Glad you enjoyed it! I feel much more at home in a library than a church. The former seems more enlightening and the latter somewhat oppressive. I suppose that's the point.
Thanks very much. 🥰 We don't know what we did to deserve it but we are truly honoured that so many people would want to watch us swanning around castles. 😀
Thank you 😊 I’m glad we have so many varied historical buildings still standing, it’s pleasing to see that quite a large amount are being looked after in some way
Thank you for checking in on us! That’s very sweet of you 😊 We stopped first because of sickness- not covid, and now better. We haven’t gone back out to film due to a mixture of pandemic, castle closures and high fuel prices. We will be back again though! Jo
They did seem to know their onions. I often find myself wondering how they shifted those heavy stones about without the aid of modern machinery. All very ingenious stuff with winches and pulleys, etc. I imagine.
Really enjoyed a lot the informations and the presentation which gives a Profi vlog image! Would be great idea to add a low volume background music to give a document feeling 😉 Great job guys!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 😊 We do the music thingy when there’s no-one talking, but when we’re yammering we like to make sure people can understand us. Especially as I, Jo, tend to be a bit on the quiet side.
i like this channel. but i got a question. im from the Netherlands, why do many Churches in the UK have battlements? was it used as some kind of watchtower?
Thanks for letting us know you like our channel. Always good to hear. 😀 Quite a few churches were built with defensive features in the UK and across Europe. Churches with thick walls and doors, defensive towers, crenelations, etc. can often be found on frequently disputed borders. The borders between England and Wales and England and Scotland boast a number of heavily fortified churches. Some crenelations on church towers are simply decorative but some towers also had other defensive features like a tunnel-vaulted ground floor supporting a fireplace above which would allow the tower to be occupied as a place of refuge during heavy fighting or siege.
I want to say your videos are top drawer and I'll end up watching all of them. I've watched a couple dozen and I was going to ask you why the woman is made to carry the camera and tripod. But I see that finally, in this video , the man was carrying them. Good! And do you two drive separately because at the end of your videos the guy goes off to the right and the girl goes off to the left? Keep up the splendid work and thank you.
Sorry it's taken me ages to reply to this. I'm glad you like our videos. In answer to your questions, we both have cameras and tripods but we can't film ourselves carrying them while we film with them. This is no doubt a feature that the pesky camera manufacturers have built into the cameras so they can sell more of them. We do travel in the same car but we have a strict rule of not talking to each other until we reach the filming location so we don't run out of things to say. I hope this satisfies your curiosity.
Unfortunately not- with the craziness of the world (covid is still very much a thing) it's not something we want to risk right now. That, and fuel is a bit pricey for us to be running around the uk. We WILL be back though! Thank you for checking in :) -Jo
Was that a figure in stone lying on the catafalque type thing? It looks a bit damaged and lumpy. I loved Ian whispering like a BBC voiceover waiting for a royal wedding! This was nice if brief. I guess the family doesn't have public days? Mostly that's a fundraiser, maybe they don't need more funds.
It is a figure and you're right is was a bit beaten up. I expect it was one of the de Londres family as it was their burial site. I should imagine it was Maurice de Londres or perhaps William. Not sure which. Apparently the house is open occasionally but largely it is used for weddings. I couldn't comment on their financial situation but old buildings always cost the earth to maintain.
Very interesting channel and a great watch, hope you upload more content.
This castle looks so majestic! Thanks for sharing! Keep going!
Want more of these informative contents!
Thank you! We had to pause whilst illness and pandemic occurred, but we’re looking forward to getting back into it!
Just found you. We enjoy discovering castles and other places with lots of history. Now subscribed
Welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy all the castle shenanigans we have in store :)
Hoping to see you both back soon!
Thank you!
We would love to be back, but between Covid and fuel prices we're waiting things out.
Hope you are well?

The vaulting is pretty amazing, all done by hand, some skill in those medieval craftsmen.
