BOLDcast the deal with Gintama when you get through it is though, is that it teaches us so much, to cherish the day to day. It’s a one of a kind show, and I’ve seen all the longer shows that exist. Fairy Tail, Black Clover, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece (all of it), Bleach, Naruto, Dragon Ball(all of it), my hero academia,. It’s a hilarious show that knows how to be serious when it wants to. Definitely watch it on your own and by the time you get to opening 9 you’ll start running into reaction worthy episodes quite often

It's an anime series made by an anime fan for anime fans. It's like all the best parts of the Simpsons and South Park, but with feels and action thrown in. On the record, my Number 1 favorite anime of all time.

Gintama is basically the Deadpool of anime. It breaks the 4th wall left,right and centre. It parodies every other anime out there. One can describe Gintama as 75% comedy, 10% a great story, 10% badass fight scenes and 5% emotional rollercoaster.
Id say 100 % great story even the comedy part fits into the story 😂

Gintama is one of the most beloved show in Japan, it is equivalent to their Simpsons. The studios cannot afford to mess this up, which is why while they're not high budget everything about the anime is made with care. The fact that the studios themselves love the series also helps.

Gintama is one of the few shows that the fillers are pretty fucking good. And the whole show is a must to watch. In the beginning is a little slow-paced but it gets better and better.

If you're curious about why every op's so good, you'll find part of the reason in the fillers. The anime staff has a blast animating this show and they love it to the point where they constantly have to apologize to higher-ups and angry parents for the crude jokes and daring style, yet STILL don't censure a single one. Since the anime is self-aware, they can really go all out with the fillers and have the characters chat about how the production budget is low and they get complaints all the time lol. The only fillers you shouldn't watch are ep 1 and 2 cause they confuse the hell out of people. If you do a reaction on youtube, I'll definitely tune in!
PS: for all those interested, you can hear the director (the old man inside Elizabeth!) and other staff members/voice actors talk about Gintama in a eng subbed interview for the release of the Benizakura Movie (available on RUclips). The love is real.

Yeah, I think even when Sunrise created the subdivision studio, B.N. Pictures, the team just moved with them so that they could continue to work on the show.
They both love working on the anime and deeply respect the creator.
One of Gintama charms. We feel connected with everyone. Characters, mangaka, anime staffs, and even the live action actors (I feel bad for Shogun actor 🤣). It's like we are also an important part of the anime.

One thing that I really regret in my life was putting Gintama on my plan to watch list for years.
When I finally watched it together with my brother, oh my it was one of the best entertainment I've ever had in my life.
If you feel like you want to watch the show, please do it now and don't put it on hold for too long.
Gintama is not only known for their memes and insane 4th wall breaking habits, and also how is the comedic aspects able to hide the true serious nature of the show, but also how they makes every "seems-unimportant" episodes tied neatly into the storyline much later on.
Definitely worth checking out. Especially it will be different from any of the shows you are currently reacting to.
@E.D Gaming That isn't necessarily true tho. You are not expected to know all of the references. Even if you have watched tons of anime, there is high chance you don't get the references regarding Japanese reality shows, games, trending topic in Japan at the time, etc. Heck even some Japanese didn't know some of the references unless they do research after the fact. But that is fine too. It's fine if you don't understand some of the references because knowing after the fact is fun too.
Watching Gintama helped me went through some of the hardship, rough times, or even just a plain badmood in my life. Because even talking about it with my brother was just really a fun thing to do.
What I regret was there was some period in our life that we hoped we had watched Gintama at the time. And able to tell ourselves; "this is nothing. See, we can still laughed our asses off from watching a show".
And not to mention the older you gets, the less time you have to watch anime. Because of classes, busy being an adult or just being a member of the society. lol
So it's always best to start a long series early on.
I feel like Gintama is that one show that you *should* watch late in your anime lists, idk, it just makes the experience more fun if you understand and can relate heavily with the puns, jokes, etc.
I watched Gintama before when it was aired on TV and there was this episode where they were in a hunted inn(?)
And they referenced historical people like Oda Nobunaga etc. And the called the ghosts "stand" and the me at that time, not knowing who tf they are and not watching JoJo didn't understand what was happening.
Sure, the banter was fun still but after I decided to binge watch Gintama when I'm older and knows a lot of things in Anime and Japan in general, that episode was absolutely hilarious for me.
It just made a difference watching it with some knowledge of the references

Gintama, yes, this is the only anime that cannot be or rather should not be compared to any other anime. I have watched a lot of anime and i would and most people who have finished Gintama would say that all the shows like Hunter x Hunter,Jojo,One Piece or AOT can fight for second as Gintama for me is undoubtedly no. 1 and you guys will say the same too after watching the show. The anime has not finished completely as a movie will come out on 2021 adapting the final chapters of the manga, dont worry u guys did not get spoiled about shit and i would say watching the more popular longer shows first is advisable as watching Gintama will be more enjoyable that way.

Yeah, I agree. You guys (and many others out there) inadvertently did yourself a solid holding out on this anime, because it has parodied A LOT of other series; on top of it's other parodies in pop culture and satire towards Japanese culture.
Even with some of the opening sequences that didn't click with you during this run, it might be even better once you've invested in the series and got context. (It definitely was like that for me with Light Infection (op 8).)
And there isn't a need to worry about the fillers in this anime. Because even with the rare few that show up in the series, you can't even distinguish it from the official content given the nature of the show. It just blends that effortlessly to the set.
And while I myself am still revisiting the series from scratch, it is without a doubt the top of my list, followed by One Piece, My Hero Academia, Jojo, and Hunter x Hunter to name a few. It's quirky yet consistent nature continues to stand the test of time, whereas many series that came out alongside it or afterwards unfortunately lost steam the further they went on, so you'll rarely be met with disappointment.
You will no doubt laugh hard, cry hard, and feel deeply inspired as you watch this classic among classics, and will probably have quite a few followers who will enjoy watching your reactions if you decide to make it a Let's Watch series.
Plus, since you've watched a good number of anime before, odds are you may just find a cast of familiar voice actor legends among them. 😉

In case you guys watch it, start from episode 3 . Because episode 1 and episode 2 are adaptation celebration content , not actual episodes. For other fillers you guys definetly should watch because there are just few and sometimes they are better than actual comedy episodes

No other anime combines nonsense comedy, dramatic backstories, and epic sword fights like Gintama. The humor and trolling is so beyond, the 4th wall itself ceased to exist in the show. A masterpiece you never thought a gorilla wanting to be reincarnated as a hamburger could write.

Seeing Carson and lindsey praising and loving the openings of Gintama just put a big smile on my face.
As a Gintama fan I'm just happy to see reactors genuinely loving and enjoying the show plus they enjoyed this more than Black Clover and FairyTail which has some Godly Openings.

The Manga did end but the anime hasn't finished yet. They're doing a movie to end Gintama.
As for the fillers, Most of Gintama feels like filler because it is an episodic anime, Plus there isn't much filler anyway.

Do gintama endings 1-30 they are as good if not better than the openings and episodes 1-2 are filler to celebrate the series getting an anime and the rest of the series barely has any filler but even the few episodes that are filler/recaps are hilarious and shouldn’t be skipped
Yeah totally. The first two episodes are really the only ones you'd wanna skip. I didn't even notice the rest of the fillers, there is no telling if you ask me.

To this day I am indebted to SPYAIR (Samurai Heart) that convinced me to go back and read the manga/watch the anime after I dropped it.
That was well over 6 or 9 years ago.
Its not as grand and have big budget like any popular show that you should watch but all im gonna say is gintama is a definitely must watch once a lifetime..its too great to be left in the dust..

Facts I came across long ago: Basically studio staffs were bored so they create the paint version using theirs non-dominant hands and just go with it while in the anime the excuse is Sorachi (mangaka) got taken out (for certain reason 👁👄👁) hence no original artist so they just do anything
And YES Gintama is the kind of anime that has the balls to do the craziest shit

tama means balls, but the kanji used is the one for spirit which can also be read as tama, so it does literally mean silver soul, but there is a bit of a joke you can read it that way especially with kintama which uses the kanji for gold and spirit, but also is the word for testicles.

The MS Paint opening of "Light Infection" was a parody special created by the staff for a specific mini arc in the series.
I won't go into the details since I shouldn't spoil you on what happens in the arc, but there is a story that the animation team at the time was messing around and trying to redraw the opening sequence for this season on MS Paint; but using their non dominant hands.
Someone among their higher ups saw this and thought it'd be a great idea to use it as a gag to replace the original for the upcoming arc.
They thought he was joking when he said that....he wasn't joking. 😅
I've watched around 200 anime , and Gintama is my favorite by far. It has the "realest" character cast ever. They just joke around like idiots , trying to hide some pain or emotional baggage.. At the beginning it seems like a comedy with the plot going nowhere , but it's definitely noty. It has this flow between comedy and drama that no other show has.. one second you're laughing , and a second later your eyes are watering up. They know when to make you laugh , and when to hit you hard in the feels.. I cannot recommend this to everyone sadly , because the start is slow and you need to watch to get invested , but once you do ..holy shit does it get good. I don't think it will be a problem for you two , because you seem to have watched enough anime and learned to appreciate the details from what I've seen in your reactions.
Anyway you were asking about OP 19 , cause it seems more cheerful than the rest. It is because it's all the filler episodes combined into a season. From episode 300~ the anime starts getting heavy into the story and plot , and they didn't want to break up the tone with filler comedy. That's why they took all the episodes into a comedic only filler season. But don't get me wrong , even the serious arcs still have loads of comedy .. it is just relevant to the main story and it's freaking hilarious.
Gintama is not a shounen tho , it has like 20 genres , and when it decides to be a shounen , it does it better than most .. same for comedy or drama. It also has sick endings , some of them have still shots like most endings , but the songs are amazing. You should react to them if you want to continue the journey , some people like them better than the openings.

- People who haven't watched Gintama
- People who have Gintama in their top 5
EDIT: Ngl, Gintama probably started the whole Paint parody opening thing. The actual story is that they did that opening because of something that happened at the end of the previous episode. It's a spoiler though, but it's related to the show's production; the manga has a similar joke.
EDIT 2: IN CONTEXT, opening 20 is one of the hypest. It goes through several iterations as more characters show up, and it showcases how the whole cast comes together to fight. It's one of my favourites, actually.
As a die hard Gintama fan I’m so glad I found a channel that watched all versions of the intros. I’m even more happy because of the positive reviews of the openings.
You guys should watch the filler, there might be an episode that flops here and there but overall you will laugh, cry, even get mad at the show at one point but you will love every minute of it
Gintama is just a complete package of anime.. everything you can find in this show.. imagine all genre of anime become one of masterpiece.. and i dare to say that Gintama has the best MC of shounen anime character.. beat me.. and even you get spoiled of this show.. its still cant compared while you watch the actual show.. The comedy and the serious arcs in the show are all great. And the fillers are good there is no reason to skip them they’re like every comedy episode in the show. And in case you guys do a reaction start with ep 3 because ep 1 and 2 are specials celebrating the adaptation and they spoil the characters that will appear later.

OP15, Pride Kakumei, is legit one of my favorite openings in anime, and I haven't even seen the show. There's something about it, idk. The song's just great, and I love how the scenes are structured.
you should defo check it out, as a comedy anime the author is so great at building up long stories and setting up arcs with comedy that pays off in later seasons
there are only about 20 filler episodes in Gintama and all of them are great, i'd only say skip episodes 1 and 2 as those were made for manga readers and to celebrate Gintama getting an anime and features many characters that don't show up for a while. But whenever you start it we're sure you'll love it, Myanimelist isn't the best ranker of quality out there but Gintama takes up 50% of the top 10 for a reason.

think of a genre for a show, and u will probably find it in some form in gintama. Comedy, romance, shounen, seinen, action, psychological etc. the author is a genius. Whenever he tackles each thing, he does a ridiculously good job at it. Especially the later parts. The beginning was decent, but the later parts are crazy good.

I hope you see this: don’t watch the first and second episodes, or as they are know the special episode, because it’s a special celebrating the fact that the show is now animated. You won’t know anything that happens, and it’s skipable until you know what happens. ALL OTHER FILTER ARE IMPORTANT: it builds the characters for you and within those filters the story is in them as well. Really only the first 2 episodes, know as the special episode I think, should you skip but that because it’s celebration and you won’t know what the hell is going on.

I think the reason gintama's ops are so good is that the production had so much liberty to do whatever they wanted with it for most of it and it seemed that they had fun making it

Gintama is definitely stays at the first in my recommendation list to anyone want to watch anime. It’s really worth it! (Btw, Start from episode 3 because the first two are "filler" which is the main Gintama cast celebrating the anime. Episode 3 is chapter 1)

The anime staff really put their heart and soul into the anime even the made for tv non manga filler comedy episodes are made which such love and care that I have never seen
Gintama is a god tier anime which cant be compared to any other anime
I think the story for this show is amazing but there are soooooo many references to other anime and i feel like you’d really need to have a good understanding of other animes as well to fully enjoy gintama.

The dog name is Sadaharu. He has many really great episodes centered around him. Personally my favourite is episode 265. One of the best one episode story in Gintama. It doesn't have any spoiler, you can check it out.

I have never watched the show but was curious enough to watch all the openings. I'm grateful to the patron for putting in the special openings as well. I laughed my guts out with the MS Paint opening
I could not recommend a show to watch any more than this, truly a gem to get you laughing your ass off, and crying to the point of needing emotional support.

This show is the most random thing you’ll ever see. This show is hilarious but it’s an “acquired taste”. If you love the first 20 episodes you’ll love the whole show otherwise probably not
I didnt exactly like the first 40 eps but after Benizakura the comedy got better. So id say if you arent watching every ep after Benizakura then you wont like it.

This anime simply got everything. Action, Comedy, Sad moments, Wholesome moments, Epic scenes.
Great characters. Definetly a must watch in my humble opinion.
i also enjoyed the filler episodes they are more on the comedy part, it didn't bother me since i love Gintama sense of humour overall.
and yes The Dog is cute all the way to the end ^^
Gintama is an awesome anime,it can be very emotional and funny,but I would recommend you to watch more episodes so you can gradually find out how great the show is
If you are planning to watch Gintama, skip episode 1+2 but watch all the episodes including fillers. Gintama fillers are the greatest.
You should definitely react to the endings, openings are over but there's still more to see :)

Good comedy and very good serious arcs. I recommend watching it until at least the benizakura arc (around episode 70)
Op 8 is actually is actually my favorite. It doesn't feel good at first but once you keep listening and know the story it's awesome.

Opening 12 is not so Special for me (Im watching first time in Gintoki ver. In eps 138 (rerun)) until kintama arc.
A very very good reaction , one of the most complete Gintama opening reaction ;I liked that you saw how much the production loved making this show (in the show the 4th wall is always broked ), Gintama is so good , everyone that ended it loves it a lot , people who talks bad about often hasn't surpass the episode 50 ( the story is slow at the beginning and only comedy but then there the is first serious arc and serious arcs are AMAZING, you skipped opening 10 that is very good

Out of all the reactors I watched you guys are the best! The last ending really hit me cause gintoki was walking alone which is something we never saw in any op. I love the anime and I hope you guys watch it! At first it's just comedy but if you still stick into it then I'm sure you'll cry at emotional scenes and get hyped at the fight scenes. Please watch it, you won't regret it!

At the end of op 21 when gin-san did that, i feel it really feel it even tho i haven't reach that point but it hurts. I feel like it'll be very impactful when it's ended, it's like when i finished sket dance. I know sket dance related to gintama that's why it gave same vibes but this show it's very very AMAZING. And I'm sure after i finished gintama it will end up on my top3 anime for sure, i just know it will. Gin-san himself is my fav MC, even tho his appearance looks like that, but his personality his character is just amazing, when he started to say cool stuff actually it reached me his words very motivated has a deep meaning behind it. thats what i like about him.

OP19 chronologically takes place before OP17 and it subsequent OPs. This is why it went from serious back to silly.

-The anime ended 15 chapters before the manga ended, so instead of another season there’s gonna be a movie.

-Y’all need to do the Yorinuki Gintama OPs. Yorinuki Gintama is a “best of Gintama” rerun series, but it has its own OPs and EDs.
