Wouldn't say so, maybe generally it has, but imo both look bad with all kinds of artefacts and for FF16, i barely was able to see a difference, only that both have same artefacts in the more noticeable places. It's a shame not even a 4090 can handle this game without that AI crap, this makes programmers lazy
@@perschmidt360 I'm like 1- 2 hours into the game and I'm using DLSS Quality on 3070 on 1440p. The game looks absolutely beautiful and is always locked 60fps without DLSS it's around 45-52 fps which is absolutely playable if you've a VRR monitor. I really don't think devs are lazy here. It's a great experience, if you use fsr Q ( which is not so great ) you can get 80-90fps all the time with frame gen on 3070 which is 3 years old card now and it's still a fantastic experience..
It's wild, man. 3080/13700k, and im getting less than 40fps at 1080P with DLSS. I usually play games on 1440/4K. How the hell did they mess up a port this badly? I mean, FF7 was rough, but this is insane.
It's because they are using their modified crystal tools engine they use for ff14, then they modified it further to be able to produce current gen graphics. This is a recipe for poor performance and they had to optimize it for years to get it where it is. They should've bite the bullet and switch to unreal 4 like cbu1.

You're very welcome and I'm glad this worked out for you - I was playing the game during my livestream with terrible performance during part 1 and part 2. Off stream, I took the time to do everything I mentioned here and then the magic happened. I had to share my experience in hopes that everyone else gets the same results.
Video came at a good time honestly. Ryzen 9 and an RTX 3080, where I was getting 25 FPS in both Lostwing and the Hideaway (Pre-Titan). Reinstalling the drivers and forcing a recompile got it back up to the 70-90 FPS range with DLSS on and a 4K 120hz TV. Something other folks have been recommending have been to upgrade the version of DLSS that FF16 uses (also available on TechPowerUp). I do genuinely believe there's a memory leak somewhere in the game though. Specifically using the Lostwing fast travel point--but I can't seem to replicate this.
I think so as well - there was a time where I had to hard reset the game and then it ran like butter - there has to be a memory leak for that to happen. I also feel that there is a CPU bottleneck happening as well. There is Zero reason for any of us to do these steps in this video but here we are. not sure if it's a memory leak, but everytime i teleport to the hideaway my frames tank from around 90 to 35~50 if I reopen the game fps goes back to normal inside the hideaway (80~100)
there has to be a memory leak, my fps shot down to 29 fps in the hideout last night when i wasplaying, restart my pc to see it shoot up to normal 80-90, what mainly tipped me off somehting was going on is the cut scenes were lagging!!!!!!!! i was like wtf

What reduced the frame time stuttering for me was: 1) Enforcing V-sync through the NVIDIA control panel. 2) Setting the in-game framerate setting: -------- to half of your monitor's refresh rate. 3) Activating quality mode on DLSS and frame generation, as I have a 40 series GPU. The stuttering persists but is significantly diminished. Disabling overlays such as GeForce Experience and Steam overlay also contributed.

I tried everything I could possibly think of and found scouring online to no avail until I came across this video and thought “screw it why not?”. By the Crystal, thank you! Running a GTX 1660 Super with a Ryzen 7 5700 and only had to drop the shadows and upscaling by one. Only fix that has worked.
Wow man this fix everything especially the FOV is the game changer, I'm set the FPS limit to 60 FPS as you video but I got a constant 120 FPS, no complain 'bout that, Thanks for the video you're really a great help

I was trying to record fights but the performance was bad, video was choppy, and my whole system was lagging. when I checked my task manager I was barely using any resources so It was just fustrating. Glad to see its just a bad port like most console games and not my system. This helped a ton so thanks!

Just came back to say that I've noticed that the performance, while it did improve back then when using your methods, it seems that performance still drops the longer I play and especially the more areas I explore. It almost seems that it's trying to remember all the stuff I went to before and eventually the FPS just starts tanking more. Closing the game for a minute or so helps a lot.
Good guide, I've done most of this escept for the fresh Nvidia install, going to try that now. I also noticed that FSR3 works better than DLSS. My only thing is you can't seem to get HDR on borderless so need to use fullscreen. For reference I'm on a 4070 super playing at 4k.
@@oxfordking FSR has a noticeable ghosting for me though, it's even noticeable in your video. I prefer going DLSS with no ghosting almost same performance (I have a 4060 TI)

Thank you so much for this. I was struggling to get a stable frame rate with an I7-13700kf, 4070ti, 32 gb ram and it's running better. Before this frame get was all over the place but now it seems to stay at a locked 120fps. Used DLSS as pointed out in the pinned comment. Crazy that consumers have to fix games for the devs
i use amd fsr 3 with frame generation in multiple games but no matter what i do every time i try to enable it in FFXVI it pops up with a window saying operation is completed successfully with an ok button, i cant actually do anything in the game and when i press ok it crashes and when i load back in its not enabled.. i cannot figure out why this is happening as it works perfectly in other games
I followed this and it helps me a lot, not that smooth but its faster now, I’m using rtx2050 4gb, 24gb ram laptop, maybe because my gpu is low end that is why its not that smooth like on your video, but it worked, thank you brother.
Thanks for the tips. I tried all this and also the CPU, ram, SSD high priority mod, but my rtx 4070 still barely hits 60fps at 1440p. In towns is the worst. Outside is pretty good though. This game is not graphically impressive enough to struggle this much.

These settings are perfect! Thank you! I just get a little bit of ghosting though. If I turn motion blur on I can mitigate this, just a bit, but I lose a lot of performance if I turn the frame gen off (to turn the motion blur on). Edit: I did some more tests and notice that frame generation is key to maintain a consistant 60fps even with FSR with Dyn Res on. Without this option I always get frame drops.
I tried the first 3-4 steps, but I ran into an issue. I kept getting this error messages saying that it couldn't find a path or some crap like that. I was able to fresh uninstall the graphics drivers but installing the NVCinstall program didn't work for :( I tried exactly what you were showing on screen, but as usual, I always run into some unique barrier with these tutorials, It's frustrating -_- I'm just gonna install the widescreen support mods and just play the game at 50fps with bad stutters :( oh well
So I had previously did a clean install with the GForce app and didn't really want to mess with the mod because I didn't want to screw with my FOV. I did make all the other changes you suggest though and game plays way smoother. Still getting some audio stuttering though but not nearly as bad. Edit: I turned my graphics settings down to medium from high and it got rid of the audio issues, plays great now. My rig was top of the line when I built it but it's getting a little old now so probably can't handle high settings.
does this fix the crashing? my game crashes way too often. took me 5 hours to kill the first boss due to crashing. Im using a 4060ti and the game always stays at 100fps but even then it crashes for no reason

I just relaunched to go to the in game settings like you said at 14:45 and it is redoing the shaders. You didnt mention anything about this. Is it meant to do that on the first boot up after reinstalling all the stuff? Edit: Holy hell is there a way to undo this? I followed your instructions even keeping the graphics settings set to the lowest and it actually made the performance even worse. I was getting about 15fps in lostwing and 25-40 fps in other areas with the occasional area giving me a nice smooth 60. I was replaying through NG+ and decided to try this out to see if it made the second playthrough more fluid. closed out with about 30fps and restarted with about 10.
Just followed the full guide and it seems to work. Switching back to DLSS makes it look nicer of course but at the cost of 30fps. Now I can get around 60fps while streaming on the 3070. I'll probably report again tomorrow. Oh and the 30fps that I got was on the high graphical settings. Before this video I dipped into the 15-18 fps on everything low. :) I'm okay with lower graphical settings as long as the performance is decent. Heck I grew up in the psx era.
Holy shit, actually getting more than 60fps on fsr. I did switch back to DLSS (I can't stand fsr image quality) but I'm getting 50fps in lostwing on a 2080 compared to before i was getting around 20, fantastic, thanks.

TUF 4080 Super rig here, I did all of these and every 5 mins I still get the crash to desktop "GPU will not respond to more commands because of an invalid command passed by the calling application"
Please help! Followed all steps and pc is having a heart attack. It’s brand new just built it. The NVCleanstall had an error because of needing the nvidia app. Did the DUU again tried to install the nvidia app worked fine got to the driver part and at 100% download I’m hit with the not enough space when I have 2TB?!?!?
I followed every single step and didnt help at all. 1440p rtx4070 r5600x 32gb ddr4 nvme m2 ssd Fsr looks so bad, it makes everything super pixelated, especially on areas with alot of grass. Nvdia Dlss looks better and runs better, but the game is still runing extremely poor, regardless of what upscaler. I set this FF16 port on the same level of early cash grab as Dragons Dogma 2. They optimized the first 2-4 hours of gameplay so nobody can refund it.
@@FvkingHandleNames DLSS looks better (less artifacting and blur) and is made for RTX 30xx-40xx i could be wrong but im also pretty sure it gives more benefits especially if youre using an rtx 40xx card because of frame generation ( gives a decent frame rate boost at a cost of a little bit of latency ). So I followed this guide and it does help me with FPS however something I do notice though is that whenever I switch from Nvidia to AMD resolution + AMD FSR 3 Frame generation, although it has higher FPS my game starts to randomly stutter a lot more when I am turning a corner in game or seeing a new NPC. It also makes all the cutscenes stutter a lot worse. It's incredibly distracting and I didnt know if there was something differently I could do that could help with this?
This does not fix it for me. Something bizarre happens to the game after getting to Lostwing. When I fast travel back to the Hideaway, the performance is still 20-30 fps. However, when I load an older manual save (before unlocking Lostwing), I"m back to my normal 50 fps. Sadly, nothing's changed after attempting your fix. I've read it's a common problem with those that have nvidia gpus + amd cpus. My Steamdeck runs the game better, which is tragic.

Did you experiencing any freezing issue? I got same you with you, saw ppl comment this game have ram leak issue, and sometimes burn more vram than usual? I tried delete the shader, thing still happened. Just wondering do you have any idea or similar issue?
3080 PCIe user here. 2021 four core intel laptop. Fsr frame gen makes the combat go into slow motion for me. Works great in towns, but sadly unplayable due to combat issues.
Finally i found someone with the same problem with the same specs. Run "okay" in town (25-30 FPS), but when in combat, drop to 15-18 fps and basically i fight in slow mod.
change ur resolution to 1920 x 1080 & lets see any change? cuz my gtx 1080 + fsr 3 + frame generation + performance = 60fps ofc in fights maybe some drop but its ok
@@madmaster3d same frames at all resolutions.. some are saying memory leak, I am thinking the same. Frame gen causes massive stutters that leads to slow mo combat.
@@dantevergil6437 I was able to replicate the Frame Gen slo motion issue. Basically any combat area with more than 5-6 enemies will cause the slow down. cpu and gpu usage shoots up to 99%, frame rate drops and everything starts moving in slow motion. The only way to counter this now is to manually turn off Frame Gen, finish the combat sequence, then turn it back on. Tedious....but all in all Frame Gen works in great in towns and exploration and terribly for large, messy combat sequences. Fighting 1-4 or so enemies in a large open area doesn't cause any slow downs and is very specific to the number of enemies.
Might give some of this a go for my rog ally extreme, been a total pain getting it to run on there consistently., 7800x3D + 4090 at 1440p ultra wide can struggle as well without DLSS and DRS which is mental for a game that's purely raster. Best settings for me on a 175hz monitor has been target frame rate at around half that, with DLSS and DRS plus frame gen to give the most stable performance, as much as I'm not the biggest fan of frame gen, at least it's kept it mostly smooth in the 140+fps range as apposed to going from 170fps one sec all the way down the 60-80fps which is quite jarring even with VRR. Guess I could always just stick to a 60 cap but personally found that works for me.
Any idea's why the game runs terribly again after a reboot? Looking at the logs all the fixes are still applied, it's performance has just tanked back to what it was previously. Very odd
Not sure honestly, this never happened to me. Nvidia just dropped a new driver right now in case you're using Nvidia. Maybe try installing that one with a fresh install.

I've put it on low with DLSS. Also it's in borderless mode as i tend to alttab a lot to chat so I can't afford the added annoyance of fullscreen. It runs comfortably at 30-40 frames but I've locked it to 30 to avoid any stutters. It'll probably not be the *best* experience but it's very playable for a budget card. FSR with frame gen played in slow motion for me.
i have an i7-7700 and a rtx 3080ti and for me the audio was bugged and couldnt play for me the fix was switching it to BORDERLESS mode if i switch it back to fullscreen mode the stutter sound bug comes back. and its gone in borderless mode. not sure whats happing behind the scenes but i got it working at least

I was trying to record fights but the performance was bad, video was choppy, and my whole system was lagging. when I checked my task manager I was barely using any resources so It was just fustrating. Glad to see its just a bad port like most console games and not my system. This helped a ton so thanks!

I haven't seen such a good guide for a long time. Unfortunately I don't get much more FPS because my CPU (R7 5800X) is too weak. The load is 70-90% :D
Just came back to say that I've noticed that the performance, while it did improve back then when using your methods, it seems that performance still drops the longer I play and especially the more areas I explore. It almost seems that it's trying to remember all the stuff I went to before and eventually the FPS just starts tanking more. Closing the game for a minute or so helps a lot.
Good guide, I've done most of this escept for the fresh Nvidia install, going to try that now. I also noticed that FSR3 works better than DLSS. My only thing is you can't seem to get HDR on borderless so need to use fullscreen.
For reference I'm on a 4070 super playing at 4k.

@@oxfordking FSR has a noticeable ghosting for me though, it's even noticeable in your video. I prefer going DLSS with no ghosting almost same performance (I have a 4060 TI)
@@Oninyourfly This video, and the FSR Settings recommended, was meant for those without a 40 Series Card. If you have a 40 Series 100% use DLSS with Nvidia Frame Gen. I'm keenly aware of the Image Quality delta between the two. During my recording, I just went with my settings without mentioning "If you have a 40 Series Do This Instead"
@@oxfordking I have a 3070Ti and I've decided to stick with DLSS aswell, FSR looks terrible for me and still feels very inconsistent, maybe I don't have enough overhead with this gpu at 1440p 😭

Thank you so much for this. I was struggling to get a stable frame rate with an I7-13700kf, 4070ti, 32 gb ram and it's running better. Before this frame get was all over the place but now it seems to stay at a locked 120fps. Used DLSS as pointed out in the pinned comment. Crazy that consumers have to fix games for the devs
i use amd fsr 3 with frame generation in multiple games but no matter what i do every time i try to enable it in FFXVI it pops up with a window saying operation is completed successfully with an ok button, i cant actually do anything in the game and when i press ok it crashes and when i load back in its not enabled.. i cannot figure out why this is happening as it works perfectly in other games

Thanks for the tips. I tried all this and also the CPU, ram, SSD high priority mod, but my rtx 4070 still barely hits 60fps at 1440p. In towns is the worst. Outside is pretty good though. This game is not graphically impressive enough to struggle this much.

I just get a little bit of ghosting though. If I turn motion blur on I can mitigate this, just a bit, but I lose a lot of performance if I turn the frame gen off (to turn the motion blur on).
Edit: I did some more tests and notice that frame generation is key to maintain a consistant 60fps even with FSR with Dyn Res on.
Without this option I always get frame drops.
I forgot to mention that my gpu is a RTX 2060 super with 6gb ram.
I tried the first 3-4 steps, but I ran into an issue. I kept getting this error messages saying that it couldn't find a path or some crap like that. I was able to fresh uninstall the graphics drivers but installing the NVCinstall program didn't work for :( I tried exactly what you were showing on screen, but as usual, I always run into some unique barrier with these tutorials, It's frustrating -_-
I'm just gonna install the widescreen support mods and just play the game at 50fps with bad stutters :( oh well
So I had previously did a clean install with the GForce app and didn't really want to mess with the mod because I didn't want to screw with my FOV. I did make all the other changes you suggest though and game plays way smoother. Still getting some audio stuttering though but not nearly as bad.
Edit: I turned my graphics settings down to medium from high and it got rid of the audio issues, plays great now. My rig was top of the line when I built it but it's getting a little old now so probably can't handle high settings.

does this fix the crashing? my game crashes way too often. took me 5 hours to kill the first boss due to crashing. Im using a 4060ti and the game always stays at 100fps but even then it crashes for no reason
My game never crashed after this. It was before a lot. I finished the game and the 2 DLC's with no issues after this.

Yeah I forgot to mention this video was mainly for those with anything under a 40 Series - I just went with my settings but getting some 40 Series owners in the comments talking about the poor Image quality of FSR which I'm keenly aware of but for those without a 40 Series, FSR with AMD Frame Gen is all we have for this Title. 40 Series Owners should absolutely be using DLSS with Nvidia Frame Gen.

I just relaunched to go to the in game settings like you said at 14:45 and it is redoing the shaders. You didnt mention anything about this. Is it meant to do that on the first boot up after reinstalling all the stuff?
Edit: Holy hell is there a way to undo this? I followed your instructions even keeping the graphics settings set to the lowest and it actually made the performance even worse. I was getting about 15fps in lostwing and 25-40 fps in other areas with the occasional area giving me a nice smooth 60. I was replaying through NG+ and decided to try this out to see if it made the second playthrough more fluid. closed out with about 30fps and restarted with about 10.
Just followed the full guide and it seems to work. Switching back to DLSS makes it look nicer of course but at the cost of 30fps. Now I can get around 60fps while streaming on the 3070. I'll probably report again tomorrow. Oh and the 30fps that I got was on the high graphical settings. Before this video I dipped into the 15-18 fps on everything low. :) I'm okay with lower graphical settings as long as the performance is decent. Heck I grew up in the psx era.
Holy shit, actually getting more than 60fps on fsr. I did switch back to DLSS (I can't stand fsr image quality) but I'm getting 50fps in lostwing on a 2080 compared to before i was getting around 20, fantastic, thanks.

TUF 4080 Super rig here, I did all of these and every 5 mins I still get the crash to desktop "GPU will not respond to more commands because of an invalid command passed by the calling application"
Please help! Followed all steps and pc is having a heart attack. It’s brand new just built it. The NVCleanstall had an error because of needing the nvidia app. Did the DUU again tried to install the nvidia app worked fine got to the driver part and at 100% download I’m hit with the not enough space when I have 2TB?!?!?

Fsr looks so bad, it makes everything super pixelated, especially on areas with alot of grass.
Nvdia Dlss looks better and runs better, but the game is still runing extremely poor, regardless of what upscaler.
I set this FF16 port on the same level of early cash grab as Dragons Dogma 2. They optimized the first 2-4 hours of gameplay so nobody can refund it.

@@FvkingHandleNames DLSS looks better (less artifacting and blur) and is made for RTX 30xx-40xx i could be wrong but im also pretty sure it gives more benefits especially if youre using an rtx 40xx card because of frame generation ( gives a decent frame rate boost at a cost of a little bit of latency ). Hey there! So I followed this guide and it does help me with FPS however something I do notice though is that whenever I switch from Nvidia to AMD resolution + AMD FSR 3 Frame generation, although it has higher FPS my game starts to randomly stutter a lot more when I am turning a corner in game or seeing a new NPC. It also makes all the cutscenes stutter a lot worse. It's incredibly distracting and I didnt know if there was something differently I could do that could help with this?
For people on windows 10 still you just type graphic settings into start and follow basically the same procedure to enable high priority

Something bizarre happens to the game after getting to Lostwing. When I fast travel back to the Hideaway, the performance is still 20-30 fps. However, when I load an older manual save (before unlocking Lostwing), I"m back to my normal 50 fps. Sadly, nothing's changed after attempting your fix.
I've read it's a common problem with those that have nvidia gpus + amd cpus. My Steamdeck runs the game better, which is tragic.

The forest on the way to Lost Wing gave me the most problems so far; I just left Lost Wing.

I had one issue where the game came to a slow motion crawl. Was very annoying. It only happened once.
Is putting V-sync on in global settings a good thing? For most other games in general? Should I turn off V-sync in-game with other games too?
3080 PCIe user here. 2021 four core intel laptop. Fsr frame gen makes the combat go into slow motion for me. Works great in towns, but sadly unplayable due to combat issues.
Finally i found someone with the same problem with the same specs. Run "okay" in town (25-30 FPS), but when in combat, drop to 15-18 fps and basically i fight in slow mod.
change ur resolution to 1920 x 1080
& lets see any change?

@@madmaster3d same frames at all resolutions.. some are saying memory leak, I am thinking the same. Frame gen causes massive stutters that leads to slow mo combat.
@@dantevergil6437 I was able to replicate the Frame Gen slo motion issue. Basically any combat area with more than 5-6 enemies will cause the slow down. cpu and gpu usage shoots up to 99%, frame rate drops and everything starts moving in slow motion. The only way to counter this now is to manually turn off Frame Gen, finish the combat sequence, then turn it back on. Tedious....but all in all Frame Gen works in great in towns and exploration and terribly for large, messy combat sequences. Fighting 1-4 or so enemies in a large open area doesn't cause any slow downs and is very specific to the number of enemies.
Do you have a fix for frozen screen after cutscene or perma loading screen if you skip a cutscene? I have a Threadripper 3970x and Radeon 7900 GRE.
Might give some of this a go for my rog ally extreme, been a total pain getting it to run on there consistently., 7800x3D + 4090 at 1440p ultra wide can struggle as well without DLSS and DRS which is mental for a game that's purely raster. Best settings for me on a 175hz monitor has been target frame rate at around half that, with DLSS and DRS plus frame gen to give the most stable performance, as much as I'm not the biggest fan of frame gen, at least it's kept it mostly smooth in the 140+fps range as apposed to going from 170fps one sec all the way down the 60-80fps which is quite jarring even with VRR. Guess I could always just stick to a 60 cap but personally found that works for me.
Any idea's why the game runs terribly again after a reboot? Looking at the logs all the fixes are still applied, it's performance has just tanked back to what it was previously. Very odd
Not sure honestly, this never happened to me. Nvidia just dropped a new driver right now in case you're using Nvidia. Maybe try installing that one with a fresh install.

You are, you're using a 3050. It's not strong enough to run this game comfortably at high settings
I've put it on low with DLSS. Also it's in borderless mode as i tend to alttab a lot to chat so I can't afford the added annoyance of fullscreen. It runs comfortably at 30-40 frames but I've locked it to 30 to avoid any stutters. It'll probably not be the *best* experience but it's very playable for a budget card. FSR with frame gen played in slow motion for me.

i have an i7-7700 and a rtx 3080ti and for me the audio was bugged and couldnt play for me the fix was switching it to BORDERLESS mode if i switch it back to fullscreen mode the stutter sound bug comes back. and its gone in borderless mode. not sure whats happing behind the scenes but i got it working at least
So I tried these steps and still I am dealing with stuttering and lag. I'm wondering if it's due to playing on a laptop instead of a desktop. I have a 2060 graphics card but I'm curious if the game doesn't like the fact it's a laptop version. Any suggestions?

I get error in some cutscenes that makes me shutdown the game when I press okay (the operation completed successfully) , I turned off all the Overlays and sleep mdoe, but still having this problem , the only way to skip the cutscene to continue which ruined my experience. Please help.
Most of the settings are making sense, but for performance sake, vertical sync should never be turned on.
