I like Fire Force. Do I think it's peak shonen? Not really. But thank you for talking about Tamaki, I felt like I was going crazy with how much people focus on her and nothing else in the story. I do get why, while the themes are present I think the execution could have been much better, especially since a lot of the time her fanservice breaks the flow of the story/action, but it seems like there is zero discussion on the series outside of that.

I would always compare the way Fire Force is told to a huge puzzle. I will be told that this is the case with most manga, but where most give information and others later so that the pieces fit together. Fire Force gives some information, then others which completely changes the point of view we had before that, and for me that makes it really special. I can understand that people don't fall under its spell right away, because it's a series that requires investment to really understand it, until the end, but that's also what makes it so charming and what makes it an excellent manga in my opinion. Regarding fan service... When I hear about it, especially from people who read Soul Eater before that, I want to know if they have a selective memory. The first three chapters of SE, introducing the three main groups, all have a good dose of fan service. Whether it's Blair taking a bath, Black Star trying to watch Tsubaki naked or Death groping the Thompson sisters, and it doesn't stop there. At least in FF the fan service is focused on just one person (mostly).
You hit the nail on the head with the double standard of Soul Eater fans who try to talk down on Fire Force as if the series isn't guilty of that either
I gotta love this video by default because its about fire force, the world needs more of that. as much hate Tamaki gets, and I personally am disappointed with how she ended up since she was someone I had a lot of hope for, I find it hilarious that she's the only blemish twitter can find on the series lol once you catch up to Undead Unluck, any plans on doing a live read of Soul Eater? or Gachiakuta the soul successor? (nudging you to plan that UU livestream i need it lol)
Great video, might just be the motivation I need to get back on the anime - not to say that I dislike the adaptation at all, I’ve just become terrible about starting and not finishing shows of all kinds 😂. Funny enough though, Fire Force and Dr. Stone were the two series that converted me to a regular reader of manga off the first episode, so it’s nice to be able to revisit the series in this way nearly 5 years later. I liked your approach to the Tamaki section of the video, she gets so much more flak from readers/viewers than she should. Can’t wait to see your future content

Great work on the video, including that one segment regarding a certain character, cause you said what I was thinking in regards to Tamaki. Initially when Ive heard of Fire Force, Ive seen some talk about said fanservice regarding how its done, and I could understand the sentiment. When I gave the series a shot, all I could say it that personally, it doesnt bother me, along with fanservice in general (as in the sexual kind since there's various ways of fanservice, like returning characters and whatnot), and even Tamaki herself doesnt bother me. If anything, Im cool with her and the others in the series myself. However, I could also understand the sentiment of a character having something that sounds cool, but gets screwed over due to what's added, even if the idea works in theory. For my case, I personally wanted to see her get some confidence in not just her power, but herself in general regarding that little condition. I say that because of that one talk she had with Shinra in regards to her little condition, comparing to Arthur and his little schtick, it got me thinking about how notable characters have something about themselves in which you'd think would be the worst aspect to themselves and others, but actually could be their strength. Beit Shinra's supposedly devilish smile and power or Arthur's delusions or hell, Maki's ogre strength, they do all they can in spite of it all. Ill even mention how Tamaki even got that when it came to that Doppel-Sault debacle, and Ill even mention that deal with Gold when Company 8 counted on her, which was nice to see, even in the end regarding the former. Speaking of that one panel, there's 2 things I wanna mention; 1. I found it interesting how the translated version of that referred to Eros when it came to what Assault went on about, given Eros being the greek god of love, and said love leading to eroticism and it leading to life, and without the middle man, life can't continue, which honestly sounds intriguing. Plus on a sidenote, that whole deal where everyone stripped including Obi, Maki and Vulcan was pretty funny. Reminds me of how KLK had everyone end up naked after that whole Shinra-Koketsu deal :P Though its also like they're boosting her morale in that situation, as if Tamaki aint alone. 2. Regarding that one deal regarding Tatsuto, Ive seen others say many things. Some say it's a self-insert (which I feel is a bit of a stretch despite how meta the arc went) others try to say it was a strawman towards those who dislike said fanservice and many other things. Even those who agreed with it say they were a bit preachy, which I could at least see. Personally, I feel that its less about trying to justify said fanservice existing or making a strawman, and more about tackling the ideas presented during the whole shebang. I say that because of how the townspeople are just going by what's being said by said Doppelganger, as if it werent enough when it came to how they were like beforehand when this cataclysm started. Also because of how Tatsuto's mom, instead of noticing what's going on, focused her attention onto Tamaki's attire despite her doing all she can to fight off Doppel-Sault. Even going with what others are saying despite how theyre like from said situation. Basically the whole deal on perceptions in regards to a certain aspect one has, whether its about how said person is like when it comes to it leading to the notion that because one has this they must be something else, or if someone doesn't have it, someone else should give it up to them. In short, while I do understand the sentiment about Tamaki's character and presence along with how things would have worked, even if Im not bothered by her, the over-exaggerations regarding how she's done along with the factors mentioned is what bugs me. Whether its how said scenes are done or what's being said, or her character in general, it's really irking. Another sidenote and its my last point; After giving Fire Force a shot, I also gave Soul Eater a shot (though I heard the Manga's better despite my fun with the anime pushing that one ending aside). Both series I find pretty cool, though I lean more towards SE's Halloweeny theme. So yeah, all in all, good work on the video.
Loved the video, not a lot of fire force or Ohkubo manga discussions on RUclips but i always enjoyed this manga, 216's reveal about the real world being the old civilisation was crazy and the weekly experiences reading the series is unforgettable, the only gripe i have is with the villains is the adolla burst swuad Faerie lead wich didnt amount to much besides fuel for the cataclysm, i don't think that tamaki would be as great as tou said she could be but i appreciated someone who looked in depth into her character, the mom and the kid section is still the most jarring thing in the manga for me but i only wished she used her cat form she got from in training in Asakusa but beyond that, soul eater being one of my all time favourites i really liked the connection. I can't describe fully the feeling i had after the world got remade, it felt fresh and would work for a small miniseries to expand the world before withces and other prominent existences appear in the Soul Eater world. Again really great video

Yes, it is peak but lastly I don't agree with what you said about tamaki yes she's a good character and I liked her development but her final fight and moment were a great conclusion to what her character is I get it a character self reflecting is good but either way what okubo wrote is very undeapreciated af keep on with the great work

Check out Chapter 243. He has always been the guy who plays with people's beliefs. The people of Asakusa, Shinra's classmates and the whole Tokyo Empire.
Also a lot of readers didn’t notice that Yona was actually involved (he can be seen if you look closely) in Giovanni’s backstory with his ancestors and Vulcan’s about the building of Amaterasu in ch. 247. Yona has been portrayed as a world building troublemaker when you think about it.
