@@introvertplayz2460 "Tama" has multiple meanings including "testicles" "egg" and "soul". The kanji used in the title is the one for "soul". While spelled out, "Gintama" means "Silver Soul", saying it out loud sounds like you're saying silver balls.

Gintama is a show that may have started as a gag show; full of puns and dumb references but it became one of those kinds of shows you grow up with like Pokemon. The title is a pun in itself, Gin means Silver in Japanese and Tama means Soul. The joke here is that Tama can also mean Balls. And this show uses those 'balls' or the groin area a lot.
The idea of this series goes somewhat like this: Silver. We all have that, silver dinnerware, loose change, etc. It has value but not that valuable. However, there are times where its value outshines anything else. Gintoki Sakata is like a deadbeat dad that honestly anyone would just punch him in the face but at certain points of the story, he shines like a true role model.
