I have a 1999 Sienna XLE with about 215000 miles, that I bought 5 years ago when it had 175k. The previous owner drove it very little and had it sitting for 8 months before I bought it. A few things had to be replaced but all in all a great vehicle. I live in NW Minnesota, where temps have gotten to 45 below and this vehicle works like a charm.

After watching this, I decided to look online for used Siennas for sale. I found one near Toledo with 405,000 miles on it! For $4,391!! I have a hunch that, as soon as Scotty posts a positive video about a vehicle, sellers raise their price on that vehicle. Lol.
My parent bought that same car brand new off the lot back in the day. Awesome car they traded it for the newer model sienna once the first ones came out
Same story in the US but that’s what people are asking, not necessarily what they’re getting. I’ve still gotten a couple good deals lately you just have to always be on the lookout. Now the newer cars are just insane, almost 60k for a Toyota van is just ridiculous l.
Yeah it’s crazy. I saw a used car dealership here in Ottawa selling a 2007 Toyota Corolla with 200,000k km on it for $9k plus taxes and fees. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Cause of the 2000 shortage on conductors and the lack of the usual supply of cars made during the pandemic. Sucks because I’m looking for a used car for my wife and used cars 7-10 years old that would normally be 15k tops with decent mileage are selling for 20-25. I bought a 98 bmw for 4k for the meantime until I find something for her but I hav ea feeling it’s going to take about 2-3 years for used car prices go back to normal as these 2022-23 model leases return to car lots and drive down the prices of older models again.
........i've got a 2001 sienna i bought new. Only have 92,000 original miles and still drives great. Six cylinder. I was going to by another car but i am thinking why. Been in Huntington beach, Calif. since i bought it. Never been in snow or any type of fender bender let alone a wreck. Only work ever done was two fuel sensors. One needed replacing and other just cleaned because i failed smog test in California and front brakes twice. Also 3 sets of tires. Paid $25,000. out the door which i thought was a lot. Wish now i would have bought two when they were new......haha.
Minivan is the best all-around vehicles in North America. It can be used to put some drywall from Home Depot, it can put a few kids or a whole family on it. Great for camping trip! Great for road trips! Always reliable. Less expensive than a SUV, and more "utilizable" than the SUV. Looks boring, so nobody steals them. Low insurance. Can be used to tow things too! Practical, and pragmatic! If I can only choose 1 type of vehicle, then definitely a minivan.
Just traded my 2011 rogue SL for a 2000 Sienna. Even trade no money. My rogue’s ac evaporator core failed. Price is taking the whole dash apart or paying a professional over a thousand. I test drive this, and the ac works in the front and back, 23 years later.
Snow in summer? Lol, he must have a backlog of videos. I really wanted one of these vans, but ended up getting a really good deal on a 2007 Odyssey 🤷♂️ also a good van
You could do a video like this once a day for the next year.... "How to buy a pretty damn good car for really cheap..." And I'd watch and like every single one
I bought a 2009 Toyota Sienna XLE back in 2013 with 8500 miles on it. It also came with the ramp conversion kit on it because I’m in a wheelchair. I paid $23000. As of today I have 71235 miles on it. I have really never put a dime into this vehicle except regular maintenance. First problem just popped up my brake light on dashboard stays on. I think the master cylinder may be going up in it because brakes feel real mushy and vehicle is getting harder to bring to a stop. I have know idea what the repair will cost. We will see. But a great vehicle so far.
Wow SK. I almost missed this review. I was window shopping online at eBay Motors and I See Cars wanting a Previa, but now I'll include the Sienna in my search. Thanks.
I have an old '05 Sienna w/ 200k on it. Tried to change the timing belt and all the bolts were frozen. Also control arms will go, and struts. The engine is bullet proof. If you get one over 180k get one that was maintained, or you will.... whether you like it or not! All that said, it's been a very serviceable car for my family over the last 5 years.
I'm 27 and just recently bought a 1995 Volvo 850 for 600$ barely any rust on it, just small smidge here and there. And man, it runs so well despite of it having 220k miles. It only has been 2 weeks and I already added it another 2k miles. I'm having waaaay too much fun with it! Specially because it only takes 35$ to fill up the tank and it would last me a week if not more! Old cars are the best! Any car from 2011 and up just.... No.
It’s very true with those siennas. And the 94 Camry We had that exact kind of sienna when I was a young dad.. it took us everywhere on family trips and rarely gave us any problem. .. definitely well built.. no longer have it but thise that are looking for older van.. these older sienna is the perfect choice.
I just bought a 1996 Saturn SL sedan off an old lady with 111,000 miles a year ago. $1200 everything works, averages 35 mpg and parts super cheap. And my favorite thing is the transmission uses an oil style canister filter so annual transmission fluid and filter are as easy an oil change and it's OBD2.
SO I clicked the link because I was mildly curious to see what car he recommended and watched until the end because this guy is truly entertaining. And informative.
Bought 2014 matrix in 2016 with 20,000km on it. 9 years later…i love it. Can sleep in the back with the seats down and a foamy in it. Just reg oil changes and fluids. 148,000 and a trip across canada. Only thing i wish for is clearance through snow. But great winter tires its safe.
Man, I would kill to have a reliable vehicle like that for less than 5 grand! How are people finding cars that cheap?! Like geez, why does it even have to be so complicated to get a car?😾
It helps if you know how to work on cars. Then you get things called a mechanics special. My first car was a 95 Geo Metro with 150k on it (pretty late in life for those) that I paid 300 bucks for. Guy couldn't get it to run and just wanted it gone. I bought it, basically just gave it a tune up, cleaned out the fuel system and fixed the heater switch and bam. I'd still have it today if I didn't get basically forced to sell it.
To be clear on something, you don't buy studded snows because they're good ALL the time. You buy them if you always need to get whwre you're going safely. It only takes one shift to an ice storm to cost you a car or life. If you can afford it, buy studs on secondary rims. Change them yourself in the fall and back in the spring. They'll last a decade if you take care of them.
The old ones usually do look better than the latest idiotic designs. Yesterday, I saw a car style I once owned. My wife thought it was great! It was a 1972 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight. Now, that was a fine car!
I been watching you forever scotty i really appreciate you taking your time to help us with endless information for our vehicles i fell on very hard times and i just spent one thousand on a Mitsubishi mirage it has 210miles Wich sounds crazy on the test drive no leaks no weird sounds ac everything works you think the thing will give me at least six months
Just about Toyota quality in some Fords. Last year I had a a 2006 Explorer with a 4 liter V6 and it ran and looked great. A friend of mine wanted it so bad I said okay and sold it to him! Your Stang is a great find.
I have a 2009 Chevy Van. Rebuilt the engine myself in 2018. The odometer reads 300,000+ . It runs great. I am looking for a used Honda or Toyota now. Time to sit this 1 down.
2006, went to the Toyota dealer with toddler and infant thinking we wanted a RAV-4 and the wise salesman, a seasoned parent himself gently steered us toward the Sienna. Was he ever right. We added another kid and still driving it to this day. It's in the shop now with a serious set of repairs being done but I think there was only 1 other time we had any major repair done on it and the shop owner said it should be good for well over another 100k or so miles.
Still driving my '04 Sienna. No longer my primary vehicle, but still runs very nicely. Primary repairs have been the radiator in 2010 and, more recently, the catalytic converters (2022). Other than that no real issues. I will continue to drive it until something major goes wrong with the engine or transmission.
Scotty I just bought a 2006 for 1200$ from the original owner. 263000 miles on it so I replaced brakes, timing belt and water pump. Still running great
@@chexcollects I was looking for anything that would help my wife. She takes care of 3 special needs adults and the Cadillac CTs worked but was difficult for them to get out sometimes. I came across this van and originally was 1500 but I think he lowered it to 1200 because of the work my wife does. I replaced the timing belt and brakes (rotors, calipers, and brakes) myself so if that’s all I need done the I got a good deal. I will be replacing the plug’s here shortly also. About a 3 hr job.
@@antoniot5927 I just bought an 06 with 244,000 miles, and they only come with a 3.3L V6. Luckily mine had the timing belt and water pump changed 40,000 miles ago, but from my research, it usually costs around $1,000 to $1,200 to have it done. They usually install a kit that has the timing belt, water pump (internal), and some seals.
I would argue the Chevy Astro AWD is the best work vehicle ever. 3 rows a seats for road trips or pull the seats and it is the only minivan you can put 4x8 sheets of plywood stacked to the roof and close the doors. I am on my second one and have had 3 offers to buy it in the last month alone.
I have one with 135,000 miles. 2002 n I love it!! It is very long , can put lots in it!!! Love it. Thank you SIR!!!!!!!! I have done a lot to it . Allegedly I need a manifold now. Everything else is great
My last roommate bought a 1999 one and paid way to much for it but after replacing both drive axles and one inner tie rod along with both motor mounts he has had some AC problems and coolent leak problems but he drove cross country with little to no headaches.
Really, really Scotty? I’m sitting in TX and it 107 degrees outside and you’re gonna post a video of it sleeting outside? I’d be curious to know how many videos you have stacked up waiting to be posted. 😂
We have a 2011 sienna. 321000 km. 200000 miles. We have cared for it and spent some on it this year tires battery alternator muffler front suspension….going great. Except the interior lights come on for no reason 😬trying to figure that out. Lots of people say it’s old get rid of it. But the new cars have so much to go wrong… Thanks Scotty. Love watching and learning
My mom's 1995 Camry had that same power train V6. Still ran like new after 350,000 plus miles and 20 something years. The suspension and break system and stuff finally started to rust away being in the rust belt.
I honestly think mid 90’s to mid 00’s vehicles are the best vehicles ever made. It was a perfect blend of modern reliability and comfort with not too much tech on them and (especially the Japanese ones) are fairly simple to work on. I’ve been driving one or another version for almost my whole career and I will keep doing so. They’re not flashy but they’re comfortable and still have a little character to them. My latest family one is a 2006 Honda pilot, it’s high miles but had all the maint done with records since new. 215k and drives like new, has some luxuries like heated seats, sunroof and DVD system but nothing crazy and I love it. I’d still be rocking my 2000 Camry with over 200k if it didn’t get totaled, my daughters 04 accord has 300k, my other daughters 02 celica has 250k. Just really great products.
For some reason, minivans are quite popular here in Florida, so you're not likely to get a deal like that here. But $1,600 might get you an old Camry or Corolla. Mind you, for that kind of money the paint will be burned off of it (the hot Florida sun destroys paint quickly), but underneath the crappy paint it can still be a good car
I’ve got that van. Bought it used four years ago with 128k miles for $3,400. Now have 155k and no problems other than replacing a tie rod. EVERYTHING on it still works as designed. Can’t beat it.
One of the things about Toyotas is that even when they start having problems, they rarely just die. They'll keep chugging along and almost never leave you stranded on the side of the road.
I bought mine almost 3 years ago for $700. Only had to replace the starter, battery, and alternator, other than regular maintenance. I'm in Iowa and it plows through snow, plus the A/C still works for the summer.
Yeah, lots of miles and still running. I had a Toyota RN50 pickup with a 22R engine once. The speedometer always read 8% more than the actual speed, and the odometer registered 8% more than the actual mileage. They are good vehicles, but check your odometer against the mile posts on the interstate. I climbed the north side of Brindlee Mountain on US231 when it was slushy near the bottom and snow covered half way up with regular tires, no chains.

@@BaptistJoshua you can tow heavy stuff with those v8 vans because they got the exact same engine and transmissions as the truck versions.

I love you Uncle Scotty, the coolest mechanic there ever will be ❤
After watching this, I decided to look online for used Siennas for sale. I found one near Toledo with 405,000 miles on it! For $4,391!! I have a hunch that, as soon as Scotty posts a positive video about a vehicle, sellers raise their price on that vehicle. Lol.
As soon as saw this video, I said OH NO!!! Scotty is driving up the prices! Gee Whiz!
@@PistachiosPurses My thought, exactly!
Who else thinks Scotty is the best?
@@harveyhankerson8359 Very true
👍🏼😃
My Dad died, he was a mechanic. I feel like Scotty tells me what my Dad would have. I trust him for sure cause he's a straight shooter.
Quality!
👍I really appreciate him. THANK GOD for him.🙏👍🏖
Scotty is turning into a used car salesman.. but an honest one..
My parent bought that same car brand new off the lot back in the day. Awesome car they traded it for the newer model sienna once the first ones came out
Vehicle prices in Canada are certainly crazy. A 1500$ car five years ago is $3500 today at least
The car prices go up in Australia look like the same in Canada ( $2000 car five years ago is $4500 AUD today)
So I see Bidenomics affects Canada too. The jerk is screwing the whole world
Cause of the 2000 shortage on conductors and the lack of the usual supply of cars made during the pandemic.
I test drive this, and the ac works in the front and back, 23 years later.
this Sienna was my last vehicle in 2002, great vehicle.
Snow in summer? Lol, he must have a backlog of videos. I really wanted one of these vans, but ended up getting a really good deal on a 2007 Odyssey 🤷♂️ also a good van
Just watch the transmission and timing belt.
@@nakoma5I was gonna say the same thing. I know at least 3 people that had Odysseys with transmissions failed.
You could do a video like this once a day for the next year.... "How to buy a pretty damn good car for really cheap..." And I'd watch and like every single one
2000 Toyota Sienna will officially be an antique in a few days
we still drive a 95 previa, had it for 15yrs now, its been stellar.
I make 150k a year and I never buy anything over 2500$ . Love old Toyotas and Hondas
Same spirit here.
You're my idol.
My best car ever was a Mercedes e420 1995. Paid $2,000 drove it for about 40,000 mi and then sold it.

Wow SK. I almost missed this review. I was window shopping online at eBay Motors and I See Cars wanting a Previa, but now I'll include the Sienna in my search. Thanks.
Bought one yesterday for 850 230k miles needs some front end components belts and TLC but Ik it’s a good purchase az owned rust free
My 02 sienna is still waxing strong at 355,000km. Bought from an auction for 1700 8 years ago.
No.
Minnesota DOESN'T deserve you, Scotty! Thanks for visiting!
It’s very true with those siennas. And the 94 Camry
We had that exact kind of sienna when I was a young dad.. it took us everywhere on family trips and rarely gave us any problem. .. definitely well built.. no longer have it but thise that are looking for older van.. these older sienna is the perfect choice.
Just picked up a 2008 Toyota sienna. Only has 117k miles! Barely broken in. Thanks Scotty for all your wisdom!
Scotty is a happy man doing what he loves.
my 2004 is 300 thousand miles and still running i love it!
Hows it running now?
Great video for the common man. This is the reason you have almost 6 million subscribers.
The Previas may have been a lot harder to work on but they were very unique looking for a mini van. Great video, Scotty.
Pull a Previa into the garage parking lot the techs scatter like cockroaches, it was a nightmare to work on.
Where do you park to sleep..camp grounds? Public parking places?
Man, I would kill to have a reliable vehicle like that for less than 5 grand! How are people finding cars that cheap?! Like geez, why does it even have to be so complicated to get a car?😾
they aren't gems like that are 1 in 100,000...used cars are stupidly expensive right now.
I just bought a 2004 Sienna with 180k miles for $3500. It ain't pretty but it'll snatch me around.
Just get a Honda Civic or accord . 5k for a car is not that much, Save 8k and you’ll get a fine car
I love my crown Vic . The one car that can be used for anything. They last a very long time and cheap parts.
The Sienna is like the Camry of minivans. Get a used one, maintain it and drive it 'til it dies, I doubt you'll be unhappy with it.
I bought a 2013 Toyota sienna in 2014 for 13,000. I sold it for a different vehicle, but I loved that van.
My 2017 Toyota Sienna averaged 37mpg ( cdn 4.56L) driving 90-100km/hr ( 54-60mph) on a recent hwy trip... Just replaced rear oem rotors and pads.
I was selling Toyotas back when that sienna was new. The sienna and the odyssey were close competitors back then.
They'll last a decade if you take care of them.
great van, and way better looking than the newer ones in my opinion !

I loved my Mitsubishi Mirage. If not for rust would still have it.. Currently have a Mitsubishi 2017 Outlander.
Bought a 96 mustang gt convertible for 3.8k, with 140k miles. Paint is immaculate and was all original. Great car imo
Just about Toyota quality in some Fords. Last year I had a a 2006 Explorer with a 4 liter V6 and it ran and looked great. A friend of mine wanted it so bad I said okay and sold it to him!
Your Stang is a great find.

We've continuously had a Sienna since 1999 - great vehicles. 2000, 2004 and 2013.
"Boring" beats waiting by the roadside for a tow!
I have a 2009 Chevy Van. Rebuilt the engine myself in 2018. The odometer reads 300,000+ . It runs great. I am looking for a used Honda or Toyota now. Time to sit this 1 down.
Scotty you're a National Treasure and save us all money and I want to say a personal THANK YOU FOR YOU'RE A LIFESAVER AND A BLESSING TO ME💞🤗💞🙏🙏
2006, went to the Toyota dealer with toddler and infant thinking we wanted a RAV-4 and the wise salesman, a seasoned parent himself gently steered us toward the Sienna. Was he ever right. We added another kid and still driving it to this day. It's in the shop now with a serious set of repairs being done but I think there was only 1 other time we had any major repair done on it and the shop owner said it should be good for well over another 100k or so miles.
I spent 1,900 on the same van . I love it you are a honest man
I'm Brazilian and I watch all your videos, you are so much fun
I have a Sienna. I sold cars for 20 years. This is absolutely the best car I have ever owned!
Scotty is teaching me so much..I.tell my mechanic what to do now
Still driving my '04 Sienna.
Still running great
Great find. Surprising to me you can still get running vehicles for under 2k, especially in todays financial climate
@@chexcollects I was looking for anything that would help my wife. She takes care of 3 special needs adults and the Cadillac CTs worked but was difficult for them to get out sometimes. I replaced the timing belt and brakes (rotors, calipers, and brakes) myself so if that’s all I need done the I got a good deal. I will be replacing the plug’s here shortly also. About a 3 hr job.
How much you spendt changing timing belt. Did you get a 4 or 6 cylinder
@@antoniot5927 I have the 3.3 6 cylinder and I got the timing belt kit at rock auto for 137$ acdelco

Lots of people say it’s old get rid of it. But the new cars have so much to go wrong…
Thanks Scotty. Love watching and learning
My mom's 1995 Camry had that same power train V6. Still ran like new after 350,000 plus miles and 20 something years. The suspension and break system and stuff finally started to rust away being in the rust belt.
But they don't make them the way they used to anymore.
I have a question if you don't mind but I moved from Oklahoma to Brown Summit N.C. right outside of Greensboro am I in the "Rust Belt?'
@kennethsmith4956 no you are not.
My 1999 Toyota Camry lasted until 700k. I also didn’t take great care of it

I got 2004 sienna with the 300,000 miles same engine same transmission still blowing cold air and it’s running like a champ 😊
Found 97 Corolla in a neighborhood for 4k and someone bought it 😢

One of the things about Toyotas is that even when they start having problems, they rarely just die. They'll keep chugging along and almost never leave you stranded on the side of the road.
I bought mine almost 3 years ago for $700. Only had to replace the starter, battery, and alternator, other than regular maintenance. I'm in Iowa and it plows through snow, plus the A/C still works for the summer.
Where do you recommend finding one? Dealers wouldn’t offer this kind of deal, would they?
I love Scotty's passion for his trade.
