the situation with this series is actually pretty sad because the original author has terrible arthritis and she's constantly fighting to release 4 chapters a year of varying page numbers and she's had numerous legal battles too her condition got so bad that she had to take 8 years off but she really wants to finish this series so she's fighting the pain to continue the story

It's interesting you mention the stylistic difference between the first anime and Hallow because they both follow the authors art-style very closely. She used to draw in a very gothic art-style because she was a former assistant to the artist of Death Note. By the time Hallow was announced her style took a real 180 and become very vibrant and colorful.

The manga artist's health has declined so severely that she can barely draw a chapter per year. The series is on volume 27 right now. We may be waiting a few years for the next.

One of the best and darkest Shonen's of the early 2000s. The story isn't about just fighting, it's very deep, dark and complicated. It covers deep themes by addressing many existential issues relevant to today still. It is a story that forces you to slow down, and pay attention. It has foreshadowing from ep 1 relevant to the manga today. The author has health issues, so it has a slow release schedule, hence sadly why it has fallen out of the radar but in its day it was MASSIVE. Due to this it definitely became a source for many works that came afterwards. Demon Slayer, for example, and controversially drew a significant amount from D. Gray-Man. Though arguably D. Gray-Man did it much better as well, in terms of world building, premise, character development and plot consistency form the very beginning. It's definitely worth a read/watch. As for the aesthetic the author said so herself: the story is too dark. If the style is too serious it will not only be overwhelming for thee audience which is teen boys. (shone) but also will be overwhelming to get into a headpiece to writ and illustrate constantly. This cheerful halloween style contrasts the overall dark tone. The manga now, which still releases quarterly, has drastically changed and surpassed its own previous style. And has now become more shojou like. But since the story has become darker I feel as a reader this call form the author made total sense.

Nick Ifill yes. The anime cut some things to not offend people (things the reminds people of religion) that are interesting and give better lore. They cut a huge amount of material for hollow...and the most important thing is that it continues from where the anime left. (I would recommend to at least go back to the start of hollow if not the beginning and continuing from there as the anime cut some information there)

The stupid candle scene hounts me even many years later. This thing is really dark. It's unique in the way that the story is extremely strong and there is same villain the whole time. It's also damn painful. You can hardly find shounen protagonist having harder life. It's terribly painful to watch his story.
The nostalgia hits really hard with these. Honestly, a huge part of my personal tastes can probably be attributed to watching this as a kid. I know for a fact that Tyki Mikk (I know, the names in this show are awesome) is responsible for me loving top hats and suits as much as I do at least.

Man I love the show but after it ended the magic dissapeard couse of the change in disignes animation voice actors huge plotwist changed this show in a way that is not appealing for me whatsoever I just can't enjoy it at this point...
