About Japanese Suzukis - Scotty was on to it this time. One way Suzuki did themselves in was to partner with GM who had them rebadge Daewoo designs for the North American Market. I have had a few Japanese Suzukis which have been excellent mechanically, especially the engines My 1991 Swift is still all original including the brakes and clutch and keeps up with traffic easily. The way it is going it will easily last another 30 years.

I'm surprised they're selling for what that guy bought the one in this video for because they were always in demand. I blew an engine in my F250 coming off the grapevine into Bakersfield. Strange that I got all the way over the grapevine hauling a huge 4 horse steel trailer with 3 ramps (super heavy) loaded with four horses. My veterinarian had moved there and I was bringing horses to him.
He had one of these trucks. Then he bought a Chevy S10 when they first came out. It couldn't handle the weight of his vet box (they contain hot water as well as supplies). Dealer replaced something and it went less than 10k more miles and did it again. (Later they beefed it up -- apparently they didn't realize people planned to use it as a pickup truck.)
So he pulled my truck and trailer with four horses on the flat into Bakersfield with his Toyota pickup that had over 300k miles on it. And he had his vet box on it because he was using it rather than have the S10 fail again!

Where I live...I still see A LOT of old vehicles running around.
Toyota mini trucks, Chevy and Ford pickups, from the 70s, 80s,90s.
These are by no means restored vehicles.
People maintain them...and just run them.
The guy across the street from me, has an 88 Chevy, with a 350.
It has almost 800k on it, and is completely reliable.
    He drives it every day!
Never had the valve covers off of it!!!
Another vehicle I see a lot...82 -95 Olds, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy sedans.
    And...Any Crown Vic!!!

I bought a 2003 Susuki 4x4 mini SUV just a few months before the Pademic 2019 with 93 thousand on it. Been driving ever since, and it doesn't burn oil, very quiet. I just replaced the exhaust behind the cat, two pieces and that's all I have done to it besides regular maintenance. I am embarrassed to say how cheap it was so I won't. It does have auto transmission and yes it is gutless but its fantastic in Minnesota winter. And the Susuki wasn't a Minnesota vehicle so no rust!

I must say I enjoy driving that tiny thing!! I can easily go uphill at 120km (75mph?).. I feel safe solid driving even in our Canadian winters (6months up north).. it's now up to 377000km! Purchase my wife and 05 Suzuki XL seven that was the best SUV car we’ve ever had and we own about 15 cars that car was bulletproof. My daughter wrecked in the front got a fix was still going strong that car never gave was not one day of trouble and the only thing that ever has replaced on that was just the tires and the belts and that was it. Everything still worked on the car we loved it. I’m so sad that they pulled out the market because our next car would’ve been another Suzuki.

Rubber timing belts are usually not too bad to replace when you can see the entire timing cover. I'd rather have an easy to change rubber belt than a difficult to replace chain. They cram stuff in there so tight that an easy to service late model is hard to find

When I lived in Japan and owned a car, we had yearly inspection and... the car had to be spotless on the bottom, every bolt had to be painted and everything spotless and very clean. I owned a mitusubishi station wagon, it was basically a saab three banger engine, except it leaned other opposite way fo the saab engines. As I owned saabs, it was a familiar power train.

Those sx4 cars do fine on the highway, the kizashi does even better and you you can find parts worldwide because America is the only country that didn't like them. The biggest mistake Suzuki ever made was partnering with gm and allowing them to make some models at the defunct Daewoo plant
