    I got bitten by the passion for archery and started to shoot a couple of weeks ago. Last weekend I finally got enough plastic and burlap to make a proper target in my backyard. Spent 5 hours shooting non stop saturday and sunday with a 33 lbs bow. My middle finger doubled in size the following day, but luckely it is getting better and better. Lesson learned for sure! Thank you for this video. Will use this before I start shooting from now on.

    When I was young I coached skiing and would never let a student race without a warm up. Yet now that I'm 62 I don't warm up for archery. Thanks Wolfie for the reminder how important warming up is!

    Cannot express my appreciation for your videos on archery enough. Without them, I wouldn't have grown as an archer. I routinely share them with my fellow enthusiasts on Facebook and encourage them to come to your channel.
    Cheers.

    A good point well made. Despite being the person who leads the warmup routine and post training stretching for our HEMA group, I don't stretch prior to shooting. I shall rectify this next shoot.
    I must say that I prefer the dynamic movement to wake up my body and leave the stretching until after exercise, but thanks for the timely reminder.
    All the best

    Many many thanks Wolfie for passing on this very helpful information and not holding it back due to the fear of embarassing yourself! In fact to me this is the most sympathetic video of yours! (as a matter of fact almost all of them are great but in this case you've overcome a little demon inside you so it makes it something special even though it looks like something small)
    Keep up the good work! I wish you a looong lasting and healthy archery life and send you greetings from south-germany!

    Great to see a new and again very interesting video, thanks Wolfie! And man you're looking sharp! 😉 maybe one small thing, I would do some warm up first and stretch then. So I would keep that neck, shoulder, arm stretch exercise you show first, for the end.

    I suggest for first exercise, for neck stretch to be done without pulling your head with your other arm. Just use your neck muscle's to do that. You will get same effect and will not make a damage to delicate cervical spine. I damage neck in car accident (whip effect) and there are so many ppl who have problem with neck and need to exercise caution. Even on a healthy cervical spine you can induce damage if this is done incorrectly and with exaggerated force

    Thank you for this video! I am wondering...would you be willing to do a small video on selfbow/longbow care? particularly a yew English longbow?? or some other single stave natural bow, like Osage orange, Ash or Elm. There are no videos on youtube which show a person waxing/oiling a yew warbow, care for the timber, and waxing the string etc. If you are new to natural bows, pure timber, no laminates or fibreglass... it is very difficult to learn about bow care.. like 'warming up' the bow before use, how often would you need to oil it, how often to correctly wax the string, even setting up the bow, like stringing/unstring her, and storage.. do you lie her flat, or leave her upright. Just imagine teaching this to a complete novice... coming from laminates, and fibreglass... this is a whole new world to me. Thank you, and sorry for the long message!

    I do always the Jake Kaminski's warm up routine before any shooting session.
    Be careful, you confuse warm up and stretching.
    Warm up -> before session
    Stretching -> post shooting
    Doing stretching before a session can cause injuries because you can lengthen the muscle too much and they do not support anymore the join properly.
    During the warm up you must breathe as much as possible to oxygenate the muscles. If you do not breathe, you tire your muscles and it's as if you start shooting with 500 arrows behind you already.

    I love that you created a specific routine. I'm a little worried about the part where you put pressure on your neck though. Wouldn't it be better to just stretch your neck as far as you can?

    • @Wolfiesairbrush
      @Wolfiesairbrush  6 лет назад

      adam rowe ahh.. well maybe i should have been a little.more specific as to how much pressure isn't needed.. all you are doing is assisting the stretch in both directions...

    i would like to know where you got your ritghthand finger grips i have used different finger grips none of them suit me ad the stitching on the side on the fingers always cut into my skin and cause me a good bit of discomfort after about a half hour or so can use them one week and then on the second week my fingers are in a deal of pain because of the overlap with the stiching i use tabs which are ok but would prefer finger grips

    I've always been taught that stretching with your muscles cold can cause injuries. I've been told that warm-ups should be separated from stretching, and while warm-up goes at the beginning, the stretching part takes place after the activity. So, how do you think it should be?
    Of course, please avoid false dichotomy :)

    • @yugen
      @yugen 4 года назад

      Sounds right to me. Warmup should be about getting blood flowing in all of the muscles and joints you use. Stretching should be done afterwards.

    Excellent video Wolfie! My back and shoulders feel better already! I like that glove you're wearing. I tried to get a good look at it, but your hands seem to stay in motion all the time. Is there a place on the internet where it is for sale?

      I had the same question ever since I saw that glove in one of his early videos... I didn't find any info so I tinkered for some time and crafted one myself. Guess what? No shop would be able to sell me something as perfectly fitting as that selfmade glove.

    First off, thank you for so many instructional videos. You're great man. Secondly, I've just started firing arrows through a recurve as I feel more intune with these and traditional styled bows. Have made a few myself, OK off topic here but back to it. I have realized that whenever I actually try to aim and be precise I miss alot and have inconsistency. But if i just walk around and randomly throw the bow up with your frame technique but release as soon as I'm drawn than I almost always hit the kill spot from any distance up to 60 yards. I am having trouble understanding this.. am I just a natural instinctive styled shooter? Could it be I just possess that gift? I find it quite hard to just stand there and try to aim. I've always been an amazing pitcher when it came to baseball and I seem to always focus on the small things without question. Honestly I believe I am just an instinctive intuitively human. My questions are within this long paragraph lol, sorry about that. Anyways, thanks man.

      By the way, I do alot of bow fishing and I'm always quick with my instinct draw and release.

    Hey Wolfie i hope you read this and find time to respond to my question:
    I want to get a Scythian Recurvebow and think i go for a pricy Saluki Scythian. Do you think a Cupido Scythian2 would be compareable?
    Can you also recommend me some of your favourite bows of all times, if something like that exists?
    Thank you, and ll the best to you and your work!
    Julian.

    So I've seen videos on drawing on both sides to keep the muscles evenly worked. However, I cannot draw my bow with my other arm for the life of me. Any exercises that come to mind to get it to catch up? You're videos have already helped significantly with my shooting and I trust your ideas and methods :)

    • @TheMasonator777
      @TheMasonator777 6 лет назад +1

      Danielle Bryan Use a resistance band to train the opposite side. Start with a very light one. One that almost feels effortless.
      The first stretch in this video is highly dangerous. DO NOT pull on your neck. Period. I got badly injured doing it. My physio people universally told me to never do this.
      In fact, all stretches are dangerous, if done incorrectly. Pulling on your neck is incorrect.
      I do not agree with stretching without a first doing light movement exercises.
