How to Make Seamless Half Double Crochet Rounds

  • If you're like me, you hate the slanted seam (or any seam for that matter) that shows up when joining and beginning new rounds in crochet. I especially disliked it in my recent half double crochet project.
Using Lion Brand's newest yarn, For the Home Cording, the stitch definition is so distinct that even an Invisible slip seam stitch showed up. I decided to play around with the stiches until I came up with this new method of joining half doubles in the round. Not only is the seam BARELY noticeable at all, it is reversible! I hope you enjoy using this new technique as much as I have been!
If you're interested in the cellphone sling pattern that I am making in this video, you can find it for free on my blog at daysck.com or you can find a printable pdf for relatively little cost in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops at linktr.ee/days.... I dubbed it the Cell-faux Sak since it is so similar to The Sak's material.

I have been trying all the variations on YT creating invisible seams and this method is by far the most simple and easiest for a HDC. Thank you for sharing!

Finally, a technique that is simple but brilliant as it helps keep a straight seem as well as the pattern! Thank you so much, this is awesome.

I’ve been crocheting for over 15 years and always hated the slanted seam. This is a game changer!!! Thank you!

Brilliant! I love that you basically cut the Hdc in half to a sc + sl st. So when you close the round it just finishes another Hdc stitch. Very cool insight. 💡

I'm going to keep this video! Thank you for doing the experiments until you found the best solution! PS. I just found you today and am making a chunky yarn hat from your tutorial. It's easy once the pattern clicks in your head!😊

For next years project I want to make Christmas stockings for my grandchildren BUT the pattern I really like and have been working on for a Classic Stocking has the line throughout the stocking…this tip will work! I have been watching so many videos …but this makes sense and is EASY to do! Thanks for explaining it several times and with text as well. I had to write each step to get it into my brain!

I really love it. But I'm still struggling a bit. For me it would also help to show how you started this. Like you make a chain, you close it, and now what do I do?

not sure if I am doing it right, I still notice a slight slant. But maybe I've been missing stitches or smthg. Whatever, it is working and I can't see it if it wasnt for the stitch marker haha. Thank you!!

It's a very good tip, but what if i have to do a pattern that starts at the same stitch in everyround? This method will shift starting stitch in every round. Please help thanks!

Why don’t you just keep going instead of slip stitching? Just wondering.

    • @DaysCrochet

Hdc are too tall to work in the continuous round in my opinion

    • @rabeccahenderson4072

I was curious. A lot of people slip stitch to end rounds and chain up for the next. This is a neat way.
