Live in Dortmund, Germany, 1982 Kevin Cronin: (Vocals, Guitar & Piano) Gary Richrath: (Lead Guitar) Bruce Hall: (Bass) Alan Gratzer: (Drums) Neal Doughty: (Keyboards)
When REO was real, like this, they could rock any arena to the ground. The band had chemistry and as Gary would call it, "stage sense". It came off as genuine, fun, magnetic, loud and even a little raw maybe because it was. The garage band that became the biggest band on the planet in 1981/1982 still could show their true colors in 85, look at the Rock AM Ring video and listen to 157. Of course, sitting here watching Gary's lightning fast fingers here, seeing that 1000 Watt smile and knowing he was having a fricking blast, makes this video a hard one not to love for those of us who saw Gary for the monster talent he was. Cover song or not, he ripped it. Loud and Proud Baby, just like he was. Thanks Gar for some incredible R&R. Great memories!
Gary is tearing up his LP here, having a blast!! Even John Denver did a cover of Johnny B., Gary outrocked them all...it is a highly covered song...rip Chuck, the daddy of rock n roll...rip Gary another rocker joining you!!
When I read your post and saw you saying John Denver did a a cover of Johnny B., I chuckled, then looked it up, and have to agree with you....AMAZING. Thanks
Didn't REO do an awesome cover ? I don't know of many covers they did, maybe the early days. When I heard Chuck passed a few weeks ago I remembered that REO covered Johnny B. and wanted to comment about the daddy of R&R, and knew it was highly covered song. I was amazed too when I saw John Denver even covered it!! When REO was performing in Germany I think '79, Gary made that move across stage like Chuck did, and I've seen Gary do it during other performances.
I am from Pekin Illinois, 8 miles from East Peoria where Gary grew up. When he left Reo, my brother saw him at a small club there with his Richrath Band.....I was insanely jealous. My brother said they were great. And I agree....No Gary, No Reo. Thanks for the chat.
@@killebrew69 this lineup wasn’t active in 1997. By then Alan Gratzer and Gary Richrath were no longer in the band. The 1997 lineup is the same as the 2022 lineup
+Nelson Robert Willis Alan was also a "mediator" and "peacemaker" in the band, above & beyond his drummer duties, which is undoubtedly why, when he announced he was leaving, Gary gave him "a hug and wouldn't let go."
This is good. I never knew they also covered this song. Last week I recorded Johnny B. Goode. I rocked it singing & playing bass guitar, and I even did the solo behind my head. I want to do this for America's Got Talent on the 1st week to be judged. It's my featured video right now. I hope you'll check it out and like it. Take care.
Love this rendition of one of rocks most classic iconic songs. Wish they’d put it on an album. I’ve got about a dozen versions of this song in my iPhone music library, would dearly love to add this one. But I can’t figure out how to transfer it to my iPhone music library. 😢
I saw Reo in at the Clearfield County fair in Pa. They were awesome. !991 or 1992 . they sang for awhile, left stage. everyone seemed to cheer quite a bit when they came back on and finished all of their main songs. Reo Speed Wagon is what old fire trucks were called. I believe they actually got that name by research and adopting that name for the group.
Neal and Alan were students at U of I, Neal walked i to a "history of transportation" class, and on the chalk board was the name REO Speedwagon. Rest is history...
Wow...as a 30-year collector of REO material, I can't believe I missed this!! Is there anything else of REO available? Thank you very much in advance...!!
How can I transfer this from RUclips to my iPhone library? I too have collected dozens of artist performing this rock classic. But never knew my fav REO ever did it live. Great rendition👍🏼🎶😁
Wish I could figure out how to transfer this awesome song to my iPhone Music library. I've got about a dozen other renditions of this song, from Elvis to The Beatles, to Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Johnny Winter, Mahogany Rush, Grateful Dead and more, but I'd dearly love to get this onto my iPhone library too. HOW ???
Too much Cronin, not enough Richrath. In the late 60's and early 70's they used to open with that song, and Richrath killed it! Set the tone for the night.
The legendary and undupicatable sound of Gary Richrath on lead guitar!
The GOAT: Guitar Original All Time. My favorite.

Rest in peace , Gary .

REO stands for Ransome Eli Olds, the founder of Oldsmobile.
Es la canción que canta Marty Mcfly en Volver al Futuro!!!!!!!!!! Reo Speedwagon son sensacionales!!!!!
Chuck Berry 1958 - 2017
