    this has helped me alot, yesterday I hit a soda can at 70 yards on my first shot. the head bobbing trick is something I do religiously. I can feel my bow hand rasing to height on its own accord when I focus on the target, it's completely involuntary, love your videos!

    I have been an archer since 8 years old. When I was 15, I bought a laminated recurve blank that was 54# rated if the limbs were tapered. I did not taper the limbs according to instruction, had to become a gorilla to get full draw, then put my right eye out unstringing it around 4 months later. That was 41 years ago.
    To the point, I am a right hand shooter with one eye, the left eye. I have tried left hand bows and am unable to use them effectively. I still shoot a recurve built from a blank that is a right hand. I tried to develop sights for it, mechanical releases, finger guards and decided to just shoot naked in archery terms. My left forearm is bruised from the occasional crappy release, my fingers hurt (I am guitarist too), and I have no depth perception per stereo vision. But you are correct, the carbon computer God gave us will allow for adjustment when we keep it uncomplicated and try not to overthink things.

    Just wanted to leave a comment and thank you for your instruction. I'm a gun guy getting into traditional archery and Damn is it different. But it's enjoyable and I can retrieve my ammo this less expensive.

    I'm late to the party, still want to talk about my experiences shooting long distances as an instinctive archer: I shoot instinctively for close to 15 years now and long distances (I personally consider long at 45m+) have always been a problem to consistently hit with pure instinctive focus. I would most of the time need 2 or even 3 arrows to get the distance right, very rarely would I hit with the first arrow. I have been training and shooting those long distances like crazy, but it still didn't really go better, I always needed 2-3 arrows to hit. So I said "screw it" and started using the tip of my arrow at distances that I knew were over 40-45m (up until 40m i can shoot very accurately and consistently with just focusing a spot). And tada: I can now hit targets up to 60 meters very consistently because I just know whereabouts I must put my arrow tip above the target. I know, it is not instinctive anymore, but this was the only thing that really improved my shooting at those really long distances. Nowadays I shoot everything up to 40m purely instinctive and only use my arrow tip when I think the target is farther out than that. So I've become a sort of hybrid instinctive shooter because of those long distances. I am shooting traditional longbows and selfbows with wood arrows for anyone wondering.

    one of the more difficult thing to manage, according to me, is that the more you are far of your confort zone, the less your form is good.
    All is in the mind, and the key is to be confident!
    and to be confident, you must have fun :)

    thanks Wolfie, your videos have helped me see a few things ive been doing wrong, ever shot longbow? how does one just let the bow rest in your hand without the 'built in' grip of the bows you use? And the moving from side to side pre distance shots, have not heard that one, will try it tho! LLB

    wolfie, please let us know about the arrows you use and why you select them, do you use only wooden arrows to shoot from your traditional bows? what about hunting do use wooden arrows also for hunting too? do you build your own arrows or buy standard ones ? would you review arrows when you have time, thank you for sharing, you make great archery videos.

    Hey wolfie, like your channel. I've been in traditional archery only a few months and my arm still shakes a little when shooting, I think it might be the draw weight ( I have a #55). I'm not a weak guy, but I want something that'll give me a less of a shake, but I could still hunt with. Would a #40 bow be good for this?

    Great stuff guys !! Wolfie, question for you.. I've always had trouble shooting with wearing my glasses, I seem to shoot better(well better groups ) without them.. Any tips for "be-spectacled" lads such as myself ??

    • @Wolfiesairbrush
      @Wolfiesairbrush  10 лет назад

      There could either be a requirement to get your prescription looked at with regards to the 'sport'... as some adjustments may be able to be made to glasses you use just for shooting .. or try contact lenses.... the main thing is to do what works for you.. :)

      Wolfie Instinctive Archer Thanks very much for your help !! Would it help that my eye doctor be an archer as well ;-) ?? I tried to explain the last time I was there and they were clueless.. Just told me to pick out a pair of frames and see what I thought of them... They still set them up with me looking thru the top left corner of my glasses when shooting...lol Go figure ..

    Hey wolfie, i was wondering...
    since a few weeks i can train on 50m max, and between 40 and 50 meters my hand pops up in front of my field of vision(shooting 37pound falco spirit) meaning i cant focus on the target anymore.
    what would you do in such situations?

    • @wildrangeringreen
      @wildrangeringreen 7 лет назад

      use a heavier bow lol. add 25lbs or so to that draw weight and you should be good i use a 60 lbs laminate 71" longbow mostly and I can get out to around 70yds before my bow hand goes above my line of sight

    • @mathijs175
      @mathijs175 7 лет назад

      that would work if it would be legal to shoot it at most clubs/3d's, and i could draw it comfortably ;)

    Not being an archer.. Interesting observation. He hunches over when he shoots. leans to the right to sight. That means every time he shoots he has to rely on bending exactly the same. Notice how the posture of the guy with long hair never changes? The more parts move, the less accurate you are.

    • @sslavi
      @sslavi 7 лет назад +1

      What you say holds true for target or olympic archery, but not so much in instinctive archery IMO. You don't even aim, all the calcs are done instinctively by your brain after having it learned from thousands of arrows shot in all conditions and positions. Since you don't aim, the strict posture is of relative importance (again, IMO).
