sad moments, it has everything.
D Gray Man is one of my favorite animes, undervalued because of the hiatsus it has had due to the Mangaka's health problems.
But I still recommend it, it has 116 episodes divided into 2 seasons and is quite attached to the manga.
As you say, it has dark touches but also humor, the plot is interesting, as well as some of the best scenes I've seen in anime.

D. Gray man is one of my absolute favorites. I found the anime when some of the earlier episodes were playing on a projector in a library I was in. I immediately had to check it out and it only got better from there.

This is one of the greatest shonen ever created. It's criminally overlooked.
D.Gray-Man Hallow took 8-10 years to come out. The manga author's health has deteriorated so severely that she can barely draw a chapter per year. We're on volume 27 right now. We may have to wait a few more years for the next one.
D. Gray-Man is a pretty solid show. It is pretty dark for a shounen series and let’s just say almost every character has a BRUTALLY sad backstory.
The one unfortunate thing is the show does end (before Hallow) on a cliffhanger because, well, the good old fashioned show wasn’t renewed for a fifth season for eight years…and even then, that last season came out in 2016…who knows if we’ll ever get any more seasons. There is still a lot of content to adapt, so if you do decide to watch it, just keep in-mind that it hasn’t truly ended.
I'd say Lavi's backstory isn't as brutal but I love the fact we still have no idea how the bookmen fit into all of it since they're obviously a core piece of the war.
So first, answering your call: how could you not check out Nana ops&eds yet?! Music is an integral part of this show and makes its story, you won't regret listening to it.
Thank you so much for this reaction ❤man it's so nostalgic. It was my first anime and it's still one of my favourites. It was early 2008 I remember it like yesterday. Thanks to this anime I started my adventure in m&a fandom and met so many wonderful people (including my husband ;D) The broadcast ended a few months later in September, so I could binge-watch most of the episodes (cuz' it started in 2006). I love the story, the characters, the art style and the music of course. First ending Snow Kiss (by Nirgilis) has been my ringtone for so loooong.
The manga has been on hiatus several times due to author's health issues but fortunately since 2015 D.gray-man is serialized in quarterly magazine so we have one chapter every 3 months - better this than nothing ;)

Its an old show, so it takes a few episodes to get the story going, but once it does.. man.. cant stop thinking about the stories there. It captured my heart for years and it has one of the MOST amazing story
I'm just smiling overall when you reacted and listening again to openings. The ending songs and other ost's are beautiful as well. D.Gray-Man is a masterpiece from anime to manga.

Opening 4 is called Gekkidou, I highly recommend you to listen the full version, that son is amazing. It's by Uverworld, a band that has a looot of openings all of them wonderful songs. 🧀

How nostalgic. It has been like 10 years (except for the last one) since I've seen these, but liked them all pretty much. I totally forgot that there was a follow up season after the 104 episodes a few years later.
This is and always has been my favourite anime/manga since I discovered it. It has a nice Gothic style and the characters are great. The feels do be hitting deep tho.
I do recommend watching the Endings too. They're beautiful to listen to.

This is a very good throwback anime. It still on going in a very slow pace since the author has health issues. The manga updates slowly, the 5th opening was actually a season that was released recently. It's more dark than gorey. Very iconic creepy vibes and music. Should watch!

I absolutely adore DGM. It has been one of my favorite stories for almost 2 decades now ever since the sneak peek chapter we got in the american version of Shonen Jump. But the best/worst thing about it is that it is still an ongoing story. Much like the author of Hunter x Hunter, DGM's author also has a lot of health issues and put the series on hiatus a number of times but right now pretty consistently being published in a quarterly magazine so i only get 4 chapters of it a year.

Edit: I've finally watched the video and I'm really, REALLY glad that you liked the openings. D.Gray-man is one of the most underrated anime (and manga) ever in my opinion. The story is kinda dark and very emotional, especially regarding the characters' backgrounds.

This is so nostalgic! I loved this anime so much back on the day (oh my youth...)! I sing those 4 songs until this day, I know all the lyrics! Unfortunately I don't know how it ends, cause I remember it entered on a hiatus and when it got back I had forgotten everything so I couldn't keep up anymore (that's why I don't know that last song), maybe someday I'll rewatch everything cause I remember the story was really interesting and I loved Allen Walker so much!
I was a big fan of D.Gray-Man when it was airing. The anime ended after 103 episodes. There follow up, D.Gray-man HALLOW was a shorter show 13 episodes. The Manga is still going though, since 2004. I think the 3rd one was my favorite opening. The author/artist of the manga Hoshino Katsura suffered an injured wrist is the reason why her progress slowed down suddenly in 2008. I hadn't caught up in anything since 2008. I need to do that one day. I actually till recently thought the manga stopped all together.

Definitely recommend watching this! Also i love how you don't ever diss openings like many reactors do (Example diss the opening because the music isn't maybe to your liking etc without giving constructive criticism)

I came back home from work tonight and saw this new reaction video. Watched D Gray-Man when I was in junior high school and listening to all the openings with you, it just brings back all the memories. So nostalgic.
Anyway~for music requests, strongly recommend you to listen to the ost from Made in Abyss-the two pieces with vocal, ‘underground river’ and ‘Hanezeve Caradhina’, Magical songs. I bet you’ll want to watch the show after listening.
Also, PLEASE WATCH Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, that’s the absolute all time classic. You won’t regret it👍👍
D.Gray-Man is definitely a must watch
if you liked these songs i definitely recommend listening to the 14th melody. i prefer the cover LeeandLie had done as she did an amazing job and you can really get a sense for the tone with the lyrics. its also from D. Gray Man and i can listen to it on repeat for hours. all in all if you listen to either the original song or the cover, they are both great and when used in the show add a completely new tone for the scenes that it is in.
probably one of the most or the anime that defines the word underrated, dgrayman is just epic, the plot is amazing, the character developments are freaking amazing, allen is a pretty awesome main character, and the openings, the openings are just out of this world.
opening 3 is my favorite, but it have a different feeling for the ones that were watching the anime when it was coming out, there was an event that happened while the second opening was on (the card in the end settles it), and there were lots of tension from where the story was going, the struggle was real, the enemies were getting stronger, the twintail girl stepped up like crazy on the boat scene, but some really sad stuff happens, when opening 3 rolled out, it was a turning point for the anime, it was something like, THE HERO IS FINALLY BACK! and what a scene that was, the awakening of the crown clown was one of the most epic and badass things that happened on this anime, and it shows on this opening, thats why it hits a bit different to us
musicwise, 4th opening is the best one, but tbh its kinda hard to pinpoint, every single one of those are awesome

I never actually watched all the openings in a row, and I just noticed the last two end on the exact same shot but with a different theme to it. I really love that. That shot isn't even in the canon plot, it's established as pre-canon (pretty early on if I remember right so I don't think that counts as a spoiler) but you can see how it haunts everything that happens in the anime.
And then there's the ending shot of opening 2. They were absolute bastards for that one. They knew exactly what they were doing.

After recommending the Re:Creator Openings and endings, another reaction I would love to see from you is to a not so well known show: Darker Than Black.
It has 3 openings and 3 endings (4 endings if you count the OVA ending) and as an "older" anime (2007 if I remember correctly), I think it would be a nice one for you and your community to discover.

D gray man is a sad situation the author has chronic health problems and can only publish 4 chapters a year and pretty much burned bridges with the anime industry
Man...dgray man is a blast from the past. I got in through the manga when I was in like high school in like 2005...and then got into the anime not too long after...Allen and lenaelee were my favorite characters and of course the music and openings were amazing. Abingdon boys school/TM revoluiom and uverworlds openings were always my favorite. Hard rock of the era was just great especially japanese rock in the 2000s...
