  • To start off 2021, I am releasing short essays summarizing my feelings about last year. These essays have the following self-imposed rules:
-The scripts are less than 1000 words long
-They are not comprehensive essays about the subjects
-These essays are not indicative of my favorite pieces of media in 2020, rather the media that I felt encapsulates the year for me.
While there were a lot of games from 2020 that I thoroughly enjoyed, there were few that provoked thoughts in me like Final Fantasy VII remake. So as we wait another decade for part two of the saga, I want to consider the place of Aerith Gainsborough in our modern pop culture, and the impact her life and death might bring to a new generation.

I always felt like Aerith is only loved for her death by most fans. Which kinda sucks, since she is a great character with or without dying.

Personally i don't think they will stray too further away from og ff7 in a way it'll be unrecognizable. Someone will bite the bullet, it doesn't matter. Kepping things uncertain is the devs way of saying, "Yeah we recognize the fact that it's spoilt now, so let's give you hope and just crush them anyway."

Loved the video! I think there’s actually a new kind of tension for if Aerith dies. For one, it could function as a tragedy knowing the ending is sad but taking the journey anyway. That’s part of what stood out to me in Remake and what I felt the devs really succeeded on, your moments with Aerith are simple yet meaningful because now you have the context of her death in mind. It’s kind of like watching Romeo and Juliet, you know where things are going but that just makes the drama all the more investing.

I've been binging your videos all day today and I'm so glad RUclips recommended me to you!! Your videos like this one, the Cats video, and the history of the Moomins franchise made my day. Consider me a new subscriber! :)

I like that I can’t tell where they will go, it does stand to reason she would die because of what her death means for the overall story- but then it has no shock value if they don’t. However, I keep thinking someone else may die instead and it becomes a conflict of her character arc where she has to learn about moving on, she can beat herself up and say it should’ve been me it was supposed to be me and take her down from deified absolute good to very human
