Some controversial episodes (maybe 42 the OP is speaking about?) never got uploaded to Spotify - but they also did not get pulled DOWN from RUclips like the rest of his episodes did. So it's not really fair to say they're deleted, but Spotify definitely "omitted" some of the more controversial guests like Alex Jones, Milo, and Gavin - those in full length are still up on this channel.
Hindsight 20/20: Joe is talking about Spotify the same way people do when they know it’s a toxic relationship. “They’re great, they don’t want anything, just who I’m hanging out with”
Joe Rogan has weighed in on employees of Spotify allegedly pushing to censor episodes of his podcast Just wanted to write this comment, and I saw yours (oh wait I wrote it)
Yeah it's just an exclusivity deal for publishing, so he's only allowed to publish podcasts on spotify, but otherwise they want him to just keep doing what he's doing (which makes sense, considering his growth). It was labeled "multi-year", so who knows what the duration is. Maybe 5 years?
It's exclusive, which means they can pick and choose what is and isn't on their platform. They don't own his show, but they own the platform it resides on so they can veto any content they don't want on their platform. Joe is misrepresenting what his spotify deal actually means.
@@seanlopez3968 Yea, that is indeed the big asterisk. He's correct in saying they have no creative control, not limiting guests, no ownership, etc. etc., but they're certainly censoring certain videos by not uploading them to their platform. Those videos get uploaded to YT.
@@MrSlowestD16 Not exactly, no new videos get uploaded to youtube. If they were, this wouldn't be a problem or considered censorship. Joe knows what they can and can't say and do at this point, he is self censoring because he knows Spotify won't host the content if he gets too wild or speculative. Joe is being disingenuous because he knows this and acts accordingly, it's not like the old days where he can literally do whatever he wants. And let's not get started on Spotify itself which built its platform to essentially steal money from the smallest artists to give it to the biggest ones (AKA record companies).
@@seanlopez3968 You're right. I thought a full length was uploaded to YT at one point in the last year, but I couldn't find it. I think him self-censoring may have to do with more than just Spotify. The reason I say that is because he's been mentioning here and there in the last 2 years about guests that were sort of a mistake & also mentioned a few times being more careful due to the sheer number of listeners. Unfortunately we'll never know how that works, and Joe will never say. We'll just have to wait and see if Alex Jones or Shpairo comes back (Alex will be the real test). He's had them on multiple times before I don't think Milo will be back though. Trying to think who else was controversial that they raged about. As for Spotify's business model. Was that the goal or did that just end up being what happened?
This reminds me of the Call Her Daddy girls. Their podcast blew up instantly because of Barstool but in exchange, they lost their rights to the CHD intellectual property. Barstool profited immensely and Alex & Sofia didn’t feel like their piece of the pie was big enough anymore. They started with $70k/year + bonuses to a half million at the end of their first year. Then, they wanted seven figures plus bonuses. Plus their IP back. So the point is, I’m sure it’s tempting as an independent podcaster to sign deals like this. Bill’s advice would’ve been helpful for the girls before they signed. However, even then I imagine it would still be tempting to sign and start making real money and get immediate exposure (Alex mentioned not being able to make rent in NYC before CHD), instead of grinding for years in hopes of one day ‘maybe’ gaining success. Nobody knows if their idea will take them somewhere. It’s easy to see why podcasters will sign deals for peanuts at the beginning.
No they don’t I’m part of the agency and I actually find this funny. Talent always have shit to say about the agency when with a lot of talent they wouldn’t be anywhere without there agency not always but often
Bill is referring to the "360 Deal." This is what the labels did when their money pot went dry from selling the records, so they went after the artists primary source of income: touring and merch. This is why music has changed SO much. The concerts and merchandise were not controlled by the labels, so they didn't suck like they do now.
I saw this happen with a lot of RUclips kids when “Let’s Play” channels took off in a big way. Hearing them talk about it is quite similar to what they are talking about.
This is why more and more musicians are either staying independent or signing distribution deals. A fraction of the signing bonus and you pay expenses but you own 100% and they put it out there for you.
Y’all ever noticed the reason these two interact so well is because they’re the exact opposites? One guy is calm and can kick out your kidneys, and the other guy has anger issues but steps out of watching animal hunting videos 😂
It's weird how motivational it felt to hear them describe stuff at the beginning of the video. The whole "just hang in there and struggle a little bit" and "you have to grind and just hang in there and keep going" stuff, I've been busting my ass on my project for a couple of years now (I took about a 6 month break though, sucks when your health doesn't cooperate) and sometimes it feels like its going nowhere. But, it *is* gaining some momentum now and it's easy to forget the amount of work successful people have to put in before they get to where they want to be and how long it took some of them to get to where they are. The ironic part is that my entire schtick could be boiled down to "nothing worth having is easy". Lol! Life's weird. :P
Bill Burr, maybe you should be a management advisor? Sample deals, sample agreements, a legal team that only does stuff that you control so the artists are protected? You would get rich just looking after other artists.
Burr has his own podcast network that he runs called “All Things Comedy,” that produces a ton of comedians. His wife Nia, and her Dad are talent managers, (agents). Bill just likes his business model, total hypocrisy. Look it up.
Joey Diaz wouldn’t be a good mix with Alex Jones, Joey Hayes talking conspiracies for long periods of time, and Alex doesn’t like the language Joey uses. Now granted that was a looooong time ago on info wars that it happened.

I read a book called "Winning through intimidation". I forget the authors name. It was about him buying and selling realestate. He said there are 3 types of people in business. One type says I am your friend, I am looking out for you. I would never screw you. Then screws you. Another type in the end screws you and feels very bad about screwing you and sorry for screwing you. The 3rd type of business person tells you right up front, I am going to screw you. So the moral of the story is everybody is trying to screw you in business.

We need more people like Joe. Non snowflake, real and non apologetic.
My biggest customer was bought out by a big corporation in 2017. They replaced everyone in Mgmnt and then promptly screwed everything up. Cut 75% of their outside sales force, switched their computing backbone system and consolidated from 5 warehouses, down to 2 new warehouses. Everything was a clusterfk; to the tune of a 50% drop in sales, all the while their inventory was fubar, which caused them to over-buy. Not to mention, it took 6 months to get a payment out of the old system. Sales went from $100-150k/month, down to $3,000/month over-night, while they straightened out their inventory. No warning...
They then brought me in for a meeting; one of their top vendors for 25 years. That meeting was nothing short of a shake down. "We're going to need you to list who you buy your wholesale items from. And btw, we're going to need you to go back to the office and figure out how to make your company more efficient, so you can give us an additional 10% discount." I sh*t you not... This is a huge problem on RUclips as well. I helped run a RUclips channel for the last company I worked for and as soon as we had our first 1 million + view video, I had like 10 companies reach out trying to “manage” it with terrible terms. We’d already done the hard work, they just wanted to steal the profits from it.
I was on the other end of this, I had to keep partners from leaving these companies. I didn't always feel like it.

Wow, I didn't realize Joe' spotify deal was a not a ownership deal, well done Joe.

Joey Diaz wouldn’t be a good mix with Alex Jones, Joey Hayes talking conspiracies for long periods of time, and Alex doesn’t like the language Joey uses. Now granted that was a looooong time ago on info wars that it happened.
No Eddie Bravo.
To Bill's point, SPOT maid more than a billion after Joe's 100m announcement.
Then their stock went back down.
@@TedCutTheCheese Losing a couple of points compared to the 20+ bump they got aint much. Plus their stock will go higher when Joe completely switches in September.
They made* 5 billion.
I made a frozen pizza
Yeah but they didn't take from joe to get that money so this isn't the same at all
Thanks to both of you for this conversation… Send this to the masses.! Make a documentary, feature film on this topic. Can you imagine the stories from the artists that have been robbed and pillaged from the start.
11:01-11:04 joe begins take off
🤣🤣
In an alternate universe
Burr: hey joe pull that up
Burr: have you every tried Young Jamie?
?
🤯
Also in that universe ur actually funny
What?
@10:00 "That's them justifying their desk." I love it. The other day I went to some all you can eat place where you can get both your own drinks and your own food. The waitress came up after I sat down and was like, not sure how to justify her existence so I asked her to get some napkins. People want to feel useful even when they are not.
We already know that the first guest is Alex Jones, followed by Elon Musk.
Elon always first
Brenda schwab is definitely someone who's got a closeted podcast deal
So true
I could listen to These two for hours. I wish they would get together more often
I Bet the people who disliked this are managers and “hollywood accountants”
Or people with enough common sense to realise that if you sign ridiculous contracts your the idiot, not the person making the most of your stupidity.
James Blezard manager ^^
@@jamesblezard8562 yeah, no these hollywood contracts are pretty shiny on paper half the time a good lawyer couldnt tell you that they're trying to fuck you
