    I have a 4GC carb that is having issues where I can get it to idle (rough), but will barely run when in gear. It was rebuilt 4 years ago, but has been sitting since then. While trying to troubleshoot I ran into this video. I found it so helpful that my confidence is now there to pull the top and have a look at the float and look for obvious plugging of the jets. Thanks very much for a great clear video.

      Man, do I hear ya. Mine is also a 2GC on a Bayliner with a 2.3L OMC Ford engine and dumping fuel in idle. Just can't find specs on proper float levels. Looked online everywhere and nothing. On yours I would check your ventry ports. Make sure they are not clogged. Cheers.

    Thanks for the video! First time rebuilding my 2G. Just got done with the disassembly. A lot easier than what I though. Hopefully it’s as easy to rebuild. Thanks for the help!!

    On my 70 Impala the 2 barrel started a leak on the top. I thought it was a gasket, so I made a new one. Ran good for an hour or so then it started leaking again. I really can't tell where it's coming from. is it possible for the pivot rod that connects to the pump be leaking through that hole? . Doesn't seem to be coming from the rubber vent plug. Ordered a new carb for now, but would like to fix the original. One of my carbs from a 64 Impala didn't have the vent hole. I don't want to keep removing it over and over to fix it or think I'm fixing it

    Once its disassembled, what should I clean it with? I have seen things online about people using Simple Green with varying effectiveness. What do you recommend?

    • @BriGuyGarage
      @BriGuyGarage  Год назад

      Hey there! I’ve seen all kinds of cleaners recommended for cleaning the carb body. I’ve even heard of people soaking them in pinesol, or even boiling it! You need to be careful with simple green as it isn’t recommended for certain materials. If I remember correctly, it shouldn’t be used on aluminum, but you’ll want to look that up and double check.
      I remember trying a combination of things, but ultimately it was mostly just scrubbing with carb cleaner and hot VERY soapy water (Dawn dish soap). Another option is to pick up a gallon of chem dip, and literally just drop the parts right in. I try to avoid harsh chemicals when I can, so I didn’t try that route.
      You’re basically left with either some good old scrubbing, or dunking it in a chemical. Hope this gives you some direction! Thanks for watching.

    Brian,
    Can you tell me the float level and drop in inches for a Rochester 2 barrel 2GV that came from a 1969 Chevy G10 van 307 V8 and if I measure to the solder joint or bottom of the brass float. Oddly, the kit I bought came with a cardboard measuring tool but no spec sheet to tell me the measurement and I cannot find anything on line. Thanks.
    Joe

      @BriGuyGarage  2 месяца назад

      Hey Joseph. My kit came with the little cardboard ruler too. It also came with a big piece of paper that had instructions on it. One of the sections was how to set your float levels, and it had the information there. Yours didn’t come with any papers?
      It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, I looked but couldn’t find the box - it’s probably long gone. If you can’t find it let me know and I’ll see what I can find.

    Man, I have a question, I just got myself a nicer, 74 buick apollo 350 v8. It has the 2 barrel divorced choke carb. My inlaw,broke my air horn, by tightening my filter down a little too much. I just got me a refurbished 2 barrel rochester, but it isn't divorced, it has the piece on the carburetor it self. Can I just swap them, or?. I'm having a hard time finding online what to do.

    • @BriGuyGarage
      @BriGuyGarage  2 года назад +1

      Hmmm.. I’d really have to see them both in front of me to be sure. Does it look like you can just swap the air horn from the new one onto your old one? Does it have all the same provisions as your old one, or is it set up differently in a way that your divorced choke linkages won’t hook up to it? If all else fails, I’m pretty sure you can just buy the appropriate air horn.. I’m seeing quite a few listing for them, just not sure if any are for your particular carb.
