I wish I would have searched for this before I took it to the shop because I thought it was the spindle bearings going bad. It reacted like everything I watched on youtube. this was so simple that I've always did my own mechanic work all of my life, but now that I'm 68 and my back is in so much pain when I do things, It makes me wonder if it is worth the pain to save $117.00 dollars for the tie rod end and labor that took about 1 hour. Pain is a very big motivator. Thanks.

Hi John, good to hear from you! Quality of life is the overriding factor. Sometimes it is a wise decision to have someone else do it, even if it comes with a price tag. :)

Would this be the cause for heavy outer tire wear

It could be. Your alignment is affected by the tie rods, control arms & ball joints.

Just a foot note I live in mpls so lots of rust tie rod was ceased against the retaining bolt no torch so took my grinder and grinded the shaft of bushing next to bolt down about half way being careful not to go into the threaded shaft that allows you to unscrew the tie rod end.

no se le pega a la tuerca se puede dañar la cuerda por eso le costo trabajo sacarla despues de que la golpea para sacar la rotula se le dan golpes al mango o y con esos golpes la vibracion hace que se salga el tornillo de la rotula..?????

if I dont want to use a hammer what size rod end puller I need?

It needs to be robust and big enough to slip easily between the knuckle and the joint. :)

Do NOT screw the castle nut back on before hammering the old tie rod. It can get stuck on the threads and the spindle will spin freely so you can't get it back off. I followed your instructions and ended up having to use a cutoff wheel to get the old tie rod off.

There is widespread agreement to put the castle nut back on so as not to mushroom the threads. Sorry to hear you had so much problems.
