As much as I love XII/12, it's a weird recommendation to give to someone who loved this as their first Final Fantasy. 12's and 16's strengths are rather different. 16 has fantastic combat, quality main characters that you root for, and a very interesting take on Primals/Eikons. However the side characters are mostly forgettable, there's a painful lack of actual RPG elements/mechanics, and very little side/secret content, making it a very linear experience. Meanwhile 12 has phenomenal RPG mechanics and gameplay, lots of hidden areas & summons, and some very interesting side characters. However the main cast (with the exception of Blathier) are just bland and uninteresting, the story's pacing is inconsistent with mediocre voice acting, and the Gambit system is not for everyone. So we have a story based game with strong action that does away with most of the traditional RPG elements vs. one that's more gameplay focused, that really leans into the RPG/MMO mechanics with a forgettable story.
